Now it's hard to take a good photos of an Gianna's italian beef sandwich bit the flavours are just amazing!! I had it dipped in gravy with fries on the side and was one of the best sandwiches in Cedar Rapids, I had yet. Service was quick!!!!

Been walking, biking and driving past Gianna's for a while waiting for the day it would open. And this evening before heading to the Paramount stopped in for a bite to eat. Everybody in our party was very pleased with their Italian Beef sandwiches. I had mine dipped, and boy the napkins came in very handy. Two others in our party opted to have the dipping juice in a cup, which was a good idea. The beef was tender and delicious, and the combo that I had with the sausage was excellent. The giardiniera was awesome. The restaurant is well lit, bright and clean. The staff was helpful and professional. The prices are very, very reasonable. All in all it's a fine addition in downtown Cedar Rapids for lunch or dinner, and they are open late on Saturday night.

Such a cute addition to downtown CR! I've been wanting to try Gianna's for a while now and finally went! My fiancé and I went today, a Tuesday afternoon, about 12:45. Best part: no line and super fast, friendly service. Since it was our first time the guy taking our order was very helpful and patient - much appreciated. Fiancé got the classic Italian beef sandwich and enjoyed it. I got the Vienna beef hot dog - so good. I got it Chicago style but without relish or celery salt. It was definitely messy and I went through my fair share of napkins, but so worth it. Delish. We also shared a side of pasta salad and it was also very good. The location is super convenient (and I lucked out with street parking during construction season), and vibe of restaurant is laid back but trendy with window seating (we sat there and people watched - nothing better), booths, and large table seating. So happy to have more local food options here instead of all the chain restaurants we already have!

Gianna, you have got it going on girl. Your location is stellar, aesthetic and vibe is sexy as hell. And with a small but diverse menu, you're not trying to do too much-- just do a few things well. I came in for lunch on a weekday around noon. There was a line, but service was fast and kind. Of course I went with your namesake. I inhaled it. The best darn Italian Beef sandwich I've had in the area, hands down. The shoestring fries were fresh cut and piping hot. My partner ate the combo with no complaints and kiddos devoured their hot dogs. We were all clean plate club members. I love that you have lighter options-- like soup or salad. As well as a veggie panini for non meat eating folks. Portions are decent. Pricing seemed on point, but I'd love to see a value meal or combo-- including a main, side and drink in the future. Gianna, you were a missing must-have in downtown CR's lunch scene. I'll be seeing you sooner than later!

What an outstanding addition to Cedar Rapids! Having a long time love affair with Portillo's I was excited to see Gianna's take shape though it opened after I moved out of state. I was in town yesterday and finally got to enjoy this stellar Italian Beef and Chicago Dog. Worth the wait! If you're a fan of these Chicago staples then you're in luck!

Updated review - tried Gianna's as takeout again. I had the chicken sandwich. D my husband the Keoni dog. His dog was loaded and soooo good. My chicken was good, nothing to rave about - chicken was dry and I did not taste the "oil and vinegar" that was to be on the Sammie. We loved the pasta salad and I ordered us the family size - we will have this delicious pasta for days!!! Sooo good. I will say I was disappointed to see workers not wearing masks - we are in the middle of COVID with many cases in this area and a mask mandate in place in Cedar Rapids. I wear my mask when ordering and in the store, I would appreciate if the workers making my food also wore masks. Please take this into consideration :)

We drove past this place a few times while it was going up, then all of a sudden they were open and it was all Matt could talk about. Talked our buddy into checking it out with us the other night and consensus was "alright". We got 3 Italian beef sandwiches and an order of fries. On the one hand, we all felt that the portions were small. One sandwich wasn't enough and they offer little in the way of sides. We got a small shoestring fry and they were seriously undercooked. That being said, the boys really liked the beef. Personally, I'd rank it above Buona beef, but below Portillo's and the brand I get at Walmart. The service, however, was great. The counter staff was super friendly and enthusiastic. We'd probably come back for the beef, but I'm also really interested to try the Italian sausage and the hot dog. (Can someone also report back on that pasta salad side?? I'm curious.)

This is a wonderful callback to visits in Chicago. The Italian Beef/Dipped/hot and sweet peppers. The Chicago dog is as close to Wrigley as I've gotten in this area. I've now visited three times. The quality has been pretty consistent. One of those visits, they topped the Italian beef with more of the hot peppers than the other times. If you don't like it hot, be cautious with ordering those. Overall, it's a great atmosphere with food to match.

Man, I am not a fan of an Italian beef!!!! But.....Gianna must of played with these cows or something ,cause I. Was in love with how good everything was. Not quiet Chicago Italian beef, but they don't have to be! Gianna's does a great job meeting the needs of their Iowa customers! Along with their beef sandwiches, they also offer hotdog, sausage, and chicken selections with a variety of topping and side choices. I really enjoy their classic Italian beef with hot giardiniera. If you like it on the wet side, go all in and get it soaked. The dipped is never quite enough for my tastes. I also really enjoy their homemade pasta salad side dish! While the food is good, the environment at Gianna's is really what makes it unique. It is a modern quick service style cafe which is perfect for the downtown area! Dine in or get it to go! Born and raised in the Chicago burbs and moved to Iowa for school and never left, so I know a good beef. And this is just that a, good beef. I get it just as I would back home, A beef dipped with hot and sweet peppers. They use Marconi giard which is what most beef places use. Whenever I'm feeling a little home sick I order a beef and am never disappointed. Consistent and authentic is the best way to do scribe the food. read more

Man. I love this sandwich. Not sure why this isn't more popular in NY. I eat one of these and then all I want to eat is more of these. The bread is great. Which is obstacle #1 with all sandwiches. And they have a dope cheese sauce in case you wanna turn your Chicago Italian Beef into a Philly Cheesesteak. Honestly, this could easily be 5 stars. BUT, seats aren't comfortable, fries took a while & I wanna leave room to say some other place gets 5 stars. Can't just throw out 5 star reviews all over the place. But I do wanna make sure you guys know this place could be 5 stars but I'm being real nitpicky. read more

The Good... Food: The food is very good. Pretty much everything. The beef, hot dogs, pasta salad, soup, all of it. Service: Usually pretty good, sometimes slow. If there's a line, forget it. The Bad... Atmosphere: Way too loud. Hard surfaces reflect and magnify all sounds. Basically intolerable. I either get it to go or I don't go at all. Don't nickle-and-dime me!!! 25c for a very small bag of oyster crackers for my soup. 25c for au jus on the side (may be new, or I never noticed before). The au jus I can kind of see, but the quarter for the crackers was beyond petty. Seriously, don't nick-and-dime me. This alone was my reason to deduct a star. Sorry, it made me feel taken advantage of. read more

Legitimately the best steak sandwich in Cedar Rapids. Once visit here and you will find yourself craving a return. Italian Beef hot and dipped is a winner, but you won't regret any choice you make here. The Combo is totally worth it. The atmosphere reminded me of getting Italian Beef in downtown Chicago. The location, in the heart of downtown Cedar Rapids, also helps provide the big city feel. The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone seeking a taste of Chicago in Eastern Iowa. read more

Enjoyed my lunch experience! I had the Italian sausage "dipped" and it came as requested with good speed after I was finally able to order. I really enjoyed the vibe of this place! The atmosphere is warm. This is a great place to meet friends or coworkers for lunch! The only reason I gave four stars and not five is that their ordering line moved quite slow. read more

I've had my fair share of really good Italian Beef Combo sandwiches in Chicago at the infamous Portillo's. I hit that place every time I travel there. Well, the good news is, I don't need to wait to go to Chicago anymore to experience absolutely delicious sandwiches done right. Gianna's nails the Italian Beef Combo (get it dipped), the hot giardiniera is great, and the fries with cheese sauce are perfect. I truly hope Gianna's continues to please all of Cedar Rapids, because I never want this place to not exist! read more

Im a huge fan of Italian Beef, so when I saw this new place opened downtown I had try for myself. First the restaurant is very modern, welcoming, and a place you can just sit and enjoy lunch or dinner. I decided I would order an Italian Beef with a small fry. After eating the first one I wish I would of ordered two, that's how good the sandwich was. Many places under season the beef not at Giannas, they had the perfect blend of seasoning with just the right amount. To make things even better you can get it topped with cheddar cheese, this is the way to get it. I can't wait to go back and get two sandwiches this time. I hope they keep up the good work. read more

I was in town picking some things at Nelson's Meat a Market and I searched up Italian Beef as good ones are hard to find in Iowa. This place was close so I gave it a shot. Glad I did. Italian Beef was pretty much on point as were the hot giardiniera peppers. And although I'm not a picky eater, I do have a higher bar for pizza and Italian Beef sangwiches. Gianna's did not disappoint. The place could do with better napkins :) read more

The atmosphere is spacious yet inviting still. The piping in of '60's and '70's hit makes all the more fun, in my opinion. The flavors are quite bold, putting hot abd sweet peppers on at least two of their sandwiches they have on menu, one of which I ate and I was afraid I'd relive that fateful 2012 day when I instantly felt the burn of the jalepeño in that HyVee pseudocalzone, where I felt I couldn't breathe, it felt like I drank liquid red hot flavoring. It was that bad, but I only came close this time. The rest of the meal, the sandwich itself as well as the soda, fries and brownie cupcake, were all good regardless. I think next time though, I'm tempted to try the grilled chicken on croissant with provolone, but no lettuce, tomato, red onion, oil or vinegar. I might request bacon and mayo if permitted. I was thinking about it while I was eating. But overall, I had a great experience. read more

Great Food... but Dumb ownership. Came from 30 miles away multiple times just to have them be closed when their site says open. Can't order online and no one never answers the phone. Whoever owns this business has to be an idiot to think your business will thrive when you just open when you feel like it with no set schedule. Lost a customer today nice job and I will tell everyone I know to never come to this lazy ran establishment. read more

First time in and it was damn good. Grab extra napkins and be prepared to get a little messy. Don't be shy. Roll your sleeves up and do a face plant in these baby's. Seasoned well, not too salty like many Italian sammy shops can be to make up for flavor. Pasta salad is fresh too. We will be back. read more

Gianna's is a life inspired restaurant who's name comes from the late owners daughter, Gianna Hadjis who passed away at 4 years old to a tragic accident. In hopes to honor her name and bring a niche market to the Cedar Rapids metropolitan area Gianna’s has done all the leg work so that you can enjoy some of the big city classics in your own back yard!

Meet the Business Owner: Adam H.

Cedar Rapids native, Adam Hadjis traveld the world and landed back home to carry on a legacy that started over 40 years ago! The Hadjis family founded the hometown staple "The Vernon Inn" in 1976. It shaped the community and the culture of food in more ways than one. While living in Chicago, Adam fell in love with the city's diverse nature in many things but most of all the FOOD! Having moved back to Iowa for what should have been a short time, his daughter Gianna Hadjis died tragically leaving the family grief stricken and no need to move back to Chicago. In hopes to honor his daughter and have the legacy live on, Adam decided to open a restaurant named after his late daughter (Gianna) and include their favorite foods in which they often shared while dining out in the city. Adam hopes to become anything like what the Vernon Inn was to the people of Cedar Rapids for years to come!

The garlic knots were freshly baked and heavenly. They do an olive oil dip with it and we usually love this at comparable restaurants but their olive oil was on the fruity/floral side for me. My husband liked it, but for me I prefer a more buttery and garlic flavor to my olive oils, especially when meant for bread. The calamari wasn't good. The issue (which is easily fixable) is that the pieces were HUGE! We've never seen calamari rings that big! Because of that, I'm assuming they got overcooked to ensure they got up to temp as these were so so rubbery and tough. I don't know if this size is typical for them if there was an ordering issue, but these would be really good if they were smaller so it could be a faster fry and less likely to get overcooked. The spaghetti was okay, but the noodles were watery, making the sauce on top thin, this would've been better if the sauce and noodles were tossed into a pan to thicken the sauce and coat the noodles. My son has the chicken strip meal (it came with fries) and he was happy with it! Overall, we had a positive experience and the service itself will be enough for us to come back and try more on the menu!

They also offer daily drink special themes. The menu is eclectic, with a mix of Cajun, Italian, and American fare. I went with the Cacio e Pepe with Elephant Ear (Orcchiette) pasta, and added shrimp along with a half wedge salad as a premium side. The pasta itself was delicious--perfectly cooked with a rich, peppery flavor. However, I wish the server had mentioned that the shrimp was Cajun-seasoned. While great on its own, it slightly overpowered the pasta. The wedge salad was a bit of a letdown--the lettuce was watery, which diluted the overall flavor. The dish also came with garlic bread, which was yummy. Service was outstanding--attentive, friendly, and efficient. Unfortunately, it was hard to get a real read on the restaurant's vibe because it was pretty empty on a Wednesday night.

Once I learned it's namesake (Gianna) was the owner's four year old who passed away, I can't help but support this local biz as much as I can. Multiple items on the menu were her favorites.
