We had an amazing time. We picked a time that we thought would not be that busy and we were on point! We arrived on Memorial Day and stayed 2 nights. There were maybe a handful of overnighters there and we were spread out so no one was in each other's face. We stayed in one of the glamping tents and they are very close to each other. So, please consider this and don't complain if you are going mid summer. The bathrooms were kept clean (again, b/c we did not share it with many people--if any). STAFF: super friendly and helpful. There are always people riding around, so you don't have to walk to the front every time you have a question. They are easy to spot, as they wear light bright blue shirts. Whenever I waived them down, they stopped, got off their carts to talk to us (such a small but respectful gesture). The float down the river was a bit long, but they do tell you this-about 2.5 hours and less if you kayak. It's worth doing both, I think. We were a family of 3, 2 adults and a 5 year old. My little one LOVED it. Depending on what end you stay, some have calm water and some have steady streams, so also be ready for this if you have little ones. The glamping tent has: beds with sheets and pillows. Towels and rags. Lights inside and out. Plenty of electric plus inside and outside. Fridge, microwave, TV, electric fireplace, AC (that works very well), a 2 burner electric cooktop, and then outside is exactly like the pictures show with the picnic table, hammock and fire pit. Running water also on the tent outside. Bathrooms and showers, just a short walk behind the tents. There is no camp store, but they do sell some things (wood, lighter, ice and other misc things), that you are also able to get after hours. Bring cash b/c that's the easier way to get them vs having to call the #, pay with your card and then wait for the people to bring you stuff. Bring your own soap, shampoo and all that jazz. We will definitely return (off season). read more

THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY AND BLAME THEIR OWN COMPUTER BUGS. AVOID! This campground has a severe issue with double-booking and predatory billing. They messed up our check-in, gave away our reserved tent #26, and moved us to tent #13. We checked out early, nearly an hour before the 11:00 AM deadline. Yet, they slapped us with a wrongful $104.46 "late fee" simply because their office failed to update our room transfer in their system. When we called to get our money back and offered to send bank timestamps proving we were already miles away on the highway, the staff was hostile. They told us they have "too many people asking for refunds" and tried to force us to sign a waiver just to get our money back. Completely unprofessional and shady behavior. We had to escalate this to a bank chargeback. Stay away! read more

Our family rented a cabana for the day and grilled, hung out and went tubing. What a cool place! It felt like being at a tropical resort- but just an hour from Austin. The glamping tents look really nice and spacious- that's next on our bucket list. read more

Saw a lot of reviews telling both sides of this venue. Personally, I really enjoyed the cabanas and the location. We got a deal on Mothers' Day and it was well worth it. Even without the discount, we would go again. Trigger warning: However, the state of the bathrooms is atrocious. Literal piles feces and feminine hygiene products coming out of the basin of the Porto-John. Son's River Ranch is everything we expected to be. If you decide to go "glamping" here be sure to plan ahead and pack all the necessities! If you are well prepared and come with low expectations then you will truly have a memorable experience especially if you have little ones. I wouldn't suggest the tents if you are staying overnight. They are so tiny. It is much worth it to get the glampjng cabins and have all the extras included like the coffee maker, TV, and cookware. The tents didn't have any of that. The least favorite part of our stay were the bathrooms. There are public outdoor bathrooms with showers, sinks and toilets but a lot of them were gross and dirty. Next time I would stay at a cabin that includes a bathroom. If they weren't so dirty I would've stayed another night. The best part of our trip was of course hanging out and swimming on the river. The water is shallow and not too dangerously deep for our youngest. Lots of people, music and overall good vibes! Bring lots of food to grill and rent a canopy for the day! When I was younger I had the energy to load up a tent and chairs then search for the perfect spot on the river. Now with work and kids it's much easier to find someone that does all of that work for you. Are there cheaper ways to enjoy the river? Yes, but if you just want a seamless day with a perfect spot on the river ready for you then Son's has it covered. Son's has tented tables right on the river, cabanas a little more set back, and glamping tents if staying the night. Each table or cabana has a grill. They have canoes and tubes for rental, and a convenient shuttle that takes you back to the ranch. There is only one gas station about ten minutes away so bring plenty of food, drinks, snacks, charcoal and a lighter. From San Antonio or Austin it's easier to take toll 130 to highway 80. It only took around an hour from SA. Even if you just have a few hours it's nice to get outside and enjoy the river. read more

Okay so, I wanted to go camping for my birthday!!! & I heard about sons river ranch. On the way to the campsite you feel like you're going the wrong way . Then you see the little wooden sign and it's a rocky road leading to the check-in area. Along that road is a cotton field like a huge cotton field!! Check in is super simple you get your access code and head down to your tent or cabin. The cabin has fridge, tv, DVD player, AC, mini fireplace, pots pans, hot pot & coffee makers . Literally everything you need. On the outside is a sitting area on the porch you have your own hammock, picnic table and fire pit. The cabins are pretty spread out so you're not too close too your neighbors. The river front is soo beautiful, it's low enough to sit in a chair and or for a nice little swim ‍ while you grill some food at your rental cabana. Friday mornings get packed pretty quickly so you want to make sure you reserve you spot early. You definitely want to make your you bring water shoes . The water shoes are a must have!! Also if you forget fire wood, charcoal, lighter fluid or water shoes they have it on all on site. & the H-E-B is only 13 minutes away read more

We drove all the way from houston to come visit. The kids were very skeptical about going to the river. Once they got there they quickly grabbed the tubs and dashed to the river. We rented a cabana and brought some things for hamburgers and hotdogs I definitely recommend sun block The river was kind of low in some areas and moving kind of slow in others. I'll start out with the positive, tubing down River was Fun. We had a great time and the staff were friendly. Negative is legit, everything else. The bathrooms are beyond horrible unless you enjoy building a mountain high Human Poop pyramid! Every Stall and bathroom, I wish I was kidding. I can only speak on the bell tent, but they claim it has an AC. Well it did. Only thing is it blew hot air. And since it was 107 degrees out, I called the front office. I was told bell tents stay hot. I'll give them credit they sent someone to check on the unit. By the time he made any statement I booked a hotel and packed my stuff up because the wife looked at me and said. Even if it's fixed the girls have to use the bathroom and they are scared to poop on all that poop and shower next to that poop. So with that said. Go tubing and Leave. One star because though I enjoyed the Tubing. God built the river and provided the water. They gave me a tube for $25 which is insane in itself. And did I mention. I get it, more bodies, more profit, but listening to 6 different radio/music choices and not being able to get to the water without tripping over someone felt 3rd world. The restrooms & showers were gross. Maybe they need to have them clean more often or people need to learn to clean after themselves. There was no wifi signal. We've used Sons River Ranch multiple times over the past 2 years had have over all had a great experience with them! We usually rent a cabana for the day and bring out own tubes to float the river but they have the option to rent tubes and rides on their vans to get back to base if you're a newbie. We usually leave our stuff like ice chests, beach bags and nonvaluables out in the cabana and have never had issues with theft bc they do have staff that walk around check on you which is nice. I definitely recommend this place to friends every year and will continue to return! read more

We rented the tent plus cabana for the long weekend and it was comfortable enough for a camping experience. It has electricity, fan, furniture and the bathrooms access was good and neat too. We rented tubing as part of the day activity - that was a little tough for us and wouldn't recommend as much especially for first timers - it's long - took us almost 3 hours and the water is really bad. But overall a good experience in terms a weekend getaway. read more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. THERE ARE BETTER ALTERNATIVES ON AIRBNB FOR THE SAME PRICE) This place gave the cabin I had reserved to someone else and refused to provide me a refund. When I arrived I found another family's items in my cabin. The family was no where to be found. We called the reservation office several times and got no answer. We had to search for staff members. When we finally found them, they placed us in another cabin that would be occupied the next day and promised to remove the current occupants when they returned. In the meantime, I learned through conversation that the cabin next to our cabin was occupied by someone that had not reserved it as well. He told me he called the reservation office and they gave him the access code of a cabin he had not reserved. Clearly, this is a normal occurrence. Don't spend your time and money here. It's been days and they still refuse to acknowledge fault and properly compensate me for the inconvenience. (Since writing this review , they've proven my point by continuing to argue with me in response. They offered to extend my stay passed the time my schedule allowed and free tubing ($30). Then they offered me $13.06. There are much nicer places for glamping in Texas. Don't make the mistake I did.) read more

it was great me and my boys stayed in the Safari tent and it was amazing. The beds were nice and soft. We went down the whole river. It was over two hours of wilderness. It was fun though, but you want to use a kayak do not use the tubes(it helps) but overall we enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much we will be returning with the whole family soon. read more

The cabin was so hot even after 7 hours with the a/c on high we just left. it was 7:30 at night after a long day on the river. I had to either head home (2 hour drive) or argue with someone. I left and of course they provided no refund. I would never stay there again. it was not an a/c space. after a day outside we just wanted to cool off. horrible. read more

To start, this place is beautiful. The scenery and sounds all around are extremely peaceful. Tubing costs $30 each person but was unlimited and also included the kayaking. The float was about 2 hours long which is really nice. The water is smooth and safe. There is lots of shade and hammocks, tables and chairs, and grills all around. We rented a cabana for the day and it was two floors and had everything we needed. The ONLY disappointments were how dirty and uncomfortable the showers!! And also some tents near us had very loud music on late at night... would've been nice if they had a time that everyone must keep noise levels down. Multiple staff members at the door couldn't find our reservation. We had it pulled up on our phone but that wasn't good enough for entry. They wasted a lot our paid time looking for it on their phones, and calling the office for help. The river was completely blocked at many areas, with dozens of tents planted right down the middle of the river, that people had brought in. Not on the side. It looked like a shanty town in the middle of the river. You couldn't even see down river at all. Not a beautiful view of the river you let people do this. read more

out of all the restroom/showers they had only 1 had a working door that would shut. We had to have someone hold the door closed every time we had to shower or go to the restroom and sit out there to make sure no one came in. One of the kids we had with us did get walked in on. They are filthy on top of that. After the crew came in to clean i went in and there were pubic hair all in the shower and it was still filthy. They basically just emptied the trash. We go to leave and take the linens of the bed and one of the matress cover had 2 big blood stains on it. Absolutely filthy and not to mention biohazard. Keep an eye on your teenage daughters too! The guys riding the golf carts need to learn how to keep their eyes in front of them and not Faulk over my 15 year old! wont be back at all! read more

I rented a riverside cabana for my 30th birthday with a group of friends. When we arrived to the site we had to wait in a line (no surprise there as it was a gorgeous day) where I thought they were checking everyone's waivers (I received multiple emails stating how important it was everyone have it filled out beforehand). Nope. The check in was just to ask what we had a reservation for - which we told the guy we had a cabana and he asked us multiple times if we were at the right location(almost in a rude way). Kind of confused because I was sure to double check we went to the right place (there are two sister campsites). When we were finally told where to go...we drove over to our cabana and parked our car in front of it - because everyone else around us did the same and so we could unload our car. Shortly after doing so a staff member came around and told us that we had to move our car because parking wasn't allowed (even though on the website it says each cabana is allowed two parking spaces). So we moved our cars and started enjoying our time there. It was beautiful spot with plenty of things to do..HOWEVER, not long after being told we had to move our cars people that had arrived late for cabana rentals parked their vehicles in front of OURS. And they were never told to move. Very annoying that the people that couldn't get there on time were the ones who got to park close to the cabanas. Overall - would I come here again? Absolutely. But I think there are some logistics that need to be worked out and if you're going to tell people to move you need to be consistent, not pick & choose who gets to move or stay. read more

I really liked Son's River Ranch as it's spacious with room to roam. One of the best parts - for me - is that you can rent one of their awesome duckie kayaks and do downriver runs all day long.
