So I came to the shop to get our university's mascot's chinstrap repaored. I also had a backpack to be modified with a shade as it is a dog backpack and I like to hike with my dog & wanted the backpack to have some shade. The gentleman that runs the shoe shop was very friendly and professional and could fix the chinstrap of the mascot because it was just a football helmet. I think he was a bit bewildered with the dog backpack and having to sew on a shade for it LOL but he did it! He did such a great job on repairing both items and my boss was so excited that it cost a lot less that she thought it would to have the chin strap repaired. I was happy that the backpack modification was a lot less than I thought as well! If I ever need a shoe repair or any clothing/shoe item repaired, I would definitely come here! I've been going to Major Shoe Repair for over 10 years, for all my shoe adjustments and repairs. Although it is only a short walk away from my home, I would be willing to travel some distance to go there, because of the owner's expertise, excellent quality workmanship, honesty, and fair prices. Years ago I was at a place where the owner makes custom made orthopedic shoes, orthotics and prosthetic limbs. The man there saw the work done on my shoes by Major Shoe Repair and said, "This is beautiful!" Since my left leg is slightly shorter than my right leg, I have to get shoes adjusted as soon as I buy them. Major Shoe Repair has always done this perfectly, putting a full sole on the left shoe 12 millimeters thick. I also wear heels down very fast; I feel fatigued and uncomfortable when this happens. So he can cut out an area of the heel and put in a heel made of rubber much harder than the original rubber on the shoe, and also replace it when I wear down that heel. Also, I got a new style shoe and he noticed that the heel area was slightly beveled (this was how it was designed). He pointed out to me that since I'm bothered by worn down heels, what he would need to do is add a tiny wedge of rubber to make the heel area perfectly level before adding the hard rubber heel. This works great. If you need shoes or a handbag dyed, he can do that also. He told me that the companies that make the dyes have a color chart and mixing instructions for getting a blended color, but if he goes by these instructions, it does not come out right -- he has an artistic eye for the colors, so he has his own method of blending them. Though he can do almost anything, occasionally a customer will bring in something with a type of damage that cannot be repaired satisfactorily. When this happens, he will honestly explain to the customer exactly why this is so, instead of just saying it can't be fixed. Major Shoe Repair also repairs handbags and luggage with the same care and attention to detail. read more

Do not bring your shoes here! I have never written a negative review for Yelp before. My experience this morning is changing that. Three weeks ago, I dropped off a pair of Kork Ease sandals to be repaired at Major Shoe Repair. The elastics needed to be replaced and there were places where the leather sandal straps needed to be glued. They told me it would take five days and I was leaving for a trip so I picked them up when I returned. The shoes looked fine to me when I picked them up. I wore them maybe two or three times and the straps separated from the base of the shoe again. I brought them back yesterday and the older man who works at the store said that he'd never repaired these shoes. I said, "I know. They hadn't been repaired, but I paid 36 dollars to have them repaired." He shrugged (didn't speak English very well) and asked if I could come back the next day to speak to the owner. This morning, I schlepped back to the store to show owner the pair of shoes. The owner said to me that he didn't remember the pair of shoes but it looked like the elastics had never been replaced. I said that they had but that they hadn't completed the repair. That they'd made a mistake. I wasn't accusatory (people make mistakes) but he continued to deny that they'd ever repaired the shoes in the first place. He kept arguing then he put on a pair of glasses and said that maybe he had done the elastics but he'd never repaired the leather. I said yes, this was the problem. I felt like Alice who'd fallen down a rabbit hole. We were agreeing that the shoes had never been repaired but he was saying maybe my 36 dollars was for another pair of shoes. It was so frustrating that I almost started crying. He said that he would charge me another 12 dollars to fix the work that I'd already paid for him to do. It was crazy. I took my shoes that I'd already paid for and said forget it. This owner is not responsible, is unresponsive etc. They have an antiquated system where they give you a claim check and then look through what appears to be hundreds of what plastic bags to find your one pair of shoes. I'm going to back to Pasquale Shoe repair which is admittedly pricier, but I want things done once and I want it to be done correctly. I will never use Major Shoe Repair again. read more

Every time I go to major shoe repair, I know I will be well taken care of. The guys there do exactly what I ask them to do and also have ideas if I have a certain problem. For example, the ankle straps on my shoes were too long; instead of cutting the straps, the owner simply moved the velcro over to solve my problem.
