I used to come here all the time almost 8 years ago. I've returned three times in 2 weeks since I've returned. Loved their food. Their food is still delicious. It's homey and not drenched in oils and other heavy sauces. They start with their sticky rice and eggplant dip. Their peach iced tea is spot on for the Dallas heat. I've had their lunch specials and always spot on. Food portions are generous.
The menu had plenty of options that sounded amazing! Came on a Saturday and was able to order off of the brunch menu! The Thai chicken and waffles were the right choice! The servers were very attentive and the restaurant decor was nice! Would go back again to try some of the noodle dishes next!
Very good service. Very good food. It did not take us long to get seated. The server was there quickly to take our order. They brew their beers in house and they are very good. I would try the Dopplebock. They have good Thai tea and other drinks that are so good. The sticky rice amuse bûche is actually quite tasty. The pineapple fried rice is really good. You can tell they use fresh pineapple versus canned pineapples. The drunken noodles were absolutely amazing, it will probably be the thing I get next time I'm there. A friend of mine got the Seabass noodle dish, but didn't love it. They offered to give her drunken noodles to take home and didn't charge us for the Seabass, which was kind. The restaurant and servers in general are just very accommodating and made sure that everyone was taken care of. And if you have room for dessert, please get the mango sticky rice. Theirs is so fresh and delicious and you should save room!
I popped in here recently to get out of the rain and was delighted with the ambiance. Everything was decorated in warm orange candlelit tones. This is a Thai restaurant, but they have a FULL menu of Tiki drinks which look outstanding. I wasn't in the mood for something boozy, so I tried an iced coffee. The bartender is a genuine pro... he mixed up a coconut inspired coffee drink for me on the fly, complete with fancy garnish. I would definitely return the next time I'm in Uptown to try more on their menu.
Stopped by Malai Kitchen after a cold one-mile walk during "Dalaska 2026" and it was the perfect warm-up spot. The Thai lemongrass soup was comforting, and the tuna tartare really hit the spot after a serious craving for something lime-y and spicy. Friendly staff and always a solid experience.
I tried the Burmese tea leaf salad and was not a fan- I've had it from a Burmese restaurant previously and this was a terrible version. The drunken noodles are the way to go if you're unsure of what to order. The restaurant is in a great location, there is free parking and the ambience is nice but casual.
Malai Kitchen was such a great weeknight find. We walked over to West Village after a stroll on the Katy Trail. ATMOSPHERE: Warm, modern, and inviting without feeling pretentious. The space has a lively energy but still feels comfortable for conversation. It is perfect for a casual date night or dinner with friends after work. FOOD: The highlight for us was the appetizer sampler, which was an excellent value compared to ordering individual apps. It gave us a chance to try a variety of flavors and textures, and everything felt thoughtfully prepared and well-balanced, coming with two of each of their most popular apps for $18. SERVICE: Friendly and knowledgeable, though a bit slow at times. Nothing that detracted too much from the experience, but it is worth knowing if you are in a rush. PARKING: Surprisingly easy for Uptown. There is a large free garage nearby, which makes the whole experience much less stressful. Overall, Malai Kitchen is a solid choice for a relaxed weeknight dinner with great food and a convenient location. Minor service delays aside, it is a place we would happily walk back to again, especially for that sampler!
Malai Kitchen was not one of my more memorable meals this year. The service was good. However, the curry was not. I asked several questions about the menu before I ordered. I've eaten at ALOT of Thai restaurants around the world. Chicken with red curry is pretty much the same (give or take the spice intensity). I'm not sure why it was so complicated at Malai Kitchen but I did ask if coconut milk was in it. I did want the typical dish that does have coconut milk in it. They reassured me that it would have it in it. The dish came out and the sauce tasted almost like yellow curry with a tang to it. It was not the same. I'm not sure why it tasted this way and I'm not one to send food back (I really dont like sending food back!!) However, I couldn't eat it. It was inedible. It did not taste like it had any coconut. The restaurant accommodated me and asked me if I would like something else. I ordered soup. It was better.
Malai Ktichen offers up a Thai/Indian and more fusion array of dishes that are perfectly seasoned, balanced, and curated for even the pickiest of eaters. My friends and I ordered the vegetable samosas, red curry with side of fried rice, roti for starters. For drink, I ordered the Iced Vietnamese Coconut Coffee and it was one of the best Vietnamese coffees I've ever had. It wasn't too sweet but perfectly blended with the coconut and espresso flavors, with shaved coconut flakes added on top. For main dishes, I ordered the Chiang Mai Noodles with shrimp, which came in a green coconut curry sauce. The noodles were good and there was a large helping of fried wontons for garnish. My friend ordered the drunken noodles and they were very tasty and flavorful. Overall, service was a bit slow, but the food was worth the wait. I definitely would come again and try more of their noodle dishes and their mango sticky rice for dessert,
Had bookmarked this restaurant and am happy to have tried Malai Kitchen. The restaurant was quite busy for the evening but we were seated immediately as we walked in. Service was outstanding from the get go. They have a full service bar with good options of beer, wine, sake, spirits and cocktails. Enjoyed the house IPA and will recommend it. Sticky rice with sauce was served as a complimentary appetizer while we ordered the starter and main course. The shrimp spring rolls was a good starter and the Bangkok Street Fried Rice and Glass Noodles were excellent entrees. The flavors were great and the spice levels were as ordered. The ambience of the restaurant is cosy and modern. Mall and street parking available. Pricing: Moderate high but there's good value for money.
We just had the most fantastic meal here after going to a play at Kalita Humphries. On Sundays the Happy Hour is all day and it is outstanding! We ordered 4 appetizers from the HH menu (2 for $12) - imperial rolls, chicken satay, wings and Vietnamese meatballs. The satay is average but the other 3 I would order every time, especially the meatballs. We also split the arctic cod w red curry. That dish is so big that even splitting it between the 2 of us we still brought some home. We had a little bit of room for dessert and had to order the mango sticky rice smash and the coconut cream pie. The sticky rice comes in a coconut shell and is warm and constructed perfectly. But the pie was a revelation - they do an amazing job with their version, from the pandan caramel sauce, to the mango slices and the scoop of coconut gelato on top. Yum! The best part of the meal was the top notch service. Our waiter, Tim, is also the bartender and he was so accommodating and friendly. He offered several tastes of different beers - I ended up going with their special 'Octoberfest' lager that had some nice citrus notes. He also recommended the jalapeño basil margarita and split an order of the Vietnamese coffee martini (a great take on an espresso martini) to go with our dessert. We had a GREAT time here and will be back!
This was our first time visit. Our pretty waitress was very cheerful, kind, patient and attentive. I ordered the lunch special, salmon was so delicious and my husband had the trout. The green curry rice was so delicious and tasty. We can just eat that alone. So yummy. Highly recommended

I was very excited to try this Malaysian place. They actually do a Thai fusion with it, but it's really leans more to Malaysian flavors. Their tea is amazing. You can tell they brew it and it doesn't come from a syrup. When I sat down, I was instantly greeted, and there were like four different people serving my table, I think that they all work as a team to make sure everything is covered. The service was just amazing. Restaurant is beautiful, the booths were , small and intimate and you feeling that you in place with privacy and yet part of the group ....kind of interesting how they've done that. But the food! The food was outstanding, first they gave me a complementary appetizer of Jasmine sticky rice with this eggplant chutney, that was very tasty, a teeny bit spicy, but really good depth with flavor. Then my beef Samosas arrived. There were four, wrapped in like a triangle rapper, smaller than the Indian version of the same, and the flavor was very tasty, and corn and small chopped potatoes, yum! The two chutneys that came with it one was a cool cucumber, and the other was this sweet and spicy plum sauce. They made samosas!!! They could be soft and cool, or they could be delicious and spicy, depending on chutney you had them with and you had a third option.... There was a bed of pickled radish and carrot that really sit off the samosas as well and we're just delicious on their own. I devoured the entire thing. Then get the entrée. I had drunken noodles and I added the shredded pork... It was devastatingly tasty!!! the noodles were obviously done it a wok that's been seasoned to perfection. The wide noodles picked up all that deliciousness from the wok and then combined with the pork... heaven ! They had large pieces of bell pepper and tomatoes. very fresh onions... Just deliciousness. I'm already excited to try this place again. Everything we tried was wonderful. We started with a complimentary sticky rice and ordered the favorites sampler. The sampler gave us a chance to try four different items and came paired with four sauces. The meatball was probably the table majority favorite. There was also some meat wrapped in fried rice paper, that was my personal favorite. We were there in time for brunch and that was the highlight for me. Coconut chicken on top of a pandan waffle with coconut syrup. YUM!!!! French toast with flambé bananas and syrup, also YUM!!! The second time, the service was just as amazing but the food was not as good the second time and we ordered the same thing. We also tried the hangar steak with hatch as it was a limited special. I make and eat curry constantly, and order it often! This was the best curry I have ever had in my entire life--it was the vegetarian curry bowl with tofu, red curry, and jasmine rice. Went in on a Saturday evening and we're seated right away. Within minutes we had a server ask for drinks and bring water. We were given great drink recommendations by Mario! It seemed pretty busy but we got our food timely and all the servers assisted with haste. Never an empty water or used dish on the table more than a minute or two. I was conflicted about how to rate this place because the dishes are hit or miss. They can be really good, or really bad. You have to either get lucky or know what's good. Thankfully, I checked Yelp for opinions, so most of what I got was great. But if I didn't, I might have had a completely different experience. My party of 6 came in at around 1pm on a Monday and it was busier than I was expecting, but service was good throughout the meal. I liked the ambiance of the restaurant, especially with the bar in the middle. It felt nice and cozy inside, but there was additional seating outside too. YELLOW CURRY BOWL W/ CHICKEN: Good and flavorful! Only complaint is that they didn't give enough rice. Not sure if asking for more costs extra or not. CRAB DIP: My favorite dish I tried! I only got this because people recommended it so highly, and, boy, am I glad I listened! So good and flavorful! I'd come back again just for this! SEARED AHI TUNA SPRING ROLLS: Good, light, and fresh! But not a lot of tuna. Lots of pickled veggie flavor though, so you have to like that kind of thing to like this. CRISPY ROTI: Great texture and flavor! Kind of like a croissant texture. Highly recommend if you haven't tried it before! SPICY CRISPY BEEF SAMOSAS: This was only alright because the beef was dry. The flavors were good though. VIETNAMESE NOODLE SOUP (PHO): I can't remember if it was the chicken or beef pho that my friend got, but it was bad. My guess is that it was the beef because she was craving traditional pho. I saw enough reviews mentioning this and warned her not to get it, but she wanted to try it. She regretted it. It was really bland. She had to put a ton of sriracha in. I think it might've been a house-made sriracha, which she actually really liked. But it couldn't save the pho. They claim to use house-made noodles, which are wider and much softer than standard pho noodles. We really didn't like it. Don't get the pho. At least don't get it and expect anything remotely resembling the traditional dish. It's a completely different thing. read more
An aesthetic and considerate Thai/Viet place I'd try again! Potential 5 stars Went here with some friends and was impressed immediately with nice outdoor seating and also the indoor aesthetic and vibe. Extensive menu with many choices and ability to customize around dietary preferences. Fast attentive service. I got the Thai egg benedict for brunch and my friends got drunken noodle and also a tofu banh mi as a vegetarian option. The Thai Benedict was very aesthetic and was impressed that they made the coconut biscuit from scratch and that they added shrimp and coconut rice and a watermelon. The flavors though were okay. The biscuit tasted like a wheat biscuit which was not really what I had in mind. The shrimp was plump and juicy though. My friends enjoyed their options. About $18 for the Thai Benedict after tax. Giving 4 stars for the food for now but definitely want to come again given all their options and would be happy to upgrade to 5 stars. read more

This is a super cute Thai/Vietnamese spot in uptown. I believe they have multiple locations. They do also have a cute outside patio. I came in today (Sunday) during brunch hours and was excited to try out the brunch menu. I love trying different and unique things, so i had to trie the Thai eggs Benedict. I also ordered a sugar cane juice. The Thai eggs Benedict starts with a Thai chili hollandaise- i couldn't even taste it. They need to double it. I asked for a side to take with my half that i couldn't finish- it was much better with the extra sauce. Then it had your standard poached eggs. The eggs were a bit under- the yolk poured out when cut open instead of oozing. I didn't love that but i prefer it to over cooked poached eggs. Next came spinach and shrimp on top of a coconut biscuit. It was very unique. I wouldn't say it was the best thing I've ever had but it was tasty and worth trying. I wish it had more depth of flavor like Thai and Vietnamese food have. Give me some chili garlic, scallion, ginger, lime flavor with it. The sugar cane juice was interesting to try. I didn't love it but I'm glad to have tried it. I hear fresh sugar cane juice is fantastic so i don't know if this isn't that fresh or i just don't have a taste for it. Both are possible. My dad ordered shrimp pad Thai. His friend had ordered it the night before and said it was amazing. It fell flat for him and he did not take his leftovers with him. He also said it could have more tang- would like more pickled or vinegar items and even some peanut sauce would be nice. The rice square appetizer served is interesting. I was hoping the dipping sauce was a peanut sauce but it didn't taste like much- maybe butter and other stuff? My friend and I shared the thai tacos with pork, kao sai, and the mee krob. We also were given an appetizer of sticky rice upon being seated, which was delicious. All of the food had amazing flavors with the option to adjust the spice levels to your liking, but I do wish the portion sizes were a bit larger for the price point. The service was phenomenal. We were seated immediately upon entering the restaurant and our server checked us on several times to ensure we were enjoying our food and filling up our waters. The food also was brought out fairly quickly as well. The restaurant has both seating inside and outside. The flavors are bold, and the noodles are not overly soaked/soft like many others. You are able to taste all flavors in every bite without sauce consuming the plate. The chicken Vietnamese soup is incredibly warming and always makes my stomach feel better like chicken soup for the soul. If you like edamame, order it! It's also some of the best I've ever had due to the salty yet unique seasoning they add on top of it. Their complementary sticky rice is addicting. I have no idea what the sauce is that's served with it, but YUM! You cannot lose with Malai. Thai meatballs are so delicious. The flavor is fantastic. You have a nice sweet and spicy to eat, and the highball is refreshing and has a pleasant light taste. It is perfect. The Benedict was excellent. I did like the flavor of the biscuits; I liked how it was different than other Benedicts because they put their flavor Thai flavor to it. The poached eggs are cooked to perfection. Overall, my experience here has been great. I'm glad that I came for brunch. I have frequented Malai kitchen in Uptown for many years now. Met a friend today, March 27, 2025 for lunch there. Half past noon and there was plenty of parking in the covered garage at the rear of the restaurant. No charge for parking here. Definitely earns a star. There were plenty of booths and tables available inside or outdoors on the patio. The two of us were seated immediately and provided water and menus. Be sure to check the chalkboard at the entrance for daily lunch specials currently at $12 which is a great deal. They are also described inside the menus. We also were given a complementary appetizer consisting of sticky rice and a spicy eggplant dipping sauce. We both enjoyed it. This earns another star. Our new wait person was very friendly and helpful. She was also attentive checking on us several times. The bus boy also kept our water glasses full. We both ate the Thursday special lunch, which was Laksa. As always, it was prepared to order and to our spice level of choice. Both of us truly enjoyed the Laksa. The servings were so generous that we had to take half of the Laksa home. For dessert we had a coconut sticky rice mango creation. For nine dollars it was extremely tasty and a wonderful presentation. I will definitely order that dessert again. So overall, this was a perfect lunch experience from parking until leaving. Malai Kitchen has no problems splitting checks. Another star. The unisex bathroom needed cleaning attention and that was taken care of immediately. We were told they do regular 30 minute checks of the bathroom anyway. Another star. So in summary this review details why they continue to earn five stars. Couldn't be any better. I haven't been here in YEARS and I miss this gem! From atmosphere to food to service. It's amazing!! Drink: I had the jalapeño margarita and it's fabulous. I love the salt they use. Food: shrimp spring rolls- Very unique way they do this and I love the twist they put on it. Gives it a unique flavor.
