I came here to pick-up a sandwich for lunch today, and it was my first time in this store. The first thing that annoyed me was that the onky entrance was located at the far end, and as far away from the parking lot as possible. Then the Deli was situated way at the back of the store on the right side, a littlr far away. The sandwiches and pre-made salads werr not that noticeable either. They had very limmited stock when it came to the ready made sandwiches. I only saw Italian and roast beef sandwiches which didn't seem appealing. I did end-up getting the chickrn caesar wrap combo which included chips and a soda drink. I thinkbthe accesibility of things with this store was not the beat. read more

I have shopped at this Giant for years and it has definitely gone downhill! It is not difficult to find expired food and drinks in every area of the store. The management is quite rude and appear visibly annoyed when they are asked a question! The last time I was there I overheard two main managers talking and laughing right by the produce in the main aisle about how employees are leaving left and right because of their not liking the schedules that they are giving them. The turnover rate of employees is phenomenal possibly due to the way they are treated as I have witnessed numerous very rude interactions from managers to cashiers. The only strength of this store are the cashiers who are friendly, helpful, and always professional!! I'd strongly advise shopping elsewhere! read more

This store is the worst. I have pulled so much expired food off the shelves. I worked in a grocery store for years. I know what it means to rotate the stock. Everything on every shelf is good and the prices are not bad. I dig how one aisle advertises Spanish, Latin and Caribbean food, and British food. Not very well categorized and classified, a slight drawback there. But after a whole week of shopping one should know where to find anything. I was happy to see an Asian supermarket when I went on vacation in the Washington DC area! One of our very good friends like to shop here because of the selections. Very clean and organized, the prices are okay, I guess. Downside that I noticed that they don't really carry "western" ingredients so much. Like asparagus, for instance. Fantastic bagels baked specially for us! Had a wonderful experience ordering two dozen bagels for a birthday brunch this past weekend from the Flower Hill Giant bakery. When I called to place the order the day before, the woman I spoke with was helpful and polite; selection was extensive (everyone was able to order their favorites) and the bagels were not only freshly baked the morning of our brunch but absolutely delicious! Best of all, prices were much lower than I remember at the local bagel shop. This turned out to be a unexpectedly nice enhancement to our birthday brunch. We'll do this again! read more

If I wrote this review two months ago, I would have given this Giant 1 star. However, after boycotting this place for 2 months, I needed to grab a couple of steaks for dinner at a friend's house, and was so impressed by the renovations that I'm going to give this Giant 3 stars . Prior to the renovation, this Giant was pathetic. It really was. The produce was always limp and sad. I once picked up a cucumber and my thumb went right through it. EW! The selection of meats were pitiful, and it's always a bad sign when you go into the dairy aisle, and find cheeses with an expiration date of tomorrow. I've found moldy bread, stale cakes, and the seafood selection was so poor that I would serve guests canned tuna before I would buy anything from the seafood case. Which is terribly unfortunate, as this Giant is right across the street from my house. However, upon running in for a few steaks (only due poor planning), I was greeted by a display of fresh cut flowers. Although I was running late, I took a few minutes to stroll through the store as I was impressed with the overhaul. The produce aisle improved dramatically; I was able to find jicama and more then one type of tomatoes! Although I couldn't find any brussel sprouts (yes, I love them), fresh bean sprouts, nor leeks, there was a semi-decent section of organic and locally-raised produce. By the deli section, there was a beautiful island of gourmet cheeses - all of which had an expiration date that was well into the future! And the butcher counter was completely revamped, so that getting a good cut of steak was actually possible. So with all these vast improvements, why only 3 stars? Because of two major reasons. The first is that I was still put off by the seafood case. I could smell the fishiness while I was standing in front of the chicken section, and the cuts of fish that were on display looked dried out and old. Although there was a better selection, all of the choices were farm-raised and it just didn't look fresh. The second and more important reason, is that although the store had been completely renovated, the staff were still the same lackadaisical cranky cashiers. My husband and I jumped into the first open lane, and plopped down our steaks, broccoli and potatoes. The cashier didn't even grunt out a greeting nor did she spare us a glace. She was sloppily tossing our food to the bagging area (yes this seems silly but it made me very glad I wasn't getting any tomatoes or eggs!). Finally, as we were leaving, my husband (the perpetual nice guy and friend to all) says "thank you and have a nice day"...and the cashier didn't even acknowledge him. Now, I realize that these workers are probably paid minimum wage, and more then likely hate their jobs. However, when a customer goes out of their way to be nice, it should be acknowledged with a "thanks" or at least a smile. I've worked crappy retail jobs before, and no matter how bad my day, or how bad my hangover was, if a customer was nice, they would at least get a "thanks" back. It's just basic customer service that costs nothing and it rewards customers for not being @$$holes, which will only make the lives of retail-slaves better. It's like the circle of life or whatever. So while I was impressed by the renovations, I can not give this place more then 3 stars. Hopefully, along with new floor plans and new displays will come some training for the employees. I am lifting my boycott of this Giant on a probationary basis. read more

I'm giving this Giant a 4.5 rating because of its pharmacy. I have a disabled adult I'm responsible for. This pharmacy makes my life easier. They take the initiative to contact the person's doctor; they explain the various options; they allow and work with the various nursing aides that help. For groceries, it's not so much that Giant overall is expensive (it is); it's the fact that this particular store sits in a neighborhood where meats such as veal and lamb and filet mignon and fresh fish don't sell well. Giant is a neighborhood store, so they stock what sells in the neighborhood. I shop at the Kentlands location if I need these items. My granddaughter takes karate in the same shopping center, so I find myself picking up the occasional item while she is being taught. read more

I think the reviews of the pharmacy are overblown or made by people with emotional issues. The folks running this pharmacy for the most part fill the orders sent in by doctors just like any other pharmacy and as far as I can see they've always done it just fine. I've used them for ten years and never had any problem and they've been perfectly polite to me. I don't think I need a super friendly cheery type person delivering my meds. All I need is to have it done and they do it just fine. read more

Its my friendly neighborhood grocery. I only get certain things here - juices and dry goods when they are on sale. Otherwise, my grocery bill would also include an eye off my face. It's convenient when you've run out of something and you're having guests over in a half hour. read more

I have been grocery shopping and using the pharmacy at this location for over 10 years now. While no where that sells so many things and offers a one stop shop experience will ever be perfect, I have gotten from this store what I needed. The most recent renovation and expansion of the health food section was also a nice surprise. I have dealt with the same faces at the deli for years and they are always polite and attentive and say hello to my kids when they are with me. The produce section for the most part is fully stocked and it's not a challenge to find things. They have made upgrades to the pharmacy as well to make it more efficient but I think there is still some adjustment going on. read more

This is probably one of the busiest Giant Food grocery stores in the area. I do not shop here often but when I do it reminds me what it is like shopping in a big city environment!! They have made some recent renovation, well not that recent, and the store looks great inside. It seems a little more cluttered than other Giant Foods but it is still well organized. I have not seen the security guard patrolling the entrance and exit of late. Maybe he was updated too with the store renovations. The cashiers and other store personnel are professional and helpful. Maybe I only shop here during their busy time but given the number of shoppers the store gets I think they do a better than average job managing the constant flow of people. read more

This location has gone from worse to worst in the past several years. I used to be a veteran shopper at this store; however, I had to rip myself away from habit and stop going there because of the scant selection of quality food and, of course, horrendous customer service. I remember a decade ago when shoppers would walk in happy to see the familiar and friendly faces of the staff. Fast forward to the present (and has been this way for several years now), there are so many unprofessional and frighteningly rude staff that it's very likely you'll run into one of them than a decent employee. So uncharacteristic of the good people of Gaithersburg. Don't bother complaining to the manager of the store because no action will be taken and, at most, will just write off the complaint in the form of a measly gift card. My wife and I always shopped at Giant in Takoma Park, and now we've moved to Derwood we decided to make this location our main grocery store. Most of the time it has exactly what we need (although once or twice they have not had any bottles of the store band cola zero). The store is laid out well and there is even a small section of British food which I love seeing as I am from England. The parking lot could be a bit larger and the entrance/exit to the shopping area is not exactly driver-friendly but other than that I am very pleased with this place. read more

I only go here because I live down the street. The one thing I absolutely hate about this store is the shopping center lay out. The entrance and exit out of the parking lot it stupid and it gets pretty congested. Over all the products I need are in stock and not expired. I don't remember or recall what this Giant was like pre-renovation but the places is always clean and organized. The staff here are all pretty much just trying to earn a living so I don't expect much out of them unless I really need help. Unfortunately I didn't get the name of the nasty pharmacist I spoke with because I just wanted to get off the phone with her as quick as I could. I could barely get a word in while speaking with her. I've never really had a problem with this giant, I prefer this one over the one closest to my house. But today has really made me reconsider my opinion. The cashiers name was Jurissca (I took a glimpse of her name tag so not sure if this is how it's spelled). She was very rude, after ringing up my first transaction, she asked if she could ring up the guy behind me since he only had two items. I said no, because not only is that rude, and I brought my two small kids to the store with me and wanted to hurry up since they were antsy, but there is a reason there is 5 express/self check out isles. I didn't have much to ring up, maybe about 4 bags so I'm not sure why the cashier thought it was necessary to even ask me. After ringing me up, she continued with the guy behind me while I bagged all of my groceries by myself. She never once asked if I needed help. After the guy behind me was finished his transaction, she continued with the next. I've never had a cashier completely ignore the fact that I WAS STILL BAGGING, all because I wouldn't let her ring up the guy behind me. If the guy got in line behind me, he clearly made that choice to wait. I hope she doesn't last long here. read more
