Truthfully, I really wanted to love this place because Gina seemed like such a sweet and kind lady. I love to support local mom and pop shops so I was not going to leave a negative review even though I was unhappy with the results until my nail broke. I cannot in good conscience recommend this place if you were looking for an acrylic set. I am from California and have gotten my nails done for years, but I've never had an acrylic nail completely crack in half and bleed on me after 9 DAYS. My pinky nail literally cracked and started to gush blood while I was driving to work-- I did not hit myself or do anything physical. It stung so badly all day and I ended up paying for another nail tech near me to have the set completely removed. I am quite disappointed with the results considering this set was $85 ($96 post tip) and didn't even last me 2 weeks. Gina tried her best and they don't look terrible, but the cracking and bleeding truly did it for me. -- I came to Gina's salon last Monday to get a full set. I called in around 11AM and an employee was able to schedule me for 2PM same day (which I was very grateful for the last min appt)-- she mentioned Gina was NOT in the shop yet. I arrive a little early since I walked over, 1:40PM and was expecting to wait. However, Gina herself told me she was double booked for 2PM and was working on a different client since she did not realize the girl from the phone double booked her for 2PM. She offered to see me later in the day or wait until she's done. No big deal, they were very kind and let me sit and charge my phone as I waited. I was seen around 2:40PM. But they seemed incredibly understaffed that day, only 2 employees and many clients being turned down. One girl with an appointment actually waited 2 hours while I was seated and I was surprised she waited that long for a pedi. I showed Gina some reference photos for a simple nude/pinkish set with white French tip and she told me she could do it. I asked her if I should try out Gel-X (because I saw her review photos on Yelp) or stick to powder because that's what I usually get. She told me both are good options, also dip was an option she does often. She suggests I do dip. I ended up CHOOSING A FULL SET OF POWDER(applied with a brush) because I heard dip is unhygienic. Then in the middle of our appointment after she glued my tips and filed them, she told me that she's going to do DIP instead because it is what she is comfortable with (and probably faster I assume)-- I was taken back since we already started the process, but I said it fine with me as long as they look good and are durable. At this point I have been there for over 1.5 hours too so I didn't want to wait even longer. Gina assures me that dip is similar to powder, her clients love it, and lasts up to 6-8 weeks. Maybe that should've been my first red flag. I ended up leaving at 4:40PM after nearly 2 hours of work. I didn't realize it at first when I left, but after I looked at my nails more closely, it is obvious that all of the white French tips are uneven. Some nail tips themselves are applied VERY CROOKED such as my middle and index fingers from the pictures. I know my fingers are not cute, but they look even worse and accentuated. The powder was also thick and lumpy in some areas, did not feel smooth and was visibly so under the natural light. I am very disappointed considering that the service I received was amazing-- Gina herself and her staff seemed very nice and accommodating. She did take a lot of time to reapply some of the already crooked tips and took the time to make sure the French tips were dipped to be even (even though the result is still subpar). I hope this review helped someone else because I came into this salon with high expectations seeing the good Yelp reviews. Maybe this was just a bad experience or a difficult case although I feel like I asked for something simple. If you like dip powder/gel/regular polish and want something easy then perhaps this place is for you. read more

Listening to the client and being honest about capabilities. Asked for a gel nail replacement. The woman started a new nail with acrylic. It was applied in a way that the nail was pointing up and crooked. At this point I asked the woman to take it off. She argued that was sitting in a weird way and that she was trying to replicate another's work. She finally agreed to take the nail off and it took more than 20 minutes to accomplish. I would have went somewhere closer to where I o if I would have known ahead of time the actual price. So I was a bit annoyed by that so I prob wouldn't return seeing how they weren't honest with their pricing. read more

Gina and her team were extremely kind throughout my visit... but I thought I'd share my experience. I've never done dip powder before. My tried and true place doesn't offer it, but I thought why not LIVE A LITTLE. Oh my. I'm very uncomfortable with the drill and Gina was kind enough to say that dip needed the drill... which I just said sure. I feel like my cuticles and everything were just annihilated by this drill. Skin was everywhere. Nail too, but maybe all drills and debris are like that. The actual dip makes my nails look like that gross bubble trend that died years ago. Pissed cause I have to deal with this for the next couple of weeks (will update how long they last). Got cut at the end. Nbd. Maybe the price is reflective of the end product... ? I've been sitting on this review for about a week but it's still upsetting me so I want to share my experience. For context, I was traveling and broke a couple of my gel acrylic nails, so I had planned on getting a removal + new set of gels. Quoted $40 for gels and $5 for removal. I was nervous about cheating on my nail lady at home, but I needed them fixed for an event the following day. I arrive at 9:30 and lady #1 looked at my nails like she'd never seen gel acrylics in her LIFE! She barely drilled my nails once and just kept my nails soaking for 30 mins. I was starting to get nervous cause usually by 30 minutes the nails are fully removed or at least at partially. Lady #2 comes in at 10:00 and I get passed off to her. I'm hopeful she's more experienced. Sadly they both continued to look at my gel acrylics like they've never seen them before. Another 15 minutes of soaking. After 45 minutes, all my nails are still on. At this point I tell her it's okay, just take them off, and that's all I'll get today. I had a bad feeling that they'd just mess up my nails if I asked for anything else. After another 15 minutes, those god foresaken nails are finally off, and my natural nails are filed down to all hell. I wish I was making it up that it took a WHOLE HOUR!! And to top it off they charged me $20. I was so upset I didn't even bother fighting about it. My nails look and feel absolutely horrid. 1 star experience but giving 3 stars cause they were nice enough I guess???? Jenny girl if you're reading this I will never cheat on you ever again TLDR: Gel acrylic removal taking a whole 60 mins + nails filed down to all hell + charging $20 for the whole debauchery read more

Everyone who came into the salon she knew by first name basis and greeted them with a smile (yes she wore a mask, but with her excitement we can all assume she was smiling). This review is only for the Acrygel overlay services as I've gotten nothing else, but I was extremely satisified and so was a friend I brought in. I have gotten a full set and then almost 4 weeks later a fill. Both went super smoothly, and I left extremely happy. I also brought my friend in to get acrygel tips and overlay full set, and as someone who never gets her nails done she was very satisfied. Overall, Gina is super sweet and best of all the place is superbly affordable. Its hard to find anywhere else downtown that'll do good acrygel for the price that Gina's does. I had emailed in advance, sending Gina a picture of some nail art I wanted for the Chicago marathon and she was so kind and responsive, fitting me in at exactly the time that worked for me. I had such a fun pedicure here. I walked in with two friends. We were happy to find this salon in the pedway near the Hyatt. I picked my color and was in the chair within 10 minutes. My pedicure was great. I had a calf-slappy massage from my technician that was fun and felt good. The massage chairs worked great and I watched TV while being worked on. The staff were so nice and worked together to pamper my friends and I. Gina was so sweet and a very kind lady. I can't believe I got a spa pedicure for only $30!!!! I've never had a gel manicure this good before! Gina is so sweet and treats you like family the minute you step in that door! She took care of my cuticles so carefully and pays close attention to detail. She checked over all the nails of each hand after polishing before putting it under the light to make sure none of the gel moved or touched the skin. When I look for a good nail technician, I look for people who take their time, pay close attention to detail, are clean and do a great job- this salon blows the rest I've been to out of the water and I can't speak highly enough.
