I have been coming to Bert for years and he has always taken AMAZING care of me. The first time I came I called because I had a check engine light on and didn't feel comfortable driving it to my previous mechanic who is a few hours away, and Burt told me to bring it in to get it checked out. They were able to tell me what was wrong with my car and if it was safe to drive to take it somewhere else as well as topped off all of my fluids. Do yourself a favor and avoid this shop! They have absolutely terrible customer service. I dropped off my car at 9 am in the shop for just a battery change. The front desk woman told me it's only takes couple of hours which makes sense since it's only a battery change. I called them at 2pm since I never heard about them and she told me, she'll check and get back to me but she never did. So I called again at 3pm and someone else picked up the phone and told me it's gonna be ready by 4pm and I need to pick it up by 4:59pm when they close the shop. At this point it's 4:30pm and I have not heard from them so I call back again and the same front desk girl picks up the phone and tells me she needs to check and call me back. I asked her please put me on hold because last time she didn't call me back. A minute later she tells me the are still working on my car but should be ready in a few minutes. So I rush to the shop before they close. When I get there, I complained that she told me my car will be ready in couple of hours but it's been 8 hrs and my car is still not ready. She with an attitude tells me that no I told you " 2 HOURS FROM WHEN WE START WORKING ON YOUR CAR"!!!! Never taking my car there again even for battery change read more

Walked in and sight unseen not only did he correctly diagnose what was wrong with my 2008 BMW 328i (keep in mind I parked around the corner so he never even physically saw my car), but he also knew about a 15 year warranty that are on some of these models. He then sent me to BMW of San Diego and told me it should be free as it was under this SULEV warranty and sure enough it was. (Also told me to come back to the shop if it wasn't covered and that he would waive the diagnostic fee and only charge the repair fee). He did not charge me a dime, didn't ask for anything. So this place is a god send if you care for your car and want to be given respect despite being a complete airhead when it comes to auto parts. I have an Audi A3, and Bert (and the team here) have been very accommodating. I've come here (putting the dealership behind me) for brake pad replacements, car battery complications, and other emergency needs. They have been blunt with me, speaking plainly with respect, and very informative. They even have offered me advice that goes directly against them earning an extra buck, just so that I knew what was best for my situation, which is always something you can value in a business. I chose to spend the extra buck for my own convenience but there is honest people here. 10/10 recommended and they will continue to have my business. read more

Me: Hi, how much do you charge for inspection 2? Dealer: $695 Me: Ok, thanks I went to German Auto Center after the dealer quoted me this price on basically changing the fluids on my car. Omid is a very knowledgable and friendly guy. He told me for sure you will spend $80 today for the oil change and filter and if it needs something else, I will call you. He went in and changed the oil and all the fluids in my car and did an inspection as well as reset the computer and RECOMMENDED but didn't say I had to do service on the transmission before 100k miles, same with the spark plugs. Total cost? $200 including labor. It entailed fluid changes, all the filters, reset the computer, and a front to back inspection. The dealer was charging me $695!! Yes all ye who own Fine German Engineering, there is an honest mechanic out there!! Complete with a semi passable german accent!! I love this place and I am now a client for life. read more

I had an emergency with my car had been going there for years and was told they could not get to it for about a week, I made an an apt on a Wed and they did not even look at it until Thur at that time they where going to keep it the whole weekend so I picked it up without repairs. I had to rent a car and took time off work to get this done it sat on the street for 3 days at least on a busy street where it got scratched. I payed for a diagnostic on my car and was told they still did not know the problem charged me for a part for $800 and the next day my car was still not fixed they then told me the part would be $4,000 dollars to fix and would not give me my money back not happy! I took it somewhere else and they fixed it for less than have the price of what I was quoted. Do not trust them, especially being a women! I felt totally disrespected! read more

I have brought in my '11 VW Jetta twice since I have moved to San Diego, once for alternator failure and another for throttle body issues. Bert has explained every detail of the problems to me and only replaced with OE+ parts. Not real happy with these people. I have taken my MB there 3 times. First time service was pretty good. Next time I took it there to repair the turn signal light on the driver side mirror; did not properly troubleshoot the problem. The last time I took my vehicle there, for an oxygen sensor issue (won't pass smog). I was told you have to replace all 4 oxygen sensors at one time. I asked can you do one at a time, to save me money? His exact words were "it is not worth my time." Won't take any of my German autos there again! read more

It is unfortunately rare to be able to trust a mechanic. Most people do not know enough to be able to judge the truth about whether a repair is needed or not. This is doubly true when your car is German and thus vastly more expensive to maintain and repair. Omid is the rare mechanic you can trust absolutely. He and his mechanics are honest, fair, efficient and highly skilled. We have had our Mercedes with him for four years and he has always done excellent work, but not more than was necessary and with a thorough explanation of what was needed and the cost. I had a laundry list of problems with my BMW (fan blower wasn't working, oil change and check engine light were on, rattling under my car, etc) and brought it in for an inspection. Omid, the manager, was very reassuring and got back to me the same day about the repairs my car would need vs. the ones that could wait until later (the ones that wouldn't be a safety issue). When it came time to decide what to get fixed, Omid took the time to explain what the repairs would entail which made it easier for me to make my decisions. Being able to speak with the manager was helpful and not intimidating at all. The German Auto Center is located two blocks from the 923 bus line (if you're coming from OB or Downtown, it's convenient), but they offered to give me to and from home when it came time to drop off or pick up my car. And they also washed my car, so yeah, that was nice. It's definitely better to go to a specialist for German automotives, and I highly recommend this place, because they are reasonably priced (relative to what a dealer would charge) and a friendly business. read more

I love these guys which is really odd to say about a mechanic shop that you almost cringe knowing you are probably going to get wallet raped. Especially being a female, you tend to wonder if you are getting the real deal or if they are tacking on a bunch of stuff due to your lack of car knowledge. Not these guys though. The first time I went in I will admit I toted my boyfriend along just to make sure all was on the up and up. I have been in a handful of times since by myself because these guys are so awesome and straight forward that I feel totally at ease. Omid has saved me a bunch of money that the dealer or other places would have greedily gobbled up. I tend to call them every time a light comes on or a noise is made and Omid never seems to mind squeezing me in to check it out or top off my oil and send me on my way without opening my wallet.
