Came here for Friday through Sunday with about 30 people. We got 7 camp sites and all were on the river. The other side of the river was a rock face so the sun sets earlier because of it. The weekend included a a pair of tubes for each person (got have one for the cooler). I thought going down 2-3 miles on the river would have been fast, but it took a good 6 hours. Three stops to get out and catch the short bus (short school bus) back to camp. Most got out at second stop (where food and more booze was for sale), while a third continued to the end. I am burned, but it was great. Check in they get you to sign a release and give you a wrist band to wear the entire weekend and parking pass. Not a lot of spaces by the camp site, but can unload near and then park car. They have ice and fire wood, but both are double the price in town (recommend stopping at gas station prior to arrival). Fire pits, grills for cooking and enjoying. There is grass so the ground is not too hard, but i recommend a tarp under the tent. Grass was freshly cut and a lot is still on the bottom of my tent. Great weekend, recommend the place. Noise was greater on Friday, but dies down around 11:30-1am. Saturday not too load mostly the strongest who survived the river not totally drunk. read more

Being from the South Mississippi I understand hospitality and now living in Southern California I understand getting quality for what you pay for. This place had neither hospitality nor quality. The $350 per night cabin we stayed in, was covered in cobwebs and spiders. Some of the members of our group were even bitten by spiders in the middle of the night. The sheets were dirty and even the hand soap had started to turn colors and looked like it was out of the river. We spent 4 nights there in these conditions, and on the last night we were enjoying ourselves outside. The owner showed up saying we were too loud and we agreed to quiet down. A few minutes later the cops showed up and told us we had to go inside. Really???? We agreed to quiet down and a simple request from management was all that was needed. The next morning the cleaning staff showed up and began to talk condescendingly to us. Saying things like, "How old are y'all," and "Y'all should grow up." Then they told us to "Chop, chop" and clean the dishes. Most places I have stayed in had a check out time of 12:00. This place was 11:00. We were not informed of this when we arrived. The management then threatened to call the police again if we didn't vacate the premises. This was at 11:15. While standing on the porch of the cabin, the cleaning staff took all of our things and threw them onto the porch and locked the door. Mind you, we would have cleaned up what they asked us for if they wouldn't have thrown us out before it could be done. I am a well traveled individual and have stayed in many places both here in the States and Overseas. I have NEVER experienced such poor service, unclean facilities, and rude behavior in my life. For the cost of this place per night one would expect a 5 star hotel and service. You all should make your own decisions, however, I will tell you that I will never stay anywhere near this place again. read more

Came with a small group to camp/float the river Sunday-Tuesday. We arrived in the afternoon and the staff was friendly and helpful. They let us choose out campsite and we decides to relax that afternoon and float the next day. There are a couple little stores around, but we wished we had brought some food with us instead of making the trip out to the grocery store. It was only three mikes away but with a 20 mph speed limit it can take a while. We uses both the grill and the fire pit. The next day we went to float the river. We decoded on the five hour float and they took us up the river a few miles. Its definitely a leisurely float, but a lot of fun. They threw in a tube for our cooler of beer/booze and we relaxed and drank for the whole trip down the river. Word to the wise - put on sunscreen BEFORE you get onto the water, its hard to reapply on the tubes! We had to walk a bit when the water got too shallow, but this only happened once near the end. Our float ended at Gilligan's so we just had to pull our tubes out and leave them on the shore. Being a weeknight it wasn't crowded at all. The weekends I'm sure are a very different experience. We enjoyed our time here though, with the friendly staff and good prices. Just make sure to bring shoes if you want to shower! They're a little primitive. read more

Camped here as a group of four. We had our own tent and set up in one of the spots about 50 feet from the river. Some spots have picnic tables, as we did. Some have a built in grills, which we didn't, but neighbors are glad to share. This was a slower weekend so it was pretty quiet. We opted for the longest tube rides (4 hours). This worked out perfect as the camp site is the half-way point so you can pull in and have lunch at your site. We took our time and it lasted about 8 hours. The staff were all very nice and helpful. We are pretty low-maintenance, had plenty of beer, so no complaints. The bathrooms and showers could use some sprucing up, but hey, it's camping. Oh, and raccoons will come visit your trash each night as they appear to be the welcoming committee. I would come back and camp at this place any time. Excellent views, right by the river, friendly people, good times. read more

We tried this place for a girls weekend for floating. Pros were staff was attentive and always available when we needed something and staff came around to clean up the property and empty outside trash cans. The property was clean and there was river access on the property. Other guests were friendly as well and we had no problems with rowdy neighbors. CONS. The cabins are furnished with old garage sale type furnishings. Shower curtain and sheets were old and the couch and hideabed were old and uncomfortable. The room needed some updates and attention but most importantly, I woke up seeing a roach on the ceiling over me. And obviously he had friends with him because that wasn't the only one I saw. I get that this is a river cabin but I still expect a clean room and won't be back to this property again. read more

Very disappointed with management and staff. They obviously don't know how to run a business!! Just a bunch of lazy hicks that don't know what respect or common curtesy is! I would give them a zero if I could on here!!! Were very rude when we arrived didn't have a smile on their face once! We ended up having one extra person who was a 9 years old child who they turned away after the child and their parents drove 5 hours! So they ended up having to go back to Fort Worth. When we went to talk to the management to try and even with them in a mannerly way they ended up calling one of the WOMEN in our group a "bitch" and were the rudest people to deal with after paying $1300 to stay at the dump!! To add to the management being awful the cabin we stayed in Island Escape should have been called Shit Hole Escape. The sheets in each of the rooms felt dirty, the floors were disgusting, didn't provide us with enough toilet paper or paper towels!!!! We will never return there and will only have bad things to say in the future!!! read more

Love this place and love the owners. Great to work with and accommodating. Easy to reach. Great sites right on the water. All the campsites are roughly the same size so you know you wont get screwed like some other places. If you are a fancy shmancy person then you shouldn't be going anywhere on this river. Go up to Possum Kingdom or something. If you want to party, make new friends in a relaxed atmosphere then stay here. If not, rent your own cabin away from the rest of us! read more

Had a Blast. Brought the Tents, it Rained all day and night for 4 days. I love this kinda stuff. If you're going camping get dirty get near a river and bring some beer. We saw some crybabies complaining the whole time and me and my band of 20 brothers laughed at how sad some people don't know how to enjoy the little things. We fished, and relaxed like champs. The owners were really cool and checked up on us to see if we needed anything. To the people complaining, you need to speak and get to know people in the country for them to acknowledge you. I don't ever write reviews unless my experience is wonderful. I'd rather share the positive than hurt people's businesses with negative reviews, and I usually feel that even if my experience is less than exceptional it is not bad enough to warn others off. However, my experience with Gilligan's Island has been frustrating and humiliating in the extreme. I called the office after doing a lot of research on cabin camping along the Guadalupe. My mother has wanted to go camping and tubing with our whole family for years and as a special gift for her 67th birthday, I wanted to surprise her by organizing a trip to New Braunsfels. The staff was extremely rude and unhelpful every time I called. They answered the phone with, "Gilligan's Island, may I help you?" and then refused to reserve a cabin for me, saying they were closed and would open the next day. I called back the next day (Monday), but couldn't get a hold of anyone. On Tuesday, I called back and again they answered the phone with, "Gilligan's Island, may I help you?" I asked to reserve a cabin and they said they were closed for the week and would re-open on Friday. I was confused as to why they even answered the phones if they were closed, and since the days we wanted to reserve the cabins were during the week, I wanted to make sure they would be open. When I asked, they were incredibly rude, insisting they were "closed and they had every right to be closed because no one was there anyway and they had to get their kids ready for school." They told me to call back when they opened on Friday. I called back Friday morning and asked to reserve the same cabin I had been asking to reserve the entire week. They said it had been rented out on Monday. I explained that I had called and had, in fact, spoken to the owner I was currently on the phone with. No where on their website did it say they were closed earlier in the week, and it also showed that the cabin I wanted to reserve was empty the days we wanted to use it. They said they hadn't updated their calendar from earlier in the week, and if it was that important to me, I should have called on Monday. I can't remember a time I have been more frustrated or insulted. read more

This was our 4th year staying there... price-location in my opinion on spot. Close the water and the cabins are rustic-it's always been quiet when we've stayed there. For $ on the river it's my go to place. Friendly staff and they keep the park clean read more

The campsite itself was well maintained with electricity, right off the water. During a busy weekend parking could be limited near your site. The staff was nice but you must pay with cash or check making it inconvenient for any rentals or purchases such as ice on the property. The restroom and shower facilities definitely need to be updated. (The pictures on the previous review were very accurate) There were Porta-Potties available that were certainly serviced and sanitized more then the restrooms. read more

Gilligan's Island is located in a great spot for tubing and for relaxing before and after. I didn't expect our cabin to be the Ritz, but the bedding, floors, counters and furniture were clean. My group was quiet, but we were not disturbed by other campers who were enjoying themselves. The cabin featured comfortable indoor seating in the air conditioning, as well as good outdoor dining areas with a grill for cooking out. When we were going into or out of the river, staff provided a bus to quickly take us to our next tubing in-put or back to Gilligan's Island. GI is a fun and convenient place on the river, but their competent and caring staff made our tubing experience quite pleasant indeed. The good-humored drivers made the experience all the more enjoyable. I look forward to my next visit to Gilligan's Island. read more

We unanimously voted to rate this with 0 stars, if that were an option! We got our hands dirty just touching things around the place - the housekeepers obviously aren't keeping up with the cabin needs. We were rushed out rudely by them - they came without any cleaning supplies or disinfectants complaining, giving demands, and tossing our things out the door as they slammed and locked it behind us. The real reason they were mad was because we had fun the night before - too much fun in their opinion because they called the police on us. We had 8 people playing cards and dominoes listening to music on the back porch. The owner came to warn us & not 5 minutes later after we lowered the music, 2 sherriff vehicles drove up to usher us inside. Besides the poor hospitality, the cabin: The tiny shower is in the only bathroom in a cabin for 12. There are limited resources - e.g. we ran out of toilet paper, had a hard time cooking because of few pans, etc. This is simply ridiculous for paying $350 a night. read more
