There's two variables to keep your eye on when you own a restaurant/cafe; 1) The quality of your food 2) The service you provide your customers Although the quality of their sandwiches/salads, at this establishment are good (e.g. turkey avocado & Asian chicken salad), they're customer service is in the sewer. My order came to $29 and change. I payed with two $20 bills, and I received a few coins in return; obviously, the cashier, mistakenly, believed I gave her $30. I, immediately, pointed out her mistake of shortchanging me in a very calm and understanding manner; I expected the same in return. What transpired next was probably the most appalling, humiliating, and unprofessional reaction from a restaurant I have experienced. The female cashier (claimed to be the manager) instead proceeded to engage in a vitriolic, vociferous, accusatory and unprofessional rant; accusing me of trying to get "free" food and, vehemently, insisting that I gave her $30 and not $40. Not wanting to make a deplorable situation more detrimental than it already was, I attempted to diffuse the situation by telling the "manager" to keep my $10 and, I assured her, she would realize her mistake @ the close of business, upon balancing the day's balance sheet. I could go on, but, I'll close by saying that although this place took me for $10; they lost something much more valuable; A customer. read more

I just had the freshest, most delicious chicken curry sandwich on honey corn bread. I only ordered a half sandwich and now I wish I had the other half! The bread was so fresh and the curry gave just the right amount of spice. There was also an assortment of individually wrapped slices of cake and cookies that looked tasty. I went at noon on a Thursday and thought I would find a line, but service was fast and there was plenty of free parking in the lot behind the cafe. Grabbed some lunch in Orinda and referred to Geppetto's cafe. It was my first time here and their selection was pretty impressive. I had a chicken sandwich on a multi grain, with pesto and melted brie. Healthy and light. Im looking forward to trying their Turkey Berry! read more

Almost everything here is delicious. I especially like the curry chicken sandwich, a bit of a surprise from this location. Everything is balanced well and very flavorful. Great homemade bread and croutons. The one sandwich I can't recommend is the Turkey Special - the "herb cream cheese" didn't hit the flavors I was expecting and made the sandwich kind of sloppy and hard to eat. Today I ordered half garden salad and half pastrami sandwich for $14. For the food I received today, I felt over charged. The garden salad was drowned in dressing and my sandwich was sad- little meat and too much bread. Additionally, I reached for a stamp card and was declined because they are only for coffees :(. This place is great for lunch! Skip the slow line at the Safeway Deli and come here for your sandwich instead. The ingredients are higher quality and the service is much better! My fiancé and I were starving for a lunch and we wanted to try something different. We didn't want to travel too far and wanted to stay in the local Orinda area. A quick Yelp search helped us find Geppetto's Caffe. Geppetto's has a very cozy, local cafe vibe. The staff is very friendly. The place is pretty busy around lunch time. The Caffe definitely had many regulars - one of the regulars sitting outside raved to us about the restaurant when we were waiting outside hesitating about whether or not try out the restaurant. For food, I had the chicken sandwich with pesto and brie and my fiancé had a salad and lentil soup. Everything was pretty good. There are definitely a bunch of other menu items that I'd like to try. Geppetto's is my go to spot when I need a healthy lunch. The salads are great and they always have 2 soups made fresh daily. My favs are the salad special with it's yummy cranberries and blue cheese and the coconut curry soup. I always get my grub to go because the place is swarming with Orinda-ites. You now soccer moms and wealthy old farts. But there are a couple tables outside and if you are looking to sit outside on a nice day. Pricing is reasonable for Orinda. I work in the area and there are really only a few spots to choose from. This one is always consistent and really quick with the to go orders. read more

I've been coming to gepetto's for a long time and always enjoyed their food and prices but after they reopened, we did not have a great experience and therefor will be going elsewhere. the majority of the people are the same and the menu is the same which is great but they have upped their prices and the quantity has diminished. my mother ordered a half sandwich and it was poorly made, not a lot to it. my sandwich was $9.00 and had one slice of cheese, one small piece of lettuce, a small portion size paste of avocado, etc. it was really unfortunate that they couldn't accomodate like they used to and for that reason we will be going to other places. read more

Chicken Brie Pesto. With Lettuce and Tomato. On Ciabatta. So delish! I love that they toast it, makes it taste so much yummier. I also liked the taste of the pesto with the chicken. But at the same time, though it is good I do think it's slightly overrated since there wasn't that much creativity involved. read more

I went here for the first time today and had a nice time. I only got a Vanilla Latte because I didn't have time to eat but their menu looked great. The lady who rung us up and also made our drinks was adorably spunky and sweet. The girl bussing tables was also very polite. I'm picky about my coffee and so this is what I have to say... * The coffee was pretty good for my taste preference. I'm ot going to comment regarding "quality" I think that is absolutely up to the person drinking the coffee. It was not burnt/over or under extracted/bitter etc... It was made well, as for the roast, etc..no idea. I just know I was happy with the taste. * The foam was "ok" but not spectacular. (I used to work at a coffee shop...and foam is basically my favorite part of any coffee drink.) *The barista did a WONDERFUL job though when I asked her to put just a hint of vanilla in instead of "a lot." I am very appreciative that she listened. I won't ever go back and complain about something as "non-issue" as the amount of vanilla in my coffee but she got it dead on and I was very happy with the drink. Nothing kills me more than asking for a specific amount of pumps and or specifying "half the amount of vanilla" and then getting the most sugar laden vanilla-y coffee-esque mess... * My cousin got a hot chocolate with whip and she gave an extremely generous amount of whip. This made me SUPER pleased. There is nothing more dissapointing to me than ordering a hot chocolate/mocha with whip and getting the teeniest dallop. There's something magical about being able to NEED to grab a spoon to tackle something yummy. (I also wasn't expecting this because it looks like a very "almost boring" hole in the wall cafe, nothing ostentatious about it, which is a MAJOR plus. I felt like a little kid looking at all the whip she put on the hot chocolate--it was exciting, I had definitely expected a very "reasonable" amount of whip.) * We sat outside... there is really nothing to look at except a teeny little street and a golf course. There were some well established trees between us and the golf course though and they're very pretty. The front court yard is cute. Overall it was very quiet and very pleasant. I don't think I'd want to really do my studying for HOURS there, the chairs were normal patio/wood/metal chairs? Nothing cooshy. BUT, if you aren't a chair snob then this place is actually idea. On a nice day I could see bringing maybe reading in the front outside area for a little while (maybe up to an hour or so before needing something more comfy)... It has a very homey, welcoming feeling. I REALLY like coffee shops and the vibes they give and I'm picky.... but I'd definitely go back if I found myself in the area again. Geppetto's has a great location on a tree-lined street across from the golf course, so on a nice day you can sit outside and enjoy the views. The menu is fairly limited, but most of the sandwiches I've tried are quite good. Prices are reasonable for the area. The coffee is better than expected for a sandwich shop. The people who work there are friendly and the service is good. Overall, this is a good neighborhood hangout for Orinda locals, and since there aren't many cafes in the area, a good spot for a quick lunch for the folks who work nearby. read more
