I wasn't completely sure I could serve myself and checked with an employee who was restocking the goods - she was friendly and helpful! Everything has labels of when it was baked and when it will be discarded. The restaurant itself was clean but the seats could use a good cleaning. Overall, it was great!

Both had oat milk and were creamy and delicious. I think we drank them down in seconds. I also purchased a chocolate avalanche pastry. Since it's a French bakery, I had expected the pastry to be rich in chocolate and not sweet. Instead, it was the opposite. I'm not sure how the other dessert-based pastries are but I'm leery now. The person who took our order wasn't pleasant by any means, but I gave a tip anyway in case they were just overwhelmed and didn't feel like being welcoming. The interior is spacious with plenty of seating with some seating outdoors. The only issue with the environment is that there was a high whistle that filled the entire establishment. That inspired us to leave sooner than expected. Our greatest disappointment was to see that with all of their plastic cups that they did not have any recycling bins.

Most of the big stuff is the machinery to make all the breads and bakery items. There's no seating but a simple counter with bakery items like scones and a back wall of breads. I've been on a sourdough cake lately and wanted to try it but it's really popular and always already sold out. Instead, I ended up purchasing their seven seed bread. You can have the option to have it sliced or not and the staff behind the register said that the bread will last probably 2 to 5 days, but of course can be longer if you refrigerate it. I think also to clear their inventory for the day, it'd be nice for them to discount or do something leftover with the bread and scones since they said they make it daily. The bread is sliced pretty small, but the loaf itself felt heavier than I was expecting. The staff member said that they use whole wheat bread flower, but these pieces are dense. Not like you're typical Wonderbread. Quite tasty overall very good. Just wish that they had more of a selection, but it's definitely an advantage to go early to a bakery as opposed to closer to the end of the day. Staff was kind and overall $8 for a loaf packed well at least keep me full for a couple days.

The young man who answered the phone said they had a few left. I asked if he would put 2 cookies away for me and I gave him my name. What a nice thing to do! Plus, there is a new cookie that I love. The oatmeal raisin cookie is soft, flavorful, and tastes amazing. You definitely have to try that one too. Spring Mill Bread's also has delicious breads. I loved their challah bread. It is tender and tasty. I am looking forward to trying their apple-cinnamon bread. Yum! This is a cute little shop. There are no tables for seating. But, once you try their delicious baked goods, you won't mind at all. You will be in the zone of baked goods delight!

It's always hard to see a restaurant that's been in business for over 10 years close its doors. So, I made the 25 minute drive from Silver Spring to say au revoir. I had a cuppa tea and a raspberry pistachio croissant that I read so much about. It was good, but I think it was over-hyped up. It basically tasted like a croissant with raspberry jam spread inside. I didn't really taste much of the pistachio paste. I'm glad I tried it. I also bought a pain chocolate pastry which I had with my afternoon tea at home. In hindsight, I should've bought some of the non-croissant pastries from the bottom shelf. They were tempting, but I only have one stomach. This place will be missed, but the newish French-Japanese bakery, Tours de Jours will have to fill its shoes.

They have a delicious lavender latte and their croissants are inventive and perfectly executed. The shop itself has a live edge counter to sit at and watch the world go by and a few seats outside. I stopped by this weekend to support them for the last time. Everything was so good-especially the meringue on the yuzu croissant. Best of luck to the people of Lavende in whatever they persue next!
