Germack is traditionally known for their nuts and other sundries. But did you know that they have an awesome little coffe/tea shop now in the Eastern Market? Just across the street from Shed 2 and a block up from the famous Russell St. Deli is a lovely tea/coffee/espresso/spice shop. Went in this Saturday to get out of the cold and check it out and was presently surprised. They roast their own coffee which you can buy and take a cup to go, as well as peek in the back and see the roasting process. They have walls full of tea and spices that you can buy in bulk too. I bought a few goodies and a chai to go, although there is plenty of seating for those who want to sip and chill. The staff was awesome, attentive and knowledgeable. The espresso is fantastic - low acid/"burn" flavor - totally smooth. Also ordered a PB&J bagel - cashew butter & local preserves. A bit heavy on the cashew butter - but - very tasty. Can't wait to stop by next time I'm down at Eastern Market. read more

This has become a tradition of my girlfriend and mine. Saturday morning we come here to grab beignets from the nearby food truck and enjoy them with pour-over coffees. They have only a few options but all four current flavors (of the pour over coffee) I've tried have been excellent. They also have a few interesting food items but really the coffee here is what keeps us coming back. The staff has always been friendly and will chit chat with us while we wait for our coffees to be prepared. They do a few things only but do them well. The seating is limited but I have never really seen it packed. If you're looking for a quality cup of coffee that makes starbucks look like toilet water then definitely try this place out. read more

Really great pour over coffee and chocolate latte's. If you're in a hurry, and like anything other than drip coffee, expect to wait 10 minutes. However, longer waits is what I've come to expect with really good coffee. Stay awhile and enjoy the experience and atmosphere. I recommend the Colombian Roast pour over. read more

I've been a fan of Germack for a while and was excited that they were opening a coffee shop in Eastern market. The coffee was okay (although a bit burnt tasting) but I found the service to be mediocre to rude. They were disorganized and took a while to even serve me, and when they did they were quite short and seemed to be having a lot of fun having a conversation among themselves that I was breaking up. I really hope they are able to improve their service soon as it is giving Germack a bad name. read more

The coffee here was excellent and the staff is clearly knowledgeable without being pretentious, which is hard to come by in places that take their coffee seriously. I got a pour-over of the Mexican and it was indeed excellent. The store is well-stocked with lots of high-quality coffee and tea equipment as well. My only complaint is that the way the registers were laid out I wasn't sure where to order but that's a pretty minor complaint considering the coffee is the important thing. I would definitely recommend this place! I came to kill some time while waiting for my pizza at Supino and was not disappointed. read more

I love their rose syrup and that is the only reason I come here. If it weren't for the syrup I would never come here again. The workers are the rudest and weirdest people I've ever met. They don't say hi to you at all, they just all sit there and stare at you and giggle to each other. I feel judged every time I go in there. Not friendly at all. read more

DARK ROAST COFFEE!!!!!!! quality, fresh, dark roast coffee done right. Just wanted to get those words in the first line for yelp searching. The coffee...like I said, quality, fresh and diverse. I am also a huge herbal tea drinker. I've been to some of the best tea houses around America and I am just very impressed on this front as well. The spices: I am a cook at heart and found the "spice rack" a utopia. The ambiance is casual and laid back. Music was at a decent listening level so I didn't have to scream to talk. There is plenty of parking outside along Russell. The customer service was very attentive and knowledgable. I cannot express the level of my gratitude and the fact I am so impressed. I am not one to brag, but I have been in the best of the best. This place ranks as one of THEE BEST diverse Coffee/Tea/Spice establishment I have ever visited inside and outside of America in my short 40 years. And that's a fact! 7 STAR FOR ME!! read more

I come here to get spices, tea and a cup of coffee when I am down at eastern market. The staff is extremely polite and helpful, atmosphere is laid back and cozy, wish there was more seating. It definitely is a grab and go kind of place. The spices and teas are affordably priced, and they also have a bunch of Michigan made items along with the nut roasting shop next door. Great if you are looking to get some gifts during the holidays. You also get a 20% discount if you get more than 4 oz of tea of spices, and you have to get a minimum of 2 oz of tea or spices so it makes sense to get 4 oz of items. They have dried peppers, vanilla beans and a wide variety of organic spices and teas. As for the coffee, I have had better but it is definitely better than a chain coffee shop. Lines can get long as there are normally tour buses that are dropping bus loads of people off to explore Eastern Market, Supino's and Rocky's. I say 3 starts for the coffee, 5 stars for the spices and teas. read more

The baristas/cashier were still happy and totally nice-- even when I was a complete pain in the ass and had to change my order because I messed up what my friend wanted. Came here on a busy Saturday after hitting up Eastern Market. The line was long but moved fast and there service was excellent! I got the Sumatra drip coffee! It was excellent and only $2! I've been here a few times and usually order the Mocha and sister pies buckwheat chocolate chip cookies. Best. Cookies. Ever. Sometimes, however, my mocha is sweeter or tastes different than the time before. So consistency among baristas may not be the best. It is a bit pricey but worth it for Germack. read more

Went to Germack for the first time at the recommendation of a stranger's random note at the DIA Coffee/Chocolate exhibit. Got the Mexican / Spanish / Spiced coffee drink and it was absolutely heavenly. A bit of a long wait for it but totally worth it for a quality cup. Didn't sit down though to fully experience the atmosphere, but it's situated in a cozy location in Detroit, and thankfully not in the heart of it so finding parking is possible. It's just too bad there aren't more as I work rather far and don't venture to Detroit too often. I'm hooked! read more

This is probably one of the worse coffee house I have been to. Very unfriendly baristas. I asked for the closing time since I got there around 3:30 and they didn't even know and next thing you know I am out of there at 4:30 without finishing my drink.
