I discovered Ginger's Pet Rescue through Tacoma WET NOSE DRY PAWS. I've read a couple of reviews on Yelp that have talked negatively about the application process without going to the event. Email responses with short answers or no answers at all... this happened to me and at first, deterred me but that last email I received was inviting me to an event where they would have adoptable dogs and try to find a suitable one. My husband and I originally did try to do an online process without having an idea of what really happens at Ginger's Pet Rescue. He decided to go ahead and talked me into going. Thank goodness I agreed. I've never been so happy and so lucky to find our new puppy, formally known as "Maximus". I asked a lot of questions because like any rescue dog from any facility...you don't know their psychological status or how they are in general. Ginger's Pet Rescue takes dogs from high kill shelters and from activists that save animals from being killed for food in places like Korea. Ginger's Pet Rescue doesn't have a facility where you can view dogs or go and adopt...the only way to interact is to go to the events the dogs are brought to or see if they are with a foster family. (Not all dogs shown on the website are at these events but there's always a chance.) We thought we could find the puppy we thought we had our hearts set on the website but we chose a different puppy that stole ours. At this event, all the puppies are set up on tables and there's a lot of volunteers around to help...we didn't know what etiquette was with their event...we were just happy to see puppies and play with them.** Ask a volunteer to take them out on a leash.** Bigger dogs were outside there weren't just puppies.. our preference was just young. Jeanelle was the volunteer that helped us and Maddy was our puppy's foster mom. We were so lucky that both of them were there. Maddy was able to give me tips for "Maximus" as what he was eating and some of his habits and her phone number if I ever had questions about him. **The application was very long but I'm just assuming that she has this process tries to have a standard for all her rescues just in case if you happen to have any issues with behavior with the dog or if you have to return the dog.** She's just covering her basis. Our puppy came to the United States on Wednesday of the week we adopted him on Saturday. He was a rescue from Korea that the activist group, ARK, saved. Sian from ARK called me a few days after the adoption to check up on the "Maximus". It was a very informational call. :) The day after that, Patti, Ginger's Sister, called to ask how "Maximus" was and to change over the microchip information. **Honestly, the amount of money versus what we paid for "Maximus" went to everything to get him here and make sure he's okay - plane ticket, vet bill, microchipped, shots. Well worth it and it is also tax deductible. We are so happy to have him as part of our family and we love him so much.** We look at him and find ourselves asking how we got so lucky with him. He doesn't have any psychological issues you would think a rescue would have. The phone call with Sian, she did state that we are very lucky because dogs that come from these type of meat farms actually know the terror they would have gone through. She also gave me insight into his previous conditions. The process in person with Ginger's Pet Rescue was so easy after we found "Maximus". This is an account of my firsthand experience with Ginger's pet Rescue! Ginger's Pet Rescue is the LAST PLACE I would EVER adopt a pet from!!!!! First of all, I'm not exactly sure why they are importing some of their rescue pets from all over the world, but that's probably the least of your worries if you get a pet from Ginger's!!! While attending firsthand at an adoption event yesterday in Bothell, one of Ginger's adoptable pets attacked a dog, sinking it's teeth deep into the dogs neck and wouldn't let go for at least a full minute!!! It was a HORRIFIC scene to witness and I have no idea if the mauled dog survived the attack or not as we left immediately thereafter!!! Ginger's quite obviously has no idea whatsoever about the history of the animals they are adopting out, but just imagine the scene if YOU had adopted this animal and it had done the same thing to your infant baby or small child!!! Yesterday you adopted a dog from Ginger's and today you might be planning the funeral of one of your children!! Is it really worth it??? Not from what I personally witnessed!! This is not a "rescue" it's a scam. Do some research. They buy sick and unwanted animals from backyard breeders/puppymills and then sell them at a huge profit, regularly failing to disclose important health info to the new owners. Since people have become aware of the puppymill problem these "rescue" scams have become very common online. Please don't support these practices, adopt from a rescue where you can actually see where the animal is being fostered or cared for. Buying from a reputable breeder is a more ethical choice that buying from people who keep puppymills in business! * In response to Ginger: Why do so many of your dogs "from overseas" have the exact same copy and paste story? How come all of these miniature purse dogs are being rescued from the "dog meat trade" in Korea when those breeds are far more valuable as pets in Asia? Why are there no records of these imports? Why are there so many reports of people adopting pets from you and then being stuck with medical costs on top of the adoption costs. Reputable rescues rehabilitate dogs BEFORE they adopt them out but when you're in it for the money you buy them cheap and quickly re-sell them in order to maximize profits. Why do former employees confirm that you do in fact buy from breeders and use the "rescue" as a front for re-selling dogs for huge "adoption fees" because those animals would never fetch those prices otherwise? Seriously, there are just SO many red flags it's surprising you're still able to convince people to go along with this insanity. read more

I emailed to inquire about a dog I saw on PetFinder. I asked if he was still available (I live about 2 hours from the rescue so wanted to make sure I wouldn't be wasting time by driving there). Ginger responded and said he had not yet arrived from Thailand but said I could look at other dogs at their Adoption event the next day (the adoption event was at a Cannabis store, um what?!). I emailed back and said that I would like to know when he arrived so I could meet him and that I would complete all necessary adoption paperwork. Her response to me was "How many hours a day will the dog be all alone while you are at work?" I understand this is a valid question but it is also included on the adoption paperwork. She also didn't tell me when the dog would be available. I wrote back and told her my current dog is not alone for more than 8 hours and I wanted to adopt a companion for him. I still have not received a response from Ginger and frankly I'm so upset about the way I was treated that I'm not quite as eager to spend $800. After investing a little more I found I am not the only one who has been treated this way. Also I saw on their Facebook page that this dog was to arrive on 6/18, our email correspondence began on 6/22 and the dog should have been available or at least arrived according to the Facebook page. Anyway I am super disappointed because this dog looked like a great fit for our family and I have also wanted this kind of dog since I was about 5 years old. I had heard warnings that these people pawn off sick dogs. I was fed some sob story about the dog being rescued from a puppy mill. Really it was dieing from cancer and has cost me thousands in the few months I had it. Don't trust these people. The dogs are sick as hell. Probably how they ended up ar this "rescue". read more

I submitted my app, and that very same night, received a call from Madelyn who was fostering this beautiful dog from S. Korea. I appreciated her responsiveness knowing how fosters are so busy, rescues so very busy. The next day I spoke with Sian and we chatted about Murphy and how I could provide him a new loving home, as well as his past and his demeanor. Madelyn met me half way on Saturday, with this bundle of energy! It was a perfect match. These ladies portrayed Murphy exactly as he was.. trained, curious, energetic and a GEM. I can tell you they have a passion for rescuing and fostering which is clear after the conversations with them both, and meeting Madelyn. I highly recommend this rescue organization. So many dogs need donations, and new homes. I was blessed with Murphy, and I believe that I have a lifelong relationship with these passionate selfless people who bring dogs to the US for the sole purpose of finding them forever homes. read more

Ginger's pet rescue has saved many death row dogs not only from Seattle, but from California and other states that have reached out to her asking for her help. The amazing thing is that Ginger's Pet Rescue rescues dogs from Taiwan, Iran and now China. Ginger not only saves dogs, she saves us humans as well. People from all professions and just ordinary people. Both the dogs and humans are given another chance of happiness and life. What makes Gingers Pet Rescue special and different from other organizations is that, the rescue is ran by fosters and volunteers which allows the adoption fees to help pay for the vet bill, food and supplies to the fosters that take in more than one dog who may need assistance. Many times Ginger would help those that are needing assistance with gas to get around or food for themselves and the dogs. The way this rescue is ran is near perfect. The dedication of the entire crew is incredible. The fosters do such a great job in caring for the dogs. It shows when the dog is dropped off at each adoption event. The whimpers and the look in their eyes when they see their foster leave is heartbreaking. If they don't get adopted, they get to go home with their foster. Another heart beating observation is seeing how happy the dog is when they see their foster returning to take them back home. I don't understand why people complain about Ginger's adoption fees being so high. Everyone should realize that healthcare is not cheap! The adoption fee goes towards the care of the next dog that gets saved and is needing vet attention. Some may need more care than the previous or vice versa. Ginger's Pet Rescue is indeed a non-profit organization. It shows because there is no fancy bldg that houses the homeless dogs . The volunteers and fosters make Ginger's Rescue a special one. I would like to see a caring donor that would contribute or sponsor a fundraiser that would allow this rescue the opportunity to raise a substantial amount to pay off their vet bill and to help aid more dogs that are needing attention. We got our dog Tucker from GPR. Great organization doing great work. We had no problems adopting him once we got the paperwork done and provided the information showing that we offered a safe environment for a pet. We felt the cost of $695 to adopt him was fair given that he had been pulled from a high kill shelter in California and flown up to Seattle. Additionally, he had been neutered, groomed, micro-chipped, fostered and received shots and a preliminary veterinary check-up. Sometimes the folks at GPR can be a little bit difficult to reach but they are spread very thin and from what I found out, they are almost entirely volunteer-based. The best way to connect with them is at an adoption event like we did before we even adopted Tucker. We gathered contact information from a couple of volunteers and Ginger. After that, we were successful in reaching them when needed. Tucker has been an amazing addition to our home. He is a loving dog who, because he had been a stray, does require some formal training. We look forward to working with him and watching him grow. In a few months we plan to adopt a companion for him. We will definitely use Ginger again. read more

We met our dog Tesla (formerly Totsie) at an adoption event at Sierra Fish and Pets. We came early, right as they were finishing setting up. There were many volunteers, but my husband, sister and I had the pleasure of working with Ginger herself. During our meeting, Ginger was thorough and wanted to make sure Tesla was going to the perfect home. After some questions and light prodding, we now have a very spunky, loyal and loving pup. I've been a volunteer and foster mom for Ginger's Pet Rescue for almost 4 years. My weekends are busy with adoption events and I've fostered and transported many dogs in these 4 years. These dogs are amazing and I will never understand how they got into shelters in the first place let alone be on the list to be euthanized. The rescue has many dedicated volunteers and fosters. I adopted my little guy about 4 years ago and I wouldn't trade him for the world. However, I do remember that I had concerns that were completely brushed aside. He supposedly came off a truck from Fresno, was neutered immediately, and put up for adoption the next day, probably still groggy from anesthesia. The adoption fee was more than $500, which I was told included neutering, vaccines, and a microchip. He got kennel cough the first week I had him. Not a big deal, likely from the place he came from, not the organization's fault. However, I noticed he didn't have his bordetella vaccine yet, and there was no record of a microchip. After some resistance, the organization agreed to give him the vaccine and the microchip, so I brought him back 1 week later. Two people took him to a back room and supposedly gave him the vaccine and chip. A few months ago, I took him to a routine vet visit, and they scanned him for a microchip, and it turns out he doesn't have one. So who knows what was happening in the back room and if he even got the vaccine that I paid for. I also paid for that microchip, which was not given. Hopefully, the organization has shaped up in the past 4 years, but I feel like I was robbed, and what happened was pretty shady. Anyone who has adopted from here and was promised a microchip should get their dogs scanned. read more

We just rescued a Jindo puppy from Korea through Ginger and we couldn't be happier! I love that she rescues these dogs from all over the world that would otherwise have a very horrible existence. The process was thorough but very easy on us and I liked that Ginger was careful about who would be adopting these puppies. This organization is very squared away which is something i always appreciate in a professional business. She cares about these dogs going to forever homes and about their well being after their adoption. She educated all of the new parents about what to expect with their new puppies so there wouldn't be any unexpected surprises. I have also had follow up phone calls to check in. Please check out Ginger before adopting an animal from her'rescue' non-profit. I had a very bad experience in adopting my dog - outright lies, deceptions and worse. Please read what volunteers for Ginger have written, how she operates and why so many businesses won't allow her to run adoptions associated with them. Pet Smart, Petco and numerous small businesses have banned her from running 'adoptions' from their places of business. That fact begs the question, why would they stop supporting a worthy non-profit? My story with Ginger is atrocious which is why I'm writing this review. Most people adopt an animal and never look back. I have always adopted my companion animals and I should have paid attention to the vast differences between Ginger and authentic adoption groups I've worked with in the past but I ignored the signals that set off many alarms. I wasn't suspicious but when I found out about my dog's real history, I couldn't ignore what I had found out about Ginger and her business. It didn't take long for me to realize how, and more importantly why, Ginger operates the way she does. Ginger is making a ton of money off of people who think they are doing something good by adopting a dog who needs a home. ( I paid a $450 'adoption fee' for my dog.) Many people have posted about Ginger's income from her non-profit, massive real estate purchases down to her never using the donations she took in to pay veterinarians who helped the animals she was making money off of. Ginger used volunteers to work for her (read some of the posts from people who thought they are working for the animals' welfare but realized it was Ginger that they are working for) and her epic history of 'working' with animals. Please do your homework before giving Ginger money. You won't have to look hard or long to find out the truth. I know my dog was meant to be with me and I'm so grateful to have him, despite of how he came to be in my life. I couldn't turn away from what I learned through my experiences and research. I'm not okay with Ginger lying to people, raking in money and taking advantage of people's good will. There are many real adoption organizations out there that are doing good, not posing as a non-profit but actually helping animals. If I sound upset, I am. Nothing can change what happened to me or my dog but maybe this post can help one person (hopefully more) to do the right thing and not support Ginger's business and the huge profit she is making. I adopted a dog from Mexico from Ginger's Pet Rescue. I had previously attended two adoption events and was interested in two other dogs, but they were already being adopted at the events. When I saw a third dog I was interested in adopting, I emailed Ginger, and attached another copy of my application. She said he was arriving at Sea-Tac airport that night and I could join up with the volunteers at the airport to meet him. Ginger said I could I pay the $900 before heading to the airport in case I wanted to take him home with me. If it didn't work out she said she would refund the fees. At the airport, the volunteers were caring and attentive with the 7 dogs delivered from the flight. I met the couple who were on the flight from Mexico as sponsors for 7 dogs on the flight. They were a "nice and normal" couple returning from a vacation. They brought all the official paperwork and Veterinary health certificates for the dogs. Each dog was friendly, of different mixes, and ages and looked very healthy. I fell in love with "Schnauz" immediately. I've renamed him Ramon. He is a "love bug" and a joy! He is a well behaved 3 year old schnauzer. Kind, good with my other two dogs and great with people and children. You can tell he received care and training before coming to the US for adoption. My other two female rescues still have psychological issues from their years of horrible lives before I got them, though they've both improved immensely since I've had them. Getting Ramon has been a blessing for them too because he is calm and attentive which has helped them calm down even more. The day after I got him at the airport, I took Ramon to my vet. He did tests and inspected him and said he's in perfect health. The next day I took him to my groomer and she said he was very well behaved and calm, I am happy with Ginger's adoption process and from what I've seen, she brings dogs in weekly, does adoption events weekly and finds great homes for many dogs each week. My boyfriend and I went to an adoption event yesterday in Renton and we had the best experience! The volunteers were all so sweet and helpful, telling us all about the dogs and going on walks with us to make sure it was a good fit. The adoption fee is high, but that is because they fly the dogs in from other countries and that gets expensive. I'm guessing the fees for bringing dogs in from overseas are pretty extensive, so we didn't mind spending a little extra $ knowing that it went to a good cause. I have tried to contact this shelter about a pup I am interested in, and they never responded. I finally just drove to the address posted and found out there is no location. All the pups are in foster homes. I love that the dogs are in homes, but I didn't enjoy driving around for 30 minutes trying to find them. I didn't enjoy all my calls being forwarded to a voicemail, when I finally got a number to text, I kindly asked about the information on the dog I wanted to meet. They just sent me an email address and still haven't responded to me. Fix your website and your information on Google/Yelp so that people don't try to find the rescue that you promote. I even walked into a coffee shop and asked, and they told me that it was located in an apartment where they dont have pets. You need to update this, it will help the pets get adopted more often. read more

First off, let me say I adore my terrier who came to me via Ginger's. I have zero complaints about her. But the organization is chaotic, unprofessional, and seemingly run by wackadoos. Ginger treated me as if I were a known dog abuser, made up things that she told me I said, was haphazard about paperwork, and gave me misinformation about my pup. But in the next minute, she was treating me as if I was part of the team and saving the dog. In probably 5 or 6 interactions, I never knew what kind of treatment I would get. I sat at an adoption event and heard her make wild guesses about a dog's breed and weight to put on a profile. Knowing that, I took a look at the profiles and they were remarkably similar and had nothing to do with the actual dog's likes or needs. If I had not adored the dog so much, I never would have subjected myself to that treatment. Couple that with the problematic legal history for the Lukes (it's public record. Look it up) and you are in for a wild ride. You may find a great dog through Ginger's, and of course those dogs deserve good homes. Just know you might be in for a wild ride and some emotional abuse. read more

This is a very suspicious organization. My daughter and I had been given a home visit with a dog and had just gotten to the point of paying the adoption fee when it was casually mentioned that this dog had serious health issues that would need medication for the rest of his life. There was no mention of this on his "history" and a friend of mine saw him available for adoption at an event the next day with NO mention of the serious health issue. Their adoption fees are exorbitant considering the lack of professionalism and disregard for the feelings of the animals or prospective families. After I said I didn't feel comfortable adopting the dog that we had been lied to about they thrust several other dogs on us very quickly and aggressively. My experience and experience of several friends combined make me decide this place is a sham. Time is not taken to evaluate dogs she brings in, therefore cannot provide adequate matching advice to prospective owners. Application is very skimpy and not verified. She claims the dogs are from Korea or California and charges new owner exorbitant prices. You can go into one of her adoption fairs and come out with a dog in less than an hour. Treatment is not fair to dogs or owners I highly recommend staying far far away from this outfit. read more

I've been a volunteer with Gingers Pet Rescue for 5 years, I also have adopted a dog from her and I love him so much. I couldn't imagine adopting from any other group. I love fostering for ginger because she has so many different breeds of dogs (and some other animals as well at times) I would highly recommend gingers Pet Rescue dog because they're spayed/neutered, are micro chipped and have their shots up to date. Then, at one of their adoption events, I introduced myself and inquired about the dog. Not realizing I was the person who had been promised the dog, she spouted off tons of bad qualities of the dog. I just became a foster volunteer recently. I dont know much about the operation of this rescue yet so I give it 4 stars for now. Dogs adopters, think this way, you pay $200 to $400 more for adopting a dog from Gingers' other than other rescues. Ginger will do full refund if your adopted dog is not a good match for you within one month. I adopted my dog from Puget Sound Rescue and they lied to me and did not let me contact foster home for enquiring about my dog. I paid $250 adoption fee and they just want to take my dog back without refunding me. I know my dog's foster mum kept her in crate for more than 8 hours while Ginger's rescue will not allow a foster home to do that. I don't want my dog to go back to her crate life and also that rescue gonna lie to other potential adopters about my dog's health condition. I kept my dog and paid a thousand dollars for her medical bill. She has uncommon sleeping disorder and other disorders with seizure activities which Puget sound rescue claimed that it happened after the adoption. All the vets I took my dog to did not believe it only happened to me. BTW,if you get a heathy dog from Puget Sound Rescue, I only can say "You are lucky"but it is not a reliable rescue.They are doing the right thing but not decently. They were harassing me who adopted their dog which made them seems very unprofessional. Ginger even offered me an easy dog to foster considering it is my first time to foster a dog.I insist to take a fearful and shy dog because I am willing to try my best to fix that dog and help it find a forever home. If you want to adopt a dog from Ginger's rescue, you should know that adoption fees are used for saving more dogs' life and sometimes Ginger's Rescue has to "buy" them in order to save them. I would like to acknowledge that she did the right thing here and I appreciate her reaching out. That said, it was only after I posted my review on Yelp. My vet emailed her prior to surgery, and I informed both Patti and Jeanine about the situation. Giving her the benefit of the doubt that she missed my vet's email and that her people didn't tell her, this still points to a lot of chaos and disorganization. Ginger let me know that they have 140 dogs in their care that currently need homes and my review would hurt their chances. It's certainly not my intent to harm these animals, but it does make me think that they are overloaded and do not have the organization and resources to properly care for all of these dogs, ultimately doing them a disservice. Conversely we've gotten dogs in the past from Save a Sato and SixDogrees. Both groups have significantly fewer dogs, but every dog under their care benefits from having complete medical records and they work to ensure each dog goes to a home that is appropriate for them. With both organizations we spoke at length with the foster caregivers, had our home inspected, our applications discussed. No dog will ever be perfect no matter where you get it from, but every dog deserves the best home for him/her and that starts with transparency. I truly hope moving forward Ginger and her team focus more on the needs of individual dogs rather than scale. And because someone PMd me to ask...yes, our pup has done very well post surgery. As he no longer has teeth, his tongue tends to hang out the side, but that just adds to his charm. read more

We adopted our dog Dylan back in Feb of this year (2020). We live in Mount Vernon, and I'd been scrolling rescue sites for weeks trying to find the right fit for our family. Our family dog of 14 years had passed a few months earlier, and we ready to bring in a new dog. I saw Dylan's profile and something about it stuck with me. His sweet face and description as an affectionate and mellow sounded right. We have two young children, and so we needed to ensure a good match. I didn't realize Dylan actually was at a shelter in CA. I was quickly connected within a couple of hours of my email to Cheryl, who was his point of contact. Cheryl took the time to thoroughly share with me all she knew about Dylan's temperament, and by the end of the conversation, we were confident in our choice. Cheryl shared with us the process for having him transported north, and we were able to download an app helping us expect exactly when he'd arrive at the drop off. The driving crew were kind, grateful, and were working tirelessly to get these pups to their new homes. Cheryl helped set the expectation that Dylan would need a bath and would be tired. He arrived, we helped him settle in, and we've been in love with him ever since. I'm grateful for all of the people who work hard to help these animals find the right homes. read more
