Growing up in the Northern VA area, I grew up with my local Giant. Still have one near by house. Recently when in the Warrenton area we stopped into this one and the first thing I noticed was the older style vestibule, from the 70's. Pricing & making prices more accessible! I took a picture of the asparagus price after because it was per pound but the way it was set up in produce as if it was on sale and it was a great deal with a very large 379 and then a tiny letters it had lb. I have noticed that consistently here that I pick things up and I get to the checkstand even with my card and I'm not saving. Then they were making rude remarks about me because I couldn't hear them say which aisle and I walked down the wrong aisle and one of the ladies was legit yelling at me LMAO. ITS ALL ABOUT THE PEOPLE!!! I just moved here from the West Coast and the folks here are so southernly helpful in their customer service. & there is no better example than Charles!!! I ran to Giant 30 minutes before closing last night for much needed OTC meds for my under-the-weather wife. Only to get to the self checkout and realize I'd forgotten my credit card - when Charles, who was manning the scanning checkout, noticed my predicament and said "this looks important", pulled out his credit card, charged the $13 for my wife's meds and said "pay me back when you can". Super disappointing. My wife placed an order five days ago for pickup this evening. When I picked up the items i was informed that the green lettuce was sold out. It is very unfortunate that even after five days since the order was placed, the store was unable to reserve lettuce for us. Actually disappointing is probably a better way to describe the incident. I believe that the store does not remove the items from the shelf until the agreed upon pickup time. Since our pick up time was 6pm-7pm, people had probably bought all the lettuce heads. read more

The only reason I used to visit the Giant Food store was for stamps. Now that I pay most all my bills online, I am happy to say I've only been in to get loaf of bread or some ketchup on the fly. This store is as it's named. Giant. But for me? It's too big. I don't need to power walk the store to get what I need. Even the ATM is all the way at the far end of the store from the entrance. Products sold are expensive. The layout is confusing. This is the last place I would go to get groceries or anything really. Not worth the troubles when there are other options close by. read more

I was trying to locate a hot chocolate mix I had purchased recently. I could not remember which grocery story I had bought it in. When I searched the aisles in Giant, I didn't see it, so I called the store one day to speak to a manager. Tim, one of the managers, took my call. I gave him the name of the hot chocolate mix along with a description of the tin can it came in, and he knew right away which one I was talking about. He took the time to look for this product in the store and told me it looked like it was out of stock in the store, but that he would find out further information and get back to me. Several days later, Tim called me to let me know he had contacted the warehouse and found out that they were waiting for the next shipment of this hot chocolate mix. He told me he would call me if and when it was delivered to the store. I so appreciate the time Tim took to help me find this product. He truly went the extra mile and I greatly appreciate his time and effort! read more

I prefer to do my grocery shopping at this giant. I will usually stop on my way after work and go shopping since its on the way home. The store is very clean and always has what I am looking for. The discounts are great and I love getting the gas points! read more

Usually I would say Giant Is an OK store....(usually go to get my families prescriptions filled) and then do any needed shopping (3 stars for good pricing) But today I purchased an Apple Pie from there.....(and Idk if you guys actually make your pies in store or not,which I would know if someone would answer the phone!!)but I just found a freaking apple stem in my pie!!!! Please pay more attention to what you are doing!!! (You are handling food!!) AND when I called.......ALL I GOT WAS SOME HOLD music and NO answer......... Not quite A-OK in Warrenton. I've always shopped at Giant in Virginia, mostly I guess because that's where my mother shopped -- we're looking at a combined total of 25 years of shopping at Giant in Vienna and Arlington. For the most part I like the selection and prices (and the gas discount.) The checkout process, however, has me looking for another grocery store. Here's why: 1. They have one employee who is ALWAYS on checkout duty who is excruciatingly slow. If you've been there, you know who I'm talking about. It's so bad that customers who know better will go to a busy lane even when he is open -- other checkers handle roughly three customers for every one he does. This guy must be the most senior union employee -- I can't see why they keep him, otherwise. 2. They go out of their way to make self-checkout inconvenient. In other Giants, there's a cart waiting for you to offload into and the floating checker will bag groceries to keep things moving. Not at the Warrenton Giant: You either have to go to the front of the store to get a second cart, or you have to find ways to pile things up at the end of the lane until you've emptied your cart. 3. Many of the baggers are poorly trained and they will fail to keep cold items together and will place items such as prepared foods in to bags sideways so that everything slides together or leaks. As I said, I like the selection and prices but the checkout process is annoying. Please, either get rid of that slow checker on the day shift or make self-checkout the efficient process it should be. Never going to this place again, I've never been impressed with their pricing and today took the cake, our kids like Boars Head turkey for their lunches, to the tune of about 2 pounds a week that we usually get from Harris Teeter. Well I was close to giant and I knew that they carry boars head products so I stopped in there to get some more turkey for the kids lunches. I can't believe I even walked out of the store with the turkey, when the guy went to slice the turkey about five flies flew away from the meat slicer that had plenty of old who knows how old meat pieces on it as well. Pharmacy prices are much lower than Wal-Greens or CVS. Staff is very friendly and fast. As an IT contractor I am often on self pay. Their discount card saves me a lot of money, it's $10.00 but you get a $10.00 store credit. Plus you get gas rewards at shell for all your purchases including medications! read more

There seems to be a growing trend with Giant Food and their UNTRAINED, UNQUALIFIED and UNPROFESSIONAL pharmacy staff... We had a prescription transferred to this Giant Pharmacy. We picked the prescription up about 2 weeks ago. Upon arriving home I realized they only gave us half the amount of the remaining prescription (should have been 60 pills and they gave us only 30). When we came back to retrieve the remaining 30 pills they failed to give us, we were rudely told (by a woman with blonde hair) that there was no remaining medication in this prescription. She proceeded to argue with us about the correct amount of medication the prescription was written for, loudly broadcasting our private information in front of other customers (the pharmacy was busy), embarrassing us and finally refused to help us any further. We then took it upon ourselves to call the other Giant Pharmacy that our prescription was transferred from. They called the Warrenton Giant Pharmacy we were at and corrected the issue. As it turns out the error was made by the Warrenton Giant Pharmacy staff by incorrectly entering my prescription information into their system. Once their error came to light they had the audacity to ask us to come back tomorrow because the "easiest" thing for them to do would be to call my doctor in the morning and request a new prescription for 30 pills. I told her this was not a sufficient solution and I did not want to waste another minute of my time here. She then proceeded to tell me that she could call her "help line" but it was "complicated" and would take several minutes. An hour and a half later I had my prescription. This ordeal was clearly not my fault yet I was intentionally embarrassed and belittled. As I have said before, Giant Food should greatly consider re-evaluating its basic practices and employee standards and should stop hiring unprofessional and unqualified individuals whom directly deal with personal, private information. read more

So I feel a little silly writing a review for a grocery store, because I think you usually know what you're getting when you go in, but the experience I just had today convinced me to share. Also, I want to say that several years ago I used to shop almost exclusively at Giant, and never had a problem. I needed to go in for a small grocery shopping trip with my two small children. I found a cart that I could fit both kids in and tried to find what I needed as quickly as possible before my kids had a meltdown. When I went to checkout, there were only two open lanes, both of them with VERY long lines. The numbered lane signs also said "12 items or less" on every single one. Huh? After a few minutes I realized that that part of the sign lit up when they were restricting items, but you could hardly tell the difference between the lit and unlit ones. So confusing! So in order to get out of the store more quickly, I opted to use to self-checkout lane. Let me also say that all of the checkout lanes, including the one I used, were very very narrow so that I could hardly squeeze myself past the cart, and I am not a big person. So as I'm checking myself out with my 40-something items while simultaneously trying to keep my kids calm, there are a couple of store employees hanging out doing, well, not much right near the end of my lane. My groceries are piling up and I keep having to go and stack them so as to keep them off the conveyer until my cart is empty and I can load them back in. Very slow going, and very obvious. At one point, the extra items on the belt caused the system to automatically call for a manager. She comes, looking very irritated, squeezes past me in the lane without saying a word, and then leaves. This happens one more time. I wasn't expecting royal treatment or anything, but really? None of these extra employees/managers could have opened any other checkouts to alleviate the long lines? And none of them could have offered to bag my groceries for me? I went here because it was convenient today, but I won't be going back. Just go to Wegmans. read more
