The burgers, fries, and shakes are all amazing. I could absolutely live off a "Giant Burger" at least once a week. The staff is a bit hit or miss, but over the last 6 months or so, I've noticed it getting better. Took the kids for a burger, so I didn't mind the wait so much. The food was fantastic, but the wait staff does leave you wanting.. Something as simple as a drink refill, sitting there you could hear other customers shaking the ice in their empty glasses as I was thinking about a refill. They bring your drink right away but by the time you get your food it's empty.. And she never once checked to see how we were doing or if we needed anything else.. I ate here for the first time with 5 other friends. Not only did we wait for 1 hour and 20 min. for breakfast food, when we got each of our items over 20 min apart, the hash browns were cold. I ordered 4 slices of french toast for $8 and got 4 half slices of french toast and burnt bacon. My friends omelet had cheese slices laid on top of the cooked eggs and was not melted. Each of us in our party were served separtely and at least 20 min apart. Our drinks were not refilled till we were leaving, and to get coffee refilled we had to ask. Was surprised that the food took 40 minutes to get out only to realize they must have cooked the burgers and bacon for the entire time we were waiting. Shame because what appeared to be high quality beef and bacon were both beyond redemtion. Would have complained but only saw each waitress 1 time. I went in for an almond joy milk shake and the almonds in it were rancid. Clearly they had been stored improperly or had been ancient. I decided it was a fluke so I returned a few days later and ordered a Butterfinger milkshake. I'm not entirely certain what was wrong with it besides the fact that the milk they used must of been expired because it was also rancid tasting. The food here may be fantastic -- I wouldn't know, because when we came in last Saturday, we sat for 25 minutes before anyone showed up to take our order. We waited for another 45 minutes after that and still no food or any contact whatsoever from waitstaff -- none of whom would meet our eyes, never mind tell us what was up with the long wait -- at which point we stood up and left. Been going up here for a couple years now and it's really gone down hill. The only good thing on the whole menu is the burgers that come with a side of grease (fries). My mom once ordered a side of Jojo's that were burnt so bad that they crumbled to dust, when we told the waitress she just shrugged and said that's how they were suppose to be. Today was the final straw though when we went up there and sat for 20 minutes with no service, and yes, the waitress did see us. Looked at us twice without even bringing over water. OK, gotta be fair and explain my experience from the begninning. Starting at 9:30, 30 minutes before closing. Skip to 4 for the food review. 1) Walked in, nice little burger joint, fresh ice cream, and Keno to boot! I'm pretty excited, looked at pictures of their food online and was impressed. 2) Looked over the menu. It is far too big, but still American food for the most part and I'm liking it. Maybe cut out some ingredients/menu items that aren't necessary; keep the avocado but cut the amount of onions; and cut the lettuce altogether for some burgers, it gets a little soggy over time. 3) Order took a while, like 30 minutes, and in the meantime police showed up and questioned us about another patron who was evidently wanted. I later overheard that the order was misdone at first, which explains the extra wait...no foul. Anyway, the police/wanted suspect left pretty quickly, and surprisingly things got busy just before closing. I did notice the staff being extra friendly and helpful to every customer, which goes a long way in my book. 4) Our food came and we left to eat. My gf's burger was extremely fresh tasting, jalapenos tasted like they just came out of the garden. The initial taste is simply money, and then the heat comes on; the perfect jalapeno burger IMO. My burger was also very tasty, but an overkill of sauted onions made it slightly less pleasant. Still, for the price you can't go wrong and the beef quality was far above your average fast food joint. Beef quality scores major points with me, I can always pick off ingredients I don't mind; I don't mind getting dirty. 5) Fries need work. Hotter frying with maybe a different oil? The garlic is nice and fresh but the fries in both baskets were oily. Shame to ruin what seemed to be a nice looking spud. I dealt, though, the flavor was still good. Hopefully they see this and do a little change, and I will gladly try again. 6) Overall I enjoyed my experience. Better than your typical burger joint; better selection, better service, and better food. Again, just my opinion. I'm shocked that food network didn't put them on Restaurant Impossible the first time they dropped in. The food wasn't terrible but it certainly felt questionable when we sat at these booths littered with napkins and crumbs and as I scanned the rest of the room I saw grim, trash, and dust everywhere. It is absolutely disgusting. To add insult to injury, our waitress didn't greet us when we arrived. We hadn't eaten there before so we just stood there not knowing if we should seat ourselves or wait for her. She was impatient and short with us the whole time. Despite all this, we ordered and ate there. Our meal was okay, nothing more than average but I felt like we were risking food poisoning with the way they kept their restaurant. To close, we ordered their umpqua ice cream shakes to go and that is where the disappointment really set in. My shake was soupy and inedible before I was halfway through. If you're ever in Springfield wanting a good burger, DON'T go to Giant Burger. There were 3 tables filled so not really busy and we came in and we're told to sit anywhere with menu's. We picked a booth and then the wait began. They took orders at the table across from us, no we'll be right back or anything. Then 5 minutes later a new group of more than 6 people came in and sat down and before all were even sat down they took orders and started making their drinks. Still no acknowledgement of our existence. Next they bring the food to the table across from us and still nothing. Now another person joins the party that came in after us and they start taking their order at which time we get up and say we're going somewhere else where they actually believe in service, at which point they come and say I was just getting ready to come take your orders. I said nope. She apologized and said maybe they missed us coming in....... really I don't think anyone missed me coming in, I'm not small and easy to miss especially when they looked directly at us and told us to sit anywhere with menu's. We were having lunch there and is very rude kids there today were talking about their mother who was in the back gambling and a marine went up to them and told them that they were very rude and they needed to stop their behavior and he started to walk out the door and the little girl that was one of the group of kids walked out there and I couldn't hear what she had said to him that I know that it was very disrespectful. One from the shop should have stopped her and told them the kids to leave they didn't need to be there they were not eating they were not drinking they were sitting at a booth and they were playing on Facebook throwing up noises and telling each other that their mom was like a blowfish other rude remarks about her. And as for the service we only got waited on wants I had to walk up and return burger that had not been cooked thoroughly Burger was made but the fries that was with the burgers did not come back with the burger that was remade. And even when the burger was premade it wasn't correct either it was still kind of raw. I'm sure that for the amount given for a burger and soda there would be better service and better attention towards their customers. And may be a way better crowd of people in the place. I will say that the shake was very good but the service was very bad they have lost a customer for the rest of my life. I have been going to Giant Burger for over 8 years and it seems to me every year it gets worse. The waitress was ok but the food was BAD. The onion rings were so greasy that the oil just poured out of them and they have watered down the ranch so much that 1/2 cream is thicker than what they serve as ranch dressing. I had the worst experience! Girlfriend and I went in there for lunch my girlfriend got a half a pound burger and I got one fourth burger and I bit into mine and it started blooding I opened up the rapper and looked at the wrapper and it was had blood all over it. She never showed up so my girlfriend had to go up and tell her about the burger oh my girlfriend gave the waitress my burger and most of my fries and we waited for them to make me anywhere there and when it came back she didn't give me my fries or anything back she just gave me the burger I didn't even eat half of my fries! And if I'm paying $2.49 I think I should get at least one refill she didn't check on us once! And there were a group of teenagers there about five of them and they were so rude they're on their phones on Facebook and they were sitting there making throw up noises! And the waitress didn't say anything to them or anything finally a male customer that was leaving told them they were the rudest kids he is ever met and if they were his kids he would put them in military school, that just made them even router. I dont understand how the owner would let him slip thru their fingers. That cook put this restaurant on the map. My family and I used to come here once a week. The place was always filthy, fries disgusting, but the burgers were ohh so good. One occasion my husband, and 2 of our children went. Service sucked as usual. Burgers great as usual. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich to go for our oldest child. The cook sent out a grilled cheese! When we did get our burgers, I couldn't even take a bite out of mine without (attempting) to cut it in half. The bottom bun was so soggy, it fell totally apart.
