Also, there's a video that shows my call-log with the owner (I had a couple questions prior to visiting) to serve as proof I went to them since they have a habit of claiming that everyone who leaves a 'bad' review were never serviced by them or is an ex-employee. Jose, the gentleman who answered the phone was very professional and courteous when we spoke. He gave me exact pricing and let me know in advance that it would cost more if my hair was extra long. We agreed on a time I would arrive at the salon and the next day when I did, I was greeted by a lovely woman, who pronounced my name and went to working on my hair right away. I was a bit concerned because I was wondering if she'd be able to handle my hair in all its thickness and kinky coiliness and she did, with the quickness. I was very surprised by how she was able to wash, condition, roller set, and blow dry my hair so fast. When it was time for the trim, I was confident that she'd finish the job right because she made sure to tell me what my hair was looking like and what needed to be done before proceeding. She even had Jose explain it to me more thoroughly in English. One of the things I appreciated about the salon besides the excellent customer service, the actual great service, and the cost was that the place felt comfortable. I was greeted and I felt welcomed and warm while at the shop. It felt like the old school shops where everyone says hello and is pleasant. I highly recommend this place, as they offer great options and perks that come with getting your hair done. I walked out looking like "who's that girl" and was grinning from ear to ear. She has been doing my hair for a number years and when I am forced to go to someone else I am always disappointed. She has done weaves, braids, blow outs and more to my hair. Each style being unique and fabulous. Shay specializes in everything if you ask me. She promotes natural hair care not just a cute style. She educates you on how to take care of your hair, what products to use and not use. Shay helps you figure out what works for you. She always says it's not about they style it's about your hair. As far as the actual salon, GSTARR the salon is a cute spot I like the lighting and the decor. The bathroom is decorated well and the salon is always clean. Well this is definitely NOT one of those situations. I was in a rather desperate situation because the woman who usual does my braids was unavailable due to illness. So after searching yelp for someplace that is professional while being in my price range, I can upon Lady Leo Beauty Salon. I was able to make a same day appointment with Shenel, the resident hair braider and after previewing the pictures online, I was excited to get my summer style. I choose something simple and quick, cornrows of alternating size braided back into a bun. This was something basic that I didn't feel was easy to mess up. I did not get my hair washed or even blow dried, from start to finish my style which should have taken no more than two hours took over 4! I read the review of another helper about time being an issue for the, so this was no so surprising for me. After all quality takes time right? Wrong! After weather numerous comments by Shenel about how thin my edges were and dry my hair was (I had just taken out my kinky twists and my hair needed some TLC, which I tried to explain to her), I had to sit through her rough mishandling of my hair. I am not were near tender headed but I had to bite my tongue more than once. They braids were so tight I could not even touch the or bear to have her put them up into a bun. I told her they were tight and to her credit she tried to use steam to loosen them up. This did not work well and I have to take 825 mg of ibuprofen (a throw back from my Caesarean section this past winter). I left in pain and upset because she had braided on the very baby hairs which she complained were too thin. By then I was so tired I just wanted out. I paid the 80 fee ( nowhere near worth the style I received) forewent a tip and hurried out of the shop vowing not to return. I am writing this review a week after my experience because the pain from the tight braids remains and I am upset that I wasted my money because I now have to take out the braids that I received only last Monday! The cornrows which she placed on my baby hairs literally detached from my head from the stress of being braided too tight. Please do make the same mistake I did, please go elsewhere for your braids. Please see the attached pictures as a cautionary tale from my experience.

What takes other stylist 6 hours, she does in 2. I can put my hair up in a bun and walk out of the salon with no problem. The ambience of the shop is really nice and Meagan does a great job making her clients feel like home with great conversation, music and even movies playing. Even if I'm unsure of what would look nice, Meagan always makes helpful suggestions and I always walk out looking bomb!
