I am reviewing PAWS Cat City 501(c)3 for locals or visitors to Seattle U-District in hopes you will stop by, as they are really one of the cleanest and most comforting cat rescue/adoption center non profits I have seen! They have the hugest amount of big hearted volunteers and I will be one soon too and donated a large cat tree, and immediately the cats wanted me to take them home when they saw my donation. I found the staff to be all really educated, kind, humble and very caring about the conditions and play activities and space for the cats. They have several glass playrooms with huge space so guests can go into the rooms and really connect to the cats, lots of activity, stimulation and playtime, very comforting cat sleep places and it is super clean. By the behaviors of the cats, I know it really is a special foundation. We hope this post will inspire any locals or visitors to consider visits and donations of time or anything to support these cats into real loving kind giving supportive new family homes. Last week, we adopted Tako (aka Crispin), and he's been the greatest addition to our family. He loves to snuggle with us and is VERY food motivated and curious. He plays with the ribbon wand but is also happy playing by himself with the colored wool balls. Thanks so much to the people at PAWS who so wonderful and answered any questions I had about the kitties, including sharing medical history, diet, and all first time kitty owner questions. :) PAWS Cat City Adoption Center: The adoption center is located across from a day care or school in University District. When I walked in, it smelled clean and the meet and greet rooms were really clean as well! All of the kitties were just chillin in the rooms. Process: I found PAWS Cat City on Google maps when I searched cat adoption near me. I went to their website and kept checking for new kitties. When I saw a few that I wanted to meet, I just showed up the next day at opening (on a Thursday), let the adoption specialists know which kitties I was interested in meeting, filled out a form, and went straight into the meet and greet rooms. I spent about 20-30mins in the room observing and petting the kitties. While I was in the room, the adoption specialists came to check in every 10 mins and I was able to ask lots of questions. After I decided to take Tako home, I sat down with one of the adoption specialists and went through their packet. Someone also helped put Tako in the soft carrier that I brought. I ordered mine on Amazon, and since it's a soft one, it arrived folded up and didn't take up much space. I think they also have one-time use carrier or used hard carriers for purchase. I'd highly recommend PAWS Cat City for cat adoptions! I've seen some mixed reviews on how busy it gets on weekends, so I'd recommend stopping by during a weekday. read more

Not sure what the spate of bad reviews were about 6-7 months ago but I was prepared to be put on a waitlist and have a coffee next door to sit out our turn to see a beautiful little tabby found in a PAWS e mail we are subscribed to. Instead we walked in, filled out a one page overview that took 5 minutes & escorted into a private room to meet the cutest kittens, including the one we came to see. 45 minutes later we were parents of two spayed, neutered, chipped and vaccinated gifts, the last being more than what some humans did for themselves. We had to submit a questionnaire online and schedule a 30 minute visit to meet the kitty in person. And then when we decided to bring her home, PAWS took care of everything. I'll start by saying, overall it was a pleasant experience. The place is super clean and everyone was very nice! They sit you down and have a full conversation about the cat you're interested in and your home environment to make sure the situation is good for everyone. That experience was very great! The cat I got is very loving, follows me around the house, loves pets all the time, even gets a long with my current cat at home. What wasn't fair....even though they went over the state of health and vaccinations and told me this cat was healthy...she actually has feline HPV. She hacks and wheezes, sneezes and get snot everywhere and has now given it to my current cat who was actually 100% healthy (and now is not).... Having to hear my baby boy I've had for 3 years in full health now wheeze in discomfort is the most heart breaking thing all because I wasn't told this new cat was actually indeed sick. Having to treat both of them at the vet is not a cost I was expecting to have (something I didn't think I'd have to shell out so soon after getting her). I'm a heart broken cat mom :( read more

The day before we paid a visit to paws, my husband and I drove around to literally every single animal shelter in the area looking for a kitten to adopt. We even hit up a hole in the wall adoption center in the back of a petco- two times a cat that we had been interested in meeting had been adopted literally right as we walked through the door. I'm glad that there's a high turn over around here but damn! At the end of the long night my husband calls PAWS and the nice lady who answers the phone tells us that they have some kittens that will be available to adopt the next day who weren't listed on the website yet, and told us to keep an eye on the website in the mean time. So the next day when I get off of work, the first thing we do is drive over to meet the little babies and see if any of them are a good fit. We arrive an hour after the rescue opens and ALL of the new kittens are already either gone or spoken for except for one! We meet the gentleman who was fostering the kittens along with their mother (he works at the rescue) and he was the nicest, most caring guy to the animals. I could honestly tell that he cared deeply about the homes that the cats were going to and were going to miss them- he told us stories about the personalities of all the cats and in the 6 weeks that he had them it was obvious that he bonded with them and was sad to see them go. It's amazing to find a pet rescue with employees who actually care about the animals because again, we had been to every single one in the area and only here and one other place met that criteria. The majority of other pet rescues and adoption centers we visited weren't nearly as clean, nor were the staff as attentive and interested in the well-being of the animals themselves or where they'd be going. We were introduced to little sammie and really lucked out, she's such a good girl! The play area was very clean (as was the entire facility) and the cats all had plenty of room to hang out and play. There were a few sick cats (not achoo sick, feline leukemia sick) that were in their own room and needed single cat homes but they seemed well taken care of and happy to be there as well. We knew immediately that we would be taking her home so after we visited we filled out the paperwork, paid the reasonably priced fee and brought her home. It was an easy process and exactly two months later she is still healthy and thriving. She likes doing yoga with me, riding around in her cat-stroller and collecting corn dog sticks under the couch. I adopted a kitten from PAWS and was so impressed with the process and the care that Samwell (renamed from Mason) received while in their care. I submitted an application for Sam and had a call with someone from PAWS a couple of hours later to ask about why I want to adopt and my plans for integrating the new kitten with my existing cat. They were more than helpful and kind about our situation; they explained that the pre adoption form we filled out would be held on to for a couple months. My friend adopted a cat that actually have the chip installed but in a wrong place that made the kitty suffer. And she had to bring her to the vet for a fixing which costs her a lot! After that she also found out the kitty has flea. She then had to take her to the vet again for the past 2 weeks just to make sure nothing else the kitty is carrying... Worst shelter ever! This place told her everything is fine and it's all good and no details about the kitty got sick whatsoever. And when she asked for a refund for adopting fee for such troubles, they denied and not willing to say sorry at all. I hope everyone get a check up for the cats before adopting and sign all the paperworks! They are not responsible and very impolite with the whole situation. I'm so glad I found this place! I recently adopted a kitty friend from PAWS Cat City and the staff was so friendly and made it all so easy for me. The thing I love about this place is that unlike most shelters, they don't require you to be ready to adopt same-day, and they'll let you take your time and get to know the cats before you make that decision (you can also just go in to spend time with them regardless of if you're adopting or not). Of course, they can't guarantee that the cat you like will still be available if you choose to wait, but that's because their purpose is to find good homes for the cats as soon as they can, and if you need a little time to consider, there's a 24 hour hold option. The facility is pretty spacious and feels more like an apartment for the cats than it does a shelter, and that makes it a lot easier to meet the cats and get to know them. The place itself is clean and their prices for adoption and supplies are competitive and fair. Overall a great place. read more

We can't say enough about Cat City and PAWS! We've been involved with PAWS for many years, but had never had the need to adopt a cat until now. Our last cat died several years ago, and we hadn't decided whether or not we could go through losing another one. But, if you're "cat people", life isn't complete without at least one on your lap. So we checked the Cat City website, and saw Barney and Fred there. They are litter-mates, and needed to be adopted together. Lucky for us, we wanted two cats, and they filled the bill. They were almost one year old, but definitely still kittens, so they told us they'd be happy with us, and we brought them home. They are more entertaining than any movie or TV show, especially in this time of sheltering at home. PAWS is unique in so many ways, from their wildlife rescue and care facility to the dog and cat adoption side of it. There is truly no place like it! She told us to have a seat while filling out the paperwork and when I completed it, she said she would call in 30-45 mins. This was an unbelievably disappointing experience. Especially since my bf wanted to bring me here because he knows how much I wanted a kitten. Guess it just wasn't meant to be. Love this place. I was really jittery about adopting my own cat for the first time, so I bounced from cat room to cat room for about two hours and the volunteers were totally patient. I never felt rushed (well, until they came to tell me there was only 5 min left until they closed for adoptions, which I had known was coming and was on me for losing track of time). There were a bunch of cats that I was really liked, so it was more just a matter of being able narrow it down and positive gut feelings. In the end I took home my new BFF Lulu, now rechristened Sushi, and walking all over my keyboard as I write this. With their adoption materials, I was able to take her to the vet for a checkup for free, had a list of all her medical history, free food and litter from Mudbay, free 45 days of pet insurance...it was great. Protip: I found it really helpful to spend some time on their website the night before I came in, it lists all the cats currently available for adoption, so I narrowed it down a little in advance and came in with a mental list of cats I knew I wanted to meet. They can also hold a cat for 24 hours if you need to sleep on a decision. The only negative for me was just that it was a bit stressful since other people were coming in and adopting cats left and right much faster than I had anticipated while I was looking, so just be ready for that. But that's not PAWS fault, plus it's good to know that cats are finding new homes so quickly. read more

It was quite a shock when my mother-in-law's cat died suddenly. After a while, I made the gentle suggestion that she get another companion. She checked a couple of no kill shelters around the Seattle area but didn't have any luck. I took her here and after meeting nearly every cat in the place, she ended up falling in love with a small wisp of a kitten. The staff were very friendly and during our two hours there, I observed them interact with about ten separate customers. Some of them were clearly window shopping and just wanted to play with some cats, while others were ready to take home a cat that very day! During the adoption processes, the corresponding staffer was patient and answered any questions that arose. Each person who adopted a cat was given a folio with the cat's medical records, a coupon for a free vet exam*, a brochure of pet insurance (with discounts), and Mud Bay coupons for cat litter and food. The communal public tables were clean and so were the cat spaces and cages. Parking is street only so it's at a definite premium. I was prepared to drop off my MIL and wait nearby but I scored a spot right in front which meant I got to play with cats too! Be careful when you parallel park/pull back onto Roosevelt. I nearly got clipped by a car. *The free cat exam can be redeemed at Cats Exclusive and other vets around the city. I want to give a nod to Dr. Jennifer Fligiel and the folks at Cats Exclusive who have taken care of our cat since we relocated here. read more

I'm so happy that I came to cat city because I went home with my best friend! This is a really great place to look for a cat. My favorite thing about cat city is that the cats are in rooms instead of cages. It's so sad going to shelters and seeing the animals in such small places (and they always look so sad). This was not how it was at all at cat city! The rooms are nice and have big windows along the street and the cats just get to hang out and sleep and not be confined to a metal cage. You're able to go into the rooms so you can interact with the cats. I went in looking at one cat and when he didn't like me I said hi to another cat in the room and the rest was history! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and were so helpful in the adoption process. I was nervous to get a cat, and this was my first pet on my own but they answered all my questions. When I wanted to sleep on it they were very accommodating and let me come back the next day to make sure I was making the right choice. I was sent home with a really great folder: my cat's history, information on what to do after adoption, and coupons for food and litter. Included was also complimentary pet insurance (30 days) and a free vet visit! This helped me feel prepared in taking my cat home. So happy with my choice to go to cat city! read more

I connected with her early on in my visit, to the point that I was literally in (gracious) tears over how much I wanted her. I don't want to give a non-profit a bad review, because I'm guessing that my whole bad experience is based on one person's mistake, but you know what? She was rude and unapologetic about it so, it is what it is. Went in at 11:30am (hours posted are 12:00) to there being no line only to find out that we were 4th in line... Not only did we have to wait for kittens to be delivered, also had to wait for #'s 1-3 to show up and make up their minds... If you are going to open up your doors and pass out numbers before your posted hours, please let people know that this is your policy! I would have shown up at 6 am, went home, shopping, or whatever else. If we had shown up and been 4th in line, then fair enough. If you leave the line, then you are no longer in line. That's the way lines work. It's not fair, and it's not ok that Mr. #3 got to go have a nice breakfast when I've been waiting for 2 hours. OH PS He chose the kitten we wanted...of course. 5 Stars to Kaylin for understanding that this action, which is clearly nonsense, upset us and told us about a special program where, for a 100.00 fee, you get special treatment and matched with an animal without having to go through all the unfair bs and disappointment. First let me say that I have volunteered at PAWS Cat City for about a year. However, as a cat lover and having adopted cats from a variety of places over the years, I feel that I can fairly rate Cat City with 5 stars. Since I volunteer there, I also see how things operate and know many of the staff and volunteers and can say that the people involved with Cat City love cats. Cat City provides an open environment for shelter cats to live and interact with prospective adopters. The cats live in "colonies", each of which has 6-8 cats. The cats have places to hide, windows to look out, high perches to jump to, and warm blankets and rugs to sit on. Most cats seem to prefer this environment to a kennel, but in a few cases, cats are found to not do well in a colony, so are instead housed in kennels. The cats are well cared-for and watched over by many different staff and volunteers throughout the week, who are there every day of the week (and year) to clean up, feed, water, play, and provide love and attention to the cats. Cats are monitored for medical issues (most often upper respiratory infections) and sent to the PAWS vet if deemed necessary. Shy cats are socialized by volunteers and longer-term cats are catered to try to keep them active and mentally stimulated. Basically, the staff and volunteers try to do whatever they can to make the cats' stay as good as possible. The process of meeting the cats involves first filling out a simple survey and having a discussion with a staff or volunteer. This is to understand what the adopter is looking for and to make sure the home environment would be appropriate for a cat. Potential adopters are then free to meet with all the cats and kittens. Once a cat or kitten is chosen by the adopter, the adoption process is relatively simple and takes about 15 minutes. The adoption fees are pretty standard compared to other shelters. All cats are already spayed/neutered, are up-to-date on shots, provided with de-flea and de-wormer, and are micro-chipped. In my opinion this is a great place to come if you are ready to adopt a cat. Or if you're still not sure, stop by and check out the place and do a little "window shopping" until you're ready. Cat City usually has a wide selection of kittens and cats of all ages, colors, and personalities. You just need to see which cat is the best fit for you. I also wanted to dispute a few things mentioned by another reviewer. I'm sorry if anyone has a bad experience with Cat City. Some people have a disagreement with PAWS' policies or experience some miscommunication during their visit. I suppose there could also just be a personality conflict between two people. However, I would hope that Yelp reviewers could be rational enough to disagree, be disappointed, or frustrated, but not resort to name-calling and just being plain disrespectful in their reviews. State your opinion and why you think it, but don't mislead others with incorrect information. Yes, there is a survey to fill out, and yes, there is a short discussion with a volunteer or staff person about the survey. This is 1) to explain why the survey is being completed (to understand what the adopter is looking for in a cat and the environment that the cat would be going home to), 2) clarify any questions or answers that were unclear. It is true that people cannot go in to interact with the cats without going through this process. The survey and discussion go over many topics including: current pets, previous pets, housing situation, other people who will live with the cat, whether the cat will be indoor-only or indoor/outdoor (discouraged), view on declawing (very discouraged), etc. Anyone is welcome to browse around the facility and look through the many windows into the cat colonies without filling out a survey. This happens quite frequently. It is not true that PAWS will tell you which cat you must adopt. They try their best to match the adopter to a cat with the type of personality they are looking for (outgoing, lap cat, shy, talkative, whatever). Adoptions are more successful in the long run when the adopter gets the type of cat that meets his/her expectations. Also, PAWS would never tell a person they "have" to adopt a kitten - on the contrary, PAWS loves to see adult cat adoptions because the older cats wait longer in the shelter as kittens are generally chosen first by adopters. As for the number of cats to adopt - with adult cats you can adopt one or two or add to cats you already have at home. They will encourage you to adopt cats that will be more likely to get along with any other cats in your house. PAWS has policies that discourage adopting out single kittens. Kittens under 6 months old need socialization, ideally by another cat or kitten as well as by lots of time with the adopting family. PAWS is trying to do what is best for the kitten in the long run. read more

I adopted my first cat from Cat City ten years ago, but sadly she died a few months ago. I recently returned to adopt another cat and couldn't be happier. The whole adoption experience was excellent and I highly recommend them if you're looking for a feline companion. Go to their website, download and print their adoption questionnaire, fill it out and bring it in. They use it to screen potential adopters and help match you up with a cat whose personality will work best for you. On my recent visit a staff member showed me around and introduced me to several cats who matched my needs--the only hard part about adopting was choosing which kitty to take home with me! The adoption fees are very reasonable, the cats are all spayed/neutered and microchipped. They also give you a certificate good for a free veterinary exam. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Stop in today and bring home a new friend! Also note, they are moving to the University District soon! read more

This may be an unfair rating since we actually did not go inside. While waiting for our laundry to finish washing we walked about a block and saw the sign, Cat City. Of course HUGE cat lover that I am I could barely control my enthusiasm. We looked in the windows and saw cats and kittens in large, clean, lovely rooms with climbing structures, toys, food and water. One room had the older cats while sedate, gently bumped the window when i put my hand up. They were so sweet I could easily adopt one of them. The other room was full of kittens--snoozing, leaping, chasing, rolling over, stretching, yawning, grooming, etc. They came in all colors--brown tabby, black and white, gray, black and butterscotch. The butterscotch striped kitty, Jimminy Cricket, was so darn adorable and playful. If I lived in Seattle I would definitely adopt a cat or two pending approval from the Rinky family and our two cats. read more

Recently overheard: "We adopted our beautiful (green eyes!) 9-week baby boy here. At PAWS Cat City." Happiness is a contented cat. * * * * * After a lapse of over 18 months, I made a return visit to PAWS Cat City. I am happy to report that I feel that it now "cuts the mustard," to use a cliche. But then I'm one of those odd people who thinks (1) kittens are tons cuter than any ruddy, chubby, runny, fleshy (Note that I haven't mentioned "howling") human baby, and also that (2) felines--despite having survived for centuries under the direst of conditions in blighted urban areas as well as in the wild--are indeed a superior species in terms of sensitivity (tactile, aural, visual, olfactory, affective), beauty, spirit, and sheer grace so my opinions are partial. P.A.W.S. plopped itself in a small nondescript storefront in the heart of the eclectic, laid-back, now trendy Greenwood neighborhood and became one of its most charming businesses, a non-profit at that. There is no other place I know in the Greater Seattle area that treats its temporary residents with such nice digs. There are usually only a few cats in cages--the overwhelming norm for animal shelters. One might think one had walked into a feline commune, with cats plopped down nonchalantly in two small, clean, modestly but comfortably furnished rooms. Each cat or kitten has claimed a space on a perch, pillow, scratching post; or in a cubicle, cubbyhole, or tunnel. (I also must have been a cat in at least one of my previous lifetimes. I know a contented cat when I see one). The volunteers I met this visit were actually much nicer than the ones I had encountered on previous visits. Older volunteers, in particular, have a relaxed wisdom that the younger ones, being probably too revved up about being that age, seem to lack. That PAWS Cat City has stayed open the past six or so years is a testament to its dedicated corps of volunteers. * * * * * What do human beings and cats have in common (in the early 21st century)? These people love the cats! The building itself has three picture windows where you can see the cats and kittens play and sleep. Often you walk by and just watch them and laugh, just seeing them you can feel the stresses of the day leave and it is so much fun just watching them. You feel out a survey before you can see a cat for adoption, they determine which cats would be best for you, then you can go and have time with the cats. We were looking at a cat named Bugsy about two weeks ago and had planned on adopting him after our trip to Whistler. When we came back Bugsy had found a home, which made me sad. I then noticed a three legged cat named, "Slick". He is an Orange Tabby and he seemed to really like me, but I had my sights set on another cat named "Frenchy". I would go in to the area where Slick was and petted him and he took to me and I could tell he was the cat I wanted. So, I finished the application, and paid the cost of adoption and a city license. Included is a free visit to any Vet office, so we have scheduled that next week. If you are from Paws Cat City and remember "Slick", let me tell you that he loves it here, and he purrs a lot. He has run of the house, and we have many new toys for him. He follows me wherever I go and he sleeps next to us. Thank You Paws Cat City for giving us Slick, he is very much loved, and we are so happy to have him in our family! UPDATE: Paws gives the new owners of cats a certificate to go to the vet, our Slick is very healthy, and believes our cat was born with only three legs. It has been over a week with Slick and he purrs like crazy, he is so loving and is feeling very comfortable with us. We got him two new climbing posts and he loves them. Must... refrain... from writing... review... filled.. with cat noises. Okay, operation Self Control is a go. My boyfriend and I adopted brothers from PAWS about 3 months ago. Their integration into our home and growing up (they were kittens, 2 months old and 2 pounds light, when we got them) has been a daily adventure. I should think it goes without saying that I love Topher and Riley to pieces. As for the things that PAWS actually has control over, I have been equally thrilled. Two kittens same day adoption runs you $200 even, which considering it included: -- neutering (or spaying for the ladies) -- microchipping -- a buttload of coupons for free food and litter at Mud Bay -- a free vet check-up at one of many, many accepted locations around the greater Seattle area, it was a STEAL. Don't even get me started on the value of the companionship ;-) I'll echo the impressed sentiment with how few cats are kept in cages. My understanding from reading some of the signs was they were troubled cats and so it made sense to me. On a more personal note, I grew up near the original Greenwood location of this store, and my mom used to indulge 6-year-old me by stepping in to play periodically. I have never experienced anything but kindness and a fostering of understanding for the felines who may have had rough beginnings from the staff here. Going back more recently, I had the exact same experience. These people are passionate and know what they're doing. ...humor me for two seconds? Topher purrs and headbutts in agreement. This fit with my cunning plan of adopting adult cats so that was no problem for me. I had to take 5 minutes to fill out a form with my info and pet owning history before I could meet my potential buddies and I also had to review my form with a staff member. I felt great taking this time because it showed me that they care about every animal they adopt out. ***There was an interesting incident after I had been let in to the cat room where a corporate honcho type woman thought the staff were "judging" her for wanting a cat when she admitted she traveled 3 weeks out of the month. The staff were polite but they did question who would take care of the cat. The woman left muttering about "customer service" (This ain't Neiman Marcus , lady) and I gave the staff a wink and smile. Selection: Upon entry to the cat room I was immediately accosted and "Moo'ed" at vociferously by Princess Fantastico (nee Druid)a teeny weeny 2 year old female torti. Further exploration was arrested by her trying to kill/scent mark my ankles. I'm not a believer in love at first sight (ask the Honey) and tried to branch out and get to know the other applicants, but every approach was "kitten blocked" by Fantastico. She had me marked as a sucker from the get go. Eventually, I met Tuggles (nee Scrappy) a 5 year old tabby Manx with a nubbin tail who sort of looks like a stripey meatloaf. To every" Moo" he would reply with a "Meh", I knew we were destined to be together. The staff gave me a little space to see if they would get along and as anyone with cats knows "getting along" means not killing each other when confined to the same space. They reacted with indifference and thus an Evil Duo was born. Please consider this or any other shelter when you feel like getting a buddy. There are so many great pets out there that no one needs to buy from a pet store ever. I must go now as Tuggles is giving me a 2 star "Meh" for his lack of prompt service at the food dish. read more

I love this place, they really genuinely care about the cats. My wife adopted a cat here and had a very pleasant experience., we love our precious Butterball. I think it is great they ask people for a little personal information and conduct an interview before just handing over one of their cats to any asshole off the street. We adopted a kitten here recently and when we brought her home, we noticed that she was not as healthy and active as a normal kitten should be. The shelter put her up for adoption two days after her spaying surgery and didn't give us much info about the type of food she ate or her behavior/personality prior to the spaying. This kitten was lethargic for over a week and would throw up, not eat enough, not play, and sleep all day. We reached out to the shelter regarding these concerns and they were not helpful at all and shamed us for not taking her to the vet right away although we assumed she was just adapting to a new environment. Luckily, we took her to the vet and resolved it on our own but my main issue with this place is their lack of communication and information given to prospective adopters of their cats. read more

I went into Cat City to meet a cat named Butterscotch who I had found on petfinder.com. I immediately drove to Cat City and asked if I could meet him. Everyone was very nice and helpful. They had me fill out a questionnaire and within ten minutes I was in a room with the kitty I saw online. Without a second thought I adopted him. He is an angel and the best cat I have ever met. He is always by my side and wants nothing more than to cuddle and play all day long. It is as if we were meant to be! I HIGHLY recommend going to cat city if you are in search of a new feline friend. I love this place. And I hate this place. The cats/kittens are beautiful and amazing. My favorite neighborhood store to walk by. But I hate that they have to be here. Last Saturday I went to cat city to look at different cats and kittens. Although we didn't find the kitten we ended up with from cat city we did end up going to another PAWS because our experience here was so positive. The staff was kind and caring and you could tell they all had enthusiasm about cats and getting them into good homes. They gave us lots of papers on each cat we looked at and during the interview process we really felt heard and validated about our choices. I really like the open room concept of Cat City. We were recently looking for a kitten, and I did a lot of looking online, especially through Petango, where many area shelters list their pets for adoption. PAWS's listings hadn't been updated with photos, but after striking out at Seattle Humane Society, we decided to check out Cat City. First off, All of the Cat Condos (rooms) have huge windows where the cats can see out, and visitors can see in. We arrived 10 minutes before opening and were able to scope out the available cats playing while we waited. We first met with an adoption counselor who went over our the ASPCA Meet Your Match form to help us find the right cat for us. We then got to meet the cats. Having the cats and kittens together in a "natural" habitat was refreshing (we had seen other shelters where the kittens were in small cages). We were able to interact with all the kittens and fell in love! We were given a huge folder with information & coupons, plus a letter & photos from our new baby's foster family. I really appreciate that Cat City only adopts out so that you don't have to see the heartache of people dropping off unwanted pets (the Lynnwood location takes care of this). PAWS also offers to take back adopted pets if you are not happy; this will not be a problem! We are in love with our little sweetie, and he is not going anywhere! read more

Back in January, our beloved cat passed away - she was nearly 19, and had been with my husband her entire life, and in mine for over 5 years - and we were pretty well devastated for a while. We knew we needed a cat in our lives, so around April I started researching pet adoption agencies, and came across Cat City. Their website was easy to navigate, had useful information, and every time I called someone professional, kind, and well-informed answered the phone. On Thursday, we found there were a few female kittens available, so we finally stopped in: the facility was clean, bright, and welcoming, and the cat areas were cozy and very well-arranged. The staff are absolutely concerned with finding you the right match - not just for your sake, but for the sake of the animals, which is kind and responsible, and something I absolutely respect. After you fill out a very short survey, you can go in to see the cats, and pretty much you can stay in there as long as you need to. The cats were comfortable, with lots of perches in their habitat, and were tremendously well-socialized. My husband and I looked at some of the 2 month old female kittens, but it was an amazing, sweet 3 month old male named Chuck who charmed us. Neither my spouse nor I had any experience raising male cats, so we were conflicted: we asked the staff some questions about them, and they were very understanding and knowledgable. We decided to leave and think about it, and they assured us they'd keep our survey on file. Our departure, however, was short-lived: not 2 hours after we got home we realized we couldn't stop thinking about Chuck, so we raced back and adopted him. Cat City made this process very easy, giving us information on his medical records, a coupon for a free vet exam, a discount on pet insurance if we wanted it, a free microchipping, and a BIG discount on pet food and litter from Mud Bay (right over in the University Village). They made the adoption process swift and painless, and encouraged us to call or email with any questions. Chuck's now home and settling in wonderfully, it's less than an hour until his very first vet appointment, and both my spouse and I are grateful for all the kindness and hard work of the Cat City staff to bring all this about. tl;dr version - they're great and nice and make everything easy.
