I was in the area for a sales call and was craving asian. I stopped by the restaurant with monkey in the title looked inside and said no thank you. Yelp directed me over to ginger cafe which had a cool sign. The ambience inside was unappealing, but I figured I'd stay since this place seemed more thai which I enjoy a little more than chinese. I had the cashew chicken lunch combo with a spring roll and everything was very very good. Very fresh. I agree it was a little saucy but overall the sauce was light enough where it didn't gel up over the veggies. Spring roll was great! I dunno why the bad reviews. I've been here before and enjoyed it. Today was not so good. The "General Tsao's" chicken was seasoned well and nicely presented, but some pieces were very rubbery. I upgraded to fried rice, which they forgot, and when it came it was white rice that had a splash of soy sauce and that's it... My wife got the Singapore noodles. They had no hot sauce or curry. Again looked nice, but not good. Strange! Our egg rolls were basic buffet quality. Not much flavor in the filling. Disappointing, but hoping they will get up and running after this remodel and get a few kinks worked out. Will try again some other time. read more

I am so glad this place exists - it's a perfect stop for a yummy lunch at very reasonable prices. Yes, I will admit the service has gotten a bit slower, but I presume it's because the restaurant is so popular and busy at lunch time. I lover their lunch combinations, as well as the wide array of other Thai dishes a la carte. Whether I'm in the mood for vegetarian or carnivore options, Ginger Cafe always delivers: they make my food extra spicy, and bring more on the side, just in case. I love it. My Husband and I went to the Ginger Cafe on a Saturday night around 6pm. The restaurant was very busy but we managed to find an open table near the front. There was one young woman working the entire front of the house (serving,cashiering, phone answering, take out order taker). We waited patiently for about 10 minutes before the woman made her way to our table with menus and to take our drink order. We waited about another 10 minutes for our drinks and for her to come back to take our order....but she was just way too busy. Unfortunately, we decided to leave without even ordering. I can't imagine how long we would have had to wait to actually get any service. Long story short, they're severely understaffed which affects their customer service. I would say eating in is not a good idea...however maybe take out would get better customer service! read more

The portions are so small compared to what they used to be and overpriced for how much you get. The manager who is up front looks so angry and mean it makes you uncomfortable to eat there. We ordered an appetizer right when we sat down and we waited a total of 40 minutes before getting our food. We got our appetizer after we got our order. food was terrible I didn't eat any of my chicken it was almost all fat and the fried rice was completely flavorless and dry. read more

I have enjoyed the peanut butter stir fry and their egg roles are pretty good, however yesterday was off, terribly. 70 dollars in food was ready in 15 minutes. Fast right? This was like chewing jerky except bland and seasonless. I was home with the food and dished up within 15 minutes and it was completely cold by then. I would not be surprised that if it was microwaved and at the premium they charge would be a bold robbery. The hours were shortened Saturday to 4-8pm, so instead of calling it a day possibly they choose to serve this either frozen or microwaved garbage. Shame. The roomate and I neither could finish our food and were so disguised that throwing it away wasn't far enough I had to take a garbage out and immediately get Dairy Queen to try and get the taste out. I have only had take out from Ginger Cafe. I ordered my food and there was 30 minute wait to get the food. I arrived right at the 30 minute mark and the food was ready and waiting. The cashier was very cordial and friendly. We got home and opened the food. The food was steaming hot and fresh. I had the Sweet and Sour chicken. It is packaged with sliced carrots and two ramekins of sweet and sour sauce. Also I had the vegetable fried rice. The rice was fresh and moist and perfectly prepared. We had a friend that order the chicken chow mein. He said it was most likely the best Chinese food he had ever tried. Ginger Cafe is a must try if in the area. read more

First time going. Probably won't go again. Food is decent for the area that doesn't have a lot of Asian cuisine so I can see how the rating is at 4 stars. But again it's the shortage of diversity in that area. We waited for around almost 30 minute for our food. I'm from the cities so I know really good Asian places and prefer others. The black bean gyoza appetizer was good. However, too much of the sauce got the gyoza soggy. The pho was okay, clear broth, not a lot of depth flavor. It tasted like the Mama Asian brand pho instant noodle packages. The curry noodle (ka-poon) broth was also okay, also not a lot of depth curry rich flavor. The vermicelli noodles were still kind of hard, like el dente. That kind of noodle is not like pasta. It needs to be cooked through soft to chew. I didn't care too much for the dishes. read more

I have been to Ginger cafe many times and have always been happy with the food and service. I am somewhat surprised at the negative reviews. Seems some people can't be pleased no matter what. This is a casual restaurant with great, fresh, hand made food. I really like the spring rolls and spicy red curry. The vegetables are not over cooked and the red curry sauce have a nice blend of coconut and spices. Another favorite is the Shitake mushroom & black bean sauce. I usually order it with chicken. It is tender and with a good assortment of vegetables. For a small place that is very reasonably priced, I say, Ginger Cafe is a winner. read more

Decided to try this place on the way home the other night. The egg rolls are delicious and super crispy. We had orange chicken and a spicy seafood dish. I like the seafood dish but the orange chicken was a little over cooked. The flavor was good though for the sauce. It is a very small place and most of their business was take out. We used to go there alot. I always liked their singapore noodles and the sriracha noodles w/ chicken. The eggrolls were always very good, as where the spring rolls.. The last couple of times were were there, the service was so-so, and it was cold outside. Around lunchtime, you want to sit as far away from the door as possible unless you want to get blasted with cold air or scorching heat depending on the season. I wish it had nicer decor including a vestibule, and a little better location to get in and out of coming from the west. 1 on decor and location, 8 on food, makes it a 3 star in my book. read more

I love this restaurant! Seriously, it was shocking to see any reviews under 5 stars. They are located in Ramsey, MN and I have a ridiculously hard time driving through that town without stopping at Ginger. The food is phenomenal, and the service has always been excellent. I'm a once/week regular and would recommend this cuisine to anyone. Among my favorites are the Thai peanut stir fry, pork pad Thai, and coconut soup. We ordered take out on Saturday 7/30/16. Since it was our first time we ordered different meals to all taste and try. We tried the Sweet & Sour Chicken, Chicken Lo mein, Chicken Chow me Fun, pot stickers, shrimp fried rice, and won ton soup. I am all for paying more for fresh food and I have to say I loved all the fresh veggies. Now for the negative- The tails were left on the shirmps in the rice. The portions are Tiny for the price! The wonton soup had some sort of flowery taste to it, which made it tastes like soap. There is no mention of such ingredient in the description. read more

If I could give less than a star....... customer service? Absolutely not. I ordered for pick up. When I arrived and asked for my order the less than kind and rather dim younger girl discovered she gave my food to the last pick up customer by mistake. No apology. Told me they could make it again with a matter-of-fact demeanor and that it would take another 25 minutes. Fine. Wait in my car the 25 minutes and come back in and it's ready. She grabs it asking my name again and tells me the full price of the meal with who I think was a manager or owner next to her. I glared for a moment and paid in full and left quickly before saying anything too harsh. I finally arrive home over an hour after placing the order and discover the broth from the contents had spilled everywhere inside to bag and further more it was the completely WRONG DISH. At this point I said screw it and called back to give her a piece of my mind. The girl that took my order and "helped/served" me at the counter answers in the same dim removed demeanor and I proceed tell her I got the wrong dish. This is when she shows the first signs of actual cognitive function and quickly disagrees with me. I tell her it's ludicrous that I show up to have my food given to someone else, wait 25 minutes, pay full price just to get the wrong meal (tasted terrible btw but not the point) and to be argued with when brought up. Absolutely ridiculous. I've had less than pleasing experiences in restaurants maybe a hand full of times and have never experienced something as to leave me as angry as this. As a first time reviewer here, avoid this shoddy customer-comes-last establishment. Spend your hard earned tender somewhere more deserving of your business. *** I will add that I've had their take out before and had really enjoyed the pad thai from them. Ginger cafe is thorough with their COVID-19 precautions when it comes to dealing with customers. That can't be understated. The food is also a higher quality than the more inexpensive options in the surrounding area, which is like a breath of fresh air. Whatever they do with their fried rice is for sure working! Then for $40 the food wasn't even that great I could have spent less money for the quality of food elsewhere. I had the lunch special, Massaman curry and a spring roll. The staff were really attentive and great about making things quick, since I'm newer to the area and had to get back to work. I got the Massaman since it's one of my favorite types of curry, and from reviews here I knew the place was more Thai than Mandarin or Szechuan. Three little spice symbols? Okay, I thought, I have a toothbrush in my briefcase. I can get spicy at lunch, and deal with it later. I needn't have worried. The curry was terribly bland. Just no heat at all, and barely any curry flavor. I dislike finding a ton of dried pepper flakes hiding in my food, so good for them on that count, but I do like my curry to have curry in it. And weirdly, it was the consistency of broth soup. Curries need to reduce a little, both for flavor and for consistency, and Massaman especially tends to be nice and thick (like a stew) because of simmering the starch in the potatoes. These potatoes were not even tender. There was also not a lot of chicken or peanuts, and overall it seemed very thrown-together. And it's not like they just chucked some potato into a chicken red curry, because again, it was way too watery and thin. The spring roll was okay, but it didn't have much meat in it and there was no mint or cilantro detectable. This is Thai food for people who hate spices, basically. Staff and attentiveness: A. Ambience: (nobody cares about ambience when you're just grabbing a quick lunch off Hwy 47. Let's not get weird here.) Food: C-. Average: B-. I may give them another shot, maybe try a stir-fry or Pad Thai. Maybe I happened to order the one thing they're bad at. Maybe the chef had a bad day. I really want to support a local business doing something other than just vague "Asian" food... but this one meal was a bland, sad, depressing Minnesota Bland version of Thai food. read more

I had Kung Pao chicken (extra spicy) and it was spiced well, also had spring roll, good, but not the best I've had, some kind of ground meat in it, I prefer the usual shrimp/bbq pork. GF had cashew chicken, not as good as mine but middle of the road, her egg rolls were very good. It has a small basic dining area, if a dog barking and a dirty fish tank bother you get take out, but if you want good food at a fair price this is the place. Look forward to trying new dishes. We have been frequent customers for many years and this place has unfortunately really gone down hill! The last few times we have gotten take-out wasn't great but the service and take-out we received last night was downright terrible. First of all, we had to wait almost 45 minutes for our order. When we got home we were shocked by the lack of quality of the items we used to love. The white rice was brittle and dry, the lettuce wraps had rock hard noodles mixed in. and the egg rolls were cold but burned to black on the ends. What we were most angry about was the $7 we paid for the Golden Spicy Shrimp appetizer. We opened the container and there lay a mere 5 of the tiniest shrimp we had ever seen. Not only were they small and few but deep fried so long we could barely bite into them! The decor and ambiance has also declined. They have painted over the soothing green walls, removed the fish tanks and any other decor they used to have and instead installed a Coke dispenser behind the checkout counter. The restaurant also felt very dirty compared to how it used to be. Sorry Ginger, but you have lost our family as customers! read more

Terrible customer service. They will get your order wrong, take your money, blame you for it and not offer any solutions or work with you to solve the problem. They will, however, call the manager to have him yell at you in front of other customers though. Nothing about this restaurant is special or impressive, so it's surprising they can afford to be so awful towards customers. Never eating there again. Luckily there's a handful of other places around that do everything they do and do it better, all while not treating customers like trash. read more
