I finally found my good leather boots hidden away in a pile of random stuff after a move and was excited to wear them again, only to find I couldn't because the sole on one of them had cracked into several pieces that no glue could help. I meant to try and fix them for more than a year, but it kept slipping my mind because it was a pretty big unexpected expense at around $80. But I finally got fed up with not having them available, and decided it was still less than what I would pay for a new pair, if I even could find ones I liked, and I loved how these look and feel. It took an extra couple of days for them to be ready than the original pickup date, but they called early in the day to ask if I wouldn't mind waiting. I was not expecting much, just the soles and tap replaced, but when I got them, they had really brought them back from the brink, touching up the faded spots wear the color was dappled, tacking the frayed leather cover on the heel, and even patched a couple of small tears in the leather on the toe and heel. Really did go the exrtra mile to RENEW them, when I would've been just happy to kick around in em without my feet getting wet or pieces coming off the bottom. They fit nice, and I have my good boots actually looking like NICE boots again. I will call and thank them for the extra effort today. Really made it worth the cost of getting them fixed by a pro instead of me trying to salvage them with my trusty Weldwood Contact Cement like I usually do ... read more

The woman does not understand and the man has a very bad attitude, After waiting and waiting for them to find the 3 pairs of shoes that should have been ready the week before I was getting nervous when they found them I sighed and said "wooow I was about to get mad" The Hispanic man behind the counter said "What did you say?" I could tell HE was getting mad! Then he began snatching my shoes out of the plastic bag and slamming them on the counter and saying "You Customers" I said. "You customers what?" I used them to put grommets in a cell phone wallet I ordered online that I wanted to wear as a crossbody. They repaired it quickly and professionally. The lady was friendly when I called to tell her what I needed. When I went in, I was given a MUCH more reasonable price and was told it would be done the following day. They actually completed it on the same day close to closing time. (The first two shoe repair shoe stores I contacted quoted me a ridiculous price of an additional $20 to put two small grommets in a wallet and wanted 2-3 days to do it.) This place is a hidden gem! I walked right past it and realized I had an expensive pair of booties in my car that I had been holding onto which needed the sole repaired. I came in and spoke with the friendly person at the counter, he gave a great price to fix and voila my booties are good as new. I took an old pair of Steve Madden wedges to Gilbees that were falling apart. Gilbee was the nicest guy ever. Customer service was awesome. I told Gilbee how I went to Mike's in Culver City & Mike literally glanced at my shoes & said no we can't fix. Gilbee informed that some businesses don't want the headache. I dropped my shoes off on a Saturday & went in the following Saturday to pick them up. Gilbee glued the leather back together so I can start back wearing the shoes. Gilbee charged $45.00. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS PLACE. You will regret it. My first and last experience was the worst customer experience ever. I took a bag in for insulation and patch work. When I received the bag and asked by why he did not patch the inside, he wanted to charge an an extra $15. I came to get my bag and he and his employees accused me of dropping the missing material on the street, which was not true. The owner was rude, insulting and unprofessional. NEVER PATRONIZE A PLACE THAT DOESN'T RESPECT PAYING CUSTOMERS. Save yourself a headache. Go elsewhere. No business should ever treat customers the way that guy did. I needed my heels repaired. The metal was sticking out of the heel. So I swung by Gilbees. I have used this store before years ago when I needs some leather boots to be stretch. They were too tight for my calves. Gilbees stretched them out until they were a perfect fit for me. I love mom and pop service. It seems people are more personable and the business really stands by the "customer is right" and wholeheartedly wants to make sure the customer is satisfied. With that said...in 2017 carrying cash is not a norm. So please if you are a cash only business make it convenient for the customer. There is not an ATM around to go grab cash for the required deposit. Luckily my deposit was only $5 and I had to dig up change from the car to produce the $5 cash, but I was able to do it. whoooo hooo! Short Review: Sloppy, careless work. Go elsewhere. Full disclosure: this experience is partially my fault. I had a pair of reddish-brown Cole Haan shoes that got something spilled on them. Went here to have them cleaned. Man tells me they can't clean them, but they can dye them. Should have headed for the hills (my fault), but I decide to give them a try, because the shoes are already messed up, right? He asks, "are they two-tone?" The shoes are not "two-tone," as I am not a jazz musician in the 1940's. Again, the shoes are brown, but they are reddish brown, getting more reddish towards the toe. I tell him I do not want to lose the redness. Ignoring me, he points to two of the three or more shades on the shoe and asks which color I want. I choose (my fault) a shade of tan. He takes my deposit (the place is cash only, with half due up front - my fault), and I leave, worried but hopeful. I return 5 days later, present my ticket and receive my completely unrecognizable shoes. Mud brown, from heel to toe. Splotches of dye on the outsole and heel. What were once Cole Haans are now Thom McAns. They are ruined. If you have some $50 shoes that you need a quick polish on, this is the spot. But if you have some shoes that you really like that require real craftsmanship, save yourself some heartache and go elsewhere. read more

I've taken shoes and clothes to be fixed at Gilbees, and I've been completely satisfied with the work they've done on everything I've brought in. Tell them when you want to pick up your stuff, and they'll have it ready for you. Mom and pop operation, and everyone is very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly.. Prices are reasonable, and there is plenty of parking. It's one of the stores on the back side of the Crenshaw Square so go to the parking lot in the back, behind the post office on 39th Street and Crenshaw. read more

Not going to lie by first impression I wasn't sure about the place the older woman in the first had a crappy attitude when I showed her the type of shoes I needed repaired she made it feel as if they couldn't do anything to fix them so a younger Latina woman with glasses stepped in to help she assured me that they were going to try their best and she gave me a receipt with a 6 month warranty on them so I wouldn't have any issues with them. When I went to go pick them up the man who fixed them gave them to me he was very nice let me know what the problem was what he did to fix it and made me feel secure about my business with them. He removed snap closures and put button holes for me on my leather jacket, fixed a strap on a MK leather purse, stitched a seam on a Calvin Klein reversible purse and tacked down bows on the front of leather heels. The work has been excellent, always ready on time, and very reasonable!!! Parking is not easy but customers from other establishments are always leaving. read more

The repairs were too expensive and not well executed. My shoes were not shined when returned to me. For what you pay for the repair and in comparison to other shoe repair shops where your shoes are shined this was a rip off. When I asked why my shoes were not shined or at least wiped off she stated we only do what we are paid for. The "leather" insoles he used did not hold up and he charged way too much to replace caps on my shoes. I could have bought another pair of shoes for that amount. I don't recommend this shoe repair shop. The workmanship is crappy. read more
