This is definitely the more preferred Giant versus the one further down Rockville Pike. Their hours are later and the store is cleaner. If you download the app you get major savings (more than your general membership). Pretty much anything that I buy is on sale on the app (unless I specifically need or want something). I like that most of the time they have sales on their fruits and vegetables. They have heavy discounts on their protein as well but checking the expirations are a must because of the short dates on them. Because I usually get so much, I generally go to a cashier to help me bag and ring me out. I went tonight and spent close to $130 but actually saved $40 due to coupons (so spent closer to $90). One of my favorite grocery stores in rockville, other than wegman's. They close my safeway down when wegman's open. Overall this place has a wonderful staff really superb customer service you can't go wrong if you need some groceries this is one of the places to go. FRIED CHICKEN! I love fried chicken and I have had all of it! Quality, value and taste are the criteria I apply! Well...an unlikely winner in all 3 areas happens to be Giant Food! First of all the value you get eight pieces of chicken for like eight bucks and that's just incredible value and then the breading is great. It's not overly greasy and frankly it taste really good and I try to have this chicken as much as my cardiologist and all my healthcare providers tell me no at least once a week because it's that good . With all the new markets coming to town like Wegmans, these guys are contenders and if you're going to judge deli's by their food giant is really a great deal and the chicken is fantastic and I recommend it to everybody and anybody and they can go Toto to with Popeyes And all the other chicken places around. This might've been the cleanest Giant that I've ever visited. Well organized, didn't have a funny smell. I got in and out with no lines. Self checkout was fully stocked with bags and the store had plenty of carts for use out front. I had an awesome shopping experience today. read more

I like this store--it has such a big kosher section that it's like a full kosher market inside a regular gorcery store. There are 2 hot bars on opposite ends of the store with separate offerings, which is unique I think. Both hot bars also have adjacent bake at home ledo's pizza. You can run a lot of errands here without leaving the premises--Burlington, Marshall's, Target, Home Sense, Chase Bank, Old Navy, a very good Thai restaurant, and some counter service eateries. Unfortunately they do not put prices on the deli meat. They have store brand and Boar's Head and you have to ask the price of each meat individually which is time consuming and frustrating and more trouble than it's worth. I don't understand why it is so hard to put price tags per lb on the deli meat. All the salads have prices. I never bought counter service lunch meat from there before so I never noticed it. Also their artisan cheese is crazy expensive. Whole Foods Port Salut is cheaper than Giant. Hopefully that will change soon but they are pricing people out of the market. Check all packages of what you are looking for to see if any have a yellow sticker with the original price and reduced price. They are close to sell by state and are at least 50% off. Out of season and overstock often have these deals also. read more

I won't shop at this store until it gets a new manager, and I advocate that others do the same. Apparently this manager is himself new to the position. I have heard from an unnamed person that he calls at least one of the female employees (or maybe more than one?) "Bubbles." It is unprofessional and inappropriate for a male manager to call female staff a demeaning pet name like "Bubbles." Using non-professional nicknames is a way of exercising power over a staff member, establishes an unwelcome power dynamic, and contributes to a hostile work environment. Especially at the self-checkout counter, where the machines often do something odd. They had everything I wanted, except for the specific type of Fage Yogurt I was looking for. Sure the people are nice here and the store is clean but wow have these prices gone up! I used to love shopping at this Giant because of its variety of food and produce at a reasonable price. You can't touch most of the meat here because the prices have totally gone nuts. Sorry but unless you're getting chicken or maybe some meat on special it isn't at all affordable anymore. Also, even their store brand prices have gotten higher than other store's brands. I guess they don't care because Safeway left our area. And forget ordering delivery. Under the new delivery by 3rd parties (Uber or Instacart) add another $10 to your order - no more free delivery during the week or any kind of discount evidently. It's Walmart for me - at least they still have decent prices for name brand food as well as free trials for delivery. And Walmart had a half off special, as well, for those who need delivery. Most of the problems are with someone picking old overripe produce. Or, because my accounted isn't credited for substitute items I don't want. I really don't know what i haven't shared my little secret yet but I can't keep it to myself no longer. DON'T FORGET CAKE is one of my little secrets I literally can put the in my purse & go. That's have small the jar is but don't let the size fool you it's not just a normal dry cake. This cake is so moist & creamy they come in many different flavors including strawberry short cake, carrot cake, red velvet & cookie dough just to name a few. I purchased the red velvet cake because I didn't see the carrot cake or the strawberry short cake but the red velvet isn't missing nothing it's delicious. A little of a back story on DON'T FORGET CAKE it's the sister company to Mr.Warrer Brown's CAKE LOVE. Cake Love was one of my favorite bakery to go to for my favorite cupcake & that's the strawberry short cake was a must get. Cake Love bakery first opened in Washington dc then it's second location was open the downtown Silver Spring Md area. Warren Brown is a local Washington DC native. That loves to bake so when I learned that Don't for cakes was Warren's cakes. I was extremely excited because it was just a little piece or remembering the times that I spent with my Auntie enjoying something so little has a cupcake & while going to the CAKE LOVE bakery. I went in to buy my shampoo and conditioner which I could not find. I spoke to Andrew who was wonderful who also helped me look. He then saw to the store manager Carrie Daggs and asked her where it was. Carrie was wonderful and found it. The location for this store is very easy to get to and could have been a flagship store for Giant in the area. But a few things work against this store. First is parking - even though there seems to be a lot of parking available, but given how busy this shopping area is, I end up getting parking closer to other stores than Giant! Also, the store has the stale, and sad look of a 90s grocery store - some sprucing up and lots of TLC may help cheer it up :) This tired look translates to the aisles too, save for a few aisles that seems to have got all the love (in the middle of the store). There are plenty of lanes for checking out but less than half are open during the times I have visited this store. Because of these reasons, I only stop by this store if I need something ASAP. read more

This is the closest Giant to our house and before recently we hadn't been utilizing it. I stopped in on a Friday night about 5pm for a random selection of groceries. Parking: pretty awful. This is mostly due to customers either walking randomly or just not knowing how to drive. Considering the size of the parking lot I'm surprised that it's already 3/4 full. Produce: this is probably my favorite portion of the store. Everything was fresh and displayed nicely. There were organic options and you could tell this part of the store has had a decent upgrade. Dairy: well stocked but oddly designed. I'm use to a typical set up, but this Giant is strange. While passing I heard several other customers wondering where the milk was. There is a cheese station, but I didn't see any employees to help. Meat: the amount of vegetarian options were great. You'll find most vegetarian meat in the produce section. The actual meat selection has a good variety. Fresh lobster and a deli counter for the win. I will say the smell by the seafood section is disgustingly overwhelming. Frozen: very small and limited. I had to go to another store to find what I needed. We don't buy a lot of frozen items but it's frustrating that the one item I needed wasn't there. This is a great place to go if you're looking for a speciality item like vegan, gluten free, or kosher. It's a pretty busy store so take a deep breath before entering. read more

This Giant Food seems to have more square footage than others that I normally shop at. There's a pharmacy inside of the store, which is ideal for people. The checkout lines are very quick. We did not have to wait, and this was on a Sunday afternoon, nonetheless. Staff is friendly. The store has everything to meet your needs. I'm a little jaded on grocery stores because I grew up with Wegmans on every street corner, and quite frankly, nothing else compares. Since Montgomery County wouldn't give Weggies zoning rights, and places like Balduccis and Whole Foods threw fits, I do not have the convenience of shopping at my ultimate favorite grocery store on a regular basis. (I'm refraining from using an expletive here). As much as I like certain things about Whole Paycheck, they can be pretty limited. So Giant is my last choice grocery store. Well, 2nd last choice. Bloom is actually last choice, and I'll only go there for 1 or 2 items if I'm too lazy to drive the 2 miles to Giant. But today I have to say that I had a pretty decent experience at Giant. This is considering today at 8am it was like shopping the week of Thanksgiving. Utter chaos. People... its just a little snow. Give it a day and the roads will be clear, and the stores open. Anyhow, I admit to joining in with the crazies, only because I normally grocery shop on Fridays, and hey... its Friday. I hit up the deli, because I love Boars Head deli meat. I was not surprised to find a 10 person wait just to order some bologna. So I grabbed a ticket and continued to shop, unlike the old biddys hanging out just waiting for some other old biddy to try and skip in line ahead of them. The canes were ready to fly. After productively finding most of my other necessities, I doubled back to the deli just in time for them to call "73". It made me wonder if they started at 0 this morning. It was only 8:30am by this point..... Try and get "Goody" as your deli helper. He was the best. Spot on recommendation for the tastiest Boars Head turkey, and offered me a taste of every item that I purchased. All the biddys were green with envy as I munched on some fresh sliced honey ham and lorraine swiss while they protectively stood their ground. Goody also knows the art of the thin slice. 14 out of 17 cashier lines open, in addition to the self check outs... Every lane was about 7 people deep, but things moved pretty fast. Never really saw grocery carts backed up halfway down the aisles ever before. Giant did good with providing the local community plenty of bread, milk and cheese (see attached photo) for this weekend. read more

I've been going miles out of my way to Sasfeway's Montrose Crossing (Rockville, Md.) store for years because of it's outstanding salad bar, products selction and overall well laid-out venue. With the recent "new & improved" renovations.......and yet another ^%$ Starbucks right in the middle of the produce section.........this store has dropped from a "10" to a very solid "4" on my 1--10 scale. What idiot rotated the isle information signs so you can't read them unless you go all the way to the front of the store ? What idiot didn't mark isle 4 sign with "Soups" when the isle has 10,000 cans of soup ? What idiiot moved the pre-packaged bread some 20 isles away from the bakery ? What idiot put a Starbucks in the middle of the produce section, thereby reducing this (previously) wonderful section to "ho hum" status ??? The only people I see using Starbucks are Giant employees, which is totally the wrong image. And who paid for this catrastrophic renovation ? We did......the customers. Who ever approved of this "improvement" needs to be given a broom for the next 2--3 years.......or until Giant puts it's Montrose Crossing store back the way it was. Updating my review. I made the mistake of coming back here because I needed pet food. We bought Friskies Indoor Delights Dry food. After the cat was eating it for a couple days we realized there were merchant grain bugs in it. They spread all over our home and have we had to throw out all of our grains. Showed their true colors, wanting to see people who are disabled go without food. Long story short: I went in to buy food on 11/20/22 at about 10:10am store #125 and spoke to Manger Carrie D**** trying to use my digital ID to buy $6 worth of food for my dependent but was turned away. I offered to show evidence she was my dependent, but was refused. She said she would not accept my digital ID from the company, despite the company using the digital id because it takes 3x weeks to send a replacement card in the mail, and they know people have to eat. The card, btw, is a printed piece of paper with a barcode on it, nothing official like a magnetic strip. I told her to call the company to prove this was acceptable, she refused, I called to have the company call her, and she HUNG UP ON THEM. She said "Nobody tells me how to run MY STORE". What a Loathsome person to add just another boundary to people who are disabled, just because she made up her own rules, and wants to play King. Again this is $6 worth of food, for a disabled person, from a legitimate business partner of giant food, with a legitimate digital id. Disgusting... read more

It was a Friday evening. I was about to head back home. My daughter texted asking me to pick up a large carton of half and half & a block cheddar cheese. I was near the Capital One bank branch on Rockville Pike at the Congressional Plaza. The closest grocery store was Safeway but as it had a parking garage situation that I did not want to deal with tonight. Searching on Google I found a Giant Food store was just a little bit more than a half mile from me and drove to it. This is one of those "giant" Giant stores. The entrance and the exterior is very different than other Giant stores. I liked it! I am not a fan of the weird entrance & exit design at most Giant stores. There's a large parking lot at this location. Once inside I walked around a little bit to locate the half & half as it is on an end cap at the back of the store. The cheese section was just around the corner. The packages of 8 oz cheese sell for more than I usually have to pay at Target & the half and half is more expensive too. I looked at their section of 32 ounce Greek yogurt tubs. The plain, vanilla and vanilla honey flavored options here including any store brand is more limiting and expensive than I find at Target stores. And there was more sugar added in all the ones that looked at than I like. I did a fast pass around the store's paremeter looking for the dairy section including the large produce area. The shortages were gone that I found at Giant stores just a few weeks back. The produce looked nice and fresh but was priced higher than I like to pay. The self checkout was still the quickest way to get out of the store. The customer service in this area was good! I was ready to get home for dinner! The biggest thing this store has going against it is one manager who's always yelling. He's mostly trying to be 15 and cool--it's not angry yelling but it's extraordinarily loud, very annoying, and super unprofessional. I go out of my way to avoid aisles where he's hanging out. My ears can't take it. Would be nice if someone higher than him would encourage him to reign it in. High school's over, champ. Agree with other reviewers that this store layout is goofy. Some pretzels over here, some way over there, some bread in this aisle, others on that end cap. Put stuff together--we don't shop that way. Checkers largely don't bag as they check out, which means either a delay at the end while they go back and bag everything that's been squashed at the end of the checkout, or the customer is doing it to keep things moving. The customer doesn't work here, guys. Take a hint from Wegman's and Harris Teeter and bag as you go. Produce is typical of Giant produce, which is not very good. Ditto for seafood. Check dates on everything because stuff stays on the shelf pretty well past its prime. This is the best Giant in the area for regular shopping. Sadly, that doesn't say much. It's one step up from a convenience store. The layout of the store is goofy and clearly designed for corporate marketing. I've never been that excited about the produce section, it too is scattered about the store. They are often out of stock or selection is not fantastic. Forget a meat cutter after 2 pm and the meat section is a bit of a joke. I wanted to find bone in chicken breast and it didn't exist anywhere but as a whole chicken. Yet there were rows and rows of chicken thighs and boneless. Beef at Giant is never tasty, no matter which Giant store, Safeway wins the beef taste test over Giant every time too. The store is also dimly lite but I like the large aisles to pass other carts. The employees are fine but do be prepared to go to customer service to haggle about a wrong price on your bill and the store has a serious problem labeling prices in general, but most grocery stores do. Also be prepared to wander around aimlessly looking for things too, even employees have to ask each other to find things. Canned beans are in four places. Pray there is a human to ring up your order or have the patience of two saints to navigate the self serve system and the unrelenting need to have some employee to take mercy on you and help when it stops working for whatever dumb reason. Never use the scan as you go machine thing, did that 3 times and all 3 times it failed to work, annoying waste of time. It's close to my office, that's why I go here. I wouldn't make an effort to shop here. read more

This store has a better selection than other Giants nearby and has good weekly sales. However, the checkout experience is a complete disaster. At any one time probably 75% of the self-checkout lines will require employee assistance, which often leaves you standing and waiting for staff to come let you finish your checkout. Note to Giant, when so many of your self checkout lines fail the problem is with your system, not the users. read more

A couple of things: I'm here aaalllll the time. I'm unemployed at the moment and the highlight of my day is planning dinner, and since it's the closest and cheapest to my apartment, I'm a Giant food store regular. If I came to this area 2 years ago, Giant would have been Giant, not Stop and Shop under some assumed alias. Because the logo, the store-brand labels, and the Nature's Promise selection is the same, and upon some wikipedia research, the merger of Giant and Stop and Shop food chains happened 4 years ago but wasn't visually represented until 08. So why even mention this? Well, I'm from New England and I grew up on Stop and Shop. Granted, not all Stop and Shops are the same, but the good ones are great - fresh produce, warm, freshly baked bread, and my favorite - the olive bar. The simple fact of the matter is, Giant is not Stop and Shop. I come here, I see all the fixings of a Stop and Shop (except for the poorly laid out floor plan) and I'm always disappointed. The bakery is lacking (I came at opening and the bread was not freshly baked as I'm used to. Maybe I'm spoiled, or maybe Stop and Shop is just better.) The produce is a hit or a miss, not to mention the serious lack of an olive bar (a salad bar with some marinated bocconcini and pimento-stuffed olives does not count). Granted I've found some good deals on meats and discontinued items, and after trying out the Shoppers, Harris Teeter, even the Trader Joes, I'd rather go to Giant for it's selection and price. In the quest to find the best grocery store in the area (harder than it sounds), I've gone to this Giant a few times. Like most places in the area, the parking lot is a bit scary, but I always find spaces. The grocery store is HUGE inside. The biggest disappointment is the produce. Just about everything I've bought here, or wanted to buy, has been "off". I bought cut watermelon that looked great, brought it to work 2 days later, and had to throw it all out because it tasted (and smelled) putrid. Some of the other produce items that I've needed, I haven't been able to find. I've also been a bit disappointed in the bakery options (specifically the fresh bread options). The best part about this grocery store is the organic/special foods section, which has tons of great options/products such as gluten-free pasta, Ezekiel bread, quinoa, and Amy's products. The rest of the store is a typical Giant, but on the bigger side. As far as price, this grocery store is more expensive than the Food Lion in Rockville, but less expensive than other places nearby. They've also had a decent number of checkout lines each time I've been here, and I've never had to wait too long. Average. Nothing great. Nothing special. The produce could be a little fresher. The quality of the meat is not that great. I prefer the steaks from Costco (Costco's got some Ruth Chris quality steaks). I tried using the handy hand scanner but I ended up being more confused than anything else. They offer you coupons as you shop, but I didn't know how to apply them to my current shopping trip. Plus when you only have a hand basket, it's kind of a pain to juggle the basket, the item, and the hand scanner all at the same time. If you use the hand scanner and you're ready to check out. Make sure you scan the small obscure bar code at the top of the register. If you can't see it, it's buried under screens and more screens. You would think that there would be a big sign or arrow that points at the darn thing.... I'm sticking with the regular self checkout next time. read more

We went to this Giant yesterday and I hadn't been there for many years, but its large size is a real advantage in terms of selection. Also - and in particular - our cashier was a *really* sweet young guy! We had a very pleasant conversation with him as he scanned & packed everything - and when I mentioned the fact that I was sweating to death (not much of an exaggeration) and we were going to hit the road back to NYC, he had another young guy go to the Service Desk and get us two bottled waters "for the road" (free-of-charge)! I am a smoked whitefish lover and make my grandmother's recipe for whitefish salad. My challenge has been to find it available at my local Giant Food located at Rockville Pike and Randolph Rd. I spoke with Tina at the Seafood counter and low and behold, she ordered the frozen white fish single portions for me, and after several attempts, she was able to get my order through to the supplier and I'll be picking it up today with the hope that the Giant Food supply chain has finally stopped removing her order.
