We really like going to Gerhard's. Our last visit was marred by horrible service from a very inexperienced server, bit that's not the norm. The bar offers a wide variety of options and special drinks. Prices are reasonable. They served Brad with a pimiento cheese butter which is unique but good. The pizzas are thin crust, and very good. They have a variety of traditional German and Austrian dishes, very authentic and quite good. There are two dining rooms, one formal, one casual. Menu is the same in both. read more

I love this place so much. Their food is amazing. I love the bread basket and they have really good pizza. Their entrees are delicious as well. I will say that they can be overpriced with their entrees. It's definitely a place I don't go to that often because of the high prices. More like once a month or so. The perfect spot for a small intimate dinner or for a large group celebration. We recently hosted our sons wedding rehearsal dinner at Gerhards and everything was beyond perfect. There were 21 people and Gerhard's staff made everyone feel the personal service you would expect when having a dinner for two. Even with our large group everything was freshly prepared nothing was pre made. We had appetizers, salads, the main course and desserts. Most delicious meal from start to finish. The staff was courteous and attentive. This will be a regular place for nights out as well as our go to restaurant for any future large family get togethers. I would definitely recommend Gerhard's to anyone visiting this area. read more

Recently dined there. It's still great! The bacon wrapped pork tenderloin is excellent. And the place is always busy...even on Tuesday at 6:30 PM. I love the German house salad (the one with "4 things"...they'll know what you mean! I sat at the bar since I was alone. They do a good bit of take out business also. I had to check and see why this place didn't get 5 stars. The low reviews were because some thought it pricey (it's not), and some didn't like the atmosphere (must have expected something else). I am originally from Spartanburg, but have lived in Savannah the last 15 years. If this place was there, you couldn't get in without a reservation. When people ask me the best place for dinner in Spartanburg, I send them here. It's in a shopping center, so you're not getting many drive-by, walk-ins. read more

Food was great,service was awesome but PLEASE do something about seating. It is not fun to go to a restaurant and have to basically stand at a table while other people are trying to eat & wait for them to get up so you can have a table.We were told at the door to go in and find our own table & wait for the other guest to get up. I went to eat here for the first time with friends who had read some good reviews. We were all very disappointed. Service was terrible, our waitress was more interested in talking to a table full of her friends than doing her job. After ordering drinks we waited 20 minutes for them to be brought back to our table because our waitress stopped to talk to her friends for 15 minutes (I timed it) before going to put in our drink orders. We had to flag down our waitress when we were ready to order because she was sitting at the table of her friends talking. She acted put out every time we asked her for a refill on a drink. When we finally got our food I was very disappointed. It was OK, but definitely not a dish worth $20. Just a cut of meat with fried onions on top and some fried potatoes. I would not go back here to eat even if the service were better just because I don't feel the food is worth the price. read more

There are two sides to Gerhards. I've always heard amazing things about this place (the right, more laid-back side anyways) We ended up on the left, nicer side and for the price I was just not impressed by any of it. Maybe I'll venture back one day and try the other side out. read more

What a lovely discovery! We entered the fancy dining room, I knew that this was an Austrian restaurant, not German as I had thought. The menu is a clever mix of American, Austrian, and a few German dishes. I ordered the Hunter's Medallions of Pork, my wife the Veal in Cream Sauce. We were both transported back to Graz, Austria, where we had lived for two years. The "marinated vegetables" dish was our favorite "Gemischte Salat"-- order it; it's a nice change from your typical lettuce salad. Next time, I'm getting the Rouladen. The menu was at least half American, so don't avoid this place because it has "German food". I'll be back! read more

We were visiting town for the first time & searching Yelp for a nice, non-chain-restaurant meal. Saw the wild game on the online menu & had to go here. On the Saturday night we arrived the "Formal" dining side was full but we were told we could seat ourselves in the "casual" side, (which was better for us given our jeans & shorts attire). We were advised the full menu was available on either side. It was a bit awkward wandering around among the crowded rooms to find a table but a couple of servers were quick to help get us seated. After a cup of the amazing she-crab bisque with hearty homemade flavors and a perfect kick of heat (required for this soup), our salads came quickly but were a bit disappointing in that they were just bowls of green lettuces with no other toppings. The blue cheese dressing I got was delicious, however, and tasted homemade. Husband ordered the quail & mushroom risotto, I opted for the elk rouladen with red cabbage & spaetzle & daughter got the crab cakes & parsley potatoes. My husband was making yummm noises with every bite. I tried a bite of daughter's crab cake. It had good flavor but was a bit on the mushy side with more breading than crab. My rouladen seemed a bit dry but the rich hunter's sauce was delicious. I didn't care for the spaetzle as it was chewy-gummy, but I've not had spaetzle before so maybe it was as it should have been. The red cabbage included on my plate was slightly pickled and tasted like spiced beets - which I love - and the texture was crisp tender. The service was great with beverage refills coming quickly as needed, and we struck up a friendly conversation with our server who seemed genuinely interested in ensuring our visit to the area, and the restaurant, was memorable. The menu is extensive with something for everyone - from burgers to finer cuisine - and we hope to have an opportunity to be back in the area to try other dishes they offer. read more

The southern oysters Rockefeller are amazing. They told me the trout was baked but it was breaded, but none the less tasty and topped with generous amount of asparagus. The dessert prices ( there aren't any on dessert menu so beware) were laughable: 6.99 to 9.99! And they will automatically add 20% gratuity and then give you a bill with a place to add gratuity, so again be careful! Actually it was quite enjoyable meal and the meal prices overall were fair, just take care to avoid sticker shock! read more

Poker tournament on Monday nights at 8 in an open air bar. The only negative I can mention is the location. It is in a strip mall but for this place that can be forgiven. A great neighborhood spot! I am an out of towner and this place is top of my list each trip! I am usually traveling for work, dining alone so get a spot in the bar area. The bar area is always full of friendly regulars. The staff here are awesome! Always very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating! I order the Shrimp and grits (just a half order for me), which comes with bread and pimento cheese spread and also a side salad. Plenty of food! The shrimp and grits is the non-traditional type, a grits cake with the shrimp served in a rich cream sauce. My mouth waters just thinking about it now! I got the Thai salad dressing with the side salad, which was delicious. I finished off the meal with a piece of lemon cake, just my style, not too sweet. Perfect ending to the meal. Drinks are reasonably priced, food is pretty pricey, but the half order more affordable. read more
