    Original Polish Sausage with Spaetzle
    J F.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Super cute inside![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was good and friendly. Cute German employee outfits. I ordered the Polish Sausage with Spaetzel and it was great! Wasn't expecting the sausage to be so big. The spaetzel does not look great presentation-wise, but trust--it's good I promise you!!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is adorable. It's like you are sitting in someone's home for a wonderful dinner[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. We enjoyed the food. Service was on the slow side so make sure you leave yourself plenty of time.

We were here for lunch and had potato pancakes and one of their daily specials, a Polish sausage sandwich. the potato pancakes tasted homemade and were OK but the sausage was cut up into thin strips instead of being served intact like most sausages. Service was on the slow side. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Decor was mixed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place had a lot of seating but this day there were only 3 groups having lunch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Free parking. Good enough but nothing special. There were other German dishes on the menu but we just wanted a light lunch. Full bar.

    Buffet for 2

We had a change of plan because we didn't realize our preferred restaurant was in a different town so we decided to stay in town and see what it had to offer. We had this place recommended by somebody at work. When we first entered on a Thursday night it was not that busy. The maître D/front of the house did not seem too friendly and it took a while for us to get seated. Our server on the other hand was super friendly and nice. We ended up, selecting the buffet option for two, which gave us a variety of different sausages, German sides, and potato/noodle dishes. I will preface my review, saying that I have never been to Germany before to eat authentic German food. I have tried other German restaurants in United States. I found the sausages to be above average. The pork schnitzel was OK. The meatball was super dry unfortunately. The German noodles tasted like gnocchi and it was not that good. The other sides were on par. I can't say that this is the best German meal I've ever had in comparison to other places I've been. I really wanted to give it a high rating however, the food is average, but the server was top notch.

    German Food. Platter for two

German Cafe is truly amazing! The food is always good each time we visit. The platter for 2 people is our took choice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Quiet place without the loud sounds.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Awesome food, great service, excellent atmosphere![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Everything was absolutely amazing!

What a cute little German restaurant within walking distance of the French Lick Hotel! It feels like you're walking into someone's home. The kind waitress explained the menu to us, and my friend and I opted for the German platter for two. It was PLENTY of food, and it's a bummer we couldn't take it with us in to go boxes, because everything was delicious. Dining options are limited in the area, and I'd recommend checking this out. If you're staying at the Resort, the 24 hour trolley will bring you here, too.

    Perfect German beers!

There are lots of items on display almost like a small museum. Don't forget the gift shop. I was thrilled. Obviously popular, the clientele was experienced, but diverse. While I did not hear German discussion, I might have. Next to the restaurant is a building that is their catering. It was as big as the restaurant. Walking in, the sign said to seat yourself. Sometimes that means a delay in a server finding you. Nay, nay. She was prompt, attentive and knowledgeable. She was great. Because I scanned the menu ahead of time, I knew that I wanted the trio of wursts. They were among the best I've had. My server talked me into the potato salad. It was great. Along with the wursts, I ordered a salad and completely enjoyed their house made blue cheese dressing. The beer menu had Spaten Special. Spaten is a rare treat for and this is the first time I have even enjoyed it on tap. When I was leaving, I was able to buy a six pack of harder to find German beers. My adult son loves German beer and did not even recognize one I brought that he loved. Restraining myself, I made only modest purchases in the gift shop. This will not be true next visit. As far as the museum aspect, there are many displays. Down one wall are many car models, train models, liquor decanters and numerous other German items. I sneaked into a closed dining room with great displays of stein and wine history. A few times a year, I head from TN to IN. I will make this a two day stop. Oh, did I mention there is a hotel right next door to keep my safe from driving after enjoying a few great beers on tap?

Atmosphere is fun, it really embraces the German decor (saw a review or too calling it kitschy, in a good way, which I think is a fair description). Service is friendly and attentive (and in the costumed German garb to keep with the themes). Lots of classic German dishes (several schnitzel varieties, brats, spatzel, etc.). I won't say anything I've had over the years blows me away, but haven't had a bad choice either. The Wiener schnitzel I had most recently was tender and tasty, with a perfectly fried batter, and the German fries were nicely crisped on the exterior and beautifully seasoned. Good beer selection (including some brewed for the restaurant), reasonable wine list...love that you can go all out and have your beer in the classic giant boot! Small gift shop as well, some souvenir items as well as some candies and food options.

We had a couple cocktails in here and the service was excellent even though it appeared they were filled to capacity. There were 4 of us in our party and we were seated at a table in the corner near the bar. Was definitely a cozy spot with so many people being in there and the bar being full. I had The Holy Ghost cocktail and it was a pomegranate hibiscus sour, it had just the right amount of sour! I do not like bitter drinks and this one was good and easy to drink. My husband had a couple of dark beers, I do not remember which ones but he liked them. They had a nice outdoor area but it was a bit too cool for that but it may be worth a return in the Spring to check it out. Bathroom was also really cool as the decor and theme spilled over into it. When we went on a Friday night, there was live music on the biergarten's patio, but it was so loud that even indoors, you could not hear your conversation. Upon arrival, even though we had a reservation, and there were only four other tables dining, service was pretty slow to be seated and the poor waitresses seemed overwhelmed. I will say the waitstaff is exceptionally friendly, even with a busier biergarten. The food, I'm sorry to say, leaves much to be desired. Presentation is unappetizing, and as some other Yelpers have mentioned, the meal is definitely not a feast for the eyes. I wish I could say the flavor was better, but everything was bland and underseasoned. My husband, who's never met a sauerkraut he didn't adore, could not even finish his meal. The portions are small for the price, but honestly, the flavor was so underwhelming it didn't matter how much was on the plate. The decor seems very throwback, replete with tourist tchotchkes and and faded pictures of Germany. The dark wood paneling does lend a moody, Germanic air, and from what I understand, they have a large selection of beers on tap.
