    Comedy night
    Dani N.

My friends and I visited Gingers on a Thursday night for their monthly free comedy show. When you route here you can put in Barley Mash then just head to the back and downstairs to find the Gingers bar. It's a smaller, somewhat classy dive bar with a handful of bar seats, community tables, and couches facing the "stage." Their cocktail menu is based of things from Anchorman, including drinks like Stay Classy and Human Torch. If you are attending something downstairs at Gingers you cannot order food from upstairs while down there. You can either order flatbreads downstairs or go up to Barley Mash, order food, close out and bring it downstairs with you. We ordered flatbreads! I had the pesto chicken accompanied by a cucumber mint mojito. It was marvelous and oh so filling. The bartender was pretty rude, very short with everyone and had little personality, but the waitress working throughout the comedy show was sweet and attentive. The comedy show host had good spirit too, performing the opening act and giving little did bits between performers to engage the crowd. So average 4 stars for staff over all. The comedy show itself had 5 acts and was well worth the visit! 3 out of the 5 acts were absolutely hilarious and one name Alec Parents had us crying laughing not even half way through. It was a really great show and I could tell the host put a lot work into it so I give them props for making it memorable. I would definitely come back for activity like such here again. I don't recommend driving/parking as you will most likely be drinking and Gingers is located in the heart of downtown so good luck finding a spot. Check Facebook for future events to come.

I went to San Diego for my birthday weekend with my sister and my friend. We were looking for a cool place for drinks and good music (hip hop). A security guard from another bar recommended Barleymash for good music. That place was madness so we decided to leave BUT as we were walking out we saw the stairs leading to a lower level. We decided to check it out in hopes of finding good music and not an overly crowded bar. And that's exactly what we found at Gingers! Cool vibe, good music, great drinks and an awesome bartender named Amy! She was very attentive and beautiful! I would definitely go back when I'm in San Diego.

Ginger's curious... double meaning lol! SIKE or maybe not, but either way I really enjoyed this spot last month. It totally reminded me of a speakeasy which I digged. This is a hidden gem beneath *Barley Mash* after taking the stairs down, it's a different world below. The cocktail menu has a fun selection with crafty cocktails. I love the decor and overall ambiance here. They play great music and it was pretty crowded the Saturday night I came by. The bartenders are all nice and they make stiff drinks which is a plus. 4 Stars for strong and yummy drinks in this lounge bar that has a nice atmosphere.~

I…read morewanted to give them another go since our first experience didn't live up to the hype that surrounds this establishment. My husband and I just finished our dinner at Teleferic Barcelona when I suggested we give Raised by Wolves another try - as we had about an hour before picking up the kids. For a Saturday, I was pleasantly surprised that as walk-ups we only had to wait a few minutes before we were seated at the bar inside. While we waited, we enjoyed perusing their bottle selections for purchase and I'm happy to say that playing music slightly louder in the waiting/market area helped dull the sounds from the inside bar. It helps create more of a 'moment' when you sit at the fireplace and slowly turn inside. This time we were seated right at the bar, which was perfect for us. Chuck was our bartender and 10/10 on the cocktails he made. This time, I went with their Tiki Room and my husband an off-menu Boulevardier (which I have to say I'm impressed he knew what that was because even I didn't, lol). Both drinks were perfectly crafted and enjoyed by both of us. We only had a moment for just one drink this time, but I have to say our experience was so much better than our first (perhaps a fluke of an evening). The staff were all welcoming and knowledgable, other guests were dressed well, and the ambiance lent itself to the vibe we were looking for. After doing some homework, I made the connection that Raised By Wolves was part of the hospitality group that also owns Lafayette Hotel, The Baby Grand, Ironside, etc...all locations my husband and I absolutely adore. Happy to support such amazing places around San Diego and I look forward to more!

I purchased a $33 bottle of Amaretto that said it had a cookie essence. Bar Entry: The hostess will check ID and then you sit or stand on the platform and it slowly spins you around to the inside. Bathrooms are on the left and exit on the right. Our server was great and listened to what we wanted in a drink and offered options. Tried: Amuse $4 - we were celebrating a birthday so these were offered as birthday shots. Amaretto sour $18 - very good. Smooth and not too strong. French kiss - very strong. Didn't like this one. Mint mojito mocktail (aka dealers choice) $11 - this was so good and refreshing. I love the atmosphere inside. We were seated in throne like chairs which was very cool. A good speakeasy spot to take friends and dates!

DRINKS: 9/10 The cocktails were creative, well crafted, and definitely strong enough to make you feel like you were getting your money's worth. I also loved how much attention they put into the presentation. Every drink looked like a piece of art and added to the whole tiki experience. SERVICE: 9/10 The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. They took the time to answer questions and made great recommendations without making us feel rushed. AMBIANCE: 10/10 This is easily the highlight of the experience. The entire space is beautifully designed, and every little detail makes it feel like you've escaped into a hidden tropical bar. It's cozy, intimate, and unlike any other place I've been to in San Diego. Reservations are definitely worth making since the space is on the smaller side and fills up quickly. The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that, while the experience and ambiance were amazing, the drinks are definitely on the pricier side. I understand you're paying for the craftsmanship and atmosphere, but it's probably not somewhere I'd visit regularly because of that. It's common for tiki bars to be pricey so it was to be expected. Overall, I'm really glad I finally got to experience False Idol. If you're in San Diego and enjoy creative cocktails in a one-of-a-kind atmosphere, I'd definitely recommend checking it out at least once!
