I find it ridiculous that a customer has to REPEATEDLY keep filling out a long and ridiculous questionnaire online just To see a stylist profile!!! I should be able To read and pick one myself to book NOT have the system only give me 1-3 choices that I don't even want! I used to come here for years, loved this place. My last appointment was half a year ago and I'm still struggling with their mistakes. I asked for a trim and a Carmel colour highlight. I spent hours there and I left sobbing after they gave me a brassy blonde and cut off 8 inches. They attempted to fix it the next day. Needless to say, it was not fixed and I am to this day still dealing with short hair so damaged that its thinning and breaking off like string cheese. Love this place! This is now my salon of choice when it comes to doing anything for me hair related. I was originally turned off by the pricing in the beginning but once I experienced it, it was gladly worth it. It's not like you do this every week, so a splurge on yourself.. YOU DESERVE IT. My hairdresser is Brittany.. it's always fun getting my cut with her.. and my colorist is Roxy.. super fun and energetic! They have you change into a gown before you start services. Everyone is pleasant and accommodating. There are snacks and refreshments available. The perks are the mini services they include with your service. I had a mini facial once and a neck massage. For the amount of money you spend here, you'd think the service is exceptional but that wasn't the case for me. The whole appointment felt rushed especially when it came to complimentary services. During my cut we had to stop for a 15 min consultation for another client. I sat there waiting the entire time. Then again left for another client and given to someone else to blow dry.. and obviously nobody wants to blow dry someone that isn't their client lol you can feel the tension. My scalp certainly did. It was not a relaxing experience. If you can afford to spend 80-100$ on a haircut consider going somewhere else. What happened to this place. Its so expensive and the energy the look the staff is not it. The dress code needs to be updated, to the point I can't tell who is working here. I also was walking to a chair mid hair being done and I'm watching the guy that works there and another employee getting neck massage in the middle of salon. I'm not sure if the employee was a client or if they were practicing as I know they give massages but it just looked weird and made me uncomfortable. Now for the hair. Katie did my hair she was a master colorist #5 I'm guessing that's the highest?. She was rude, impatient and should not be a level 5. As I was getting my hair done by hair I overheard two of her clients complain on the color, I knew it was a bad sign but it was too late. I also noticed as she was doing my hair that her assistant took care of one of her clients blow drying then finished and never walked back to her client to talk about finished look which looked like a botched job. I can tell client was being nice about it and was waiting for Katie to talk about the finish look but nothing. The client checked out and looked devastated. I then got the same treatment and I spent so much money for my color. It was brassy it looked like it mixed with color and trust me I know pictures I reference would never be exact but I promise you it was way off and hearing her other clients say the same thing while I was on the chair really turned me off to this place. Really what happened here? It use to feel luxurious and professional and now it's like a ghetto salon with rude people working here. I'm really shocked especially for the location and prices that people even come here. Mind you the hair color wouldn't have been so bad if Katie wasn't rude, dismissive and worst customer service skills. If you spend a certain amount a money you should at least have hair colorist look at the final look and make sure it's all good. Never again! My daughter loves this place. (My wallet begs to differ.) We came here from a recommendation from a family member for a cut and red highlights. Upon calling the salon, we were given an appointment with options to sign up for an online account, which would make future reminders and scheduling easy via text and or email. The day of our appointment: It was a typical bustling afternoon. The salon is located at Otay Ranch Mall, where Verizon. Ulta Beauty, Blaze Pizza, and the Kebob Shop are nearby. There is ample parking, I never have a problem finding a spot here. We walk in and are greeted right away by the receptionists. The wait wasn't even a wait. Two minutes, tops and she was instructed to put on a smock in one of the changing rooms. From there her hairstylist took her to her chair and started the consultation. The hairstylist took her time, and made sure she understood what look my daughter was wanting. The cut comes with a complimentary massage, but my daughter declined (wth! but whatever). She got a shampoo and condition as well. After her style was complete, it was time for the color expert. Again, this stylist was thorough and asked a lot of questions to ensure we were satisfied with the service. And absolutely satisfied we were. Daughter couldn't be more happier! They also recommended some Aveda products to help her look her best. With that said, all in all, with the cut, color, products, and tips, I was out about $500 although in love with my daughter's new look! (I would post a pic, but per her request I cannot. Before the pandemic, I supported this business for years. But during the pandemic, Gila Rut requires a waiver in case a customer is infected with Covid-19 at the salon. This waiver is a disappointment for numerous reasons: 1) By requiring customers to sign a waiver, Gila Rut doesn't seem serious about hygiene & sanitation. They claim to be serious, but waivers make these claims hollow. 2) Gila Rut's primary responsibility is to provide a safe & sanitary workplace for its stylists & customers. There's pages of legal-speak to indemnify & hold Gila Rut harmless; but no details about what Gila Rut does to protect its customers. 3) For the past 7 months, I've cautiously gone to stores, the bank, takeout Tuesdays at restaurants, and hired local contractors. And not one of these businesses required a waiver. I don't want to get infected with Covid-19 any more than I want my local community to get Covid-19. But Gila Rut's waiver isn't in the same spirit of "We're in this Together." The waiver is a straightforward "You're on your own." The law already sides in favor of any business that follows state & local safety protocols. So what's Gila Rut failing to do to require such an elaborate shield. The waiver isn't even mutual, meaning Gila Rut reserves its rights to sue a customer who infects anyone at the salon. Not worth it. read more

My wife and daughter come to this salon and they love every minute being in here due to the fact that it makes them feel more gorgeous than when they first walked in (even though they both don't need it). Once walking in you are quickly greeted and you can smell the awesome hair products in the air. The employees are always nice and they try to do what they can to fully satisfy their customers and are very entitative. The business is always clean and so are the restrooms. The prices are decent but when it comes to women's hair that shouldn't be a shocker. I am beyond upset. This is my first time at this Aveda salon but I used to go to another one before so I know what they are about. I was told that I would be charged an extra $35 to have my hair straightened after I got my hair cut. This is nonsense, I have never been told to pay extra for this. Instead, my hair was blowdried and left pretty much wet. The hairstylist said it was 90% dry. Hmmm, nope! And it looked terrible! The website promised a complimentary scalp or hand massage or a facial. This is an Aveda salon thing that I was looking forward to. I was not offered that! She BUTCHERED my hair, took over an hour, left me in tears. There were chunks missing, uneven sides, and she SHAVED half the back of my head. This was my first time visiting this salon, and it's a struggle for me finding someone I really like and trust to cut my hair, but Vanessa was awesome. Went here for my birthday and I had a great experience. I went in for a morning appointment. I had chunky streaks done, a process that takes several hours for my long/thick hair. Every moment was indulgent! The massage was a great added bonus. The complimentary service I chose was a mini makeover.. It was early in the day and figured I can get my makeup done. Unfortunately, that was the only thing I didn't like too much. Let's just say I ended up wiping it all off as soon as I got home. otherwise, the experience was great and I would love to go again... Went here again the other morning as a walk-in and I was lucky to be able to be taken care of right away. Came in for a haircut... Friendly, quality service. I wanted to update my review. I no longer regularly go to Gila Rut because I followed Desiree to her new salon. But my hair needed some major TLC and my next appointment with Desiree is in two weeks. So decided to have a service with Roxy yesterday and I was very happy. Roxy made my hair look 100x better, she was honest and communication all my options to achieve my hair goals. In addition she was professional, bubbly and just an enjoyable person to be around. I really appreciate the extra effort she put into my little head massage while washing my hair. Very relaxing! Is the DRAMA worth the cost? These are the cliff notes of what happened when I arrived at the Gila Rut. I was confronted with a receptionist who needed to be more professionally trained. Next, a lady, unsure who she was, came out from the back of the salon and started apologizing. She did not introduce herself, so I will call her lady in this rundown. I thought, ok, it happens (bad service), and I went to change. Then, the color technician and I got into an argument over color. She would not let me pick a color from the color sample book and told me she preferred a picture. I told her I did not bring a picture, not knowing it was a prerequisite. At this point, the lady came out from the back of the salon, commented about my body language, said I was being defensive, and accused me of making the appointment online. I told everyone I would leave, but then someone introduced themselves to me and was highly professional. She defused the situation, and I waited. The entire event left me drained and emotional; I felt Revilement as I cried with the color technician doing my hair. It was not relaxing. Everyone was unprofessional except the stylist, who introduced herself. If indeed that was the manager, she commented about my body language and how I was carrying myself (my posture), which only made me madder. The receptionist clearly was not trained. She should have a name tag that said in training. I might have understood her inability to check me in and get me appropriately situated, but she argued with me over my appointment, and I had to produce an appointment confirmation receipt. I spent over 500 $ and wonder if this experience is worth the cost. read more

READ RECENT REVIEWS before booking here, I regret not having read them before I booked my session with Rachel. I was really excited for my booking because I had my once in a lifetime engagement shoot and wanted to get a blowout and curl. I explained to Rachel that it was at a beach and it was going to be windy so please extra secure my hair. I asked for more Bobby pins and hairspray and she promised it would hold and that she was absolutely certain my half up half down style would stay and that I could trust her, she's done it many times before. Guess what? It didn't stay. :/ I was so disappointed that I trusted her promise and was let down and my hair came undone for my engagement photos. :( Furthermore when I reached out to the manager, Elida, via email (similar to other reviews below) she gave me a cookie cutter response about customer service being their top priority and that was that. The customer service is seriously lacking here. There's no integrity in the work that they do and do not take responsibility for their shortcomings. I always have a great experience whenever I am at Gila rut. The front desk staff are always very helpful. Vanessa is a great hair stylist and I love the way she cuts my bangs as I am quite picky on how I want my bangs ,She knows exactly how I like them. So whenever you get a haircut you have a choice of a complimentary mini facial, hand and neck massage or makeup. You can select any two of the above options. I highly recommend the mini facial and massage. Menaz the hair colorist is amazing. She helped me select the color I wanted without getting my hair bleached . She used a hair color that enhanced my hair and she used a hair dye that was all natural. I love using Aveda products as it's all natural and they have a wide range of sulphate free shampoos and conditioners. Their service and products are pricey but they are worth it. Everyone is friendly and very accommodating. I got my hair cut by Madison - incredibly friendly and sweet. She listened attentively, gave me options based on my hair, and was meticulous about the cut and styling (Highly recommend her). I went from really long hair to a lob and I love it! I had not, until I flashed a photo of Kelly Reilly to my hairstylist Roxy. I might have felt a little embarrassed, if not for Roxy's warm, bubbly, thoughtful, and deeply unpretentious way. As someone with healthy long hair who wants it to stay that way, I'm incredibly neurotic about hair coloring but Roxy took her time and made sure I was happy with it every step of the way. HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not EVER go to this salon!!!!! The WORST customer service EVER!!! I was going from a light brown to a partial blonde and they couldn't even get this simple, what I could have done at home right! I had more than a few noticable bleed marks. Which in all the 10 years I have been getting my hair done this has never happenned! And this was from the CREATIVE DIRECTOR! I asked if it could be corrected and they were very rude. They said they would give me my money back and I could go somewhere else, when it was THEIR fault!!! I have never had to ask a stylist to correct anything for me. I was just trying to find a salon closer to my house than downtown or hillcrest and this is what I get??! They ended up trying to fix it 2 more times and very rude the entire time.
