So on a recent outing I had with my 23 year old daughter-we were making the rounds around town and found ourselves in Oak Park-After visiting a few local businesses we both needed a pick me up,so we saw Old Soul coffee shop nearby-so we decided to stop by and weren't we glad we did. 1st of all-when you walk in the lobby is filled with people doing what they do in coffee shops-hanging out-working on their laptops-reading books-socializing with friends-it was a real stress-free spot and I felt it as soon as I walked in.The people seemed like neighborhood people-a true hodgepodge of the Sacramento community-I loved that. I've vowed in 2026 I was going to open myself up to trying new coffee shops as I'm historically just such a creature of habit and it's experiences like Old Soul that make that vow so great-I really enjoyed this place. As far as coffee goes,this is what we ordered.I wasn't 100% sure what I wanted-was kind of looking for something less sweet and minimal sugar,so went with just their plain cold brew($6.00).My daughter went with their Sea Salt and Honey Shaken Espresso drink.($6.75) My Cold Brew was good-though I will admit a little boring of an order when trying out a new place. My daughters drink though-WOWSERS!!!...It was so good-I was filled with instant regret that I didn't go more adventurous with my coffee order and I'd wished I had gotten that one instead-it was really great. In closing-I feel like I'm way late to the party but Old Soul is a really great coffee shop and it has skyrocketed up my coffee shop rankings in Sacramento and I truly can't wait to visit them again.They are doing great things out there-well done. Gone here many times and the coffee is always solid, and the food is decent even if some items are overpriced. Good location too, but the tall white guy barista with glasses is disinterested at best and downright rude at worst. Interacted with him several times and there's never even a veneer of politeness. The last straw was when I told him something was wrong with my order and he just says "okay" then turns away. I didn't even want it remade I just wanted to make him aware, but like c'mon at least fake an apology? Don't work in the industry if you can't even manage to be halfway nice to people!! After eating lunch, I was craving some Kombucha and was reminded that Old Soul has KC Kombucha. Which is a local Kombucha that's actually located right across the street. The flavor that was on tap was Coconut Lime and the barista was able to give me a sample. I was impressed on how good it was and ordered it. Overall this is a perfect place for studying or doing some work. I stayed here for a couple of hours and the environment was perfect, not too noisy and not too quiet. Would recommend this place if you want to support a local coffee shop. read more

Who doesn't love old soul? Location: Off Broadway between Fixins and Underground books. Sacramento has no shortage of good coffee shops and Old Soul fits the bill. While not my favorite location I really love this place as it generally is a stop when I am visiting another business down here. There is street parking but the best place to park is off the main street or the parking lot behind the buildings. Service: Staff has always been friendly and great at this location. I think I have had the best interactions in their Capitol Mall location but I havent had any issues here. I think the only issue I had with service here is that when it is busy, it can take quite awhile to get the food, Vibe: This place has a lot of seating areas and surprisingly is not that loud when its full. Lots of different seating areas and nice bright windows onto the main street Food: Love the burritos at this location. I haven't done pastries very often. Generally they are ok but their sandwhich and burritos has been pretty good with a side of coffee. I am a huge fan of the coffee at Old Soul. Old Soul @ 40 Acres has been an Oak Park staple for years now. It's a great location on the corner, next to Underground Books, the Guild Theater, and Fixins. The drip coffee is bold and strong. There is plenty of seating inside. Staff are welcoming and polite. I have had their food from the kitchen before, but it's been awhile, so my review is mainly for the good vibes and yummy Old Soul coffee. They also have a small pastry case, which I did grab the last slice of chocolate banana bread. I don't know if they bake in-house or if they're from an outside bakery. I was recommended to this place by a coworker. So I set up a meeting to meet my client there. I walked in, and I was greeted by all workers in there. It was my first time and I must say, I loved how the ambiance was inviting and warm. The sandwich had a good amount of things on it, and it was made fresh which I love because whoever prepped it, took their time to cook everything and was not rushing. The sandwich, WAS AMAZING. I have eaten at many high end breakfast spots and this one takes the cake! The lavender lemonade was so good too! Perfectly balanced and just the right amount of drink consumption for me! I ordered online and when I walked up and asked about my drink it was ready right away. However I was just standing there waiting for my food for a bit of time even though it was behind the counter just waiting. I came in to do some work for the afternoon and wanted a fresh iced tea. I got the bottom of the tea barrel and I saw the barista attempt to find more to fill my cup since it wasn't full, but when he couldn't find it - he just handed it to me. I was disappointed but I didnt want to address it. Until tea leaves filled my straw and I shouldn't have to have this experience for a $7 iced tea. I brought it back and asked if this could be fixed. He told me unfortunately no because there is no more tea.... Okay. Asked for another drink and he began to charge me for the cold brew. My face at this point was communicating because he stopped and just went to make the drink. The quality of that was poor, and this is when I just packed up. No fluff cafe serving fresh coffee and espresso drinks in addition to small bites just blocks away from residential buildings, where parking can be scarce. We came in during a relatively cold, rainy day to get a caffeine fix and while it was satisfied with a decent cup of mocha, it wasn't the most welcoming experience as a first timer. The interior decor was great and inviting - there were displays of swag, coffee beans to brew at home, and pastries in the glass cabinet. The walk leading up to the register was certainly emitting positive vibes and got us excited for our drink to come. As we got closer, we took a look at the menu which was difficult to read in the dim lighting and reflective glass, and we walked up to the register to place our order. The staff did not seem to care for any pleasantries and simply asked what we wanted. It took a normal amount of time to make the drink and it gave us a bit more time to peruse through the shop. When my drink was ready, it was served hot, although in a weak little white paper cup, definitely requiring a sleeve to be able to handle it without discomfort. To set expectations, the sizes of their drinks are displayed as cups near the condiment/water station. The mocha tasted great and its flavor was exceptionally enhanced due to the temperature it was served in. I prefer a richer taste but it was good nonetheless and satisfied my craving. We interacted briefly with a few patrons while we were waiting and they all seemed very friendly and approachable - a stark difference compared to the staff. There were plenty of open tables for folks to use to enjoy their beverage and meal or even camp down and do a bit of work (they have free WiFi and relatively clean bathrooms). Very quiet and cozy place. Overall, my impression is that Old Soul is known (and perhaps only cares to be known) for their coffee which they seem to roast and brew in-house. They also serve snacks and meals like sandwiches although aren't highlighted much and don't expect much of a service behind all that coffee. It's tucked in the neighborhood and the locals who frequent here are great to share the space with. If you're looking for a good cup of hot coffee and need a quiet place to work, study or relax, Old Soul will be a great spot to perhaps rejuvenate your soul (whether it be new or old). read more

The lavender vanilla latte was pretty good. There was a band playing live music on Sunday. The barista service was okay. Good place to hang out or bring a laptop. I only just learned that each location has a different food menu, and the only one I've tried here was the breakfast omelette which was delicious. I always enjoy the mocha here as well. There is a bathroom with a code that you can ask for, and there is free wifi. There are some outlets at some tables for those who need to do work. Aroma out of this world! Folks were brunching or light lunching. The line was very long so I'm not sure if fully staffed. The MOST cool thing was the artist being showcased! Acrylic Art so beautiful & amazing and VIBRANT colors with textures and imagery with depth in each piece. TL;DR: Overall, I -want- to round up, but I think in this instance I'm going with a 3/5. The Bacon Breakfast Sando could very well could be a solid 4 if the bacon wasn't a flop (potentially my fault for not ordering extra crisp), the salsa focused less on fire, and the greasiness was balanced in a better way. If I order a straight bacon, egg, and cheese from a bagel shop, I know I'm getting a grease bomb; if I order something that has veggies and salsa, then I'd imagine there is thoughtfulness about salt + acid + fat balance in the dish. It was a $10 sandwich after all, so the price to value seems fair. I will come back and try something else because the other plates coming out of the kitchen looked delicious! Ambiance was nice - plenty of seating throughout. I'll drop an updated review then. -- I went into this without looking at any Yelp reviews or pictures; however, I did search online for "best Sacramento breakfast sandwich" and saw a thread on /r/Sacramento from a few months ago. Some people were surprised Old Soul wasn't near the top, so seeing as it was an underdog I gave it a try today at 11:00am. If you read my review about DAD'S Sandwiches, I tend to order the "classic" sandwich at a place new to me to see if they're worth their salt. I chose the Bacon Breakfast Sando on an English Muffin. I placed my order ahead of time. The online ordering system is very customizable but I kept the standard selections on my sandwich. Is a "sando" really a sandwich? Should I use the same sandwich rating scale? Anyway... $10.60 was the total and I pre-paid online so I was expecting to get in and out pretty quick. I can't believe I'm starting to think that $10 for a breakfast sandwich is starting to sound like a bargain. Service 3.5/5 The order was ready on time but I did have to wait ~10 minutes behind the couple ordering in front of me. The cashier gently nudged the barista to ask people in line if they could get anything started but the barista carried on doing other things. I didn't hear the barista getting orders started before I was out the door, but there was a line 6 deep by the time I left. I will say that in overhearing their conversation, the cashier was extraordinary in both patience and recommendations to the customers. Once I got to the register, the cashier did say they'll "let the chef know I'm here" and came back with my order. I asked if a pastry in the display was apricot - she replied that it was peach but that apricots are lovely as well. She sent me on my way with well wishes. Off I went to return home with a breakfast sando in my hand. Bread 4/5 I've been trying to get over my bias against English Muffins for awhile since I've been betrayed by them in the past. I'll say this one was surprising in that it exceeded my expectations. Above average but not spectacular. Good density and texture. It held up to the rest of the sando contents. Meat & Cheese 3/5 I didn't do any modifications. My biggest regret was that I didn't order "extra crispy bacon" because it was 90% floppy and 10% crisp on the edges. I had to pick out a few pieces that were too squishy for my liking. The eggs were... eggs? Not too fluffy or silky, but they weren't a bunch of rubbery curds. I had to rearrange them a bit because 80% of them were on one side of the sando. The cheese was still sweating and it melted enough to cover the entire sandwich. It fell over the sides of the English Muffin at some points. I think it was thinly sliced provolone but I could be wrong there - it didn't say on the online menu nor at the cafe itself. It wasn't too salty given the ingredients on the sandwich. Sometimes it can get out of control depending on the bacon and cheese situation. Overall, it felt quite greasy, but the salsa helped balance some of that out; however, if you're not a fan of spicy salsa then you'll need to find some other acid to balance things out. I pulled out the green Tabasco to try on a bite and it went well enough with everything else. Veggies 4/5 The smashed avocado looked fresh with a balance of green and yellow throughout. The tomato was ripe and slightly firm. The red onion seemed more like garnish than a true contributor to the sando. I'm still not sure about veggies on "classic" breakfast sandwiches, but when done right I think it can really elevate a sando, and in this case I'd say they were solid. They certainly didn't detract from the sandwich's main characters, and it gave some variety in texture as well. Sauce 3/5 Salsa had great flavor, sweetness, and acidity before the heat started. It was helpful to balance out the greasiness of the sando. This is not a subtle heat that builds - it cranks up almost immediately. For context, I'm known to throw a habanero in my homemade chili or use arbol and thai chilis when cooking for myself. Stumbled across this cafe. Parking can be a bit difficult to find, but it's worth coming to this coffee shop! It's also an enjoyable walking here in a nice day. Upon entering, I was impressed with the size and interior of the cafe. It has a clean, productive and inviting vibe that is perfect for a day of studying or working. Plenty of seating area with great open lighting from the windows. It feels like the perfect community hub and I love that they showcase artists' work. Came across someone who seemed like the owner or manager and they were quite friendly and patient! I ordered a mocha latte which I really enjoyed! The quality of the coffee was delicious. I am glad it wasn't sweet or artificial like other cafes I have come across. The coffee perked me up for the day. I also tried the lavender vanilla latte. It was good but I wish the lavender taste was a bit stronger! It had a more muted flavor. I also ordered a chicken pesto sandwich which was delicious! It was a good portion of food and the ingredients tasted very fresh. The lettuce was crunchy and the pesto sauce tasted incredible. I would absolutely order this again. The meal also came with chips (or salad). It would be nice to have the chips on the side in a separate bag/package for to go orders because it will get a bit soggy if you don't eat it right away or save some for later. However, not too much of a problem if you plan to eat it in one sitting! The chocolate croissant was really good but I wish it had a bit more chocolate chips in it. To top it off, I picked up an oatmeal cookie, and let me tell you, I got creative. I ended up dunking the cookie into the drinks, and the combination was *amazing*! Came out to Old Soul to support our family members artwork being displayed for the month of August. The vibe out here is so welcoming, fun, and alive! Could've been because it was a Friday night but it was just what we were looking for. We arrived after 6pm and unfortunately their kitchen was closed. They were still serving pastries in their display case and making drinks. Although it was late in the evening I couldn't skip ordering a drink of some type of coffee. I ordered the Banana Cream Latte. This was magnificent! I was afraid it'd be on the sweeter side and it wasn't! The cream has a hint of sweetness, banana chips on top to drive home the banana flavor, and the cinnamon is always a delicious touch. All in all, service, drink, and ambiance were on point. The more I visit this spot the more I love it. They have indoor and outdoor seating and serve coffee, food, kombucha and they even have wine and beer. When I visit it's typically in the morning or afternoon. On my latest visit I stopped in at 10:30am and stayed for some work meetings. I asked the barista for their recommendation and got a vanilla latte in a cup. It was filled to the top and had some pretty latte art- it was just what I needed. This location tends to get busy and while there's plenty of seating a lot of it is close to others or along the area where people line up to order. If you need it quieter or will be talking over the computer to people it may be better to go outside or make sure you have good headphones. I took my coffee outside and grabbed a good spot. The traffic noise was a bit loud, but otherwise it was perfect. I was able to attend two meetings and sipped on my coffee. The wifi was a little clunky to get on at first, but once I was in it worked great. I'll be back again soon! read more

Lots of guests coming in to work, read a book, and hang out. A cool and calm environment to be in. Got an iced matcha latte, sweetened with vanilla, & almond milk. Loved that it wasn't over powered with foam. Matcha was sweetened well, not too sweet. The drink was also a thick milk consistency which was interesting. I wanted a lavender latte. That is not on the menu. I was thinking I could order a latte and add lavender syrup. Nope, the only syrup options are vanilla and almond. Huh? They did have a lot of food options. Maybe 40 Acres is popular for the food? Anyways, I ended up ordering a small latte with oat milk w/ no sweetener, to go. The lids at the station were either too big or too small for the cup...so, topless I go!! LOL. I took a few sips, grabbed a sleeve for the cup, sprinkled a little brown sugar, before heading out the door. I don't know what brew they serve here, but, I do not like it. The coffee was bitter and didn't have any note that stood out to me. It was very acidic. The saving grace was the oat milk and brown sugar I added. Now, if I ordered just black coffee, I couldn't see myself finishing it. I was underwhelmed by my experience here. So, much so I didn't even bother taking photos! I was hoping to enjoy this cute place. But alas, no. The coffee is overly expensive, no free refills and very acidic. It's just NOT good and pricey to boot. They also have a serious problem with indoor air quality. Their venting for their kitchen and coffee roasting doesn't work and consequently you are forced to breath smoky unhealthy air throughout the entire establishment. This Coffee shop is located on the corner of a very cute, Farmer's Market focused part of East Sac. The staff was very patient and accommodating with our indecision. GF options or swaps are limited here but portions and quality of the food makes up for it. If you love sunlight and good coffee this is a must try when you are in Sacramento! read more

It was our first time there on a Saturday and we were out running errands and thought we'd stop for a bite just before noon. We split a breakfast burrito and some coffee and it was tasty. The service was fine and we will return. read more

Food: took awhile to get and my bread was burnt. Also, I asked for no bacon and they put bacon on anyway. Service: the people working here were not really friendly. I wondered if the service and food was the result of our group coming in with coffee. In our defense, we were so caffeine deprived that we had to stop on the way. Either way, service and food shouldn't be impacted. I wouldn't recommend this spot. read more

Parking is a challenge--especially during events--so be prepared to walk. That said, it's worth it! The lavender lemonade was super refreshing--not too sour and the lavender wasn't overpowering. I also had a vanilla latte, and it was delicious. There was no line when I ordered, which was a nice surprise. The drinks took about 10 minutes to come out, but the cute decor and chill vibe made the wait totally fine. read more
