I came into town late on a Thursday night. I looked at the map and saw this restaurant. Ironically, there's a very well-known restaurant with the same name where I live, so I knew I had to try it. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted. I requested to sit at the bar and the host walked me to the bar. The bartender was kind and attentive. At the bar, you can order from the bar bites menu and/or you can order from the regular menu. They provide roasted garlic and a warm baguette to start your meal. For dinner, I order a house salad and two bar bites, the caprese and artichoke dip. The lettuce in the salad was so fresh and it was really filling. The star was the artichoke dip. It had hints of sun dried tomatoes and it was incredible. If you're in town, I highly recommend The Garlic! read more

This is my new favorite restaurant in Vermont! They started us off with complimentary French bread and a roasted bulb of garlic that you smash and mix in some olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper, and crushed pepper flakes. We got the mussels which were the highlight of the meal for me. The white wine sauce was so delicious, there's something I couldn't put my finger on, but it set it apart from others I've had. In all honesty, the entrees were just normal Italian food, it was good but nothing earth shattering. The reason this place is a 10/10 is because of the mussels, it's so good! read more

We stayed at Aprés Inn, which is a 2-minute walk to The Garlic. We took heed of the advice to get there before doors open at 5pm. We were first on line at 4:45 and by 4:55 there were several folks waiting behind us. We got a wonderful booth and were immediately served. Atmosphere is cozy and like being in a grotto. The fresh bread with roasted whole garlic, Parmesan and olive oil was so good and they brought us a second baguette as we had mussels and spinach Italiano to start. Good selection of beverages - local brews on draft. The kid's menu has a choice between a pasta dish - linguine or penne with marinara, butter or puttanesca - with meat balls as an add on. It is a lot of food for a kid and we brought back leftovers. My husband enjoyed his ahi tuna with potatoes and roasted tomato. My chicken piccata was perfectly cooked and flavorful with the capers. We were full, but could not resist ordering the tiramisu. The tiramisu was light and not overly sweet with drizzle of chocolate, lady fingers with a dash of espresso. 0 stars!!!!!! Had a really awful experience here. I was in Vermont for the weekend with friends and we stopped in to grab drinks at the bar. There were a good amount of us, and if there truly wasn't room for standing, the staff could've just said so but they let us walk up & order. As we were approaching the bar, the bartender yelled, "The Pickle Barrel assholes are here." We were completely confused and caught off guard, especially since we didn't even come from that bar but besides that, what an insanely rude way to speak to customers?!?!? We still ordered drinks, probably around 10 total which was a good amount of money spent. While we were standing there, a server rudely told us we were in the way without saying excuse me or showing any basic customer service. Saying things like "are you going to move this time" as she passes and being extremely rude to all of us, meanwhile we all were enjoying ourselves. She then started yelling and going back and forth with one of my friends, and to make matters worse, she grabbed his drink out of his hand, causing it to spill all over!!! I still smell like garlic a week later after stepping foot in here (this is a good thing in my eyes). If you don't know about the restaurant scene in Killington, there are just a handful of places, especially for families. This place opens at 5pm but ppl stared lining up at 4:30 so get there early to avoid a long wait (an hour wait is normal). Our party of eight was able to be seated on our second try since we waited before the door opened. For starter they offered the warm bread with roasted garlic spread, which they are known for. Appetizers are no surprise and nothing spectacular. I saw many ppl opt for the clams. We liked the fried cheese, had better calamari so skip, instead get one of their salad. Entrée portion were smaller than I remembered, nonetheless they were delicious and the pasta were fulfilling. no need to get the desert here just grab some Ben & Jerry cherry Garcia. read more

The Killington area doesn't have many options for restaurants so there are longer waits but we were lucky to be sat within the hour. This place is insane from start to finish. The bread with garlic spread set the stage for one of the best meals I've ever had. Entrees are incredibly generous portion but the best part of the almost intoxicating smell you're greeted with when walking in, if not in the parking lot itself. This place was so fun to eat at! Everything is decorated garlic and the food was tasty. We got the bread and garlic (you literally get garlic cloves and squeeze it on to make your own garlic bread) and it was so yummy! I got the scallop and shrimp scampi which was so so good. From the moment we walked in the door, the aroma of garlic hit my nostrils and there was only more garlic from there! And I'm not mad about it! We arrived at 5:10 on a Saturday night during ski season and holy cow this place was already super busy with a line out the door. It took them some time to get everyone seated but the process was friendly and fair. We ended up sitting in the bar area. Our server was super attentive and fast! We got the eggplant tower (AMAZING fried eggplant with spinach leaves, tomato and balsamic glaze), escargot en croute (which were like little bombs of garlic flavor) and a chicken Marsala which came with the most perfectly garlic mashed potatoes. Oh and also the roasted garlic and baguette was a great starter. Basically it lived up to my very high garlic standards and we loved it. I'll definitely come back! read more

We went there last night with a couple of local friends (we're visiting the area from NYC). It was very busy but it wasn't loud and the service was excellent. We ordered some tapas for the table and also two main dishes. I especially loved the lamb chops tapas, but everything was great. The cocktails were great too -- I had one that sounded really weird (bourbon, bitters, and kahlua) but was outstanding! This place is....confusing. It claims to be a tapas and martini bar but it seemed more like a weird old school Italian place. I wouldn't call anything on the menu "tapas" per se. The place is dimly lit with braided garlic hanging from all the walls and weird wax drip sculptures here and there? They start you off with French bread with whole heads of roasted garlic. While the idea is decent, the execution could be improved. Roasted garlic served in the paper with no salt just isn't the best flavor-wise. I tried the shrimp and scallop scampi but asked for penne instead of linguine. The first time they brought it with linguine, but pretty quickly replaced it with penne at my request. It seriously lacked salt and was overall bland. There were abut 6 medium shrimp (cooked well) and 3 bay scallops (no sear, just poached and on the small side). Other people in our group got the eggplant parm (which they reported was very good), chicken parm (reported it was decent), linguine with clam sauce (they liked it) and the kids ordered penne with butter and meatballs (but it came with linguine instead). So basically 4 out 9 orders had the wrong pasta and even when I asked the waiter to fix mine, it didn't click to him that the 3 kids didn't get the penne they ordered. read more

Love "The Garlic" for its dark moody ambience. It's a great spot to relax after a day on the slopes. We had a great dining experience on a Tuesday night - entrees such as grilled lamb, Chicken Florentine, and the Penne a la Vodka were all delicious and on-point. The special house red wine - an Italian - was outstanding! The service was a bit on the casual side, but still professional. We decided to return the following evening for dinner, but unfortunately Garlic's encore performance didn't hit the right notes. The service was lackadaisical, and some of the food came out cold and/or undercooked. We'll likely give The Garlic another try for our 2025 Vermont vacation. read more

AVOID sitting at the bar unless you want to be insulted, yelled at and ignored by Bloomer the bartender! This old bartender has a huge chip on his shoulders and attitude it ruined what was a very nice evening. We hadn't been to the Garlic in a while but decided to stop in for a drink and appetizers. The seating was tough but we found 2 bar stools and since there were 3 of us, we were waiting for another chair to open up. Bloomer didn't like the fact that we had just arrived, trying to figure the seating out, with no help from him, he started barking at us to move - we couldn't stand there, the waitress can't get by. That was all in the first 3 minutes of us arriving! Everyone heard what he said to us. He was so rude that we didn't order any food. Matter of fact we almost left immediately and probably should have. Then just a moment later he was so nice, chatting up the couple next to us (regulars). We ordered our drinks (expensive) and left but won't return until this jerk is gone. Why would the Garlic keep him employed if he is rude to everyone? He isn't a good bartendar - he is old, cranky and I've talked to several friends who also won't go here either having similiar or worse experiences. The Garlic is losing customers. There are many other places to go at Killington - this isn't one of them. We had a lovely time at Rosemary's @McGraths and the bartender there was super nice! We usually have good service at Sushi Yoshi too. But this guy Bloomer is horrible - a Killington local that shouldn't be customer facing at all - matter of fact - it is time for him to retire!!! read more

Wasn't a busy night or anything, the food just is more generic Italian than it is with what you'd find in New York or Boston or Chicago or other cities that have really excellent Italian restaurants. The tomato sauce was more chopped up tomatoes with a little bit of herbs and spices, but was not extremely complimentary at all to the meal. Will we be back - probably not. Maybe we're just spoiled with having eaten our whole lives in CT, NY, MA and Chicago Italian restaurants. One of the better options in Killington. Been many years so I'm happy to be back, both in Killington and The Garlic. They still serve up bread with a few bunches of roasted garlic. Mash it up with some olive oil and go to town. They're quite busy so we had time to pick up groceries and come back before we got our table. Definitely be prepared to wait on Friday and Saturday. Food and drinks are quite reasonable. Large portions, decent flavors. Nothing special but no real failures. Service is friendly but pacing is slow. Again, no issues with that as long as they don't try to rush you out, and it's fine here. read more

Went here for dinner tonight .... I thought the food was average at best . The eggplant "tower" we ordered for an app was a total loser . Hardly any eggplant and all spinach . I'm still looking for the "tower " which was more like a one story building . We were a party of 6 ... everyone's entree was luke warm . Quality and well run Italian restaurants serve their food piping hot . On a cold Vermont night , that is paramount.. serve your food HOT not Luke warm . Solid four stars. The Garlic caters more to a tourist crowd, and the food and atmosphere definitely fits that bill. We came in mid-week and there was about a 30 min wait. We got a table in the bar while we waiting and the bartender there was pretty attentive. We got a bottle of wine and were able to transfer it to the table. One of the trademarks here is that they bring a roasted garlic out to the table which you can churn into a butter for your bread. It was good. The menu has more of an Italian fare. I ordered the Chicken Piccata which was cut up over linguini, which is an unusual take on this dish. It was fine. Service was good, but a bit rushed. They seem to make an effort to get you out of there and turn the tables. read more

Food as a base is solid. You should not get a bad meal. Sometimes the entree's are great. Always enjoyable and if there's only two of us we enjoy eating at the bar. I eat at Garlic 2-3 times a year. Don't fill up on the roasted garlic and bread. I generally bring 1/2 my entree and garlic breath home. read more
