I've been coming here since the 1980's and it's always been a favorite of mine. The bread is always warm and tasty and the food selections are always delicious. I got the fisherman's platter and my friend got the fish and chips. We both really liked our meals and would definitely come here again. Mixed feelings about this place. A group of us met at this restaurant last night, to try a place we haven't been. Wow. The odor when you walk in, is awful. Old moldy/wet wood smell on top of musty carpet stench? Best way to describe it. If we didn't have such a large crowd meeting up, I would have walked out based on that alone...the mold/must smell was just so pungent. The women's bathroom was clean, the men's bathroom (reportedly... I didn't personally enter, but was told by one of the men that the bathroom stunk really bad and the urinal didn't flush. The waitress was very good. MOST of our chairs (back room area) were all dangerously wobbly. THAT is uncalled for...just basic repair and should be a priority for safety reasons. Two of the chairs were so bad, we had to exchange them with an empty table (plenty of empty tables and available chairs to choose from) for fear they would collapse. That experience was super disappointing, simply because it "screams" neglect and gives (what I perceive as the attitude of "whatever... I just don't care". You mean to tell me that of all of the employees or managers moving those chairs around, not one person thought "Wow...these chairs are really bad...let's secure these legs to the seat/back with some screws?" We cut the bread and several of us took a bite... was not good...an odd strange flavor...then, we noticed the mold on the bottom. They apologized and comped two of our drinks - which was nice. The coffee - barely warm. A fresh pot was made and it was hot, as it should be. My California Portabella (mushroom spinach red pepper and onion) baguette was amazing and very flavorful. A friend had the same with cheese and she also thought it was super good. All of our fries and onion rings were barely warm. Slaw was pretty good. The feedback of others: Flaming cheese "good" and crab cakes "good". BBQ Dino Ribs - "okay... a bit tough" ... taco salad "okay" ... steak "good" ... chicken - "nice smaller portion for a lady, but it was dry". Chopped Sirloin "okay, would not get it again". Prime Rib Dip "good". Three people (two men and one woman) ordered meatloaf and they all really liked it. read more

I have been there twice now and the food has been amazing. Thinking about going there for Thanksgiving, Everybody is just so friendly and it's so nice that you don't have to ask for a second or anything. The waitresses know exactly what you want and that is so refreshing and the prices aren't high like all these restaurants around here.... Susan was our waitress. She was awesome. The place hasn't changed much in the 30 years I've stopped in. That's fine. It doesn't need to be updated. But the food is concerning. Quality is lacking. Greasy and lacks flavor. Our waitress was good, but too busy because they had tables set to far apart at a low traffic time of day. Will never pay this much again for food lacking quality. read more

I have been going past this place for almost 60 years (it is on the road from my parents home to my uncles and now near my office) at least it seems like it has always been there. Today was the day. It looks ok from the road, like a little country inn (which it was before the city grew around it). Inside was very nice, very cozy and extremely clean. The waitress (Chelsey) was very prompt, professional and friendly based on the conversation she had with two older (and slightly loud) gentleman she might be part of the ownership team but if I heard correctly the Inn was taken over in 2000 and Chelsey doesn't look much over 24 so maybe not. I had the chili which was very good for restaurant chili, and a magnificent Greek salad with chicken that I could not finish. Was very pleased with my visit and now have a new spot by the office that I sorely needed. Next team lunch will be here. I should add the chili (which just about filled me up) and salad ran $26, $7 for the chili (worth it), $12 for the salad (a bargain) and $6 for the chicken (worth it). read more

I have been going to this restaurant for over 30 years. This is my go to for prime rib, it is very tender and flavorful, cooked to perfection. They also have dinosaur bones which are the bones from the prime rib that they roast with bbq sauce. It is the best, by far, then any steak houses in Macomb County. They also have the best onion blossom and french onion soup I have ever had. I love their raspberry vinaigrette as well. You get a lot food for the price with many other options then steak. During the holidays they put on an amazing all you can eat buffet. read more

My family has been dining here for 30 years. Yesterday was our last time. We went to celebrate my mom's 75th birthday. Everything was going well, until our main dishes were brought out, except the dino ribs my mom ordered. We were told it would be a few more minutes until they were ready. Sure, no problem. We waited a little to begin eating, but after it became obvious they weren't coming out, we started eating. It wasn't until we were about 1/3 of the way into our meals that our waitress came back and apologized and said they don't have any ribs tonight. Wouldn't that be something she would have been told when she put the order in, or when the cook started preparing our order, or when she picked up the rest of our meals? Now having to order a new meal, my mom chose the medium rare prime rib, knowing it was already cooked and wouldn't take too long to prepare. The waitress said we might get a little something off for the inconvience. Ok, fine. Our waitress never came back to our table, walking past us, not looking at us. We watched meal after meal come out of the kitchen, but no sign of my mom's meal. It wasn't until we were completely finished with our meals and plates had been cleared that she finally came over when I made eye contact with her (still no food). My mom told her at this point to just wrap it up, as she didn't want to sit there and eat with us being done already. I honestly don't know if she hadn't come over how much longer we would have had to wait. After that we had a new waitress. She brought our bill with nothing adjusted. We said their was mention of an adjustment, so she took it to management, came back and said we could have dessert or 10% off. Since we were doing dessert back at the house, we opted for the 10%. It wasn't 10% off the bill, it was 10% off my mom's meal - $3.00. She wasn't kidding - "a little something". We weren't looking for a free meal, just some respect as customers. Mistakes happen; it's how the business handles it that matter to me. At no time did the owner or manager come over to apologize or check in on us. The waitress could have offered to bring more bread so my mom had something to nibble on while the rest of the table was eating. She could have checked on us, at least once would have been nice, let us know how the meal was coming. Not pretend like we didn't exist. Any of these things would have gone a long way to make the situation a little more bearable. I will say my prime rib was very tasty, albeit cold. They messed up two cheeseburger orders, but we didn't mention any of that, because it was minor and we could work around it. But my poor mom did not have a very enjoyable birthday dinner. Thanks for the $3.00. Too bad you lost five customers over it. read more

My Dad loves this place, so I'll periodically make the trek and meet him for the buffet brunch. There isn't anything outstanding about the place, but there's nothing awful about it, either. Brunch is buffet-style, with most of the fare served in warming trays, such as bacon, sausage, hash browns, French toast, and lunchie items such as a macaroni dish, steamed veggies, breaded fish. There's an "omelette station", where you can choose the fixin's, and your omelette is cooked before you. This is what I usually have. There are also soup and salad options, and usually a beef option under the warming lamp at the omelette station. Service is fine, again nothing outstanding... but Dad is super full and super happy, smiling at me from across the booth, and that's what matters :) read more

This is my first time going here. The service was good and our waitress was nice. We ordered SagaNaki as an appetizer, The top of it was burned pretty bad. My French onion soup was good. I ordered the fried perch and I don't believe it was fried, it tasted like it was sautéed. It wasn't bad but it wasn't really that good either. My wife ordered the chicken Alfredo fettuccine. She didn't care for it. The place is very outdated on the inside but that doesn't matter if the food is good. I would say the food was average but not good. read more

Love Apple Orchard Inn! We come here from West Bloomfield. Always makes a glorious day for us. We'd drive 100 miles to come here. The restaurant is beautiful inside and out. Very clean and comfortable ambiance. Their wait people are lovely, cordial and attentive without being pests. This is not necessarily a common set of traits these days. As for the food, if you like great ribs, grouper, beautiful lamb chops--so many of their offerings are simply scrumptious! Cannot wait to return!! See you soon! read more

The food is bland, there is no hot chocolate, lacking breakfast food variety-no eggs, no pancakes, and no toast!!! The bacon contains an abundance of fat and the hash browns were incredibly lacking salt. The omelette tasted rather bland...this is not a kid friendly restaurant. Located on Van Dyke, just south of 29 Mile Road, it does look a bit run down from the outside but we were pleasantly surprised how good the food was. We came in for breakfast, but since the buffet was offered at $10 we decided to give it a try. The atmosphere was quiet, warm and lighting was dim since windows were limited. The decor was a throw back from the 70s-80s with lots of floral wallpaper, faux folliage, brass, oak and mirrors. Even the servers looked like they were from the same era. Bathrooms were clean and stocked. Since it was buffet-style, the server was great about clearing the plates and refilling beverages, however that should be expected. The selections from the buffet were good, offering grouper, salads, pancakes, french toast, waffles, biscuits and gravy, bacon and sausage. Highs: Omelet station prepared by a chef; lots of fillings to choose from. Greeted warmly and friendly service. Lows: French toast gets too soggy from sitting in the covered warming tray. (Maybe they should make that to order too.) Bacon was not crispy enough. Overall, the experience was decent. We were definitely pleased with the omelet from the omelet station. We would come back for that and the warm, friendly atmosphere. read more

Party of 7 - slow night, slow service, Luke warm food, we were ALL disappointed with our food. Waitress and hostess were extremely friendly but for such an empty restaurant it took way too long to get our food. French onion soup - had a nice flavor ...would have been pretty amazing if it was actually hot. I can bet the soup was scooped out of a cold bucket with the cheese thrown on top and set in the broiler or even worse the microwave. Cesar salad was presented well but again ... disappointed in flavor of the homemade dressing. Tasted too much like mayo - which is not a classic ingredient. I have heard about this place for a while. My girlfriend's parents have informed us more than once that this place serves really good food. We have driven past the place a handful of times as the parking lot was usually full and finally stopped in to see what all the hype was about. There weren't many people there a little after 3PM on a Sunday. As I'm writing this review a couple days after the experience, my critique may not be the utmost precise, but I don't have much to say about the restaurant anyway. The place looks fancy. With stained glass doohickeys hanging in the windows and subdued incandescent lighting, it doesn't look so bad. But I didn't show up for a fancy atmosphere. For starters, you're served freshly made bread with whipped butter. The bread was so good, I was thinking about asking the waitress for some to take home! A slight aroma of herbs emanated from the warm bread, making your munchies satisfied with more than just a simple pleasure, but a craving for more. My girlfriend started dipping the bread in my soup, and I followed, but we both came to the conclusion that the bread stood on its own. No need to bring broccoli soup to 'this' party, the party in my tummy that is. I ordered some sort of fish, which came with some options. As previously noted, I ordered broccoli soup, as well as fries. Just as any ol thick broccoli soup, it was naturally good. The fries, though, were the type with that odd outer layer of what can only be described as crumbs. I've been to a few restaurants that serve fries this way, and they don't taste the worst, but they just look and feel like they've been battered for reasons unbeknown to myself. I don't prefer them, but at least they weren't soggy. Some places have really good fries, and I wouldn't add Georgio's to that list. If I would have truly loved the main dish, I would have remembered what it was I ate. It was some sort of fish with marinara, and with a side of spinach. Let's start with the spinach; it was raw. I really have no one to blame but myself on this point, as the menu did specify spinach and not buttered spinach, creamed spinach, spinach with any extra flavor, etc. It was just ... spinach. Steamed I believe, but not much else. I put some butter, pepper, and salt on it, but it was still just spinach. I should get over it though. After-all, raw is healthy. The fish was nothing to write home about. While executed mostly correctly, there were no frills beside the marinara, which was just a marinara. The edges were seared a little past fork tenderness, but the fish as a whole wasn't overcooked. The fish could have used some sort of garnish, or possibly could have been cooked in something with more flavor. While not bad, it just didn't stand out. While I did not order a salad, I tried some of my girlfriend's. I don't know what kind she ordered, but it had chicken, fresh blueberries, and dried cranberries in it. The result? It was actually really good. So if you see some sort of salad with these things in it, I'd recommend it. Also, it was very large. My girlfriend only finished about half of it. I almost forgot - the drinks! I got a "peachtini" (peach martini) and my girlfriend got some other peach drink, with a smoothie texture. While I regret ordering a martini, since I constantly forget that I don't really like them, it wasn't all that bad. If you're the type who likes martinis, this one definitely had a peach taste. My girlfriend's drink, of course, was actually a lot more preferable, and was really good. While the restaurant certainly had some good food, none of it was on my plate. The service was a tad slow, but nothing to get up in arms about. The prices weren't too bad, but they were higher than I would have liked. For these prices, I would expect a little more oompf in the taste. The price for two including $6 drinks was a bit over $30 from what I recall. The menu lacked selection and detail. You know how you go to some restaurants and can't make up your mind between a few things on the menu because they all look so good? That didn't happen here. It was lackluster, boring, and didn't make me want anything in particular. Some creative descriptions would help, along with pictures perhaps. Would I go there again? Personally, I'd rather try out a different place when I'm in the area. Who knows, maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. I thought the fish would be good, but nothing else on the menu was all that alluring or descriptive enough for me to make a better choice. In all, the place didn't stand up to the hype, which is a bit disappointing. read more

We went to Georgio's Apple Orchard Inn last night for dinner. We had not been in many years, and now I know why. To begin with, when we arrived it was practically deserted; there were two other tables in the entire place that had two people at them... not a good sign for a restaurant on a Saturday night. The menu is huge, with lots of different kinds of cuisine on it; American, Mexican, Italian... another bad sign. Most restaurants cannot do vastly different cuisines well, and this place is not an exception. Let's start with the appetizers; we ordered spinach dip, and fried calamari. These are two very basic, innocuous things most restaurants should be able to do decently. The spinach dip was edible. I didn't have any, but everyone else finished it off. The calamari smelled like a bucket of fish parts that had been sitting on the dock for a day. I wouldn't touch it, and no one else could even eat it. I told the waitress it was too fishy, and sent it back. Moving onto the bread, soups, and coleslaw. The bread was medium sized sections of a loaf style bread with herbs sprinkled on top of it. It was sad and stale tasting. It was like they reheated it in the oven and you could tell. It was past the point of being serveable, but they served it to us anyway. The one good thing was the French Onion soup; it was good, and it was not too salty. The coleslaw deserves its own paragraph. Dear Lord. I don't even know how someone could make coleslaw that tasted as bad as this coleslaw tasted. No one that ordered it could eat it, and I wondered why, so I took a forkful of my son's. I literally spit it back out into my soup bowl. It tasted like fish. It also had white pepper in it which smells and tastes (if one could imagine what it would taste like) cow manure. It was absolutely horrific. Does the cook taste the food he or she prepares? Because if they did, they would never serve this coleslaw to anyone. The recipe for it should be burned and anyone who knows it by heart should be made to sign an oath to never make it again. Onto the entrees. Five of us ordered the "Crabby Portabella" which is described as a "Portabella mushroom, stuffed with crab meat and topped with melted Parmesan and Asiago cheeses served over a bed of fettuccine". That sounds pretty good, right? Wrong. The crab meat was so fishy and mushy it could have come straight out of a Fancy Feast can. This stuffed mushroom was plopped onto a pile of fettuccine that had nothing on it; it was dry. It was as if someone scooped it out of the pasta pot, plopped it on the plate, and plopped the mushroom on top of it. I took one bite, and sent mine back. I could not waste my calories on something so inedible. The only reason everyone else ate theirs was because we had been working outside all day, and they were starving. My wife ordered a "Michigan Cherry Salad with Chicken". The chicken on top of her salad looked like muskrat someone skinned and cooked over an open fire. There was some kind of detritus matter floating in my sister-in-law's water. It was all bad. Except for the soup. I felt sorry for the waitress because she did a good job, and she was very attentive. But, how can she make any money at a place with no customers on a Saturday night? I saw this very questionable looking older man lurking about, and wondered who he was. Turns out he was the owner! As we were leaving, someone in our party pointed him out; he was sitting at one of the picnic tables outside smoking a cigarette. I assume it was Georgio. Well, Georgio... it's time for Restaurant 911, my friend. As a final comment, and I'm making no claims on food poisoning here, but I feel I should include it. My nephew just texted me and told me he has horrible diarrhea. It may just be coincidence... however, the coleslaw alone would have given me horrible diarrhea if I had eaten it. Yikes! read more

...got a call from a friend who wanted to go to dinner. He told me to meet him at this place. I pulled into the parking lot (Friday night) and it was packed. We went inside and were given a table in the back. Hostess was very pleasant as were the waitresses. The owner came by and made small talk with us. I always appreciate the small things that separate family places like that versus the national chains. Menu is big with some pretty nice fare. I had the veal parm while my buddy had the prime rib. We both cleaned our plates; food was very good (compliments to chef). Side note: The salad came with this rasberry vinegar dressing (nice touch, excellent!). Overall a few glasses of wine and a very delightful meal; service was consistent and always delivered with a smile. I will be coming back. read more

I enjoy going to places during their off-peak hours. You can really discover more about a place by doing so, you get more face time with the waitstaff, and your food get's just a little more attention than if there was wall to wall patrons. Sunday early afternoon lunch at the Apple Orchard Inn was such an experience. It was very quiet and peaceful. The interior is very charming and subdued. In this day and age of corporate chains with their "goofy stuff on the wall" making every over priced restaurant look like your grandparents garage, it's nice to see a place that is holding it's dignity well. The wine was decent, I mean as far as drinking wine at 12:30 on Sunday goes. The fish I ordered though was amazing and I devoured it. It's a good meal if you look at your plate and are surprised to see you have finished it without realizing. They bring fresh baked bread to the table, still hot and delicious. I drove past here so many times driving down Van Dyke, and for some reason never thought to stop in. Now that I have, I am eager to go again. Highly recommend. read more

It's usually autumn when we stop here-on the way home from the farm markets further north on Van Dyke. Tim likes German food, and this place has an Oktoberfest menu when we're usually out there. A dish like Beef Rouladen, wiener schnitzel or brat wurst plate comes w/ two sides (we had spaetzle and red cabbage today), soup or salad and runs around $12. I'm not wild about German food, but this is a decent meal...and large enough that I ended up taking about half of my meal home. The warm bread, fresh from the oven, and the assortment of German beer on tap, made this October meal the perfect thing to do on a fall afternoon. The menu otherwise looks like your pretty typical steak, chops, fish, burgers type fare. Very quiet on a Saturday afternoon, and a very nice and attentive server. read more

If I could give no stars I would. The food was the worst that I ever had; it had no flavor and was loaded with salt. I waited 20 minutes for the waitress to check on how the food was and by the time she returned I had lost my appetite. We waited over 45 minutes to even receive our food. Our waitresses name was Aryana I believe and she was incredibly slow and did not know how to prioritize her time or customers needs. Our waitress showed no desire to move fast. The wait staff is good and friendly, four of us had the Sunday Brunch. Which was $10,99, so it wasn't the price, it's not the quality. The food needs help. Don't Deep Fry your potatoes! They turn to rocks! Don't over salt the food! You need to do a remodel. We all want to get a good Sunday brunch. This place was better. I'm not trying to tear you down just trying to help. Having moved to this area only a year ago, we are still discovering new (to us) places to eat. We arrived around 5:30 on a Monday to find only about 3 other tables were occupied. The ambiance is decent. Most of the furnishings, adornments and carpeting were somewhat weary, but decent. The menu was pretty extensive, but we both chose to order from the Oktoberfest menu and were very pleasantly surprised. It is rare to find decent German food and they did a great job. Our server was very congenial and helpful, and I was impressed that she freshened my soup bowl before packing it in a to-go container. I read some of the other reviews and tend to agree with the trend that the Inn offers decent fare at a decent price in decent surroundings. We will be going back! read more

Ate there for Sunday brunch yesterday. A nice atmosphere, although the there was no greeter. We were only seated once we wandered into the dining area and a waitress noticed us. Buffet included sausage, bacon, hashbrowns, waffles, pasta, fresh green beans, wax beans and carrots; baked fish, made-to-order omelets, salads, clam chowder, muffins, and watermelon.
