This is everything you'd want a breakfast/lunch café to be. Efficient, pleasant service, affordable, and totally willing to customize orders within reasonable ability. (Substitutions and additions to menu items are willingly accommodated, although I've not pushed the limits with over-the-top requests.) I live just next door, but even if I didn't, I'd be a regular if I were in the area for any other reason. I've done both breakfast and lunch about a dozen times now, and never had a bad experience. There's a reason that they have a customer-made piece of art celebrating their 25th anniversary, and even that looks to be about 7 or 8 years old now. Good Sandwiches, But A Remarkable Lack Of Lunchtime Flexibility SITREP Customer service is important, and it doesn't happen in a vacuum. Nor is "dismissive" customer service tolerated by choice - with it's increased time & frustration - when you make the effort to patronize a business but they do not serve you in a reasonable fashion, especially when other businesses options exist for you and who are vying for your dollar. Gino's is already open - since they also serve a breakfast menu - and as it happened, I'm walking from meetings in one area of downtown back to my office which "fortuitously" takes me right past Ginos, a place I often grab sandwiches from time to time anyways. However, it's 10:52am and I'd like to get back into my HQ office to catch a meeting and give a report - but the lady says they aren't going to serve lunch until precisely 11am, even though the prep-person isn't busy (or slammed like they are at 12noon), and they already have an array of lunch sandwiches out in the display (none of which I want since there is a fresh-made combo I much rather prefer). It begs the question as well: as it's closing in on the 11am hour on a mid-weekday, is one more inclined to grab a breakfast item or a lunch item? Or at least be ready for both? And with respect to clock-time, a spot that is ALREADY open & doing business since the morning wouldn't need to be as restrictive as a spot just opening at 11am. THE SETUP Gino's makes good sandwiches. No question about that. Some other sandwich spots, I find better, such as Mr. Pickle and Dad's, but by comparison, require MORE time & effort to get to (especially if you have to bring a car into the equation). So one *balances* out factors, such as 1. proximity, 2. travel-time involved, 3. price, 4. the last time you already patronized one business (because you want to shake up your routine and not fall into a rut), etc. etc. Taking these factors - and other considerations (ie. lunch mates, digital coupons, etc.) - will drive your selections. PEER-RESOURCING The thing about peer-resourced reviews - such as they exist on TripAdvisor, Facebook, Yelp, and other platforms - it doesn't only allow for reviews about common experiences from one business - it also is applicable in COMPARING experiences among SIMILAR businesses. When making this analysis, it makes me realize that other nearby spots are more customer service friendly and will continue to get - with an increase - of my lunchtime attention: * Waffle Square or Old Ironsides (both at 10th & S) * La Bou (11th & O), * La Croissant Café (11th & P), * Dad's Sandwich Shop (13th & S) * the nearby CalPERS Café (4th & P), or * even our downstairs cafeteria Places that have decent (some better) sandwich options, with the added benefit that they aren't going to quibble with you at 10:52am, 10:45am or even 10:30am that it isn't 11am yet. THE LOWDOWN Being customer service savvy and ready for your customers when they are making the time to come to you makes a BIG DIFFERENCE. read more

I really try to give small businesses a chance while on my lunch break at work, but this place reminds me why I'd rather bring my lunch instead. The lady at the counter was unpleasant & side-eyed me while pointing to the pay screen for me to leave a tip. My "build your own" turkey sandwich was skimpy, on regular wheat bread, didn't even come with cheese AND they forgot my pickle spear on the side ... all for $8.25 ($8.97 with tax). This same sandwich used to be priced $5.75. Booo ... shame on Gino's for charging so much for such a wack sandwich and poor customer service! read more

Gino has a lot more than Java and Juice. I've lately been addicted to the morning bagel veggie sandwiches (whoever said they're stingy on the cream cheese should go to a few of the other places in the area that have bagels and compare again. They placed two packets in my bag, which was more than enough.) and the Italian Chopped Salad. Yum. They have a creamy balsamic dressing here that is to die for. Sammies are also delicious and fresh. The coffee is satisfactory, and I've not tried the supposed juice yet, but it's on my list. Service can be slow, but prices are low and the staff helpful. It's a pretty small eatery if you're planning to spend your lunch here, even with the two or three outdoor patio tables. It's located at the bottom of the Capitol Towers apartment tower. I appreciate how close this stop is on these hot days of late, when I walk to and from the light rail and my office. But If you are looking for a place where you get no respect, food order made incorrectly, poor food handling standards (based on their health codes) and an owner who doesn't give 2 $hits about the customers then this may be the spot for you. Love their coffee and bagels! Same prices as Starbucks with better quality products. Bagels are always fresh and come with cream cheese on the side so you can spread it yourself. I go there often and today there were 2 sharp pieces of plastic in my avocado toast. They also didn't even toast the bread. If i had not seen these in my toast that would have hurt going down :( if i fed this to my 1.5 year old i would have been pissed. they need to be more careful when cooking. (Pics attached) they also aren't the nicest there. Even when they aren't busy the lady doesn't make much convo back when i ask how her day is, and they have a SUPER strict breakfast cut off. I've been working across the street from Gino's for almost 6 years and just discovered it! I had the Italian Chopped Salad today. A full salad is huge! It is also available in a 1/2 salad. The salad was excellent. Lots of fresh romaine, cucumbers, salami, turkey, parmesan cheese and a delicious vinagrette (comes on the side). The prices at this small, family owned cafe are excellent as well. The salad cost about $8. I'll be going back soon for some kind of breakfast sammie soon! read more

Really small place inside the apartment complex. Inside has about 3-4 small tables but there is also seating outside as well. Came here during lunch around 12 and there were already people inside but it wasn't too busy. I ordered a turkey guacamole sandwich which came up to $7.52 with tax. Service was pretty fast as well. To my surprise, I really enjoyed the sandwich more than I expected to. It consisted of turkey, red onions, lettuce, tomato, bacon, mayo, mustard and of course, GUAC! All the ingredients went really well together. It was pretty good! I would definitely come back again to try a different sandwich and I would love to order the breakfast special as well! read more

Foods are decent here. However, hygiene, nope. Every time I come here, the lead for chocolate powder was opened, and the plastic container was always covered with OLD chocolate powders (like it didn't get cleaned). Moreover, the container was located right by customers pay/speak, so the container needs to be clean regularly/ be stored in somewhere else to maintain good hygiene. Gino's java, is one of the best place in downtown that I always love to visit. Good coffee, excellent food, and best customer service. Nevena is very sweet and takes care of every customer very well. I am sure there are lot of regular customers because of this good customer care. I have a request to Gino's, most of us I assume more that 80% of the customers uses there credit/debit card for their shopping. And I dont see any option to tip using card. There is a bowl , but most of the time I dont carry cash. I am a regular customer since last couple of years. And me and my other friends who comes to this place regularly has the same concern. Pretty small place tucked away in the Capital Towers Apt complex, but it's bright and clean so that's good. Good for coffee drinks, breakfast items, and sandwiches. The turkey pesto (sub for cheddar) was good, but not the most filling. I particularly liked that it was neatly made, with everything inside spread pretty evenly. I'm really picky about stuff like that, and hate sloppily made sandwiches, so it was a pleasant surprise. Today, I actually perused the menu and they have a couple of salad, sandwich, and soup options that would be perfect for lunch! I actually have a craving for their greek salad that's currently on the menu...hopefully I'll get a chance tomorrow to sneak away and grab something quick! My coworkers and I come here wayyy too often, but it's too dang good to refuse! "Gino's Java Juice" sells much more than just juice. They sell juice, but they also have a variety of coffee drinks, breakfast pastries, and sandwiches and chips options for lunch. I love their coffee here. The Mexican mocha is my go-to drink. I've also tried their white mocha and vanilla iced coffee, both of which tasted great too. My coworker has tried one of their lunch options, a chicken panini, and she said that was delicious as well. What I love about this place is the quality of their coffee and how fast they are at making their drinks! It's amazing how fast they are. I never have to wait long here. Good service overall. It's so convenient since there is no Starbucks in the area. I might actually like this place more than Starbucks! The only reason I'm knocking a star is because they run out of pastries pretty quickly. If I come at 10am, they tend to be out of cookies and croissants already. read more

First let me preface my not so stellar rating with a statement that the food and service was actually great. The catch is, although it is called a "java and juice" location, the description indicates that they also have smoothies, which is what I went for, when they in fact do not. Comfortably nested in the small shopping strip at Capitol Towers, it is a quaint and simple shop, just what you need for a morning to lunch type location. The décor didn't particularly stand out and since I was kind of in a rush/didn't need to use their restroom facilities, I didn't see if they had any available to the public. Beware that the map shows them being next to the Italian place, when in fact there is a gym of some sort there and they are actually on the other side of that same building. As previously mentioned, I came with my heart set on a smoothie. When I didn't see them on the menu I was in a hurry so I just proceeded to order a morning special as suggested by another Yelper. THIS WAS DELICIOUS. I chose the cheddar jalapeno bagel for mine, and it was layered with cream cheese (they didn't skimp despite someone else's review that they do), tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and sprouts. Beautifully assembled, tasty and most importantly, QUICK! I'm talking 2 maybe 3 minutes tops and I had a warm bagel stuffed with deliciousness, even with a full house of customers coming in every 30 seconds or so. When I went to the counter to pick up my order, I asked if they by chance had a to-go menu for their smoothies and was told they "don't carry smoothies, only java and juice." No juice menu was listed and I didn't want to bother them again/had to go so I took my order and was on my way.
