Tandoor Char House has been one of our go-to spots in Chicago for years. We come here regularly, and the food is always incredible. Everything is packed with flavor, fresh, and consistently delicious. One of the things that keeps us coming back is how welcoming Faraz is. He genuinely cares about his customers and always makes us feel appreciated when we visit. Our favorite dishes are the chicken karahi, chicken tikka masala, chaat fries, papadum, and garlic naan--they're all absolutely amazing and are a must-order every time. Another thing we love is that the food is just as good when we order delivery as it is when we dine in, which says a lot about the quality and consistency of the restaurant. I was able to come to the actual location and try this out after trying their chaat fries at taste of last year! I am so glad I did because it was a great experience. The inside is very vibey and they have jazz music playing. It can get a little loud but nothing you can't have a conversation over. The service was super fast and very helpful in checking in and making sure we had everything we needed. The owner and chef also came out to deliver our food and ask us about our email which is a very sweet touch! The food itself was great and flavorful. We've been here a couple times now and we love Tandoor Char House. We've gotten the palak paneer, tandoor chicken, lamb biryani, the tikka chicken tacos, garlic naan, and mango lassi. All of it is super delicious and very flavorful! It's one of our favorite Indian spots in the city. Would definitely recommend it! read more

We liked this place. Went after seeing a kids show and enjoyed lunch here yesterday with toddlers and the hubs. Love a restaurant in the city that actually has high chairs and a changing table in the bathroom! Extra points for that! Food wise we had to go mild with the soon to be 3 year olds needing to try everything we ordered, but we enjoyed the two kinds of samosa we got, the lamb paratha wrap with fries and the paneer, rice and mango lassi which we had to fight back the kiddos from drinking it all. There was a bit of a musty odor/aroma when we first arrived which was off putting but the food, lovely waitress and general atmosphere made up for that. read more

Absolutely phenomenal and authentic Indian cuisine in Lincoln Park. Tandoor offers the classics and even fusion but does not miss with authentic and bold flavor. I visited here on a calm Sunday! I made a reservation however, I did see some folks walk right in a get seated. It was newly renovated and offers a modern design that is still cozy and allows you to feel right at home. Tandoor is perfect for a solo dinner, or a larger group as they have long tables for more communal style eating. Whatever you do, don't forget your stretchy pants because you will eat SO good and TOO much here lol. One stand out for me, was Tandoor gives you so much food. Their portion sizes are great for sharing, and you certainly get a bang for your buck! For food, I ordered: Tandoori Chicken Empanadas: The perfect fusion highlighting bold flavor, with shredded chicken, in a fried empanada shell served with a mildly spicy Tikka Masala sauce. Garlic Naan: A MUST chewy, buttery, melty, with that perfect garlic flavor! Boneless Lamb Biryani: Nice flavorful Biryani which is like a rice, with a nice spice and lamb so tender it literally fell apart. The amount of lamb that came mixed in the biryani could have certainly been an an entree on it's own. Lamb Karhai: Applause for the bold flavor, such rich, buttery, and again such tender lamb it literally fell apart. I chose spicy to get that additional push of flavor. The sauce was rich with peppers, onions, in an infused sauce served with rice. I also loved the new, Apple, Mudha Spritz which a mocktail with frozen apples, apple juice, and spritz. Refreshing way to enjoy my meal. The service was amazing and attentive. They all checked in on me multiple times, asking me for feedback, offering to top off my water cup, and also helped me box my many many many leftover. Please RUN to Tandoor. Our friend group likes to have monthly dinners, and we chose this place because of Chicago Restaurant Week. The food was over the top, and there was enough to eat there. I had two additional meals. The service was subpar even for some seven people, and it was restaurant week. Since we were initially a party of 10, they had plated everything for 10. After finishing our water glasses and the two pitchers, we also ended up drinking the three other glasses. We had asked for more water, but it didn't come till the end. Our server was handling all the tables upstairs and our one table downstairs. The atmosphere downstairs was icy, which was strange given that the bathroom downstairs was warm. We kept the bathroom door open to try to warm up the room. The Chai did help warm us up a bit. While the food was terrific, the service and atmosphere were slightly offputting. I want to sit upstairs to see if the service is better. I might opt for takeout and see if the food is as good as when we dined there. read more

a massive pickup order was placed from tandoor char house and the smell in the car on the way home was enough to make me speed - the chicken saag was delectable. the chicken was perfectly cooked and moist and just soaked in that delicious curry. the chicken had its own unique spices while also carrying that deep rich spinach taste. totally a solid protein serving as well. - we ordered a mild chicken saag and then a spicy paneer saag and they were the exact same spice level. I wish it had more of a kick to it. like this was spice-y but not at all spicy, if you know what I mean - the butter chicken was actually decadent. it was probably the most tomato soup like butter chicken curry I have tried, which sounds strange but trust me it was incredible. I could've drank the sauce. ok I did drink the sauce. - the naan was good but the naan prices are ridiculous.... why is it over five dollars for one piece of regular bread? we tried the regular, garlic, and cheese and you couldn't taste the cheese at all SO I recommend the garlic or the plain because I just don't think the others are worth the extra price tag for the same taste. read more

We cater a considerable amount of food into our different offices and people usually enjoy it, without much comment. However when we catered Tandoor Char House for a recent office event, people were raving about how good the food was and quickly went back for seconds and even thirds. After trying this myself, I was equally impressed with the food and imagine that the food is even better when dining directly in the restaurant. Every item I tried was flavorful with good texture, but a few things really stood out for me. The mix grill was absolutely perfect with a great texture and excellent seasoning for me. I found the chicken boti to be charboiled nicely, without the toughness you can get sometimes with chicken breast. The seekh kabob was seasoned excellently and not overbearing. A real standout for me, even after eating some excellent grilled Armenian and Greek items the two days preceding the event. The penne tikka masala is probably one of the best pastas I've ever had in my life. The buttery cream sauce coated the pasta perfectly with an addictive sauce that reminded me of tomato vodka sauce, but with even better flavor. I also really enjoyed the garlic naan as well which had a strong garlic flavor infused throughout the flatbread. The vegetarian samosas were also fried nicely with a great mix of potatoes, peas, and other savory seasonings. Perhaps the best part of this meal was how many of the items were presented in a fairly plain manner, with lots of different chutney and sauce options that guests could use to tune the flavors to particular spiciness and flavor preferences. Overall, excellent cuisine that was great in both textures and flavors even when catered. I can't wait to dine inside the restaurant some day and try even more amazing food. read more

The mango lassi is the perfect drink to go with the spice and it's delicious. The food and service were exceptional! My partner and I ordered the seasonal tasting menu that consisted of one appetizer, 3 options for the second course (if I recall), and 4 of the final course. Each meal was nicely seasoned and very appetizing. I also ordered the tamarind chicken wings for an appetizer. For sure there's a lot of Indian restaurants around here. It seems there's a few on this particular stretch of Halsted in Lakeview. Tandoor Chef has a few locations around town. Has great food except for it being kind of expensive. You get pretty good quality though it seems. As of the last time here, they were only doing orders for carryout. It changed our plans a bit, but we made it work as best as possible. The good thing was there were other places we could take the food into and sit. Got a few things that were the cheapest. Meaning these still were pretty expensive unfortunately. It's $8 for the Kachumber Salad, which is kind of like a basic salad pretty much. Was topped with onions and tomatoes, and came with a side of spicy pickled vegetables. It's also $8 for the Vegetarian Samosas. These were pretty big ones thankfully. Good stuff for those willing to pay for it. It's pretty expensive but it's mostly full of flavor though. The menu has a few things great for vegans and vegetarians. read more
