The food at this establishment is mediocre at best. George's restaurant menu pricing is either dishonest and/or inconsistent for additional items to dishes. Paid $3.25 for a single over easy egg added to a burger instead of the .85 listed on the menu. When I received my bill, I was surprised by the price and politely questioned it. I figured it was an honest mistake that would be corrected. I witnessed the waitress attempt to correct it and print a new check while the manager/owner told that her to tell me I would be charged for an egg sandwich. She was not allowed to correct it! I was stunned but didn't argue it. I paid my check and left. This has left a really bad taste in my mouth. Considering the number of other quality diners in the area, I see no reason to return to this one after this incident. read more

This spot is popular in the neighborhood because it's convenient and right next to the train drop off and bus stop at the corner of the street. The place is clean the times I've gone. This place is only a few blocks from where I live and conveniently right off the 6 train. It's your typical diner, but with a huge menu (or do all diners have huge menus?). I stuck to the one thing I know this place couldn't screw up: breakfast food! I ordered a spanish omelette, which came with home fries and toast. The omelette was delicious, but who can screw up eggs? The home fries were pretty good. Could have used a bit more onion and pepper in the mix (I'm just a fan of solid home fries that involve veggies thrown in for good measure). Pretty good diner that's right near my apartment. Easter Sunday. We walked in and were asked for the number of people in the party. No answer was given as to how long we would have to wait. Diner is full. 2 parties are waiting in front of us. Another family walks in with 3 adults and 2 children. The cook and the man in the party give a pound hello to each other and the group is walked right to to table. No explanation or apologies (at least!!) were given to the people who were waiting. Food: diner food. Exactly what you would expect from a diner. Sausage omelet was good. Seating: if you are anywhere in a medium to large size category you will not be comfortable!! We were seated in the booth and I felt as I could not move at all. Baby seats (portable car seats) do not fit on the chairs or on the bench of the booth. Diner staff will take a high chair and will flip it over to try to position your baby carriage on it that way. Ummmm....yes thank you but NO thank you! Staff: waitress was nice and on point. Busboys: should be trained on proper clean up while patrons are in the diner. Liquids from their clean up buckets were spilling. Not a pretty sight. Cleanliness: diner does not look crisp. A bit outdated. Overall experience just ok and probably would rate for 3 stars. 1 start taken away for favoritism without apologies and 1 star taken away for splashing a toddler at the nearby table with the water/liquids from the clean up bucket. read more

Just walked out of the place. I ordered eggs benedict. My order came with what looked and tasted like brown gravy not hollandaise sauce. The waitress took it back to get me something different. When she did the chef threw a fit complaining out loudly so I could hear. The the chef cut corners and tried to pass this off as eggs benedict then gets angry at the customer. The customer should never have to hear the complaints from the restaurant staff. At that point I was aggravated and would not be able to enjoy my breakfast. I frequent the place often for coffee and breakfast items. Sometimes lunch or dinner. I will not be too much anymore. There is a smaller diner across the street. Thats where I went when I left. I have been going to George's diner for years and it has been with the same workers which are great. I enjoy going there and feel comfortable there. My only complaint is that the managers/owners are extremely cold and rude especially the woman. One time my chicken wings were pink inside and I called her over and she said that they were cooked when they clearly were not. All she told me was to order something else. She is also extremely rude on the phone for no reason. Do not own a restaurant where you have to deal with people if you are a rude person. She is the downfall of this place read more

I come here at least twice a month because I'm a local. It's like your typical diner, environment and service wise. It's not the most modern place, but service is great. The menu is pretty diverse, offering mexican, greek, italian dishes and wide selection of breakfast foods, burgers, wraps, salads, sandwiches, and desserts. Some definitive hits would be their quesadillas, burgers, chicken pot pies, spinach ravioli, greek salad, and everything breakfast related. Some of the combinations in the salads are off so make sure you read the salad ingredients thoroughly before ordering. I also suspect some food is frozen rather than fresh, as in most diners with large menus, for example the sweet potato fries. I always order the chicken kebob when I come to Georges. The dish consists of grilled chicken, mushrooms, tomatoes and green peppers on a bed of rice. Everything is cooked well. The rice is not undercooked or overcooked. I also had a lobster bisque that came with the order. That bisque was awesome. The portions at Georges are hearty and generous. Lived in the neighborhood 20 years and was a loyal customer but in the past few years the place is looking dirty and the quality of food isn't what it used to be. I always ordered a burger until it started tasting funny, I don't know poor quality meat? Breakfast has always be a safe choice and the only thing I've ordered the last few times. My biggest issue deciding not to eat here anymore is the flies... I cannot eat at a place that has flies. At my table alone their were at least five flies all over my food the last two times I went in to eat. I can't imagine how many were in the entire place. It's a red flag to me about the cleanliness of the diner. It wasn't the summertime it actually snowed the last time I went in so it wasn't an issue with the season. If they want to continue to be a decent place they should consider updating it and put a little more effort into making it presentable. I do enjoy talking to the waitress that has been there for a long time with the blond hair, she is always very nice. Worst diner around here. Not only is the food overly unnecessarily greasy, its overly expensive for what you get. On top of it the staff is rude and have no problem ignoring you. Especially the heavier set one that works the counter. He is disrespectful and gets kick out of being mean. I will never go again. Its poorly run and you will hear the phone constantly with none of the lazy people answering for take out. And if you get take out im positive it cannot be warm for how long it sits there. Very disappointed. Have been going to this place for so long, but lately I have started noticing a decline. The glass while sitting at the booths is so filthy and greasy. Went last week and Ordered scrambled eggs with cheese and the cheese is just thrown on top from out of the wrapper, not even melted. As a diner every product should be fresh. Is it hard to get fresh American cheese? Next, ordered the French toast and you can tell it absolutely was not fresh. It looked and tasted just like the frozen out of the box French toast. This is the worst ! Not to mention the waiting period is almost to an hour long delivery. The WORST part is the food. I order French toast with scramble eggs & bacon !the bacon was burned no not crispy BURNED with saggy French toast as if they waited for it to get black for them to think they were fully cooked . I called back spoke to the supervisor who ever he is asked for a replacement and he was EXTREMELY RUDE to me telling me I had to wait for another 45 mins when I disagree he became frustrated and told me to go in and get it myself. It escalated to the point that he hung up the phone & when I called him back to claim to him about his disrespectful actions his words were " you don't need to know my name I'm busy you have to wait " & hanged up again. Excellent customer service (at least by phone). I ordered delivery. They went above and beyond. I called in the midst of a lunch rush and they did not rush me, in fact, they were very accommodating. I called several times and they weren't annoyed, rather very sweet, much like family. I've been going to Georges for almost 20 years, with a few breaks here and there. I've read all the reviews here and I can't and won't say the food is terrible, because its not. Their Early Bird Specials are great. Smaller servings, but smaller $$ price as well. I've had pork chops the size of small steaks here. Italian food that's not too shabby for a diner. Bypass the burgers, they're really only marginal. I've really never been disappointed by breakfast, lunch or dinner. I read "cheap bread", they use the same damn Fink break that all diner's use, yeah it sucks, but they all use it. You're not gonna get Wonder (thank God). The coffee is in fact hit or miss, but it is mostly OK. Someone suggested going across the street to Quality, I wouldn't suggest it, they really do suck. My complaints are more on the personnel side. There is one waitress who's so busy saying, "OK honey; what else honey; etc." Basically interrupting your ordering to ask questions that you were going to address anyway so that you're bound to get something wrong. The host, I think its "gus" is the surliest, rudest face of a restaurant I've ever seen. Very rude and unpleasant. When you pay, he'll never hand you your change even if your hand is out. He has no qualms about reprimanding staff, or getting nasty with staff in front of customers, which is uncomfortable. And their staff, are, for the most part, neighborhood people who all know the customers. The bus boys are GREAT! Delivery is normally on the money and despite the above, there is no minimum, eggs, toast & fruit is gonna cost you more than $9. My other complaint is that they allow neighborhood "mutts" to hang out there. One who goes into the bathroom, ladies or men doesn't matter, stays there forever and we won't discuss the the wafting odor that leaves with him. My mom & I went for lunch two days ago. She frequents George's often. I was visting her. We ordered burgers - she didn't ask for cheese, but got it anyway with an extra charge, the coffee was luke warm and our waitress was absolutely obnoxious. She had a hard time understanding my mother's order and was rude and nasty. If I knew that my mother wouldn't get upset, I would have sent the coffee and burger back and reported the waitress. But as I stated, she is a regular with her 88+ aged friends and didn't want to upset her. If anyone has their e-mail address, I like to tell the owner. The people there are VERY RUDE. I went to eat there and the man just pointed to a table for me and my son to sit at. They bang plates so loud right next to where the people are eating. Even for take out when you call in, they answer, "Georges! WHAT DO YOU LIKE?" I mean really, can't they say "What WOULD you like?" The rudest of them all is the Greek man behind the counter, he should take some lessons in being polite. They have been very lazy lately, if you ask for coffee a certain way, two sugars and milk, they put in on the side in the bag. Even if you tell them to please make it because it is hard to fix a cup of coffee in a moving car. The lady said, "I'll just put it on the side." First of all this restaurant doesn't deserve a star at all. i've ordered about three times, believing my experience would be different. However i was wrong this will be my third and last time. i recieve my food and it looked stale as if it layed around for 3 weeks and they finally decided to get rid of it. took one bite and the chicken was hard i felt like i was chewing on rubber. called for the manager, he was really rude. very hesitant on giving his name. i had to basically pull teeth with him. he was very nonchellant about the situation and didn't seem to care. it really puzzles me why some people own a restaurant and choose to mistreat their customers.
