My expectations were so high for this place, I figured this was surely going to be a disappointment. THEY DELIVERED! I tried three flavors with my daughters, Red Velvet, Chocolate with Vanilla frosting and White Chocolate Raspberry. These were plain and simple perfect cupcakes. Some will say they are too small. I don't agree. I think they are perfectly sized with a perfect ratio of cake to frosting, perfectly moist cake, you can see where I am going here. I can't wait to get back to try more! We did walk in with only one person ahead of us, so there was virtually no wait. If I had to wait 45 minutes in a line, as I have refused to do in their Georgetown location, it would have been a buzz kill for sure. read more

Delicious cupcakes and shorter lines than the flagship store in Georgetown. There is a lot of buildup surrounding Georgetown Cupcakes and it would be nearly impossible for them to live up to this hype, but at the end of the day a good cupcake is a good cupcake. That's not to say there aren't better options out there or that they aren't overpriced, but they are without a doubt a tasty treat. I like to stop in for a Red Velvet when I have the chance. Oh the lure of the cupcakes...thank god that I don't have to go all the way to Georgetown to get them (well I never went to the one in georgetown but whatever). We picked out several cupcakes and the one that stood out the most was the chocolate2 (squared). It's weird that chocolate2 had more chocolate than chocolate3 (cubed)...but whatever. Just an update or suggestion, while i looooove their cupcakes, it is better fresh. I strongly suggest going during their peak hours. AND it's usually out pretty quickly on weekends. Their cupcakes are not overly intense in size. In fact, I think it is the perfect size with the perfect height of frosting. The cake is moist and flavorful. They always taste fresh out of the store and that is because they sell so many, they always have to keep baking. It was crowded, but not "line all the way out the door" crowded. Came here after visiting Passionfish down the street as a treat since we were celebrating my cousins 16th birthday weekend. She got the lava fudge which she loved, and I got the salted caramel. Now I normally don't like cupcakes that much and when I do, I go for the tried and true vanilla, but Oh. My. Goodness. If I could give GC 3.5 stars, I would. They bake a good, though not great, cupcake. The service is what gives them the extra half star for me. The staff is friendly and I remember that on my first visit, the guy at the register patiently explained the different cupcakes (Chocolate2 vs Chocolate3) despite the line behind me. As a fan of free stuff, I think it's pretty cool that they tweet the daily flavor and all you have to do be one of the first 100 customers to ask for it by name and it's on the house. So, on to the processed sugar bombs we call cupcakes. They're not consistent. For example, I would never have ordered the caramel apple cupcake but since I happened to be early yesterday, it was my free daily flavor... and it was great! The cream cheese frosting was light, the cupcake was moist and apple-y, and there was a small caramel center (just right since I'm not a huge caramel fan). I love, love, LOVE the peanut butter cupcake! Yesterday, I tried the lemon berry cupcake and it was really good too. Moist and the icing was sweet but not too rich. Made me wish I hadn't told my dad he could have the other one. I also ordered 2 chocolate hazelnut and 2 red velvet. Again, I'm a fan of GC's cream cheese icing, which is used on the red velvet. The cupcake was moist and I liked the texture but the flavor wasn't any better than something out of the box. The chocolate hazelnut was a big disappointment. Very dry and no chocolate flavor. $15 for 6 cupcakes is steep but it's worth it when the cupcakes are on point. I would pay that for the lemon berry or peanut butter cupcakes. Also, I've never seen a ridiculous line here like at the Georgetown location. Another place I wanted to stop by during my trip to DC. I didn't have time to make it to the original location, but where I was staying was very close to the one at Bethesda row, so I made a bee line for the place on my last day in DC. It opens at 10 and I got there at 5 minutes past and there were already a small line! My friend and I decided to split the half dozen and we both ordered a iced chai latte. Georgetown cupcakes have special flavors for everyday of the week and also special ones for holidays. I had the holiday hazelnut, chocolate coconut, and my go to flavor: RED VELVET. The red velvet was DELICIOUS. It was moist and the cream cheese frosting gave it the extra sweetness! I wasn't feeling the holiday hazelnut as much, I thought it was a bit dry, it was still pretty good. The chocolate coconut was delicious, lots of shredded coconut on top and the frosting was delicious. I just thought it was a little bit pricy for the size of the cupcake. The iced chai latte was absolutely delicious. I'm so glad I got a chance to try their cupcakes, and so happy that there will be one opening in NYC!!! read more

I'm definitely not a big cupcake person or even really a big dessert person in general but the cupcakes here are delicious. Why are you only giving it three stars then?, you may be asking. Mainly because there is almost always a line out the door and down the street a little ways. As I said, the cupcakes are really good but I just can't bring myself to wait that long for a diabetic coma inducing treat. They have a variety of interesting flavors. My girlfriend and I got three to share the other night (a Red Velvet, a Lava Fudge, and a monthly special one that was not as impressive as the others). The cupcakes are $2.75 a piece which I was going to say is a lot for a cupcake. But when you think about how much this would probably cost at one of the nearby restaurants its not that bad of a deal. AMAZING!! Georgetown Cupcakes are some of the best I've ever had. A little pricy, but absolutely delicious and beautifully decorated to boot! I've had a variety of flavors. One of my favorites is the Red Velvet...and I've most recently tried toe Lemon Berry which was great too! My friends and I stopped here yesterday since the line was quite short and I had been wanting to try their cupcakes for awhile. My two friends and I each bought ourselves 4 cupcakes to take home. I had the red velvet, cherry cheesecakes , key lime and peanut butter chocolate chip. I tried the red velvet which was not try but moist and had a yummy cream cheese frosting. I also tried the cherry cheesecake which in my mind was the star of the show. It had a graham cracker bottom and then cheesecake with cherry chunks and a cream cheese frosting! This cupcake was delicious. My husband enjoyed the peanut butter chocolate chip cupcake and said it was good as well. Very good cupcakes and a lot of variety. My favorite cupcakes are lava fudge and salted caramel but I honestly have not had a cupcake I didn't like cupcakes. The icing is the best part. I'm giving a 4 star because the cupcakes are not consistent...but they're never bad. They range from just ok one day to amazing another day. 4 stars for quality, 1 extra star for no queue! I nearly crapped my pants when I learned Georgetown Cupcake has a Bethesda location. I figured this was an opportunity to skip the queue in Georgetown and finally try one. I showed up about an hour after open time. The queue was only five people out the door, but it was moving quickly. The interior is cute. Pink is one of my favorite colors, and it's in abundance here. I also like cupcakes, which they happen to sell. The cashier was somewhat annoyed, along with the girls filling the pink boxes or white paper bags with cupcakes on a table directly in back of her. But I probably would be as well with a non-stop stream of customers. What bothers me is that I saw no hairnets or anything to contain hair by the girls handling the cupcakes and the women baking/decorating them in the kitchen, save one woman with a bandana. Either way, I placed my order and handed my credit card over. Total was $5.83 for a Ginger Peach (seasonal - August only) and a Salty Caramel. I received them in a pink box with a black sticker seal with a white flower on it. I sat on a bench down the block with my loot was went in for the kill. Ginger Peach was up to bat first. One of the moistest cupcakes I've ever had. At first, I thought it didn't bake all the way through, but it was slivers of peaches in the cake. It was delicious. And I like the icing - it's not that smooth, velvet crap. Although fluffy, the icing here is the kind where you can feel the coarseness of the sugar. My favorite. The flavor was good, but I didn't pick up much on the Ginger or Peach part. The fondant flower perched atop the icing didn't do much for me, aside from add crunch value. Salty Caramel makes me want to steal from the homeless and smack random passersby. It was THAT good. Moist as hell, and the caramel laced atop the buttercream icing wasn't overpowering or coma-inducing sweet. Was near perfection. Hopefully, this location doesn't become popular enough that the queue is ridiculous, because I'd like to have more cupcakes. read more

My first Georgetown Cupcake experience was shortly before all of the publicity hit for "DC Cupcake" and the little cupcake shop on Bethesda Row was unknown...but only to people outside the DC metro area. It seemed that everyone in and around DC knew of Georgetown Cupcake and was jonesing for a red velvet or chocolate birthday cupcake the same Saturday afternoon as I was. The line for the store went out the door and down the block! I quickly learned, however, that this is a typical occurrence, and if you want some GC, be prepared to wait in line or get there at an off time (IE 10am or 2pm). The cupcakes are good and beautifully presented, and the flavors are of the utmost creativity (mint cookies and cream and the seasonal cherry cheesecake are my favs). All in all, I don't think they're superior to lots of other bakeries, but it's a fun place to visit and it IS cool that the place was featured on TLC. If you are able to make it to the bakery early in the day, be sure to check their Facebook or Twitter for the "Secret Flavor". The business is going down in customer service for not answering the phones in several of their locations. (MD, DC, MA) Some locations you can leave a message or send an email and other locations they just let the phone ring until it stops and hangs up on you. I have no interest going into a store just to ask a few questions which I can't find the answer for easily online. I have called several different times and days because I know things can get busy - but again, the phones have yet to be answered over a period of several weeks (yes, I said weeks) I used to love these cupcakes but this has left a "pasty" taste in my mouth. So Georgetown Cupcakes has been hit or miss for me. My first experience was fairly meh, waited in a line out the door at the original Georgetown location for a chocolate cupcake and found the frosting to be way to cream cheesey for my liking. However I decided to check out the Bethesda location since it was by my house and have been pleasantly surprised! I decided to try the chocolate hazelnut and am hooked. The frosting was not to rich and the hazelnut not too overwhelming. Thumbs up to chocolate X3 and the peanut butter which had a mouton center! Not all cupcakes are available everyday and the space is about the size of the original, which is tiny. The staff is friendly and keep things moving at a good pace without rushing you. A friend from LA was in town so we "had to" get a cupcake from there. Rolling my eyes, standing in line for 20 minutes we got our cupcakes after staring at them in the display case, salivating! These cupcakes look better than they taste and I'll take flavor over aesthetics any and everyday. The line was not super long the day I tried these because it was raining out but there were a fair amount of people stuffed into the bakery. Cupcakes are quite trendy, and for (generally) good reason. The staff seemed a little snooty and impatient, I suppose I understand, I'm sure they are use to being consistently busy. On the plus side they seemed to have worked out a good system for taking your order, packaging the cupcakes, and out the door in a timely manner but it does feel a bit impersonal but that practicality is needed when you have a shop this seemingly busy. Cupcakes are always expensive, four cupcakes cost almost as much as an entire cake. I'm not sure why we justify the cost but sometimes they are really worth it. I know there was one cupcake flavor I preferred over just plain vanilla and I don't recall what it was, chocolate ganache maybe? I'm not all that concerned with it because I won't return it was not worth the cost, hassle of driving there, finding parking, dealing with crowds, so-so taste, or snooty people. I feel like they are more concerned with presenting cute pink packaging, picture worthy cupcakes, and a pretty little bakery to everyone instead of focusing on f-l-a-v-o-r. I know I've said this all before but I hate waiting in lines at places like this, trendy places seem to bring all the annoying people out of the woodwork. If someone offered me one of these cupcakes for free, I'd take it but I'd never pay for them again. They are edible, not overly sweet or overly dry, just not memorable. Approaching Georgetown cupcake I noticed a line and ended up waiting ten minutes. I ordered two gluten free lava cupcakes (which they packaged separately due to gluten allergies) 1 vanilla birthday cake, 1 peanut butter fudge, 1 coconut and 1 chocolate2 cupcake. My new favorite is the Peanut Butter fudge. Three words, To Die For!!!!The cakes are not dry they are actually moist and perfectly proportioned. I continue to be disappointed by the always overpriced and often underbaked (occasionally straight up raw) Georgetown cupcake. I gave them another chance today. They had sold out of many varieties which is hard to plan for. All I wanted was a chocolate cupcake, they had 3 types of chocolate cake left on display. The first I asked for they told me they were out. Huh? There are three of them right there. No those are for display only. Which is dumb because they had six of most varieties but only three of each of the chocolate kind. Ask for a second chocolate kind nope those are out too, even though they are also still on display. Took the last kind available which I'm told isn't filled. That was wrong. Not only is it filled, it's also nearly raw. The cake was so fallen no wonder it was chosen to be filled and the raw middle cut out. They also used what tastes like artificial sweetener, corn syrup, and chocolate to fill the middle and it was nauseating. I didnt eat the cupcake and I'm out $5. Sometimes they're good, but considering at least 1/3 cupcakes I've had has been underbaked, I should really learn my lesson by now. read more
