We went to Geppetto because we heard great reviews. For appetizer we have the polenta con taleggio it was good just needed a lot more Parmesan cheese to kick it up a notch. I ordered the Rack of lamb it was cooked perfectly, tender, and tasted delicious but it only had three chops very small portion. My guest had ordered Agnolotti di brasato fill with short rib and leeks outstanding taste ,the pasta was very moist and light. The sauce on top was delicious. The atmosphere was very rustic cute little hide out. Lots of old antiques plenty of things to look at all along the walls lots of Old antique Pinocchio dolls. I love the atmosphere. Very friendly restaurant the waitress was right on point and also cheerful.

My husband and I came here for the first time tonight and had one of the best meals in a long time! The restaurant itself is beautiful and reminiscent of Europe and feels very authentic. The service was outstanding from the start and everyone was very kind and welcoming. You receive amazing complimentary bread and high quality olive oil to start your meal. We tried many dishes and all were delicious. Our personal favorites were the agnolotti and the fried fingerling potatoes. My husband loved his Manhattan and my mocktail was great too. We got three desserts because we couldn't choose and all were incredible. My cappuccino was also one of the best I've had anywhere. We can't wait to come back to try more of their fantastic menu. We absolutely recommend this gem!

I was so lucky to park right in front of the door. No simple feat because it's parrarel parking. The interior is adorable. The restaurant has tables surrounding the bar as you walk in, and in the back one step up is additional seating, which feels a little less crowded. The lighting is a little dark though. The food was delicious. I got the steak in part to get the crispy brussel sprouts, and worth it! Well cooked, well seasoned, they were a great aide. The meat itself was well cooked and seasoned, I would definitely order it again.

I keep a running list of restaurants that I want to try from various recommendations including, Yelp, Open Table, Instagram, etc. Geppetto's ended up on my list even though I'm not sure how. So we made a reservation for a Saturday night which is about a half hour trip for us to Torrington. We arrived for our 6:30 reservation and were promptly seated in the back of the restaurant on an elevated platform providing a great view of the restaurant. The picture below of the cabinet with the various bowls was right next to us. There is an old world feel to the restaurant. Our waiter took our drink order right away. I ordered a Monkey 47 with Fever Tree tonic, which I love (I'm surprised by how many restaurants have one or the other but not both) and my wife had a dirty Vodka martini. I then ordered a Chianti Riserva which was full bodied and reasonably priced. To go with our meal. We started our meal with the seared scallop appetizer special that came with a pistachio sauce. The scallops were perfectly seared with the sauce and other accompaniments perfectly complementing the dish. My only complaint is that $24 for two scallops feels pricey in relationship to the rest of our meal. Our main meals were the rack of lamb and Halibut. Again, everything perfectly cooked, very tasty, with side sauces and purées that were fantastic. For desert we sampled another special that was described as a cake made with almond cookies grounded up to replace the flour with a chocolate ganache called Crescionda. One of the best deserts I've tried. Put this restaurant on your to do list.

I was really hoping to enjoy this newer restaurant due to the many positive reviews but....we (party of 4) arrived at 7:10 and ordered 4 cocktails, the drinks arrived at 8:00, or 45 minutes later. We then weren't offered dinner menus until 8:15 and ordered our food at 8:30. We ended up leaving the restaurant at 9:55 or almost 3 hours after arrival. The appetizer portions were small and lacked flavor. Specifically the artichoke which was impossible to eat and the quail which was flavorless. The lamb entree was raw, not rare but raw, even though I requested medium. I sent it back and was offered an acceptable re-fire. Our server was very helpful, pleasant and apologetic. She comped us two desserts, which was appreciated. The atmosphere is warm but they placed the tables too close together, so much that we had to push in uncomfortably to allow service to the table behind us. I am hoping that our experience was out of the ordinary and simply new restaurant pains but I also wanted to share the experience.

While nothing could take away the joy of marrying my best friend, Da Capo of Litchfield came incredibly close to overshadowing what should have been one of the happiest days of our lives. December 17, we met with one of Da Capo's managers during a casual lunch. We mentioned that we were planning a June wedding, and she enthusiastically told us that Da Capo had hosted weddings before and would be happy to accommodate ours. She painted a beautiful picture of what our day could be. We loved the restaurant, especially the garden, and after that conversation, we were excited to book our wedding there. It felt like the perfect place. A few weeks before our wedding, we finalized our menu with management. We selected an Apple Harvest Salad, Fried Calamari, Da Capo Chips, Rigatoni Bolognese, Chicken Piccata, Penne alla Vodka, bread, assorted desserts, coffee, tea, and soda. We were quoted $46 per person for our 40 guests, and everything appeared to be in order. The morning of our wedding was when everything began to fall apart. We arrived early to decorate, only to find the venue filthy. We had specifically been told that the deck would be power washed before our wedding because we planned to hang wisteria flowers, decorate the space, set up an arch, and arrange the tables ourselves. Instead, there was only one employee there--a cook who also handled landscaping. He had absolutely no idea there was a wedding taking place that day. Shortly afterward, the manager called my husband--not to welcome us or apologize--but to question what he was doing because the owners had seen us on the security cameras hanging our decorations and were upset. Nothing had been prepared. Nothing had been set up. It immediately became obvious that our wedding had not been communicated or planned properly. My husband kept all of this from me while I was getting ready because he didn't want anything to ruin what was supposed to be the happiest day of my life. Looking back, I'm incredibly grateful that he carried that burden so I could simply focus on marrying the man I love. Unfortunately, the problems didn't end there. When we arrived for our reception, we were told that Da Capo "doesn't normally do weddings"--a shocking statement considering they were the ones who encouraged us to book our wedding months earlier and assured us they had hosted weddings before. To make matters worse, there was only **one server assigned to care for 40 guests.** One server was expected to take drink orders, serve appetizers, organize the buffe, refill beverages, clear tables, and serve dessert. This was unfair to our guests and especially unfair to the server, who worked tirelessly and did everything she possibly could. She deserved support that management failed to provide. The food was another enormous disappointment. There was simply **not enough food for the 40 guests we paid for.** Many of our family members barely had anything to eat. Several guests commented that portions were gone before everyone had been served. As the bride, I hardly had an opportunity to eat, and my husband barely ate either. It was heartbreaking to realize that our guests--people who came to celebrate one of the most important days of our lives--left hungry. The professionalism from management was equally disappointing. Rather than acknowledging the problems or attempting to make things right, they were rude and dismissive toward my husband throughout the day. During our wedding ceremony, there were other patrons standing on the deck overlooking our ceremony, creating distractions during one of the most intimate moments of our lives. When my husband respectfully mentioned this concern, instead of apologizing or showing understanding, management responded with attitude and made him feel as though he had no right to even bring it up. On a day when we expected compassion and professionalism, we were instead met with disrespect. What disappointed us the most happened after the wedding. We reached out to management in hopes of discussing what had gone wrong and giving them an opportunity to acknowledge our concerns. Instead, we were met with more attitude and defensiveness. There was no genuine apology, no accountability, and no indication that they understood why we were so disappointed. The overall impression was that they believed everything had gone perfectly and that our concerns simply didn't matter. As customers who entrusted them with one of the most important days of our lives, that response was incredibly disheartening. No couple should have to worry about venue staff, inadequate food, poor communication, or rude treatment on their wedding day. Even more importantly, no couple should have their legitimate concerns dismissed after the fact. DaCapo gets 0 stars what once was a place we loved we will never patronize again.

And looked more like pudding than soup. My husband's tortellini soup wasn't very good either. Then a family with 4 small kids came in and were running around like maniacs. Not once did anyone say anything to them. The little one kept running right by us and even ran into the kitchen twice. At one point both parents were outside and left two kids inside. The only thing that saved a 1 star was the entrees were very good. My chicken Marsala was loaded with mushrooms, the gravy was delicious, and it was nice and hot. My husband's dish was to his liking as well. The waitress was incredibly slow and considering there were literally two tables, that's unacceptable. We had had it with the unruly kids. Probably won't return as we typically just pass through Torrington.

"And so please help (To teach your children) Them with your…read moreyouth (What you believe in) They seek the truth Teach your children well" (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young) When was the last time you ate a meal in a high school? Maybe it was at an award dinner for a high school sports team, or at a Boy or Cub Scout dinner? Or maybe it was way back in the day between your history and algebra classes? Well, we had a unique lunch at Oliver's Restaurant. Why unique? It was unique because the restaurant is located within the Oliver Wolcott Technical High School in Torrington, and it is staffed by students. You see, the school's Culinary Arts program trains their students for experience in the food service industry. It's an ambitious program that uses a public restaurant to provide 1,775 hours of learning and training in all phases of restaurant business - from the public facing front of the house to the back-of-house. If the students decide to enter the food service workforce, they leave Oliver's with a fantastic skill set. The teacher is Chef Michael McDowell, and he had a crew of 25 High School Juniors operating in two rooms preparing the salads and sandwiches, grilling the chicken and salmon and steaks, baking the meatballs, preparing the soups, slicing the complimentary bread, waiting the tables, and every possible activity they will see when the food service workforce. Chef Michael was fantastic as he oversaw the operation, offering nonstop commentary and tips to his young staff - "did you offer ketchup with those fries?", "too much oil in that pan", "check on your customers and get off your phones", "where's the dressing on the side?", "put the dressing in a takeout container for the takeout orders, and a ramekin for the diners", etc., etc. Oliver's has a real dining room with an open kitchen, so you can see and hear the entire class. There was a steady stream of takeout orders, and three parents popped in to say hi to their kids. The freshman and sophs in the Culinary Arts program start with the basics -how to sauté things, make salads, and the like. Today's class was all juniors, and that's when they actually start to operate the restaurant under the Chef's guidance. We chatted with Chef Michael, and he said that when they become Seniors, they really run Olivers by themselves. Our lunch was a $3 cup of clam chowder, a $9 turkey BLT, a $14 Salmon Caesar Salad, and a $4 Apple Crostata. The food was very good, check out the generous portion of turkey on the BLT and the half pound slab of perfectly cooked salmon on my salad. And we were amazed when Chef Michael called us at home to get our feedback on the meal and service. What a wonderful experience! We really enjoyed watching the Chef train his staff and watching them execute his instructions. I hope whoever is reading this, goes to the school and supports these young restaurant workers of the future. I know you'll enjoy this unique experience as much as we did. PRO TIP Olivers is open to the public Wednesday to Friday from 10:45 to 12:05, and they ask you to call 860-496-5369 to make a reservation.
