Getting a table here is nearly impossible, but I have to say it was worth it. The prices are great and the food is fresh and well prepared. The flavors in the dishes were wonderful and the feta cheese was the best, most creamy feta I've ever had. It can be eaten by itself. Try the falafel crostinis as an appetizer. Sooo good. My only complaint is that much of the food was doused in olive oil and while olive oil is generally a healthy fat, I prefer my food a little drier. (I just know that next time I will have to ask for less oil.) The servers are delightful and the owner is very friendly and truly seems to enjoy his job. IN ORDER TO GET A TABLE FOR DINNER: Do NOT expect to get a table by just showing up. And they do not take reservations in advance either. Huh?? Here's how: You must show up to the restaurant at 5pm on the day you would like to eat here. Stand in line outside and they begin taking times for that evening. George's is great. Every dish they have has a unique spin on it and is delicious. My family and I have been going there for a few years now and have always had a great experience. The wait can be a little much, but they'll tell you when to come back so you can go mill around the shops. Make sure not to spend all your cash though, George's is cash only! I cannot comment on their dinner, but for breakfast you cannot go wrong! My mom's favorite is the Kojak omelet (red peppers, feta and olives). It is a big omelet and comes with home fries and toast. We never leave there hungry. If you are in Cape May this is a great place to go to have a great meal that won't disappoint. read more

I was not happy with the food here. Neither was my date. Before going into the food, I must say that the service was very friendly and attentive. We were welcomed with upbeat tones and great smiles. We tried the sampler appetizer. That was the best part of our meal besides the service. The feta cheese was fresh, as well as the hummus and pita. The greek salad was seasoned fair, but the lettuce could have been fresher. I only ate about half of it. (My date agreed.) I ordered the Crab Cakes and they were small and unfortunately very tasteless. Bland. That's about all I could say about them. I only ate one of the two of them. The eggplant orzo was cooked perfect, but lacked flavor. My date ordered the lamb chops and he stated they were dry and did not have much flavor either. We did not even stay for dessert and both vowed not to go there again. We both enjoy layered flavors to our food and this place, unfortunately did not deliver that for these two dishes. Wow. What a great experience. We had no problem waiting a mere 10 minutes for our table but George and his staff were so apologetic they gave us a complimentary appetizer during our short wait. A small gesture but very thoughtful and greatly appreciated. George's and the staff were warm and welcoming. As was the food. We had the lamb chops and a gyro salad. Both were phenomenal. The service was equally exceptional. Lastly, I thought there was a mistake on the bill because it was so cheap. Great food + great service + byob = happy customers. Heard good things about this place so on a trip down to Cape May we decided to try it out. First, the person at the door was a little rude. I guess when you have a line and a waiting list they think that's acceptable. When we were seated it took a long time before we got menus and drink orders were taken. Finally ordered our meals and 3 of the 4 meals were served and 1 was not served until about 5 minutes later. Ordered the steak medium...it came out well. The orzo on all the dishes was very very overcooked so it had a mushy feel and was not very appetizing. The waitress did not come back asking if we wanted any refills on waters/iced tea or soda. I know Guy Fieri was there but when did he become a food critic and not just a personality doing a tv show. Disappointing experience and wouldn't go back. read more

We've been to Cape May twice, and I praise the day we found George's food. You get good food, done real good, as they say in the South. I like big portions(you can take them back to wherever you're staying if you can't finish), I like food that is quality(perfection is had at George's), and I like it clean(that means many things to me). Our first time there last year was for lunch, and I know it impressed me, as I kept saying to my husband that we were going back there on our next trip. This visit we went in for dinner-they were packed and it didn't look like we were going to get in. George made it happen, and we ran back to get some wine. The dinner was great. I had a huge Greek salad with chicken(scrummy), and we ordered the wonderful appetizer/hummus platter, so I was set. Everyone was very pleased with their food, and my husband even got to break a big plate to the delight of George and the restaurant. OPA!!!! Oh, and as for the service, the servers are engaging(another big plus to me), and give impeccable attention without hovering. In a resort town full of some pretty mediocre food, spotty service, and overpriced places, this place really stands out. Next year-BREAKFAST!!! Can't wait! read more

It's also not what I'd expect from a place that the Owner says is much better quality than "Uncle Bill's" across the street. The obnoxious guy working the door harasses people about how great his place is and "Wait 30 minutes at my place, instead of Bill's because Bill's is a factory and George's is all about quality (pointing to framed pictures of Food Network's Guy Fieri and a NYT article)." Lunch meat turkey is not quality - it's a lame effort. My mom got breakfast and that looked good, but seriously, how do you screw up eggs (Chef School 101), bacon and toast. Really good breakfast option with friendly and patient staff. Came in with my family on a Sunday morning, and we were able to be seated right as they opened. Got beverages right away and ordered up our choices. I went with a George's platter, and everything was cooked just right. Everyone enjoyed their breakfasts, and it seemed like everyone else in the room was as well. Couldn't completely finish actually, so we got a box to go. The only downside is that they have somewhat limited seating, so you'll likely be waiting for a table unless you go early. I'm guessing this must be a fluke with all the other folks leaving 5 star reviews, but I was not impressed with George's this morning. We showed up for breakfast around 9:30. There was only about a 15 minute wait, but it's winter and there's nowhere to wait inside, so be warned. Not that that bothered me, it's not their fault- just pointing it out. We sat down and ordered coffees and breakfast, the waiter then did about a million other things before geting our coffees. I could see the coffee from where I was sitting. I wanted coffee very badly. Our coffee came out about the same time as our breakfast, which is too long to wait for a beverage. The food was ok. Both our omelettes(pork roll & cheese and aspagagus & swiss) were good. The shredded hash brown potatoes looked great but were completely unseasoned. After adding some salt at the table, they were ok. The toast was dry and there was no butter or jelly on the table, so we had to ask. The waiter came by and asked if we wanted more coffee and I replied "I'd like a little." The waiter said, "Oh, you want to wait a little?" as he walked away, and I couldn't get his attention so I never got any more coffee Because of the inattentive service and so-so food, I think "Meh, I've expreienced better" says it all. read more

The owner is very personable and professional. He and colleagues really value the customer, relationship and quality of the product. Don't want to spill the beans but look out for this place on Diner's, Drive In's and Dive's this winter! My (now) fiancee and I visited George's the morning before we got engaged in Cape May this past December. The food was so good I went through with it and asked her! You don't know me, so I have no reason to expect you to do what I say (I don't even expect people who do know me to do what I say....OK, so maybe I expect it, but they seldom do it). However, if you are reading this then you are interested in the same place I was interested in, and I only hope that you will listen: You **must** go to George's Place. They only take reservations starting at 5:00 on the night you want to go, and even then they only take about 30 reservations total (there are only like 12 tables). So, start trying to call them at 5:00 on the dot and reserve a table. You will not be sorry. It is BYOB, and they only take cash, but the prices are very reasonable. BTW: the Greek specialities are where you want to spend your time on the smallish menu. We started out by sharing two appetizers for three of us: the falafel platter and the grilled and flambéed Greek cheese. Unbelievable is all I can say. The cheese is gooey and buttery (Greek food = butter & feta = delicious) and the pita bread is outstanding. The falafel is not like traditional falafel, but the depth of flavor and the three toppings are simply delicious. The portions are *huge* so order accordingly. For dinner, we shared two entrees: the Greek lamb chops, and the pork tenderloin. The lamb was cooked to perfection, and then lightly grilled. It, and all entrees, are served with a choice of side salad. You should listen to me again: get the greek side salad. For a dinner salad, the accompanying greek salad would be good sized. As a side dish, it is gargantuan. The pork tenderloin, cooked medium and very moist, is perhaps the best I have ever eaten. The only down sides were the dolmas on the salad plate, and the orzo side dish. The dolma was too mushy inside, and the orzo was also significantly overcooked. However, it is easy to overlook this as you came for the entrees, not the side dishes. This will now be a regular stop on our Cape May visits. I am sure you will not be disappointed. read more

So after trying to come here just before Christmas and being closed we made another trip back after New Years. We have been coming to George's for a couple of years, mainly in the off season and only for dinner and the food is always great. BYOB, nuff said. Appetizers of Flaming Cheese, Babaganosh with warm pita its all good. Between my wonderful wife, mother in law and wife's grandfather we have sampled just about the entire menu. My go to dish is the lamb chops. Five perfectly cooked chops with dolmatas and Greek salad. Excellent Gyro or Crab Cakes and steaks as well. We went as a party of four for lunch as a visitor in Cape May. This place became crowded during weekend lunch hr by the time we took a deep dive in. They only take cash. The server made us sit in a very good seating area, extremely courteous. They don't have a lot of Mediterranean good choices but quality is pretty good, compared to all the Mediterranean places I have been to. We got chicken gyros as you can't go wrong with those at a food joint you are visiting for the first time. Gyros were good as it's evident we got two more ordered after the first round. Pita bread is soft and chicken is grilled properly. Iced tea is not worth trying. Only downside I feel is cramped seating area but they have taken the best measures to make people happy !! read more

Sounds a lot better than it is. I don't make a habit of writing negative reviews but I felt that there needed to be a counterpoint to all the rave reviews of George's Breakfasts. While the menu sounds exciting, the flavors and execution were average, at best. I had the limoncello french toast, and Evy had the Jackie O. omelet. We also got a side of bacon. The good: the preparation was very good. The hash browns were nicely browned and crispy on the outside, not too greasy. As good as any I've had. Likewise, the omelet was well cooked and yellow, though perhaps a bit dry for my tastes. The French toast looked nicely cooked. The bacon was done ultra-thin and crispy, they way most people like it. The location is great, right on the corner across from the beach. Extremely pleasant for breakfast and a morning walk. Also the value is good - George's doesn't take advantage of their reputation to charge tourist-town prices. The not-so-good: the actual dishes tasted no better than you'd get in a middle of the road diner. The french toast, which came with no syrup, was doused with greek yoghurt. Literally, probably a cup of yogurt covering the entire plate. The yoghurt had a pleasant lemon flavor, but the French toast was so lightly battered, that it may as well have been plain toast. I like my French toast to be custardy and richly flavored with cinnamon or at least something to give it flavor. It just tasted like the cook mixed egg and milk and barely dipped the bread in the batter. Nothing special about it at all. We had high hopes for the omelet, which had feta and tomatoes but it too was very plain. Pleasant enough but no better than I'd throw together in 5-minutes at home. Overall, I cannot recommend George's Place if you're looking for a gourmet breakfast. I definitely wouldn't wait in line for breakfast. But if you want a solid value for basic breakfast items with fancy names and you don't go in with high expectations, you'll probably be happy. read more

Being a sort of a hole in the wall located right next to "Uncle Bill's Pancake House," this little place unfortunately can be overlooked by many looking for a nice sit down breakfast. Fortunately for my group and I, we were on our bikes and noticed it right away. We all were hungry an decided we wanted to try something new. Upon entering we were seated immediately, however our group of six was split up between two tables, as they have no seating areas to accommodate a group that large; yea, the place is fairly tiny. After sitting down we waited about another minute or two before our waitress came to greet us and take our drink orders. She was friendly and seemed to enjoy her job. Now, for the food. Two other people in my group ordered the "George's Special" to split and I ordered it for myself, as I'm a big breakfast eater and it was already going on lunch time. It came with three pancakes, two eggs, breakfast meat, and home fries with a free cup of coffee. When the food arrived at our table it was apparent that it was prepared with extreme care and attention to detail. It was not only aesthetically pleasing but was also absolutely delicious. The pancakes were cooked perfectly and with just the right thickness and fluffiness. The eggs were nice and light and the home fires could have been a meal all in themselves. As for one of the most important and often overlooked aspects of a good pancake breakfast--the syrup--it made the meal. Authentic maple syrup is hard to come by at breakfast joints nowadays and runny, watered-down syrup is unfortunately the norm, not at George's Place. Being a big breakfast eater, I also really liked that they serve it until 2 p.m. unlike many places that close breakfast and open lunch at around 11. I hate missing breakfast so this is important to me. I will definitely be back here next time I'm in Cape May. read more

The staff at George's are extremely friendly and accommodating. We did not have cash with us and the waiter was gracious enough to direct us to the nearest ATM and said "no rush, come back when you can. Take your time." That was a refreshing approach. The food is fresh and delicious. I am a particular fan of the gyro platter. I must admit the portions are far larger than we expected. Every single dish was more than generous in its portion size. Our first visit to Georges. We looked over the menu the night before and found a tiramisu waffle.....I couldn't pass that up. When we arrived there was no line, got right in and ordered coffee and OJ. Coffee came back in a lipstick stained mug, they quickly got me a new one. Small place, very intimate, but very good Greek food. We didn't have a reservation, which I would strongly suggest as it got busy as dinner progressed. We lucked out and got a small table right by the open kitchen. It was funny because the main guy Niko (owner?) seemed very chummy with many of the patrons, who were likely regulars, but he seemed a bit brusque with us. That changed when we had a chance to ask him about some of the dishes we had in the Greek Picnic appetizer. The menu said it came with dolmades, which the wife and I LOVE, but we missed it on the table. He was apologetic and explained they had run out of dolmades so he'd substituted some cheeses. He was much friendlier after that. I think it was because there was a Rush and he was going in many directions. Anyway we had a wonderful meal...just the appetizer because it really was enough for us. Lamb chops and some sort of sausage...spanakopita, halloumi, olives, feta cheese, some pitas with tzatziki and hummus. I probably would have added the dolmades if they had them, and the gyro interested me, but looking at the portion sizes at nearby tables, I could not have managed a main course. Service is friendly and top notch. Place is a bit small, but that is part of its charm. The food is really good. I should have had the dorade, but the server and I talked myself out of it.
