It was a good security measure. The other reason for the good review is because of the outstanding service of the technician, Kyle B. He is a nice aspiring young man with the right friendly attitude. He did a garage "tune-up" and diagnosed the problem--which, he said, was the door itself. He went into great length explaining to me why. He pulled that string above the door and showed me that the problem was not the mechanism but the door. He then proceeded to give me a list of prices to replace the garage door. After he left, there was a minor problem with the door due to me forgetting instructions on how to use the string above the door so I called back and Bruce, the manager, took ownership of the issue and sent Kyle back to re-check the problem. Kyle came back and fixed the garage door again and told me to call him directly for any future problems. He had a nice attitude as usual. Also, when I called Bruce to commend Kyle, we had a nice long chat and he sweetened the replacement door deal for me and gave me a good discount and put that in the notes in case I decided to go ahead and replace the garage door. Overall, I had a refreshingly wonderful experience with Alpha 1 Garage Door Service due to the prestigious service of Kyle B. and his manager, Bruce. I recommend using this company for sure.

Jobs are sub-contracted, so you never know who you'll get and what kind of work they do. I'm not a fan of this type of business because it's really hit and miss. Some people will get a really fair company with great satisfaction and overall experience and give a raving review. The next person can get a swindler and have a terrible experience. I used them and they sent out Local Pro Garage Door who quoted me $800 to replace two springs. Job should be nowhere near $800. Going rate for torsion springs is $100 each for the high cycle (heavy duty ones) and labor will run you about $150 (at time of this posting) for a job that takes somewhere between 45-90 minutes. Tried to negotiate down to something ballpark reasonable and they wouldn't budge. Paid the $35 inspection fee and sent him on his way. Looked up Local Pro Garage Door later, and they're rated D+ with the Better Business Bureau. This is why I not a fan of using companies that sub-contract... Bottom line, do your homework on local businesses, especially when it comes to service. Get recommendations from friends and neighbors, after all, that how Angie's List was born...
