9.5/10 Absolutely amazing, hands down the best Thai food in Salinas! We ordered the Pad Thai, Panang Curry, and Nam Sai, and every dish hit in its own way. Starting with the Pad Thai, we ordered it with beef and it was easily the star of the meal. Perfectly cooked soft noodles with a savory, slightly sweet sauce that was incredibly well balanced. The beef was tender and flavorful, and the addition of diced nuts added a great crunch and texture that tied everything together beautifully. The Panang Curry was also excellent. Rich, creamy, and full of flavor. It came with chicken, green beans, and bell peppers, all of which tasted fresh and perfectly cooked with a nice bite. The curry sauce was smooth and comforting, soaking into the dish incredibly well. A must-order for curry lovers. Lastly, the Nam Sai reminded us a lot of pho. On its own, it was a bit light and lacked salt, but once we added our own seasonings, it really came alive. After adjusting it to taste, it was delicious, comforting, and perfect for warming up. Service was fast and efficient, and the restaurant was clean and well kept. The ambiance was beautiful. A very nice, welcoming spot to enjoy a meal. read more

We've eaten here multiple times, but this time left disappointed.. We were sat quickly and given menus, but took our waiter quite some time to come get orders which included drinks/order together. I was in the mood for soup and had their Tom Kha a few times so originally thought about ordering that, but decided to try their Tiew Tom Yum. Mistake. My guy ordered the pork Pad Thai, and we also shared a Thai fried rice. We ordered tea, but the waiter forgot the sugar caddy we requested and didnt see him until the food arrived about 20 or so minutes later. We had some requests for side items, etc and he brought everything immediately, but didnt come back to check on us until quite some time where I had almost decided my fate of struggling through my horrible soup. It was the most sour of sour soups I've ever had. Neither one of liked it. When the waiter came around and asked about our meals expressed how much I didn't care for it, and the sour was off putting. He offered the coconut soup, which I believed was Tom Kha. When the soup was dropped off I asked for a to go container as we were done with the rest of our meals almost at that point. Again, that soup came out with an overwhelming sour flavor. Thankfully the Thai rice was delicious, so I ate the rest of that. We didnt see our server again until we were standing up ready to walk up to the front as he was the only server running around, and had one table in the place. I brought up the fact that that soup did not taste like Tom Kha, was it a different version of coconut soup? He asked the cook and she said was the same as Tom Kha. At this point we were tired and decided to go, deciding not to come back for soup ever again. Possibly, not to return in general as were irritated. Our server wasn't horrible, was very polite and was running around, however as so many servers tend to do had a one track mind only focusing on one table at a time instead of circulating his section. My drunken noodles had good char, but were not spicy (isn't stronger flavor what differentiates it from soy sauce noodles?). Pad see iw was clumped together, so the kid was disappointed with his order. Prik khing had good flavor from Thai basil, but it wasn't spicy even though we explicitly asked for Thai-level hot. Our waiter was great. The food is average. I think what was more disheartening was the managers tone when he spoke to his employees. The restaurant was quiet and you could hear the way he spoke to the cooks and the waiter. You should really look in to replacing that guy. He is bad for business and that environment. People go out to eat to enjoy themselves not hear that. We won't be returning. read more

So we always enter a new restaurant hoping that it's going to be a great dining experience. Stuck in Salinas for a night, we spent an hour scanning Yelp. Finally, we agreed upon Ginger Thai. To say that this was the worst Thai food we've ever eaten is an understatement. I will say that the service was friendly and accommodating and the ambiance was quite pleasant. But it did not help the food. We started off with unnaturally giant calamari rings which, the waiter explained, were assembled from chopped squid tentacles . It was tender. But the breading was extremely heavy and it was served with a standard plum sauce with chopped peanuts. The egg rolls were hot and crispy and served with the same sauce. Honestly, if that was all that we consumed, three stars would have been appropriate. However, we ordered two entrees: drunken seafood noodles that were so thick and dense, only small bites of noodles worked. The real problem was the overcooked seafood. My partner offered me a mussel which was so horrible, I feared becoming ill. Someone should tell the kitchen that mussels only need a brief couple of minutes in the broth. It also tasted old but that could be me. The duck breast with orange sauce was the worst part for me. I always order duck when Thai restaurants have it on the menu. This overcooked breast (why kill it if you're not going to treat its meat with an ounce of respect?) was served in pools of a cloyingly sweet thick orange sauce and steamed noodles. Because of the sauce, the noodles, accompanying carrots and cabbage were inedible. At one point, I transferred slices of duck to another plate where I blotted the sauce with my napkin. This gastronomic disaster set us back $100. At $50, we'd never return. In order to soothe our taste buds, we went next door and visited Baskin Robbins where I came up with a new ice cream flavor: Duck Puke. We met up with family while in town for the holidays. We ordered Pad Thai, drunken noodles, grilled eggplant and green curry. All dishes were prepared as ordered and appreciated our server who was very attentive as well as the bar keeper. The establish itself is not over done with lots of nick nacks but emphasis is placed on staff who appreciate patrons who love good and flavorful food. With some food allergies, personally I always appreciate how the goal is to serve what they would to people they care about. The owner was kind and appreciative. We ate in, but many drivers came in for "to go" orders. There is limited parking in the back of the establishment but plenty next to a nearby burger joint. read more

Ginger never disappoints, Thai is one of my favorites and they do it justice. This visit we had Chicken Satay, Tom Kha soup, Pineapple Fried Rice and Pineapple Curry with shrimp and thai tea with bobas. The Satay was absolutely tender and delicious. As always the portions ensure you have leftovers for lunch the next day. The service was exceptional, attentive and friendly. Parking is nearby, though they added a solar voice camera system to the parking area to police the parking. The cost for two with tip is around $90 but you will eat like kings and enjoy the meal. If you're looking for Solid Thai food in Salinas, this is the spot. Located on South Main Street, Ginger Thai is impossible to miss as you drive past. They have a small parking lot in the back, but it only accommodates a few vehicles, including a few handicap spots. It's best to park in the neighboring parking lots (by Winchels) or in the neighborhood down the street. The service is prompt, prices are on par with what you would expect but most importantly the food is good. I've been here a few times recently and keep ordering the Tom Yum noodle soup with chicken and veggies (adding like an additional protein) which is loaded with yummy goodies and adds an extra healthy twist to it. If you're spice sensitive, I'd recommend leveling down on your spice level. You can always ask for more if it doesn't have enough, but you can't take it away once added. I order my spice level somewhere around medium, which is closer to hot at other Thai places I've been to. The soup wasn't my favorite, usually I ask for shrimp but they brought me chicken (a human error). It was good but not my favorite. The sticky rice was different. The restaurant looks very nice inside decorated with some artefactos and paintings from Thailand. Bright colors and tables are well spaced between one another. We had a very attentive server who made sure we were enjoying our meal and if we needed anything else. We ordered Pineapple Curry, egg rolls and Panang Curry. Overall the food looked and tasted good, however, the Chicken Panang Curry had very little protein and they added tomatoes to the pineapple curry which I prefer without. An eight year update! Adding a star for longevity, getting through the Covid junk without any noticeable changes is incredibly. The food was as good as before, tasting fresh and well plated. Service was also good being professional and quick. The place is clean including the restroom...nice. The place is in a nondescript strip mall off downtown Salinas, when you first come up to it you see the colors are clearly painted on the exterior with the flair of traditional Thai wood decor. Water is served with lemon and makes for a foreshadowing of the meal to come. I had the Coconut Soup and Pad Thai, traditional fare done with a modern twist. The soup was with beef and the noodles were covered in sauce like it was going out of style. I had ordered medium spicy but this came rather hot for my taste. It was passable but with the amount of spice, you couldn't really taste the food, all you tasted was the spice.
