    Gill's Selfie!

I'm just a humble west coast gal, and when someone told me I had to go to Gill's I was a little dismissive. It's only a sandwich place I thought to myself. That was the furthest from the truth. A huge line of people was my first indication that maybe there was more to this little spot. There were 5 grinder makers and I patiently waited as I scoped out the menu. I ordered a large hot Italian with oil, grabbed a cookie and I was on my way. I felt very primal as I devoured this grinder that probably could have been split into two meals but I couldn't stop. I'm now a grinder enthusiast and Gills is my supplier.

GREAT sandwich shop with very friendly staff! There were ~10 employees and each one of them was needed. This joint was boooooming at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon after a long day of shredding. Found this stop as a couple people recommend this joint so we had to stop by. We ordered a large ham and salami combo and a mini x. They LOAD these sandwiches up! Each of our sandwiches came with meat, cheese, we subbed lettuce for cabbage, onions, banana peppers, pickles, tomatoes, mayo, olive oil, and S&P. The end result? A delicious lunch. When they first pull out the bread the sandwich looks like it'll be tiny but they PACKKKK it, so don't fret. Would definitely tell anyone to stop by this place if you're looking for a filling/tasty 'wich.

Amazing Deli, everything was awesome. Staff was super friendly and helpful! Meats were all good, would 100% recommend.

The staff here is extremely hard working and efficient. There was a line of at least 20 people at all times. I arrived before 2 and checked out at 2:30. Everyone was patient. A CASH ONLY sign greets you on the front door so take notice. The portions are very large as advertised. I ordered a large roast beef and a large Pastrami grinder. Unfortunately I found the bread to be dry. The usual ingredients topping are ample and it's amazing how they keep them from falling off. The sandwich is stacked high. There's also a large selection of sides and salads, chips and drinks. Hats off to the staff. I hope the owner is rewarding them.

I have been eating at Gills Deli in Rutland since I was a child - in fact my parents have been eating there since they were teenagers! It is an absolute staple of southern Vermont. They have some of the best grinders I'll ever have. The location is conveniently located in the city of Rutland. There is street parking, but it can get busy at lunch, so it can be tough to find spots at those times. There is a good amount of indoor seating, and the decor is classic deli style with a lot of charm. I normally order the large veggie grinder with cheese, extra cabbage, olives, pickled peppers, mayo and olive oil. There are multiple sandwich size options - I always go for the large or extra large and just ask them to cut it in sections. I've probably had over 30 Gill's grinders, and they are always delicious! They also have very good pasta salads and cole slaw (pictured) and plenty of drink options in the fridge section. The staff at Gills are also beyond amazing - incredibly friendly personalities that create a welcoming atmosphere. Overall, I cannot recommend Gill's enough! It is an absolute gem. Perfect lunch spot. Pro tip - call ahead and place your order for pickup - they are always packed with orders and lines at lunch (not surprising given how amazing they are!)

Consistency like this is rare, and it says everything about the standards they keep. I started with the Pomegranate Granita Oysters, and wow. Bright, refreshing, unbelievably fresh, and balanced perfectly. They were the kind of oysters you slow down for because you don't want the bite to end. I ordered the duck ragu again because I couldn't stop thinking about it from my last visit -- and once again, absolute perfection. Rich, comforting, layered with flavor, and yes... I cleaned the plate spotless. Not a drop left behind. From the hospitality to the execution of every dish, everything about this restaurant screams class, quality, and a superb dining experience. The team makes you feel welcome, the food exceeds expectations, and you leave already planning your next reservation. Manchester is lucky to have a place like this.

It's very new agey and different for the sake of being different. But, the pasta was delicious and high quality! The place has a major attitude problem, though. The aesthetics are off-putting and attract a crowd of the worst types of people. Had to listen to nothing but whiny spite and anger my entire meal from multiple groups of guests. The waiter was the worst aspect, though. I didn't even know he worked there when he approached me. He was dressed down more than a lot of homeless people I've seen. He also shared that same attitude of the guests and made my business feel like an inconvenience the entire time, having the nerve to expect a tip for bringing my food out to me, which I would have just done myself to avoid him. I can recommend carryout, if you absolutely have to have some pasta in this area, but not eating in, and don't get anything that seems weird on the menu. If there were more (that weren't pizzerias), then I didn't see them. Looking at the menu and knowing my kids' tastes (12 and 9), Nonna's was right up their alley. From the minute we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and a welcoming introduction. Everyone was so kind and welcoming. It was a quiet and cozy restaurant, with impeccable service from beginning to end. The fresh bread, butter, and garlic with olive oil started off our meal. We followed it up with fried provolone, a chunk of breaded and fried provolone melted to a gooey temperature on a bed of red sauce and served with crostini. I don't know what the green dollop on it was, but I assumed it was something like pesto (possibly). This is where I first tasted the house-made red sauce. It is seriously a wonderful sauce--thick and hearty, robust with intense flavor. We devoured it within minutes. My kids wanted pasta, and at $9 for a gigantic plate with a huge Italian meatball, you can't beat it. My daughter said it was the second-best spaghetti she's ever had in her life. It came with the red sauce that was featured in the fried provolone. I agreed it was one of the best, and it was 100% the sauce. My Chicken Piccata was superb. It had all the flavors I was looking for--savory, delicious, tender slices of chicken with fresh veggies in a light and tangy lemon-white wine sauce. There were absolutely no leftovers when all was said and done. This is one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever had the pleasure of dining at. Run, don't walk when it comes to visiting Nonna's.
