    Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs
    Jared H.

Carol's has been in business for many years and is a very popular restaurant. It was very busy on a Monday morning. This was my first time eating here in over 10 years. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs which was very filling and delicious. It came with a large fried steak, gravy, 2 eggs, 2 pieces of toast, and choice of potatoes (breakfast potatoes or hash browns); I ordered the breakfast potatoes. The portion was large and the steak was crispy and delicious! The gravy was a cream based gravy which complimented the steak, eggs, and potatoes well. The toast is standard sliced bread. The potatoes were flavored well and slightly crispy. Even though it was busy the employees were friendly and hospitable. The interior is old and outdated with a t-bar tile ceiling similar to an office with older carpet as this is an older establishment. There was a picture on the wall that read "Unattended children will be given an espresso and a free puppy".

Another wonderful experience with great food, friendly fast service and classic diner vibes. I love that they exist and especially in West Sac. They have great senior dishes my parents enjoyed their orders as well. Highly recommend!

You seat yourself and they'll bring the menus to you. Even with a full house they were on it. I thought they may not notice us tucked in the back corner but our menus arrived within a couple minutes. Good, efficient/speedy service. I had the Breakfast Enchiladas and had leftovers for later. It's diner food, and Carol's is good for what it is. Big portions & affordable.

2/16/26 Monday brunch Great start to the work week, on holiday Monday. We had Mexican tacos, Mexicali Scramble, coffees. So delicious. So glad there was enough to take home for a second meal! Each time I visit I vow to come over more often! Staff pleasant, professional.

A nice place. The place was kind of busy, but I edited the people out for their privacy.

Another yelper said it best. "Breakfast with the locals." I was taking care of some personal business in West Sac, and found this place on Google. I decided to give it a try. It's on the east end of West Capitol Ave. I came in, and the place is bright and clean. Everybody was extremely friendly and helpful. It's a simple "coffee shop vibe." I decided to have the steak and feta omelette, and for my side, I chose grits. I was very happy with my breakfast. The eggs were good, and they were very generous with the fillings. All of the fillings played very well together. The feta gave the omelette a nice "tang.." the only thing I could possibly say, was while the steak strips were delicious, they were a tad bit chewy. It's not worth taking off a star, because at the price point for this omelette, I did not expect filet mignon. It was an extremely good omelette. The grits were delicious and just the right texture, the toast was fine, the coffee was good, and they kept my cup full. It was an extremely reasonably priced breakfast. Now, I have a place to come to when I'm on the west side of the river. They also have a seafood omelette on the menu that I'm going to have to try next time. Thanks for a great meal.

update: was in West Sac today and decided to see if this local diner has changed. The answer is no...and that is a good thing. If you want to experience the ambiance of a locally owned diner...this is your place. It is your neighborhood type of restaurant, no thrills, nothing pretentious, just basic decent grub. A place for hard working families. The price point is excellent. Food preparation is decent. And the service is on point. So what did i order. Florentine omelette: spinach, cheese, mushrooms, onions. The omelette itself was just slightly overcooked. The roasted potatoes were tender but didn't have any crispy outside texture. I also substituted the toast or biscuit with 2 mini pancakes that were not undercooked and had a sweet flavor...kinda reminded me of the pancakes that were served at Annie's in citrus heights before they closed down. Again- i was not looking for a 5 star restaurant nor are they positioning themselves as one. it is just a very nice local diner. A place friends and families can gather and have a very enjoyable meal. The wait staff here are also very efficient, friendly, and ensure your mug of coffee is filled. nice. And you never feel rushed to eat quickly so your table can be turned over for another patron. Would i come here again...absolutely.

First time visit while in town. Chose the green chili breakfast enchiladas we're not disappointing. The chili was great perfect portions of both egg and meat. The meat was so tender juicy and tasteful came with beans. Beans were refried and lightly cheese hit the spot. The other item we ordered was the grits and blueberry pancake pancakes. The portions are huge you can actually share. The coffee was amazing. I had about four refills. Every refill was nice and hot. The service was excellent you sit where you want we had about four servers. Ask us if we needed anything to drink right from the get go. The portions here are very generous, and the price was very reasonable Will definitely be back when we are in town. Thank you, Carol's for a great service and for a hearty breakfast

For breakfast, Carol's slaps! Their veggie omlette is excellent. Tons of veggies. Service is friendly and efficient. They were busy but our food came fairly quickly. We will never forsake Carol's!

When I'm in the mood for a hearty breakfast, such a steak and eggs or pancakes, I head over to Carol's and grab a spot at the counter. Jaime is usually the one up front and has become my favorite server. The food is consistently solid. I have never had a meal that I didn't love. The restaurant is homey and comforting. It feels like a hug from your grandma. If you're a fan of bread pudding, you must try theirs. It's made in house and is a hefty serving. I still have dreams about it. My only qualm is that they don't have vanilla ice cream to serve it with. I just ask for extra whipped cream.

Came in for a quick breakfast because we were in the area. I liked that they had outside parking but also a parking lot in back since there is limited parking. When you walk it it is seat yourself so you can sit wherever. The waitress was nice and the place had a mom/pop feel. They were all very nice and pleasant. The food came out and they were all big portions, hot and delicious and the prices are very reasonable. Not a bad place to find.

We aren't usually diner people, but needed something relatively quick and hearty on a road trip down south. We chose Carol's because of the close location to the interstate, their early opening hours, and the menu that had something for everyone. And it worked out great! First of all, there was one woman working the entire floor alone. I watched her service 9 tables, several patrons at the counter, and manage at least 6 Door Dash orders solo and she was incredible. Positive attitude, hustled, and worked that place like a consumate pro. Hats off to this woman and her incredible stamina and work ethic. The food was good, filling, and very economical. Less than $10 a plate for a huge amount of food that was pretty tasty! I ordered the corned beef hash (fresh corned beef, not canned) and it was good. Hubby got breakfast quesadillas and was very pleased. Kid ordered the kids pancake meal which came in cute shapes and she was unable to finish it all. Free coffee refill were appreciated, especially so early in the morning! We noticed a huge table of rotating WSPD officers occupying a side of the room, so this must be a popular spot to start or finish a shift. We enjoyed seeing our men and women in blue conversing and enjoying a local spot. All in all satisfying meal, quick and friendly service, and a great bang for your buck. We will likely return under similar circumstances again.

We've been coming to Carol's Restaurant for nearly 15 years now, and it's my husband's and my go-to spot every Sunday. What keeps us coming back is the nostalgic, classic American diner vibe--along with the generous portions, friendly service, and prices that still make sense compared to other big-name diners that charge more for less. We've had the pleasure of meeting the owners, Carol and Raymond, and we absolutely love that they're hands-on. They're never above jumping in to serve guests, bus tables, or show off their chef skills. Sorry, Ray--when Momma Carol makes my burger patty medium-well with the salt just right, it's perfection But don't worry, you're still my second-favorite cook! Every meal comes out hot and satisfying. On weekends, it can get busy, so expect a 15-25 minute wait depending on the time--but it's always worth it. If you have a party of five or more, calling ahead to see if you can reserve a table is a smart move. The staff is always a pleasure--shoutout to Rachel, Jamie, and Heidi. We miss you, Matt! The bus girls are amazing too; they remember our drink orders and always greet us with a smile. As for the food, it never disappoints. I'm writing this review mainly to campaign for the Tater Tot Special to become a permanent menu item--it was THAT good. My husband is now torn between his longtime favorite, the Big Billy, and the Tater Tot Special It definitely needs to be on the menu more often, especially on weekends. Another absolute must-try: the cinnamon roll pancakes. They're so insanely good that you'd better hope they don't sell out before you order them. If you're looking for an old-school American diner with classic vibes, hearty portions, and fair prices--Carol's is the place to go.

It's open seating and we opted to sit outside, we didn't realize our table (as were all of them) dirty but our waitress noticed and offered to clean to clean it- mind you we were already seated. Another waitress comes by and wipes every bit of crumbs and dirt right onto my lap, irritating. I wiped my lap very obvious and she apologized. My bf ordered a fanta when we were asked about drinks and given about 10 mins to look over the menu. I ordered the Munga Munga (i believe that's the spelling) in burrito form and informed the waitress no feta as I have a dairy allergy. I saw her write it down. My bf again asked for the fanta and she said yes of course. We waited maybe 10-15 mins and out food was out. My bf still didn't have his fanta lol and my burrito came w feta- able to see bc they cut the burrito in half. I noticed right away and they took it back to remake. At this time my bfs fanta comes. Less than 10 mins later I get my refire. This particular omelette was supposed tp have Louisiana hot link sausage but it must've been cut very fine bc I could barely see any meat and there wasn't any flavor to it at all. I added some tobasco and pepper but I'm thinking I should've added salt too. Cool. I ate maybe half of half the burrito and a few bites of hash browns (that also had no flavor) and was ready to go. Less than 4 hrs later I had awful cramps and diarrhea. It's clear they don't take allergies seriously here. My bf ordered chicken fried steak and he said it was delicious tho. Me personally, I'm good on coming back. Food thrown out, they likely cook eggs in butter or mix egg beaters w milk.

I told her it was my first time and she goes "I got you." That's all I needed to hear. She hooked me up with the Berry Blossom Milk Tea, Ultra Violet iced coffee, blueberry muffin and the breakfast burrito with bacon and avocado. Now the drinks? Solid. That Ultra Violet coffee had lavender, caramel and honey all entering the chat at once like they were forming the Avengers . Somehow it worked. Then came the burrito... now listen... at first I'm sitting there like "alright everybody calm down it's just a breakfast burrito." WRONG. This thing came out throwing hands immediately eggs, potatoes, bacon, avocado all packed into this perfectly toasted tortilla. Then the salsa showed up like a surprise guest star and took the whole thing to another level. I almost looked around for somebody's grandma in the back yelling "make sure that boy leaves full!" Sat outside watching the A's game, drinking coffee, enjoying the breeze and honestly it was the perfect Sunday reset. Steve my brother... you absolutely crushed this recommendation

It wasn't busy much since there wasn't a line but a few tables were waiting for their food before us. I had the BLTA and it was DELICIOUS. I love the bread it comes with. The top is a bit crispier and the bottom bum is softer. The sandwich was fresh. I love the taste, still thinking of the next time I'll return to eat it. Water is in a dispenser inside and doesn't come with ice. You will need to let the front cashier know if you want ice. I feel like they should just put ice in the dispenser. Love the outside, great to have kids running around. The wait for our food took about 15 minutes I think, not too bad. I would return here, I really love the BLTA sandwich.

We got a late start when we went so none of us were feeling breakfast anymore, although breakfast is served all day. Our table ordered from the lunch menu: patty melt, steak sandwich, and turkey supreme sandwich, and upgraded to sweet potato fries. No complaints about anybody the food. My patty melt was solid, and just as expected. It was delicious and filling. The pile of thin crispy fries was perfectly seasoned and served nice and hot. My bro got the sweet potato fries and were well worth the upcharge. My husband loved his NY steak sandwich, served with lettuce, tomato, and onion rings, minus the mayo. Our server was pretty good, after a little delay getting to our table. We were acknowledged when we walked in, from all the way in the back from the kitchen and told to sit anywhere. It did seem like a little too long of a wait to get menus, but once he came over, he was very efficient with getting our drinks and taking our orders. Food came out in a timely manner. Seems like our server was the only staff for the entire front dining area. So if that was the case, he really did a good job, with just slight delays with refills and other requests. But he was pleasant and kept a positive attitude. There's a full bar in the back and prices seemed reasonable. It"s not cheap, but reasonable compared to other bars. I'll definitely be back for breakfast next time!

I ordered the Carnitas Eggs Benedict. The portion size and appearance were very nice! The hollandaise sauce was spot on. I loved the tender carnitas added to this classic breakfast. Perfect! The house potatoes were browned and crispy. The only thing the potatoes were missing was onion. Otherwise they were great! The servers, and other staff, were all friendly and responsive. Best of all, the food was affordable and came out fast! I highly recommend this cafe if you are in the area!

The place reminds me of bars that I would have frequented in my twenties and felt strangely familiar. The bar keep/waiter was super friendly and laid back. Our party of two proceeded to order burgers, mine with regular fries and my dining companion the garlic fries. I made a few substitutions which were quickly accommodated with a smile. The burgers were soooo good! Cooked perfectly to order and the garlic fries are a must. So perfectly garlicky without any bitterness and delightfully delicious. The fries are perfectly between thin and steak, striking a balance that fits just about any preference.

They're known for their burgers, but even without ordering one, everything we tried was delicious. The fried sweet pickles with house-made ranch were my absolute favorite--perfectly crispy and so flavorful. The mac and cheese was rich and homemade-tasting, and the house chips with salsa and beer cheese dip were a great addition. Our friends ordered the mac-and-cheese grilled cheese (yes, really!) and devoured it, and the Reuben was also a huge hit. Definitely an 11/10 experience. We'd absolutely come back if we're in the area again.
