Unfortunately, cancer took his life. Joes is right next to my house. 5 years ago I took a chance as my breaks were going out. I totaled the car two weeks later. Not because of the brakes. Just an accident. However, they knew exactly who I was when I walked in with my new vehicle. My new vehicle has been repaired by these guys a few times. From oil and transmission fluid changes to a complete brake job with new rotors. Not one problem. I even thought my radiator was leaking and took it in and they told me it was just my AC fluids. Whew. They did flush my cooling system for me though. It was about time anyway. Love these guys. Trust these guys. Though not overpriced, they are not cheap either. Amazing, honest service. We thought our 99 Tacoma was leaking fuel which is, of course, cause for alarm. My boyfriend depends on using his truck for work, so we called at 12:30 in a desperate attempt to get it looked at before they closed within a few hours on a Saturday afternoon. The gentleman I spoke to was more than happy to get the truck up on a lift in order to diagnose the problem. What really stood out to me was that he didn't try to up-sell any crazy work when he found that the fuel we were smelling was leaking from one of the work tools in the truck cab. (Better to be safe than sorry, right?! LOL). Instead, he took the time to thoroughly look the car over, found the source of a smoky-smell & didn't even charge a fee. Moved here 8yrs ago and never found a great mechanic (had 3)....till now. Took my baby in, an 03 Tahoe with steering issues, bad front brakes, and the ABS light was on. First thing, the steering had been progressively getting worse over the last 2 years and none of my former mechanics picked up on it. Same with the ABS light...been on, and no one could fix it properly so I lived with it. Rod @ Joe's was AMAZING! ABS light gone! Brakes feel great...can't wait to feel then after proper break-in but smooth so far...and YES!! He ended up replacing my steering gearbox and that was the whole issue. Drove smooth as the day I bought her new off the lot. Lastly, the dreaded part....the bill. Ron went thru it with me, and it all made sense, and he even took the time to explain the what and why's. My car was making awful loud noises and I was worried it was serious and I wouldn't make it home safely. I took it to Joe's at 4pm, they looked at it right away. Turns out the wheels got knocked out of alignment. They jacked it up really quickly, tightened the lug nuts, straightening it out and only charged me $40! Super quick & painless. Called Thursday when they opened to see if I could bring my car in to have the transmission looked at for a possible leak. They told me to bring the car in at noon that day. I called back at noon before bringing the car in and they said they could not see me that day because they were too busy. The next time they could look at it would be Monday at 9am. The man I spoke to took my name and info down for a 9am Monday appointment and stressed that it was critical I let them know if I could not make the Monday appointment because they were so busy. I agreed and said I would be there. My husband arranged to ride his bike into work that Monday morning, and I moved some work meetings around so I could take the car in. I arrived at 8:30am Monday and told them I had made an appointment and the man there said come back in the afternoon! The man who works on transmission won't be in until later in the day...maybe 12 or 2pm! What a joke. I asked if I could leave the vehicle as I cannot come back in the afternoon. They said, there is no room to leave it. I can't rate this place on the quality of their auto service, but in terms of communication and scheduling, this place is horrendous. I actually took a bicycle in for a repair. I was on a long bike ride and I was many, many, miles from home when my handlebars started to loosen up. A very dangerous condition on a bicycle! I rode around pt Loma trying to find a wrench to tighten up the (4) screws that were holding my handlebars on. I even went to west marine and the parts guy said these are specialized fasteners and you probably won't find the tool around here. So I headed east down Rosecrans and saw Joe's auto Repair. Well, it doesn't hurt to ask. The owner can out with a smile and said "what seems to be the problem?" I explained that these were some funky star handlebar bolts on my high end racing bike and he said "no problem!" He went back to his cart and immediately picked out the right tool. Hallelujah, I've been saved!!! He even had me sit in the bike to make Sure the handlebars were in the correct position. Then with a kind heart and caring hands he fixed my baby!!! My boyfriend took his car in to get repaired , heard a grinding squeaking noise from tire , they had told us it was a certain type of bearing. The cost was way over the top but their story was that they had to " get it from the dealer" so with lightning speed they got it and installed it . Noise and handling got worse. Took it back in and they told us we don't know it may be the tire...... really . So went and got a new tire today.... the noise is now worse than ever and we are afraid we are going to loose steering in that tire . We would go back since it should be free however we do not want to risk it getting any worse . good luck. Update 7/12/13 Had to replace the whole axel today because joes auto repair did not realize you cannot replace only the bearing in a honda, you have to replace the bearing and the hub together, they are a matched assembly, so once again NEVER GO HERE! it will only end up costing you more money!!!!!! read more
