Always enjoy NewPi! Don't forget their sandwiches. I used to get papaguyo hot sandwich often in Iowa City when I lived there. I ordered it from the CR location recently and it was pretty tasty. The bread is amazing its made in north liberty at their bakery hub. I would suggest looking at their bread schedules and buying another loaf for the freezer. Things to get here. Quiches, bread , chocolate cake, pastries, & Vitamins. Why this store? Because we needed a organic store in town with great customer service. This place is just wonderful! If you are looking for something local, organic, sugar free, low carb, grass fed, free range or preservative free, they probably have it at New Pi! Honestly, I come here specifically for my Vital Farms eggs but always end up walking around for an hour looking at everything. They have a little bit of everything here! I follow a keto lifestyle and I can find Prymal Kitchen sauces and lily's chocolate chips and peanut butter cups at this store. The prices are really not any higher than you might expect from specialty items and I truly do believe that you get exactly what you pay for. On top of all this goodness, the staff are just wonderful. If you have a question, they have an answer and will help you with anything! Last time I visited, I needed to know the nutrition facts for the on tap kombucha that they were serving. I asked a young lady and she helped me without hesitation. I want to buy everything here. I think that basically sums it up. In all seriousness, this is a great place to invest in both the community and the future. Buying local, organic, and healthy options is made simple, and everyone was ready to help answer any questions you may have. You might pay a little bit more but then the Guatemalan farmers growing your coffee might be able to make a living, too. The baked goods and the soup/salad options looked amazing, and I hope to stop in for lunch or a vegan chocolate cupcake in the future. A nice specialty grocery store. Actually the only one of its kind in cedar rapids. While not as large as the ones on Coralville or Iowa City, it still has a nice selection of goods. The meat counter holds some nice quality goods. The staff is helpful and friendly and they do carry pre-prepared foods if you want to eat there or take home. read more

So glad they opened a NewPi in CR! We don't get to IC as much anymore and so it's awesome to support them when we visit family. My brother in law is one of their bread bakers too which is fun! An Iowa City staple in a new location! It's large, clean and full of food for every diet. They also have a decent liquor selection too -- not just beer and wine. read more

Tasty fresh lunch spot, reminiscent of Central Market and Whole Foods. I've had the reuben, which is literally the best I've ever had - tons of meat (no fatty spots), tons of kraut, and tasty dressing. The sandwiches are way expensive ($8!), but also huge. I can only eat half. The salad bar is awesome, lots of delicious and healthy things to load up your lettuce. read more

I used to love this place, but recently I haven't had the best experience. The meat has been rotten multiple times now, just today, my mom and I were walking past the meat section and the smell was so rancid both of us almost hurled on the spot. I've also had issues with some of the vegetables smelling fishy. This makes me sad because I've been coming to this place for years now and the meat and vegetables were always top notch. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE! I am routinely that person that comes in 10 minutes before close (I can hear the eye-rolls! I make sure I'm out by close!) Due in part that I live out in the country and work second shift, this place is right on my way to the interstate...I have always been greeted with an enthusiastic smile and have never been treated unkindly due to my last minute visits! The staff is one of the reasons I love this place! They have a weekly ad that changes every other Wednesday....I'm talking several dollars off products regularly! They sell Frontier Coop products that are sourced from Norway, IA...they champion Fair Trade products...once you buy organic herbs in bulk for a fraction of what you used to pay, even for non-organic, you realize you were paying for the packaging! I love the layout, I love the "smaller store" feel, even though I feel it is more spacious than the Coralville store..... I leave a happier person! read more

New Pi in CR is where it's at! A beautiful big building that puts other Co-Ops I have been too around the world to shame! Spacious isles, all the fun healthy stuff you love and a good/fair price and a nice small hot bar, and salad bar! We were grabbing a quick lunch here! I got the Hot and Sour Vegan soup.. It was delicious and spicy, I love that they have bread to go with the soup, and I dug that the soup had a hefty amount of tofu in it! I loved the seating area as well, a very nice open space to eat lunch! The store was super clean as well! My son needed a diaper change and Im stoked they had a family restroom I could go in there and take care of business! It was super clean too! The staff was very smiley and nice and I look forward to a return visit! read more

I used to be a big advocate for New Pioneer... but have discontinued shopping there for a couple of reasons. #1 Their prices are way too high. They always have been and still are. The meat I've gotten in the past is delicious but overly expensive. You can find many lower priced, organic options in the healthy section of other area stores. My favorite is Lucky's in Iowa City. #2 They do not honor second amendment rights. If that is important to a person - as it is to me - this might not be the place for you. There is a sign that prominently announces "no firearms except for law enforcement". To each his own. I'm just saying... With the crime in Cedar Rapids, a law abiding citizen with a permit should be allowed to conceal carry. Why should I have to give up my rights to shop there? #3 I've also encountered slow, rude service at times. I've been treated much better at the New-Pi in Iowa City and Coralville. Generally good selection of popular organic brands. A couple strange omissions, however, like they carry many of the Fig Newman special flavors, but not the core just-fig version of them. As a Whole Foods fan, they are like a miniature version of that. read more

The best grocery in the area (and likely far beyond). I would consider myself a good home chef and would estimate that 80% of the products I use come from NewPi, the others coming from a local CSA, my own garden, the internet (for specialty items) and commercial grocery stores. Like any store there have been experiences through the years that weren't ideal, maybe the quality of an individual pastry, sandwich, meat or packaged product wasn't as good as I'd like or maybe a staff member wasn't as helpful as another but with the average quality and selection being far beyond any other store and with an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff these few things are minuscule in comparison. Overall I'd give the staff at the CR location 5+ stars, the selection of quality products 5 stars and the overall cleanliness and layout of the store 5 stars. read more

Interesting food selections but high food prices. Sadly, unlike the Coralville store, they are not senior and disabled friendly. They do not have a mobility cart although the store is much larger than Coralville and could easily accommodate one. New Pi Co-op makes a welcomed return to Cedar Rapids with a very good selection of high quality foods. Unlike New Pi in Iowa City or other co-ops I have shopped in, there are no membership requirement nor non-member tariffs. However if you are a member you get frequent member discounts. There is good selection of quality wines, cheeses and baked goods as well as the usual organic choices. There is more shopping competition in C.R. now with the new Fresh Market, special sections at local HY-Vee's and an increasing number of independent sellers and ethnic and farmer's markets. I hope that there is enough demand for ALL of these businesses to succeed. New Pi is now one of my weekly shopping stops. read more

This place can definitely be a trap. Especially when they have the same brands at hyvee and target for less that are still organic. Unless you are looking for a specific product or options of homeopathic supplements, this place is a huge rip off. Fresh market has better pricing and more stuff that is actually edible and consumable. I wish they had a decent take home salad bar. read more

New Pi Co-Op vs. Hy-Vee (Chicago people: Whole Foods vs. Dominick's/The Jewel) The perception is that the New Pi is pricier than Hy-Vee. This is true to a certain extent and depends on the item you buy and the quality you seek. 1. Eggs: The price of the eggs I buy (cage free) is less at New Pi than Hy-Vee. 2. Honeycrisp Apples: Hy-Vee's tasted like gasoline last year. Not the case at New Pi. 3 Ready-to-eat lettuce: Hy-Vee purchased is usually gooey the minute you bring it home. This is not the case at New Pi. Plus, the price is the same. 4. Onions: The onions at Hy-Vee started tasting like refrigeration. This is the same problem I've run into with Trader Joe's eggs and produce. 5. Organic spaghetti sauce: $1.99-$2.99 at New Pi. The same as - if not less than - Prego/Ragu at Hy-Vee. 6. Spaghetti Noodles: $1.99/package at New Pi. Hy-Vee usually has deals for $1.00. However, I am not going to split my shopping trip for a dollar. Granted, Hy-Vee has a little more variety from GMO to organic. I love its values of employee owned and great benefits. Its cheese section is better. However, if I am buying a GMO product or pesticide product, could the taste not be refrigeration or gasoline? If I do choose those products, could they make it worth my while to bear through it and be significantly less pricey? No; Hy-Vee has not chosen this path. So, I will choose to spend the same or $1-$2 more at New Pi - depending on the item - so I don't have to deal with the frustration of feeling like I lost money. read more

What a great addition to the Cedar Rapids food scene! New Pi is grocery store open to everyone that focuses on local, sustainable, organic produce, dairy, meats and dry goods. I especially like the deli counter (try the vegan Cajun tofuwhich!), bakery and wine & beer selection. There's also a soup and salad bar for a quick and healthy snack or meal. On December 16, 2015 I contacted New Pi for items to make organic spaghetti sauce and pizza sauce as a Christmas gift. I wanted to pick them up the next day. On December 17 I was able to pick up all the items I had ordered. They were wonderful. They even carried them to my car since they were quite heavy. I LOVE this place! The groceries are unique and healthy. The hot food bar is AMAZING!!!

First time visiting this store today and after being in there for maybe 20 minutes (half of that time standing in the checkout line for a tea while the cashier yammered on with her "favorite customer") I've decided I personally will never visit this store again. First of all their prices are outrageous for stuff you can get at other stores half that. Their Customer Service is absolutely atrocious and their employees are down right rude. I've worked in retail for about 3 years and worked other jobs that required customer service and if these people had been my co-workers I would have done everything to ensure the boss had seen how usless they really are. Anyone else who has worked in retail ever utter the phrase "yeah, we aren't just trying to take your money" outloud?? Umm hello!? As for the woman cashier that wanted to make a rude remark after I left my tea on the belt of her register, count your blessings I didn't hear what you said. You don't treat customers like that and I was MORE then patient. Anyone who has someone stand SECOND IN LINE for 10 minutes when the person ahead of them is buying a salad and soup needs to find a different job. read more
