Parking lot is nice but meters are suspicious, people get ticketed unfairly often which worried me. I've re-reviewed Tutu's a few times now since the experience is different each and every time despite everything about it remaining largely stable. The menu is unchanged, the servers are all pleasant, and the establishment is large enough that I don't think we've ever been turned away on a Saturday night without a reservation, which is often pretty difficult in Lafayette. However, sometimes the food is seriously underwhelming or even downright bad. I don't mean it's spoiled or anything to be avoided, but just really not tasty / restaurant quality. We're talking about watery, bland minestrone with mushy vegetables that even salt and pepper couldn't render very edible. We're talking about grilled fish tacos that tasted acrid due to burnt tortillas, adorned with a small piece of flavorless fish that even hot sauce couldn't save. I left most of the meal untouched while contemplating how many more chances to give Tutu's. It's very much a homestyle restaurant that's not trying to be fancy in any way, but "homestyle" should still be good!! read more

We've been to Tutu's a few times now. My partner hangs out and works here some mornings while my girlfriend and I walk the Lafayette Reservoir nearby, and then we meet up with him afterward either at this spot, or at Lafayette Public House right across the street. Tutu's has a charming, European-style patio that's cozy and well-shaded. Great for hanging out and people-watching. The interior is very nice as well, and they have an indoor produce market that I will check out more closely next time. They have an extensive menu with breakfast staples and other options that sound very good, but we typically just stick to coffee and champs/momos - breakfast of the champions! Service is always terrific. On our most recent visit, Luis was our server and took excellent care of us. Genuinely a very nice guy. The staff is attentive, and checks in regularly, but never rushes us, which is awesome. Really nice spot in Lafayette Circle. read more

It's close to other restaurants including Safeway store. The vibes that this restaurant gives is so cozy and warm like when you go to your moms house and she offers you to sit by the fire while she prepares you a nice hot chocolate or coffee while you wait for the amazing food she just made. That is how this place feels. Alright let's talk about the outside of the place very clean very organize. There is outside seating for those that love fall and want to see the leaves fall down it's very lovely they even have heating lamps outside ready to be used. Now when you go to a restaurant you normally don't expect shoppers inside but this place has it all. They have a small mini store inside the establishment. Which you are able to buy produce, deli, meat, wine, and dairy. Not something you see in a restaurant but this works. Everyone is very nice and friendly loved that so much about them. Today I had the honor of meeting the general manager Vanessa she welcomed me and asked me if I wanted to get started with something to drink. I immediately ordered a small apple juice with ice. In my head I was expecting a mots apple juice in a cut of ice but what she did next blew my mind. She grabbed two fresh apples and put them in a juicer and gave me the most freshest apple juice I have ever had. It was so good a must try. Now for food I decided to go with brioche French toast with a side of mascarpone. Since I have barely gotten off work and walked around the block I was not as hungry but did wanted to eat something. This was the best decision I made. When the food arrived it was so nice and looked presentable which again is a must since not only do we eat with our mouths but with our eyes too. The smell of the fresh berry's gave this dish a hint of fall in a plate. I decided to start eating man o man when I say hats off to the chef. This was the most freshest breakfast I had in weeks. After I was done with my apple juice I notice that they had pear listed in the menu I decided to order a small pear juice with ice. Not going to lie it was not one of my favorites but no food will be going to waste so I finished the juice. Over all the food was amazing definitely something worth trying. Now for the moment of truth is this place Dendinger approved? Tutu you have earned a customer for life I will definitely be back to try your menu very soon. Experience was so so. Their organic burger used to be delicious but this time it was overcooked. I wanted medium and it was definitely well done. Not nearly as good as before. I also wanted 5-6 slices of apple pie for our table for dessert. Fat Apple and Tutu's have the best apple pie in East Bay in my opinion. At Fat Apple the waitress told me the last time I was there, that if I wanted a few slices of apple pie I should buy a whole one which would be much cheaper than per slice. She would serve my table as many slices as we wanted and if any excess I could take it home. However, at Tutu's, the waiter told me that if my table ate the slices at the restaurant, we would have to pay the per slice price. Totally different concept of customer service. Ordered Lamb Chops (med/rare)-arrived overcooked & impossible to chew; replaced with med/rare lamb chops only to be totally rare, but the roasted potatoes were ok; Chicken BLT w/Minestrone soup-ugh...the soup was leftovers from some other dish & the Chicken in the BLT? My sister and I went here for lunch and it was a slow build to an excellent experience. Upon realizing the owner and name was changed on this establishment, we decided to visit. We entered through a door that we weren't quite sure if it was the main entrance or not but were immediately greeted by the host upon entering the establishment. Once inside we were offered a small wait for outside or inside seating as well as a no wait option at the bar. The bar was chosen due to it's unique wrap around visibility to allow us to take in the entire place. It was not only a restaurant but a walk-in market offering raw meats, salads, fruits and vegetables. There is even a self service refrigerated drink section along one end of the bar. We sat down and received menus to review the options. The menu is expansive and features flavors from all over the world. Even Ube made an appearance which was a joy to see. I ordered the grilled chicken BLT sandwich and was offered choice of fried or a side salad. I saw a few salads go out ahead of my order and quickly jumped to the salad.. I mean, they are a market of freshness! The sandwich did NOT disappoint and neither did the salad. The house vinigrette was delightful to the tongue and not stripping like usual. Then I ordered pumpkin ice cream and ginger spice cake for dessert. It came with homemade whip cream and an unexpected caramel drizzle. The cake was okay but the pumpkin ice cream was amazing! I would get just the ice cream next time as a diabetic but together was also a winning combo for those who like a middle of the road level of snap to their ginger spice flavor. And for the final course, I really enjoyed my iced Americano made by Luis. The lunch was exactly the experience I was looking to share with my Sissy. Disappointed. Came to have lunch with the family. The Cafe mocha was lukewarm but I drank it. Daughter's hot chocolate was cold and had to send it back. I got the bowl of tortilla soup, I enjoyed it. Nothing special. Wife was recommended the, Smile noodles, and didn't like it so she ordered an English muffin that took 10 minutes to come out. I know it was a busy Saturday afternoon but the service was terrible. The ambiance is fun. Options to dine inside or out and they have a market inside, I didn't check it out. Had a recent dinner reservation here with my mom and a couple friends. The variety of the menu is always great and service excellent as well. My mom and I split the roasted chicken which was cooked and seasoned perfectly. We also had our own cup of the seasonal soup which happened to be butternut squash (one of my personal faves). For dessert the table split the coconut cream pie (very subtle and not too sweet) and the seasonal crisp a la mode (pear and huckleberry). Both options were excellent and a great cap to the dinner. The food was decent overall -- not amazing, but not bad either. The noodles were really good, and the vegetables were tasty too. However, the tofu was completely unseasoned and bland, which was disappointing. The sauce was a little watery and runny, and could have used a lot more flavor. I came here today for lunch with my 11 y/o. The place was packed both inside and outside but we were seated quickly (under 5 minutes). I love the decor and the warm ambiance-like visiting a friend's house. I ordered the chicken BLT with minestrone on the side. The minestrone had a lot of flavor and was filled with lots of veggies + house-made croutons. My sandwich was so delicious I finished it even though I should have saved half. My partner walks with a girl friend of hers weekly around Lafayette Reservoir and I hang out while they talk girl stuff....I don't even want to know. So I lately have been hanging out on the patio at Tutu's. It's nice, real nice. Usually just get coffee and champs or if really hungry some eggs or just a couple sides of bacon. Once my partner and our friend arrive it's Momo time for them. I have been inside once but prefer to hang outside with the dogs, people not so much. We stopped in for a late dinner one night. It was my first time here. The patio was nice, with lots of heater to keep diners warm. We decided to sit inside and were able to be seated immediately. Came in around 8:15 PM on Friday night and sat on the patio. I ordered a salad and water. The salad itself was great, and honestly I would have happily ordered a glass of wine or maybe the goat cheese if anyone had checked back in - ever. What made the experience frustrating was the complete lack of follow-through despite the amount of staff constantly hovering around the patio. There were multiple bus boys and waitstaff circling in and out over and over, yet nobody asked if I needed anything, refilled water, or checked on the table. At one point my water glass had been completely empty and my finished salad plate had been sitting there for at least five minutes. My waiter then came outside and specifically checked on the table right next to me about dessert while completely bypassing me and heading back inside. At that point I just gave up and asked for the check myself at the counter. As someone who waited tables for 10 years, this is exactly what confused me. Basic restaurant service usually includes a check-in shortly after food arrives ("How's everything tasting?"), another midway through the meal for refills or additional orders, and then a final pass for dessert/drinks/checks. None of that happened here tonight. What was especially strange was having multiple bus boys and staff constantly moving through the patio area while my water sat empty and my finished plate remained untouched. If there are five people circulating the floor, why is not one person empowered to notice an empty glass and offer water? That disconnect is what made the experience feel so bizarre What was especially surprising is that I've been here before and had great service, so this felt very different tonight. I love the diner atmosphere here, but this evening felt less like hospitality and more like a cafeteria -- lots of movement, very little attentiveness. Honestly, this kind of disconnected service is part of why the Bay Area has developed a reputation for poor hospitality. The food was good, but the patio service and staff coordination tonight were genuinely disappointing, and it directly cost the restaurant additional orders from me. I also noticed several other tables that had clearly finished their meals still sitting with dirty dishes and empty glasses for extended periods. In restaurant service, "pre-bussing" -- clearing finished plates and keeping tables maintained throughout the meal -- is a pretty standard part of creating a comfortable dining experience. It seemed like that basic flow was missing across the entire patio tonight, not just at my table. read more

They should know that I am a regular customer, which is why this review is especially disappointing for me to write. I came here on Father's Day and was dining inside when I witnessed two supervisors loudly yelling at one of the servers. As a customer, I felt extremely uncomfortable and honestly felt terrible for the employee. No employee should be reprimanded on the restaurant floor where customers and coworkers can hear everything. Do they not have an office or private room for those conversations? What made it even worse was finding out that one of the people yelling was the owner, Claudio, along with another supervisor. The way they spoke to the employee came across as rude, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional. I could hear parts of the conversation from my table, and it changed my impression of the management immediately. I have been a loyal customer, but seeing an employee treated that way was upsetting. Employees deserve dignity and respect, especially in front of customers. Unfortunately, this experience left such a negative impression that I will not be returning. read more

This is a super cute half market half dine in style restaurant, they have one section inside where you're under a lit up tree and it's very adorable! They are accommodating every single time when it comes to switching up the meals. Taste fresh. The pesto pasta comes with penne and no protein ~ we switched the pasta to fettuccine noodles and added chicken .. which by the way, spot on!!! The spicy Thai chicken noodles come with fettuccine and we switch it out for fusilli, also a great dish. Walking around Lafayette, we came across Tutu's and dined here due to the variety of options on the menu and the Yelp reviews. Staff and Service: - We were seated right away, which was great. There is indoor seating and outdoor seating on the patio available - Once we were seated and received water, we were forgotten about. We aren't sure if we came right when a shift change happened between lunch and dinner, but we didn't have a server. We waited for about 20 minutes (and it wasn't busy at the time) until someone finally saw us looking around and came over shocked that we hadn't been helped yet. Someone else came over to take our order, then passed us on to someone else mid-order. This third person then started over because the initial person taking our order apparently confused them. So we went over our order again. - From there, it was smoother, but not sure what happened with communication in the beginning Food and Drinks: - Smoothie: they had one smoothie on the menu which was a banana berry smoothie. This had good flavor - Burger: I think they forgot seasoning on this burger. It was very bland and brought the overall burger down. All the other local brunch spots in Lafayette Circle were packed and had long weights, and for some reason tutus was able to seat our group of six right away! The staff is all super nice. Our waiter happened to be a fabulous artist, and one of his paintings was for sale on the wall! The food was good. I love that you can order breakfast stuff and lunch stuff at the same time. We just TRIED to dine here, but things didn't work out as we'd hoped. We sat, ordered coffee, and then were approached for an order but they weren't serving what we wanted until lunch. No problem. We just needed a FEW minutes to decide on something else. We ended up waiting over 20 minutes with no attention because they were busy. They had one server and he never came to ask if we were ready to order--we just watched him take every other table's order. At one point, he passed by quickly to see if we were good (with a thumbs up) and we thought that was the signal to finally order. Nope. He kept on rushing and walked away. I finally caught the hostess who brought a drink out to the table next to us. She offered to take our order, but I insisted that she be made aware of the situation. There was no apology--just excuses for being busy with one server. Hire more staff! That strain shouldn't be put on the customer who's paying for overpriced food with poor service. No thank you. I came for dinner a little after six. I was seated outside immediately, which I really appreciated. The staff were friendly. I ordered the fish of the day, they had three choices, petrale sole, halibut, and salmon, I ordered the petrale sole, it came with ratatouille and polenta. The food came out fairly quickly. The polenta was excellent! Flavorful, great consistency. The fish was grilled, and didn't seem seasoned. At all. I didn't really know what to make of it. When fish is fresh it's flavorful and doesn't need much, but this really didn't taste like anything. My waitress did bring me lemon (she offered, I didn't ask, which was nice), which I relied heavily on. That, and lots of salt. I added salt several times. Some parts of the ratatouille were warmish, others were lukewarm. It was mostly onions, tomatoes, and red bell peppers, but there was one piece each of yellow squash, spinach, and a tiny piece of broccoli. Also a few eggplant skins, but none of the eggplant fruit (or "meat"?). It was bizarre, it seems like it was made of leftover vegetable scraps. The vegetables were pretty soggy and not very vibrant looking, I think maybe it was originally overcooked, stored, and then microwaved. I don't know, the food was confusing. I ate it because I was in a rush. The wait staff did fill my water regularly, and again were kind.
