Amazing food, friendly staff. Fun big log cabin "lodge" type place. TVs for sports and does carry outs too!

Came here on a Saturday night late night. They had a band that was finishing up. Our waitress sat us right away and was very prompt and friendly. Beer list isn't overly impressive. Didn't end up ordering one. Got the calamari for an appetizer. The calamari itself was okay though it was definitely swimming in oil and some weird soggy diced vegetables. Came with a side of weird sauce that it didn't even need. The flavor was pretty good though. I got the turkey artichoke sandwich with some seasoned fries. Boyfriend got the morning burger cooked medium with onion rings. My fries were good. Boyfriends onion rings were soggy. The coleslaw was good. Boyfriend said his burger was good except for the egg being overdone. My sandwich was good but messy. Overall this place is okay. There aren't many places around this area so there's not much to select from late at night but I thought it was good. read more

11 hours agoNEW Me and my family eat at Gilbert's all the time.....NEVER AGAIN!!!! I understand that sometimes places are under/short staffed. However, when the waitress brings us our drinks (Arnold Palmer, ginger ale, & 3 hot chocolates) asks us if we want appetizers, we say no but we're ready to order.....she walks away without taking our order and NEVER comes back. I end up throwing $10 on the table to pay for the drinks and walk out. The waitress hunts us down in the parking lot yelling at us that we have to pay our bill. We tell her to look on the table, the money is there. She yells its not enough and she's going to call the cops if we dont pay our bill. The bill ended up being $11.48. They hunt us down, threaten my job, call me names in front of my wife and my three young children over $1.48!!! So unbelievably unprofessional!!!! I am a first responder and never ever in my life have I been treated the way Gilbert's staff treated me! read more

I was impressed with the quality of my meal. I wanted pizza and my sister wanted bar food-so we ended up here because they have both! I was very impressed with the pizza-square and deep dish just like you would expect from a great Detroit pizza! Good crispy crust and flavor. Great place. Food is really good and good portions for sure. Don't miss the nachos or the calzone. Both were fabulous.

The wife went to pick up or carry out order and was told it wasn't ready yet and waited 10min. When she got home 5 min away from restaurant the food was cold the cheese was not even melted anymore on the burgers the saganaki pizza was hard it was so cold. We ordered dinner to go. Husband ordered a taco salad with maybe 1 tablespoon of ground beef in it. They way the salad was packed was awful, two separate lids not even connected to each other, and a loose piece of Saran Wrap over the salad (like that's going to keep it contained). We tried to look past it since it's a salad and sometimes salads suck at different restaurants. They get one star for the bug that was in my soup. read more

Went mostly to hear Jody Raffoul. Very good musician highly recommend to go check him out. Our server Selina was fantastic super friendly and kept our drinks flowing. I had the Gilbert's lounge lager a great tasting lager. Nice and smooth. $3.50 a pint not a bad deal. The three of us split a large pepperoni pizza , square thick cut, the pepperoni was not spicy at all , the sauce was a little bland. Not bad, not great. Typical bar food, mostly seems pre-prepared or frozen like from Gordon Food Service. Some GFS stuff is great. Nice sort of "up north" ambience. Service was OK. Nothing to really complain about, but nothing to rave about, either. read more

First time here, another mainstay of the Saint Clair Shores area, and I was not disappointed at all. Got a burger cooked medium, with fries. The seasoned fries I got were really, really tasty and nicely crunchy. You could tell they were fresh and not sitting in a fry warmer. The burger was decent as well, I feel like the temperature was closer to medium well rather than medium but that's okay. I'd like to revisit and try more of their menu. read more

The staff is close to retirement and beyond during the day who are completely miserable with horrible attitudes . Don't expect refills on your pops. Don't expect decent service. Don't expect a smile. Don't expect your order to be what you wanted . Etc......., Do expect being over charged , a bar full of day time drunks with no where to go, burnt pizza, cold fries, dirty bathrooms and a management team that seems to be non existent. I moved to SCS 5 months ago and have never been here before. My husband and I have tried carryout from several restaurants and we always end up with Gilbert's. Great food, service & prices. I had my daughters 1st birthday in their banquet room yesterday and I'm over the moon happy with how it turned out! The staff was super helpful and always around when I needed anything. The food was great, my guests raved about the pizza and spinach dip. I would book events here in the future without a doubt. I don't have to tell you how good Gilbert's is because people already know. On Sunday the parking lot was packed. So packed I had to park in the over flow lot. I walked in anticipating a line but was pleasantly surprised to be seated right away. The Lodge is an open space, the music isn't too loud, there are TVs and good food. Gilbert's has been around forever. Most places either don't last that long or get to looking so old and tired inside that you wonder if you should touch anything. That's not the case here. I always forget how good this place is! Used to come all the time, once every few weeks, but haven't been in close to a year, not sure why. I went today at 11:30, before the lunch rush, and it was perfect. That time and at 3-5 are some of the best times to go, because it is quiet and relaxing- it can get loud and busy quick, and there can easily be a wait at peak times\game days. Their calamari is probably the best I have had. It is not shaped as rings, and is lightly breaded, fried, and tender....sooooo good and lightweight. Usually when I come I get that as an appetizer along with a hamburger, which has a great flavor. Their fries are also delicious, especially their seasoned fries. Pizza is great, which I've had a few times, and so is their spinach salad, which I have only had once. Out of the countless times I have been here, I can only remember one time where my family had an issue. They are very consistent, everything is cooked to order, and prices are fair. 60 minute wait time for a table, and another 30 minutes to even take my order. Not worth coming back for just average food

So I came here specifically for the saganaki pizza and it wasn't great. The waitress barely lit it on fire, there was no "OPA" yelled and was just overall lackluster. The pizza itself was essentially just pizza dough with cheese on it. No sauce or anything. The term "pizza" is used very loosely here. It was dry. Also, water was leaking on me from a leaky pipe in the ceiling and the light was flickering enough to make an epileptic crazy. I thought I was in a Saw movie for a second. The cooks were also outside smoking which is gross in itself but they had aprons and gloves on which I just pray they changed before preparing food. I must've been asked by four different people if I had been health when I went in to get my carry out. Their service is outstanding. And the food was still hot when I got home and I don't live around the corner. Everything we ordered we were very pleased. Not often you find a place that offers bison out going out west. Gilbert's is getting 3 stars because our server was very good and tuned into our needs. Our server actually deserved 5 stars, hostess could have been more welcoming. Food was disappointing. The pizza and burger came out way too fast. Which means it was either pre made or frozen product. Hamburger totally looked like a frozen product. Pizza was somewhat cool when it came out I wondered if it was pre made with the toppings tossed on top. Something was not right with the tomato sauce. My wife and I went here for the first time for dinner. First impressions were great! When we arrived, the parking lot was practically full. So, I dropped off my wife in the front so that she can reserve a table while I look for a parking spot. As soon as I walked in, my wife flagged me down as she already had gotten a table. The food was awesome. We started with the saganaki. Delicious! My wife ordered the chicken Cesar salad. I ordered the mushroom swiss burger. It was cooked to perfection. It came with a pretzel bun. I never had a mushroom Swiss with a pretzel bun. It made it more appetizing than it already was. Overall, our experience was great. I have been coming to Gilberts for YEARS. I have lived in the neighborhood for about 10 years, and my brother lived here since about 1989, so I have had many a pint here. They have a pretty extensive menu that ranges from typical bar staple appetizers, burgers and buffalo burgers, and great pizza. They also have a huge list of sandwiches and dinners. Monday is half off pizza day, and you must try it. Also Louie's Italian Sub is great, the toast the entire sub so the bun is browned and crunchy. The nachos are great too. All in all, it's fair to say Gilberts does a lot, and they do it well. If I have one knock on them, it can be inconsistent service. Depending on the server you get, you could be waiting a while for a drink refill, or to even get your order in. The parking lot was packed so I was expecting a long wait...the place is so much bigger that we only waited 15 minutes. The only thing I would change...the channels. I wanted michigan game and was forced to watch michigan state football. It was worth it. My hamburger was cooked to order and delicious. My friend said his was good too; however, he wanted more bacon...doesn't everone?? The bar is another story...I think the bartender was new because my drink was warm with little ice. Ah the east side hangout made locally famous when former dishwasher/bus boy Marshall Mathers became a rap star. Nice patio, really good pizza, cozy bar with an up north lodge vibe and good service. The patio has some fire pits. Live bands and lots of tvs to Watch sports. They have some Michigan craft beers and some others from around the country. I'd love it if they added a regional porter and I don't doubt with the breweries popping up in the neighborhood they'll be expanding craft beer offerings. Nice mix of friendly people, different ages, regulars and folks from the neighborhood. Gilbert's probably has the best bar atmosphere of anyplace in the shores including the marina bars. I only wish they would turn off the large TV that is behind the bands when they are playing or remove it totally would be even better. There are plenty of other TVs and it is distracting. The bands I've heard there are great and hold peoples attention. It kinda clogs up the mojo for those of us that come to hear music. read more

This place was an average restaurant to me nothing stood out other than maybe they do buffalo meat which was kind of cool I wish they kind of promote a little bit more when your server comes up to the table. The inside was just pretty much a basic restaurant with nothing that popped out to me that said oh I need to come back to this place every time. That's how I felt with the food also it wasn't really much of a side menu for let's grab a few sides you know with my food other than onion rings and fries nothing serious which kinda off put the situation.
