We have a winner. Need a cozy spot for your midweek Thai fix? Ginger Thai is your new place to eat. Royal Thai too crowded? Asian Mint too far away? Meet your Lakewood/East Dallas Thai Huckleberry. It occupies a tiny storefront between Sols and Lover's Pizza. It has a temporary banner in lieu of a permanent sign at the moment. Inside it's a small, sparsely decorated nondescript interior. The food matches: no frills but it is very good. The flavor wasn't off-the-charts mindblowing. However, both my wife and I agreed that the meat (both chicken and beef) was surprisingly fresh and high quality. My problem with Asian Mint, Royal Thai, and most Asian restaurants is the quality of the meat is usually mediocre at best. Not so at Ginger. We ordered the Spicy Noodles (Pad Kee Mao) with beef, Spicy Peanut w/ chicken, and Thai Herbal Chicken. All delivered. I will say, their "spicy" ain't spicy. Not close. They were doing a nice business inside the restaurant and their take out was very brisk. Might have to give that a try. It's BYOB... so it has that going for it... which is nice. read more

Now we're talking. I've been here twice and I feel I can fully report that this place is the bomb diggity. Ginger Thai is just next to my other new lovaaaah, Lover's Pizza. I don't think I would have known it was there if I hadn't been stalking this pizza joint. I saw it, we got a to-go menu and put it on our mental list of places to try soon. A few weeks later, with hungry tummies and nothing appealing in the fridge, we headed on in. So far, for appetizers, we have had the chicken spring rolls ($4.95 for four) and the shrimp rolls ($5.95 for six). Both are fried and both were very good. Both come with a great (and really fresh) tasting home made sauce for dipping that had fresh cucumbers in it. It was sort of sweet and spicy at the same time. Both times I have ordered the same thing (what can I say, I was craving it the second time!) -- under the "stir fried" section: broccoli with oyster sauce with beef ($6.95 for lunch, $8.95 for dinner). It's broccoli, black mushrooms, carrots and your choice of protein (beef for me!) and it comes with rice. It was more spicy the first time -- the second time it wasn't spicy at all -- so I'll be sure to mention to not leave me out on the chili paste next time. The service is wonderful, polite, and I never felt like I had to wait on anything. The prices are not expensive and it's great for a weekly night out when you're too pooped to bother to cook anything. The only thing that sucks is that it's in a strip mall next to Weight Watchers so there's that element of guilt when you walk out all full n' sheeit. But the inside is really serene and almost makes you forget you're in the same parking lot as a Sherwin Williams paint store. Ginger Thai is literally 1/4 a mile away from my house so I can see many more visits in my future. They have takeout and also deliver to a limited area. Dude. I'm in love. read more

So after reading all the buzz about this new Thai joint I just had to stop by. My girlfriends and I decided to eat here Sunday early evening for a friends birthday since she has a crazy curry fetish. When we arrived we were sat promptly, given our drinks quickly and handed menus before we could blink and say thank you. One of our friends was running a little late but the staff did an awesome job keeping our drinks full and checking to see if we were okay. I got the yellow curry with tofu and veggies THAI spice ($8.95 + $1.00 for the extra veggies ugh). It took about 15 minutes for our dishes to come out and my curry was barely warm. What irritated me was that my friend also got curry but we had the same exact amount of veggies! I asked for the spice tray which ended up being a whole plate of different spices! This is a good thing in my book so I was able to add a little bit of everything to get the flavor I wanted. The curry itself was okay but not AMAZING. One girl got this ginger, broccoli and chicken dish that smelled amazing so I'll have to come back and try their rice and noodle dishes. After laying our dishes out on the table we hardly saw our waiter again. I had to get up and ask for the check because we were sitting there for over 25 minutes after finishing up our grub. It was also pretty humid so we had to ask for the fans beside us to be turned on and it wasn't too hot of a day outside. If your already in the area this would be an ideal Thai food place to dine at but it's not worth a special drive or anything. read more

Again, this is where a half star would come in handy. I'm really torn whether this should be a 3 or 4 star review...I'm going with 3! When Ginger Thai opened another location within walking distance of my house I was so excited. But I have to say my balloon was somewhat deflated after our first dine-in experience. The service was not the best: A bit slow and she forgot our tea refill. The steamed dumplings were awesome and hubby's Panang Curry was so good that I was hoping he would leave the table so that I could steal it. But the Tomkha just didn't cut it. Not alot to it except mushrooms. And my fav. spot puts noodles in my bowl. (Not a Thai expert so this may not be a norm. Yet I love this.) I was hoped Ginger Thai would keep me from having to travel across town for my Thai fix. But I don't know that this will happen. I just don't feel the love. While it will work in a pinch I will still stop by my ol' tried and true for my beloved Tomkha Soup. However, if Tomkha isn't on the agenda I will definitely make a stop at Ginger Thai. Sidenote: They will deliver but it's an $18 min. and our takeout has been pretty spot on. read more

The previous reviews I read were very helpful in painting a picture of what to expect. It is very small and there is not too much staff around. However, we loved that it was BYOB and the grocery store next door sells anything you need to pick up. The food was really good and the portion sizes were perfect. The service was good, but we did notice a couple wait a little bit and get up and leave when they were not helped promptly. So if you are feeling impatient or in a hurry it might not be the place for you that night. Overall we thought it was very worthwhile and will go back. read more

This place is fantastic! They provide gluten free options, it isn't listed on the menu but they said most of their items can be made gluten free, you just need to ask and state that you would like your dish to be gluten free! I ordered the pad Thai and the papaya salad. The pad Thai was pretty good, standard pad Thai, and the papaya salad was definitely what knocked the review from a 3 to a 4. Definitely recommend getting it because the flavor is just impeccable. I don't know what they do to get the flavor so perfectly but they understand what my soul desires through the papaya salad. I have never ventured into this establishment...only ordered delivery. Very fast and plenty of portions. I have enjoyed the steamed dumplings, several of the curry dishes and a mixed seafood dish. I ordered the panang curry spicy and it delivered! All the dishes are filled with quality meats and seafood--they don't skimp. Looks decent in pictures. Maybe it was the strange to-go cup that the lady had to make it in. Maybe it was her misunderstanding of fractions. Whatever the reasoning, it didn't change the fact that it was unbearable to drink. I tried adding milk. Water. Ice. Nothing changed the sweetness. INFINITE SUGAR!!!! Ok moving on. 3 stars for the Pad Woon Sen. I've had much better. (even at royal thai or my fave, malai. The portion was pretty perfect though. I could eat it all and not be super full or have gross leftovers the day after. It was a little oily though and a little flavorless. BUT it was packed with veggies (I got tofu) which I loved. Probably why it wasn't as filling. The Pad Kee Mow was SO much better. Wish I had gotten that. Next time! As in, I would come back. My bf and I were at a loss when deciding what to eat on NYE. There is a serious dearth of good Thai places in Lakewood, so we decided to give Ginger Thai a try. I got there, and checked out the menu, which had plenty of options. It was kind of sad...the place was a bit empty, and a bit lacking in the atmosphere department (because it was COLD in there!), but I nonetheless was excited about ordering our food. I went with a chicken pineapple fried rice, and my bf had the Thai herbed chicken. We ordered Thai style samosas, as well. Now, I normally expect takeout to be a bit sub-par compared to dining in, but this place far exceeded my expectations. My rice was wrapped in foil inside my container, to keep it separate from the cucumber and lime it came with. My bf's herbed chicken was incredibly delicious and still quite crispy, in spite of having been inside the takeout container. The samosas had a fantastic texture, and came with an interesting sauce with cucumber and tamarind. Yum! My fried rice was amazing. Tomatoes, lots of caramelized onions, green onion, cashews, and nice, soft pineapple. It was not at all bland. I usually have to put extra soy sauce on my rice to give it some flavor, but did not have to with this stuff. We will definitely be dining in soon. We have been looking for a reasonably close-to-home place to eat Thai food, and I think we may have found it! read more

We tried Ginger on a Friday night and ordered our meal to go. They could not have been more confused. We waited 45 minutes for our 2 entrees. We complained because they did not seem to be busy. The delivery driver's orders were getting more priority than those of us who sat around without beverages for almost an hour. Then we are assured by the manager that our order was correct. We trust him and get home, starving and realize they screwed it up. I took back the wrong entree and was refunded for the entire meal. Over an hour later, I get home and get to try what we finally ended up with. Unfortunately it was delicious! I can't wait to go back, after they forget my mad face. I will chalk it up to them being new. If they served beer/wine it would have quelled my irritation. I hope they have booze now or is it BYOB? Food great! Service Bad! read more

This is my favorite to-go/delivery Thai food in the White Rock/Lakewood area. The food is really fresh! My favorite dish is the Pad Woon Sen. Other favorites of mine include the Thai Noodle Soup, Chicken Egg Rolls, and the Pad See-Iew. My husband enjoys the Pineapple Chicken and Pad Thai. This place is getting 5 stars based on the best "delivery" Thai food. If we wanted a dine in experience, this may not be my top choice for Thai food. read more

Tiny place buried in a strip mall. Always looks closed from the outside but inside has a nice modern Asian decor, with maybe seating for 20 or so people. Menu is filled with Americanized Thai dishes. Had the pad thai (always a benchmark with new places) and it was really one of the better examples I've had around here. An abundance of shrimp, accompanied by a cup of coconut soup. I don't usually remark on presentation but this dish came out looking to impress. Prices are also pretty attractive, too (almost all dishes less than $10). Authentic? As the day started with everything going wrong, it sure did end it with something right! After tasting Tony's Thom Kah soup a few days prior that he had from Ginger Thai, i knew it had great potential. Flavorful with a nice kick! Upon arriving, we discovered it was BYOB. Good thing we ordered apps and were busy smiling at the frosty Honeymoon beers. Ahhhhhh! The fried calamari was huge chunks of squid with a pinch of cilantro in it. Very nicely battered with an interesting sweet and sour sauce with bits of cucumber in it. I was quite surprised and would order it again! As for entrees, my hubby had the beef and broccoli dish. He said it was pretty good. I had the yellow curry. Though I've only ordered this dish a hand full of times, i am no expert, but i thought it was the best yellow curry I've ever had! Very flavorful sauce with tons of other stuff in it! And they ask you on a scale of 1 to 5 of how spicy you want it. I ordered the 3. Which was a nice hot kick but not overwhelming. It was full with potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, onions, red and green bell peppers and chicken. With a side of jasmine rice which i quickly dumped into the dish and mixed it all up. Tasty-tastic! A nice spot for Thai food in Lakewood. The food tends to be the sweet side of the Thai flavor profile. The coconut soup was way too sweet, but the flaws here are forgivable. This place has truly fresh delicious food. Having a late 2 o'clock lunch with a friend this was my experience : It was clean and had efficient service. I took my family here for the first time and they were very impressed! We ordered for starters, the corn patties and the steamed dumplings and they there both delicious. We did a family style and shared Prik Khing curry, ginger thai shrimp, peanut chicken and everything came out fresh and tasted amazing! I have always loved Thai food, but only recently have I become obsessed with finding a Green curry. Overall this place serves up a decent dish, but it is not consistent. I have ordered it once a week for the last 4 weeks - and each time I get more disappointed. Finally I had to throw out the last delivery as it was so horrible. Well I've dined in this restaurant before and I have had a pretty good experience that last two times. This time I decided to order Togo food and I found that our dishes were not nearly as good as the previous times I came. My wife had the sesame chicken, which was really bland with no flavor, and the chicken wasn't the nice chunks of chicken you would expect in this dish. It was like some smaller end pieces with the fat on it still, not breast meat. The broccoli was way over cooked and soggy. I had the Penang Curry, and the veggies in this were also way over cooked. The sauce was decent, but I was left disappointed with the whole experience and wished I had gone to another place for good Thai. I'm not even sure where that is yet, but I am on the hunt for a new plac after this experience. read more

I grabbed take out from here a couple of weeks ago for my boyfriend's birthday dinner. The atmosphere of the place is incredibly quaint, and also it's very intimate. Nice lighting and decor, while still maintaining a casual feel. I ended up ordering the Pepper Garlic and Broccoli Stir Fry with tofu, and my man got the Spicy Peanut Sauce Stir Fry (also with tofu). Both were very good, however we are big on BIG flavor and ended up adding soy sauce and Sriracha to both dishes. They weren't bland by most standards, just not as spiced as we had hoped. We also ordered the Crab Cream Cheese (or in other words, Crab Rangoons) which were DELICIOUS! I would order just those time and time again, no question. We were the only ones there the entire time so our service was great sans what sounded like either an asian porno or asian workout dvd playing from the kitchen occasionally. I'm not a huge Thai fan but my spicy noodles were not but just quite very good to the max (huh?). I liked the salad with peanut sauce. My friend's spicy beef plate was real good. Ginger Thai is one of my favorite new Thai places. Price wise it's better than most places. The crab Rangoon rocks and the yellow curry tastes homemade. The Thai fried chicken is probably better at the restaurant than delivered. The Thai fried rice is typical of Thai fried rice; it's much cleaner tasting than Chinese fried rice. Small Thai place with a Tahiti theme (little umbrellas and palm tree motifs, weird, I know). Food was good, although I didn't get to try my Thai staple (Massaman curry). I had the spicy basil noodles, and they made them pretty spicy (I requested it that way). The food came out, looked very clean and attractive. With two entrees and two deserts, the bill was around $30. Okay price, although I'd always rather pay around $15.
