The complimentary garlic bread was a highlight--packed with garlic flavor, and the bread itself was light and airy. Thought I'd give this place a try tonight. Right off the bat, I'm guessing the manager was angry I didn't automatically know the accepted procedure for placing an order. Apparently there is a certain way to do it. When I got there, he was equally as abrupt. The pizza was not bad, but I wouldn't do it again. The toppings were so sparse; my recommendation would be to double up on toppings so you get more than a hint of them on your pizza. The crust was super fluffy and had a nice crunch to it. The pizza was really good, some of the best I have had in a while​. The waitress was also really attentive. I am not sure if it was because​​s of​ewe were​e​e the only people there or if she was attractived to my devilishly handsome brown eyes. My glass was full of Pepsi, and I didn't even have to ask for the shredded cheese. It just came to us with the pizza. Everything was perfect, although it was just shy of $35 for one medium pizza and two drinks, which I felt was a bit too much. It seems like someone is overcompensating for their small-town charm. If it were more affordable, I would hop on over more often, but the price makes me want to stay inside. Ordered a 14" sausage and mushroom pizza for my daughter and I and a Caesar salad with anchovies for the other half. The pizza is always perfectly cooked with the right amount of cheese, meat, and mushrooms. The Caesar Salad was also good. There was only one server tonight and she was the sweetest girl. She checked in on us, got us refills on iced tea, and was very polite. The bill came to $39 with two non-alcoholic drinks and we used a restaurant.com coupon that brought the total to just over $30. This has become our go to pizza place in Lamorinda. We took a break a few years ago when new owners came in and had some bugs to work out. But now we can wholeheartedly endorse them again, and go there often. The place was rocking last time we visited, on a Friday night. Not an open table in the house. Mostly families and some seniors. The pizza was hot and fresh. The service was great, friendly and fast. The dining room is cozy, with warm wood, nostalgic decoration, and TVs showing local games. It's the kind of place where they recognize their regulars and greet them like old friends. A lot of low star reviews, many from people who only have a handful of other reviews. That always makes me suspicious. Were they written before the ownership change? Could be. Neighborhood kids (and sadly, adults) with entitlement issues and an axe to grind? Hmm, could be too. Anyway, I'm adding a star to my rating to help balance those out. Dunno what they are talking about in those reviews either... Skimpy toppings? I had pepperoni and olives falling off the pieces. Freezer aisle crust? Uhhh no I don't think so. It was fresh, light, and crisp in all the right places. Not the same as Zachary's? Really? Wow. Orinda's Village Pizza. Yelpers had distributed the star ratings quite equally for them. I guess it depends on what you like with your pizza experience. I was interested in what a pizza place in upper-class Orinda would be like, especially seeing that it doesn't look like typical Orinda from the street. Inside, it's comfortable, and I like that. Checkerboard tablecloth, wood paneling, sports on the TV, old newspaper clippings on the wall, all add up to a place to relax, good for a guy married to a Texas native and with a girl in kindergarten. It's the kind of place where residents leave their castles to go to with their circle of friends. An easy two-minute drive from the freeway. Keep in mind that Orindans have been keeping Village Pizza in business for almost 30 years. Surprisingly, they sell other foods besides pizza. You won't feel weird ordering a burger, meatball sandwich, or tiramisu; they have those too. Our waitress said that kids love the pasta with butter; sounded gross to me and the hunny, but our girl ate the whole thing. Prices are mid-range. Okay, what about the pie? Skipolini's in Concord and Zachary's in Oakland are far better, and priced the same. But it's still quite good. Pepperoni + sausage + salami + linguisa + ham = satisfaction. Five thick slices of this equation = one happy and full Ron; three was more than enough to fill the hunny. They also have the build-your-own option. Now, I understand people make mistakes, and this one was forgivable. But here's the issue. I'm ok with people making mistakes, it happens, how you handle those mistakes tells me who you are. When told that it would take another 15 minutes, they didn't acknowledge their mistake, they didn't apologize, offer to comp us 10%, nothing. I mean, how do you not even acknowledge it?? Rude. My husband and I have been coming to Village Pizza for years. I don't know why it has taken me so long to post my review because we love this little restaurant! My husband always gets the veggie pizza with added chicken But I always get their pasta and meatballs. This is the one place that knows how to fix pasta Italian style. The pasta is always cooked perfectly and served with olive oil, fresh basil and tomatoes. It's delicious and not soaked in awful sauce like most places serve pasta. Warm garlic bread is served as well. The salads are always made with very fresh ingredients. Beverages are very reasonably priced. To add to the pleasure of eating here, the place is immaculate! "No pizza for you!" Age discrimination. They have a mini pizza (a "Kid's" pizza) that I have been ordering to go for a few years. Recently I was refused their mini pizza because I am not a child, even though they offer this same Kid's pizza with salad during lunch. This pizza is the right size for me. All of my life people have been encouraging me to eat more than I want. I found a place where I could buy just what I want and then they say, "No pizza for you!" When I asked for a arnold palmer I was told they would have to charge me separately for the tea and lemonade. Sad! Village pizza is ho hum - the toppings are skimpy, the crust is tough and flavorless and it is expensive. I haven't tried anything but their pizza, but I don't think I want to go back. Their entrees, which I haven't tried, seem to be VERY pricey. Interesting to note that Casa Orinda, the best and fanciest restaurant in Orinda with terrific service and ambiance, has less expensive pasta dishes than this informal "pizza joint". Really! The food is made with such care and preparation and with each bite your reminded that someone actually hand made this. The staff if I credibly welcoming and delightful to say the least. Just got delivery last night. Pizza was so good! It's not the fancy type so if you're looking for that you'll be disappointed. Crust was soft, cheese was plentiful, cooked to perfection. Update: Well, I hate to do this...but I'm so disappointed. I drove from Martinez to Orinda tonight just for Village Pizza, and I feel cheated. First, I'm told they no longer have Personal size pizzas, so I order a small. I get there to realize the "Small" is their old Personal (smaller).But the price of the old Small. Then, I get home to see that they've also dramatically reduced the toppings. Literally, 1-2 pieces of pepperoni per slice and maybe 2-3 pieces of pineapple...and the cheese was so light I could see through it. I asked for light sauce and got light everything. I'd heard they'd cut back, and last time they had stopped giving soup/salad w/ entrees but upped the price. Also, the woman at the front wasn't super friendly, just got a weird vibe. Sadly, don't think I'll be making that trip again... :( Previous review: Love the Casual, comfortable, family friendly atmosphere. I'm not even a pizza person, but when I crave pizza, it's Village pizza. The crust is amazing - soft, doughy and crispy at the same time. I know prices have gone up in recent years, but we all have to do what we gotta do to survive in the Bay Area. And last time I checked, Round Table isn't cheap, either. Worst Customer Service!!! We called and placed an order tonight, 11/13/2020; we've actually ventured from our local pizza places to support Village Pizza...however tonight we had the worst experience. Our order was placed over the phone, it was read back to me, and the order taker even gave me a total amount for our order. My husband drove to pick up our order, which wasn't found. They said "you must have called the wrong place", "we don't have your order", "nobody here took that order, because you didn't call here!". My husband called me from the restaurant to see if I could call the last number on my call list, I called it and the person speaking with my husband answered.....hmmmm, So I didn't call the wrong place. The employees at Village Pizza were so rude; this could have been dealt with if they would have taken the "Customer is always right" approach and offered to just place our order at the time my husband arrived and apologize.
