This is our meeting spot for our club every Tuesday for years! We hangout there for over an hour. The place has lots of outdoor seating with umbrellas. During inclement weather we move to the breezeway near the garage. Joe, the owner, runs a very efficient and friendly shop. Many of us order a breakfast sandwich with our coffees and some of us get a pastry. His young helpers are always pleasant, even when the place is overrun by nannies,strollers and babies! The increasing cost of coffee is obviously impacting Joe but he is holding on to his price list. Great place for coffee, breakfast and lunch! I ordered on line a club sandwich and in the notes asked it to be toasted . When I went to pick it up I asked the manager Mia , if it was toasted and she said no . I showed her the notes in my order and she said she didn't see it . Didn't offer to remake it or anything no sorry nothing. I came home and opened the second sandwich and had requested Dutch crunch but it was on a soft roll . I called back and Mia answered and I asked about the Dutch crunch and she said they didn't have it but didn't inform me when I went to pick it up so when I started questioning her she said I was not listening to her and hung up on me . I am an Orindian and never experienced such kind of service extremely rude and disrespectful. I would never go back there . This kind of behavior by a manager is not expected. read more

This cafe is tucked right next to the Orinda library. They have a nice patio area with lots of seating. I love their iced tea and my daughter likes their avocado toast and mango smoothies. I work 5 minutes from here and found this cafe 2 yrs ago to have great service, food, and lattes. However, the past few times I've been in the service has really gone down. The wait times have been longer and I have tried mitigating that by calling ahead, but the other day when I called a young lady answered and let out a huge sigh when I asked what the specials were today since they're not posted online. She placed me on hold with a tone so I just hung up and went elsewhere. I gave them the benefit of the doubt since everyone has bad days, and went in again. There were a few people sitting down already with food and drinks, and i was the only one up to order. I got a small iced latte and a one specialty sandwiches. It took 20 minutes! I could order a sandwich WITH SIDES from a restaurant in downtown Orinda and it would be ready within 10 mins at most. A small cafe when it's slow, there should be no reason to take that long. Another time, I purchased a holiday special drink and the guy took 10 minutes to make the drink, and ended up messing up by not adding the syrup that makes it special. I think it was a marshmallow smores drink something like that. I ended up taking it as is because I wasn't willing to wait another 10 minutes. Mind you, there wasn't a line that time either. Staff seems disengaged. Like they hate working at this cafe. Their trash was disgustingly overflowing last time I came in too. Ugh - will not be coming here any longer. Cute little cafe that I came across while browsing Yelp spots in Orinda. I met a friend here around 10 AM on a Saturday morning and there were a good amount of folks sitting at the tables outside and eating. We quickly placed our order and it was ready in about 10-15 minutes. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with bacon & half the cheddar cheese ($5.95) and it was delicious! The egg was nice and fluffy and the bacon provided the perfect amount of saltiness and texture. If you're looking for a brunch/lunch spot, I'd recommend giving this place a try. My friend ordered the tuna melt and also enjoyed it. Prices are reasonable, 3 hour parking is pretty easy to find, and if you come on a Saturday they have a nice little farmer's market within walking distance. read more

Cute little cafe that had been below the Orinda library since the library has been at that location. Small and quaint, it is not trying to be Starbucks (not really enough room to study, but that's what the library is for). In the age of Covid, the doors and full-size windows fully open so that it is naturally very well ventilated. Now for the menu: again, not as many coffee offerings as Starbucks, but some decent breakfast and lunch options with several different sandwiches, bagels, and avocado toast. Yes, avocado toast. This one has two slices of bread on it, like an avocado sandwich. Jenbert Jr and I like the strawberry smoothie served here. It's refreshing on a hot day. Service is good. My company moved its office to Orinda in 2021, and I've been to this place 15-20 times for lunch. Friendly staff and nice space. The sandwiches are decent enough. However, I have noticed the last few times I've been there that shrinkflation is going on with the sandwiches - they are putting less meat on them, while the prices have stayed the same. Honestly, I would rather them just raise the prices and keep the sandwiches hardy than the other way around. 3.5 stars. read more

This is a great cafe and continues to be so during the pandemic. The owner is often behind the counter taking your order or making your coffee and food. He is so friendly and welcoming. The coffee is fantastic and the pastries, bagels, and food are wonderful. I haven't been there as much since the pandemic but recently went and it was as good as i remembered. There are lots of outdoor tables and a big outdoor area for patrons to eat/drink and be far enough away from others. If you are itching to get out to a good coffee shop this is the place especially with the abundance of outdoor space nearby. read more

I'd place Cafe Teatro in the same herd as hospital cafeterias, restaurants in small regional airports, and coffee counters in convention centers. Half-hearted and kinda depressing. If you're just completely desperate, you can get coffee and a bagel in the morning here, or a sandwich or salad at noon. But it isn't likely to be anything memorable (or at least not a good memory). I had the heavily promoted Avocado Smash on Toast and it was essentially, or...no, it was actually just half an avocado smushed into a half slice of toasted sourdough, cut in half and folded into a sandwich. There is a pleasant tree-lined and shady patio in front where you can sit and sip a coffee, and that situational serendipity counts for a big chunk of the place's appeal. read more

This is based on recent experience, I don't remember having an issue with this place in previous years. The last two times I've gone here I was met with poor quality espresso drinks and bad attitudes/scowls from teenage staff. I saw there was a lavender latte on special, sounded lovely, but it was so overly sweetened, sickeningly sweet, that I couldn't even drink it. What a waste and a shame. I would have told them, but I was with my kid and we were on our way to his soccer game. His hot cocoa was also really bad, watery with no flavor. We threw both drinks out, and this was an expense for me. I work at a high school, and I'm a friendly customer, so it really stood out how downright depressed looking and unfriendly the young staff was-- maybe because the man overseeing them was extraordinarily unfriendly and obviously not training them how to make drinks properly. I asked a barista where the baked goods are from, she didn't know and asked him, and he grunted "distributer" at me without making eye contact. Gross, no thanks. Their 4.3 star rating does not reflect current service or goods. What a waste of a beautiful Orinda location, with prices that are unearned. read more

I've been coming here for about 2 years now. The staff is always friendly, even on days when they are extremely busy. I always leave with at least 3 pastries lemon bar, cheesecake and mocha bar are my favorites. I usually call in my order and it's ready when I arrive. I'm so glad they've been able to stay open during COVID-19 season. Sandwich ingredients are always fresh and good quality. Coffee is always perfect! Will be visiting again this week. read more

There's something really "homie" and "dainty" about this place. Located in orinda, I had some free time to kill so while walking I saw this little cafe located next to the orinda community center and library. It's a small cafe that can seat about 20-25 people by has outdoor seating. They have a mediocre menu for their coffee, but they also offer sandwiches too along with pastries such as cheese cake, brownies, pumpkin muffins and a granola oat jack. The staff members and I'm assuming owner were all very nice, pleasant and welcoming. If I ever have free time again I would definitely come back here. read more

This is a review for Café Teatro catering during Covid19. (August 2020) That's right: Cafe Teatro does catering!! We were having a social distanced meeting with 14 people. Our group was a mix of vegans, gluten-free vegetarians, hearty meat eaters and everything else. Your usual crowd of demanding tastes. I sent the Café Teatro lunch menu (available on their website) to everyone in our group, and they emailed back their selections. I created a master list to share with Café Teatro for a 10am pick up the next morning. At 10am, the sandwiches were ready to go, each packed individually with the person's name labeled on each item. That made it extremely easy for everyone to find their selection, without handling & opening up all the packaging on everyone else's lunch!! Everyone in our group marveled at the quality of the fresh and tasty sandwiches and what's more: they all got exactly what they ordered (down to the no mayo, or extra pickles, gluten-free bread or etc.). I highly recommend Café Teatro for catering your next group meeting. By emailing our list to Joe the day before our meeting, they were able to make sure to have all necessary ingredients on hand, and the order ready to go on time. We were able to satisfy everyone in our group! Café Teatro has an expansive lunch (and breakfast) menu which makes it extremely easy to meet the needs of everyone at your next catered meeting. This is my first time to write the review but actually this is my 3rd time to came here. The sandwich selection is pretty good and the veggies are all fresh and clean presentation! The price is pretty reasonable and very convenient from my office. People are very friendly I tried pesto and fresh mozzarella sandwich and avocado and cheese sandwich. Both are delicious! I am a big fan of this place. It is right underneath the Orinda library and a short walk from the Orinda Community Park I frequent for work. Whenever I take the children I take care of to the park, I like to stop by here if it is a little chilly and order a Chai Tea Latte. The Chai Tea Lattes are very good and reasonably priced in my opinion. The baristas work quickly and offer wonderful customer service. How cute is Orinda. This lovely cafe is nestled between Orinda's community center and local library. The art and architecture are captivating and impressive to say the least. The customer service was standard. They have what appeared to be two young high school teens working the register. At times I found it challenging to get their attention as they would frequently tuck away behind the register to chat. Overall it was a great location to study without the noise of most hipster invaded cafes in oakland. The pastries where very tasty and the drinks wear also good. If you have a sweet tooth I recommend the brownie/ cheesecake and lemon bar also try their mocha Bianca. read more
