I grew up in Kearney and had been to Gino's a couple of times as a teenager, but my boyfriend and I decided to give it a try last night. It was, by far, better than I remember! Gino's is a family-owned restaurant located on the historic main drag in Kearney. The place is a little small, but on this particular night they were not overly packed. The noise level was ok for me, but I could certainly see how it could get pretty noisy if they are very busy. Our service was fantastic. When we first sat down, we decided to order drinks. I wasn't sure what I wanted, so the waitress made a suggestion of grape vodka with sierra mist. She said she had a customer who ordered it with every visit. I was hesitant, but it ended up being delicious! My date is a fan of a nice whiskey and ordered a Bulleit Bourbon. The waitress went to ask the owner if they had it. Gino came to our table and said that they did not have Bulleit, but they did have a 15-year-old bourbon he would open for him. It was brought in a little whiskey tasting glass and given a big thumbs-up. Dinner continued in the same fashion. The homemade mozzarella sticks were recommended to us by the waitress, and they were pretty good. Crisp and warm, and they came with a marinara sauce that I personally didn't care for, but I'm not much of a fan of red sauce anyway. My boyfriend enjoyed it. For our meals, I ordered the chicken broccoli, and he the fettuccine alfredo with chicken. Both were fantastic! We followed dinner by sharing a slice of New York style cheesecake. Oh my.. we were beyond full, but everything was so delicious. Imagine our surprise when the bill came, and our total was less than $50! We were only charged $5 for the whiskey, and he easily was given about three shots' worth! Between the good food, the fair price, and the excellent atmosphere (Gino visited with us for quite some time, and wandered around the restaurant singing to his guests), I would definitely, HIGHLY recommend this place for a good Italian dinner! read more

They have an extensive wine and alcohol menu and if you frequent the restaurant they will bring in something special just for you! Every time we visit Gino's, we leave satisfied. The food is good and the bread unlimited. We usually start with their fried mushrooms, which are better than most and I get Pasta con Broccoli. I've never been disappointed. The main attraction, however, is the atmosphere. It is always attractive and is quite festively decorated for the holidays. The owner is as entertaining as he is attentive. As he passes through the dining room, he checks in with each diner. Periodically, he starts singing along with the ambient music. I was traveling to Kansas City, MO with work, and was staying in Kearney, MO. I was looking for an Italian Restaurant in the area for the group of 8 that we had. Yelp directed us towards Gino's Italian Cuisine. When I saw posts that Gino sings to his guests, I knew we had to give this place a try! Just like the other reviewers have said, this is a family owned and run business. They had no problem accommodating our party of 8. The drinks took a little longer then expected, but Gino kept us entertained while we waited. Our crew thought the food was delicious, the portions very generous and the prices were not bad either. There was a fried cheesecake dessert that we all shared which was amazing! We will definitely visit this restaurant again if we are in town! read more

We went for a nice Valentine dinner. There were many tables open and they weren't doing reservations so it surprised me when the man guided us to a table right next to the kitchen. I asked if we could sit not so close and he moved us one table over. 20 minutes later I went back to the host and told him we had been sitting there for 20 minutes and nobody had spoken to us. 5 minutes later they take our order. 25 minutes or so later a different staff member asked if we needed anything. We said our food. It turned out they had cleared our order. So twice we had been ignored and forgotten. The food was very good though. read more

Referred by friends- excited for something local. Took advantage of a very rare evening of just myself and my sons to give it a try. Cute, cozy restaurant. Was told upon entering they were offering a condensed menu for Valentines weekend. Ok, I guess... Don't know any better. Gentleman crooning a little Frank Sinatra, I knew there was singing- but I thought it was occasional- nope. All.meal.long. Loud! Sadly we saw the tune crooner more than our waitress. I guess she knew better than to hang around so We could not complain about the horrible mozzarella sticks (looked like BK chicken fries) soggy salads, all 3 dripping in dressing and paper thin steak so tough (Medium rare no less) my teenage son needed his moms help to cut. Server sure did appear quick to drop the check and immediately take our cc, only to come back to tell me she mis charged me for an item and now my bill, for an awful meal, was now even more expensive. Just tried Gino's for the first time. My wife and I both had the sampler platter. The marinara sauce was excellent, slightly sweet and spicy. All the pasta (lasagna, penne, fettuccine and ravioli) was perfectly al dente. I don't think I have ever had ravioli that was al dente before. Not pretentious. Our sever was attentive. Kearney doesn't have a lot of eating establishments to choose from, but one you can count on to provide some really excellent Italian food is Gino's. We frequent it often, pretty much 3-4 times a month. The family owned and operated staff are personable and attentive and the food is authentic and delicious. I overhear people say it is well worth the drive to eat here and I would certainly back that statement up for anyone looking for a great Italian place outside of downtown KC. read more

The authentic Northern Italy, Sicilian menu is good. Not fantastic, but for the small town of Kearney on the northern fringe of KC, it's worth the price. The owner, George, is very personable and entertaining. He walks around making sure all the customers are happy and satisfied with their dinner choice. For example, he offered more marinara sauce for our spaghetti dinner because he thought it looked a little dry to him. The charming part is his vocal talent. As he's walking around he joins in with whatever italian-flavored song playing overhead. Typically Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, and the rest of the gang. Terrible chicken marsala. Chicken was like rubber and the marsala sauce was pretty tasteless. Messed up my order and husband was finished with his so-so lasagna before my food came. Unexpected friendliness and good food. The Caesar salad was made with high quality Romaine lettuce with just the right amount of dressing, cheese, and home-made croutons. Warm bread. Had chicken and broccoli with fettuccine Alfredo that was very good. The apple tart was very good with tart apples and cinnamon pastry with sweet ice cream. There was no authentically true Italian food at this restaurant. Being a new York girl, my expectations weren't very high especially in such a small town, but went due to a wedding rehearsal. Personally, Gino's wasn't an adequate place for this type of engagement. No private party room and was very cramped in the restaurant. Noise from other diners was very loud and we could not hear any speeches people were giving. Music played over head was entirely too loud which only raised the noise level of voices. The staff was personable and friendly but were overwhelmed with a busy night. I guess people who frequent this establishment really don't know Italian food as it should be. The tomato sauce was tasteless, pasta was swimming in the sauce and pretty much Inedible. The pasta tasted par boiled from earlier in the day and recooked prior to serving. Every dish served was literally swimming in their tasteless sauce. I really wanted to go in the kitchen and teach them how to make a simple tomato basil sauce but didn't think they had any fresh ingredients. I guess they are the only game in town for Italian food, and I use that description loosely. I feel sorry for the local folks if that's the best they have. read more

We love Gino's! My kids, who are extremely picky, ask to visit Gino's on a weekly basis. They love it not only for the food, but also because of the fun, friendly staff. The owner stops by to chat with every table to make sure that everything is perfect, and normally gets a big laugh from our kids. My husband and I are also huge fans, of course, and never visit without ordering the homemade cheese sticks as an appetizer. Order them; you won't regret it! The food is just average, not great. This was my first visit, not sure I would go back. The acoustics could be improved greatly. I could hear the conversations around me, but it was difficult to hear my date. The service was acceptable-she was polite-but she refilled drinks incorrectly. A diet soda was refilled with tea. so good!! we stopped for lunch while traveling from Iowa to Oklahoma and it was so nice to go to a small, local place rather than a large chain in the city. we split the Gino's Sampler and it was enough food for two adults and a child (and then some!). I think our 16 month old ate more than we did... he devoured it. the red sauce was sweet and smooth- just how we like it. alfredo was perfect. service was fantastic and dining room was cozy. we will be back! read more
