Immediately would recommend this place. It's small and wonderful with live music sometimes as well. I had heard great things but finally took the leap to try it. We tried the feta dip, the lamb chops and the Greek salad. The feta dip was insanely delicious. Tangy, savory, so so good! Highly recommend this as an appetizer. The lamb chops were cooked perfectly and had incredible flavor - quite tangy due to the lemon, but over all very good. The potatoes were also delicious - the asparagus seemed just plainly steamed, but the other flavors made up for it. The greek salad was simple but delicious! The environment is the only saving grace. Cute restaurant and we went when there was live music. It was very nice for atmosphere. The light level was perfect for after dark dining in a place with windows on three sides. Makes you feel good to be there. And then there is the food and service. The wait staff, while friendly, don't seem to be either into working a hospitality job or aren't trained properly nor have a sense of awareness that is needed to be good at a job like hosting, wait staff, etc. When it came time to order our meals I ordered the briami. I asked if bread / pita came with it and the waiter told me no. So I said that I would like to get some pita with it. He then proceeds to point at the hummus & pita appetizer that the table was sharing and says, 'there is bread there'. Now, not smart to argue with people that are going to be handling your food so I wasn't going to point out the ridiculousness of his comment and gesture. The appetizer was a shared dish for everyone and the pita was for the hummus. Was I supposed to tell everyone to slow their roll when it came to the pita so I have enough for my dinner? But ok, I let that go. Then the waiter's helper / runner & buser comes to take our appetizer plates. I asked him if I need to keep my fork or if he will bring us new ones with our dinner. He doesn't hear my question due to the music so we get into a back and forth a couple of times and I give up and just let him take the fork. Our dinners are served....when my dish is put down I clearly have no silverware to eat with and the appetizer has no pita bread left. Somehow in this maybe 40% full small restaurant the main waiter's short-term memory cannot remember that I wanted bread with my meal nor does anyone notice my lack of eating utensils. Also, when the food is placed on the table shouldn't the last question be before you walk away, "Is there anything else I can get you?" to which I could have asked for a fork and more pita. Well that didn't happen and I assumed that they saw how empty the table was in front of me and someone would grab a fork and run it to the table. After sitting there for about 5 minutes while everyone else was eating I finally walked over to another table and took a fork from a place setting on my own. FYI - the briami looks NOTHING like the photos on the web and doesn't even seem to match their menu description. It is supposed to be roasted or baked vegetables. It was so different that if you saw the picture that was on this Yelp page and then got what I got you would ask, "is this the briami?" or even, "uh....What is this?" The briami that I got was more or less diced veggies cooked mostly al dente with some sort of sauce that was close to a jarred sauce from a grocery story but slightly watered down. I don't think it was even 3/4 a cup of veggies either. But at least it only cost something like $15 to $16. Oy. After I was done I then sat there conversing with the people we were with, plate of remaining sauce in front of me that I was hoping would be a reminder for the waiter that I wanted bread...for a reason. But the only time the waiter came back was when everyone appeared to be done so he could pad the ticket with offers of more wine and beer. I then pointed to the empty pita bread plate. Rather than getting the pita bread we got a whole new appetizer. Are they that afraid of using questions to clarify a request or repeating back what they think a customer is requesting to make sure things are understood? By this point there are only three tables of people, maybe a total of 12, and they seem to be so distracted or not into it like a slammed Denny's after a high school football game...where the staff still gets things right. I think the only reason that our service was even at the level that it was is we happened to go with people that were regulars and known by the staff. Wife's dish (salmon) had not only the world's smallest asparagus but the world's smallest serving of it. I couldn't have been even 1 ounce. Let's just say that the picture here on Yelp for the salmon - take one of those sprigs on the picture and cut it into 1/3's and then take that 1/3 and split it into 4 very small sprigs. And are the lemon potatoes supposed to be cold!?!? Hummus appetizer - was maybe 5 tablespoons of hummus. If you like this style of food give them a pass and go to House of Pita a few minutes away. If you are more about the atmosphere, this place is nice as long as your expectations for food quality, quantity, and service are low. Keep it about the music and conversation with those you are with and you will have an good time....for the price of a full restaurant for the local mall food court quality food and servers who don't seem like they want to be there or care. I don't know if I would go again even if someone else was paying as i wouldn't want them to throw money away like that. read more

The owner is very friendly. I think it's the cutest little place in bg, I just wish it was open more. I've been here a few times and everytime has been pleasant. Plenty of parking, which is always nice and never crowded. Twice I've ordered the rack of lamb and its been cooked correctly and very tasty. My friend ordered the filet mignon, which for the price, was amazing. I would choice anothe side other than lemony potatoes but they were fine. The hummus is good and they arent greedy with pita like most places. The flaming cheese is cool to get once but I wouldnt do it again. Greek salad and lentil soup is good. 3-Stars, which means A-Okay! We stopped in for takeout on a rainy Saturday evening. There was only one couple dining in, but the gentleman at the register that took our order said they were very busy with take-out orders. There were 6 orders ahead of us, and the gentleman told us it would be about 20 minutes and told us to have a seat, and 15 minutes later our order was ready. We shared the Moussaka and the Domathes. The Moussaka was very flavorful, but the portion was rather small. The Domathes themselves were very good, but they were completely covered in way too much Avgolemono Sauce, so that's pretty much all you tasted, and you only get 4 of them, which are small, so it's not much of a portion for the price. Had we known the portions would be small we would have ordered one more thing to share. I understand with inflation being so high food prices are getting expensive, so most restaurants are either raising prices or making their portions smaller. It was still good and I'd be happy to try them again in the future. read more

Gayle and I took Jim and Erin out for dinner here last Saturday night. Their Nephew and his wife (who are notorious foodies), previously had take out from here and raved about the food. George's Molon Lave is a family operation, with George greeting us warming at the start and frequently wandering around to meet, greet, and make sure that every thing was OK. I think his Granddaughter actually waited on us, and I'm sure there were family members back in the Kitchen. George also shared with us his original arrival in the USA from Greece to Astoria. From there it was Portland, then Battle Ground, with various family tales to tell in between. It was all a lot of fun and one of the most welcoming restaurant experience I've experienced in a very long time. There's a Cajun word - Lagniappe, which means "a little something extra." There must be a Greek equivalent as I enjoyed a nice cup of soup when George noticed that I had not ordered salad like the rest of our group. Then there was a round of Ouzo for each of us at the end of the meal. Finally, there was the really good live music soloist playing Greek tunes while we dined and snoozed. And as we were leaving, a hug or handshake from George capped a most pleasant evening dining experience. Did I forget to mention the food? Due to supply chain issues, my favorite Greek wine (Retsina) wasn't on the menu, but a nice California wine with a Greek name was a really good 2nd choice. We ordered a bottle of that, while Gayle and Erin had a very enjoyable bottle of Greek white. Our main courses were split between half the table ordering an excellent Moussaka, while the the rest ordered a well received Shrimp George. All that was after a Dip Platter Appetizer, and an opinion that we needed to come back and work the menu a little more. One of the lessons I've learned from COVID was that the restrictions may have saved lives, but also dehumanized people both in terms of their own place and with interactions with other people outside the household. we were recently at George's for the first time since George passed away. It was quite emotional to not have him there to welcome us, but we were so pleased to see that his son has taken the reins and the food and hospitality are up to George's standards. Service and food were great......i could easily eat a pint of the hummus all by myself......never tasted any better. WE also had Greek salad, Moussaka, Chicken and Calamari......yum all 'round. My first time at a greek restaurant. A wonderful experience, we chose to dine outdoors. We came here for their saganaki, where you get a show of them lighting the cheese on fire with some lemon juice, before you eat it with some pita bread. Loved the dish! Based on all the positive reviews, decided to give it a try. Went with my sisters. We were the only ones there at the time. Orders were taken, drinks were served. All was well. The chief complaint was our food. I had the shrimp dish, which was o.k., very tomatoey. Sis had the salmon. Both were served with plain boiled potatoes and plain steamed asparagus. No butter or sauce. Pretty dry. As was the salmon, way overcooked. Even though the place wasn't that busy, our server didn't check in very often. When we complained about the salmon, he even said it was hit or miss . . . ?? Had to ask to get drink refills. No discount for the sad salmon. read more

Ate here a few times before George passed. They're very honest about how meals have been coming out and will recommend other options which some may not like if they're hard set on a pork chop. There's lots to treasure at George's Molon Lavé Restaurant and I think I loved it all ... starting with George himself who served every single customer on a busy Saturday night without an empty table to be found. George is a whirlwind of foodie fascination and customer appreciation. Adding to the atmosphere was live music performed by a jovial instrumentalist playing (what looked like) a bouzouki with upbeat tunes. Mixing in a $30 bottle of Greek wine (2017 Mitravelas Red on Black) and free shots of Ouzo certainly livened us up, too. Opa!!! The restaurant gets its unique name from a famous Greek response by King Leonidas when asked to surrender his weapons in the Battle of Thermopylae against Persia: molon lavé ... meaning "come and take them." So, we did ... by coming and taking home delicious memories in our stuffed tummies. Sure, George is a sweetheart, but I adored the Greek food most of all ... which appeared be prepared by George's son Stefan in the active kitchen behind the counter. They make quite a dynamic team ... and some seriously great Greek delights. Full Rack of Lamb ($40 - 5 stars) Eight juicy and elegant ribs still on the bone were near perfection with Greek Spices, Olive Oil, and Fresh Lemon. This will be a must-order on all future visits! It came with sides of Greek Fries and fresh Asparagus, but don't let those distract you from the tender meat. Lamb Chops ($18 - 4.5 stars) A pair of delicious and delicate lamb steaks (with bone) were so satisfying. I'd easily order them again, but I loved the Rack of Lamb more, so ... maybe not. The Greek Lemon Potatoes were addictive and filling while the Asparagus was still really good. Saganaki ($9 - 5-star fun; 4-star taste) This Flaming Greek Kefalotiri Cheese is probably the most popular item at George's because it's served on-fire at the table and brings a zesty flavor punch thanks to lots and lots of fresh-squeezed Lemon. The entrees came with choice of a Greek Salad (4 stars) or Lentil Soup (3.5 stars). She got one. I got the other. We split them, but they didn't distract us from the lamb, cheese, or wine. What a fun restaurant! George is very friendly and makes sure everyone feels welcome and is having a good time at his restaurant. Outside seating wasn't available when we visited, but the large garage doors for the restaurant were open and provided plenty of fresh air. The restaurant's decorations are a little over the top, but I loved them nonetheless. The live music was a great touch and made for a wonderful atmosphere on a quiet Sunday evening. George is bursting with personality, and so is his restaurant. Needless to say, the service was excellent! The food itself was quite good. George recommended a house-branded bottle of red wine to us, which was good but not memorable. The saganaki was a highlight for us, not only for the flaming cheese performance but also because it was the most delicious appetizer we've had in a good while. We playfully fought over the last bits of fried cheese. I had the lamb special, which came with asparagus and potatoes. I wasn't too impressed with the asparagus nor potatoes, but the lamb was quite tasty. The chef seems to love using lime. All that said, there are a couple caveats to this restaurant. The other reviewers reporting that George doesn't wear a mask and greets all customers personally is true, and it's unclear if he's vaccinated against COVID-19 or not. The rest of the employees were wearing masks. Coming to this restaurant is possibly a high COVID-19 exposure risk at the moment. Take that as you will. Furthermore, the prices here can add up quickly. We easily spent $100 here for two adults without even realizing it (app, mains, wine). The food here is good, but felt overpriced for the portion sizes. Overall, we enjoyed our visit to George's Molon Lave and may visit again in the future when COVID-19 is less of a concern. read more

Reservation, reservation, reservation The first tome we tried to go was on a Friday night. They have a guitar player on the weekends and the place was completely full, we had to go somewhere else. This time we made a reservation, and got seated easy-peasy. Be prepared to sit and talk with your dinner companions for a long while, because there really isn't a wait staff, it's just the owner, and he can only take care of a couple tables at a time; we ended up being there for two hours. Extremely loud venue, Owner is a creepy , touchy feely, rub you on the back kinda guy. The water boy couldn't get it together enough to serve us waters along side our plastic coke bottles with straws in them. Owner recommended the rib eye and the halibut, we said "yes". Both dishes were horrible. Overcooked steak and fish. Potatoes were boiled and spritzed with lemon. Asparagus was steamed with no other prep. Flavorless. Oh and it took twenty minutes to ladle some soup out of a kettle to start the meal. Another family at the table next to us got brought the wrong meal - we chatted with them in the parking lot, also first time/never againers!!! The rain hammering on the windows was likewise appealing. There's inviting, good weather outdoor seating too. We went on Halloween and were the only ones there. No reservations needed, but I'll bet you'll need reservations on the weekend. Go on, make them. Try the Moussaka, or try the lamb, or just tell George to bring, "what's good tonight".
