We ordered a vegi pizza and expected the usual called vegetables, but to our surprise- fresh vegetables! Crust was great ( New York style), and it was huge. Ordered garlic knots and a slice - garlic knots were hot and fresh - extra garlicky. Our party also ordered other menu options - both of which were fine. Slice was fine - we dined before 11:45am and it didn't even come out hot, but the cheese was melted. Debra went to pick up a large cheese pizza at Gino's Pizzeria in downtown Portsmouth. They told her it would be ready in 20 minutes, so she returned on time. When she walked in, the music was blasting extremely loud, and there was no one at the counter. She waited about 5-8 minutes before anyone came out from the back. The employee smelled strongly of cigarettes, which was unpleasant. Given the loud music and no staff up front, it didn't feel very safe or professional, especially with no other customers in the store. When she opened the pizza box, the pizza was completely burned. She pointed it out, and the employee agreed and remade it. She wasn't rude, but there was no apology or offer for the inconvenience (not even a drink or discount), which would have gone a long way. Between the long wait, the burned pizza, the smell of cigarettes, and the overall atmosphere, the experience was disappointing. read more

My son and I were looking for Pizza while staying at a local hotel and found Gino's a short walk away. We ordered over the phone for pick up but decided to eat-in after we arrived. Gino's sits in historic old town Portsmouth and we could smell the delicious pizza as we walked up. The service was amazing and they went out of their way to make it an enjoyable diner for my son and I. My son enjoyed a cheese pizza and I ordered a meat lovers Stromboli. The portion sizes are HUGE! Enough to take home for the next day for sure. Gino's also has a very quaint bar that serves pizza by the slice! Before I begin let me start off by saying that this review is based solely upon my personal experiences and my personal experiences alone, so with that being said let's begin!. I have been passing this place for a while now and I never stopped until today. It's not a very big place but big enough to hold some tables and a small bar area. When I seen the name Gino, the first thing that came to mind was NY style pizza and with a name like Gino that Italian name meant something to me. It made me feel like I was back in Brooklyn grabbing a slice of pizza from the pizzeria on the corner right next to the bodega!. Well fast forward this place is cool, it has a couple of gambling machines and I believe I seen an atm, but I wasn't too sure so don't quote me on it!. I ordered two slices of pepperoni that came with a can of soda or a bottle of water!. They have a special for two slices and a soda for $4.99 but I believe that is just plain cheese, I opted for pepperoni instead. The pizza came out fairly quick, it wasn't that hot the way I like it so I am wondering if it was sitting in the back waiting for someone to order it. The pizza or should I say the pepperoni had a nice flavor. The cheese was ok and overall the pizza was good. I have a few concerns. 1. Growing up in Brooklyn you could see your pizza being made from the dough tossing and throwing the cheese and topping on it and then thrown right into the oven!. Maybe I am spoiled but that's what I'm accustomed to in a pizzeria or pizza shop!. At this pizza shop you have no idea how they are preparing your pizza. They just bring it out to you from the back!. 2. When he brought my slices out they already put grated cheese on it, I love the stuff but they don't know that so why would you just take it upon yourself to sprinkle anything on my pizza without first asking?. So that's why I left off two stars because of those two concerns!. Was down on High Street at the Children's Museum looking for a nearby spot for lunch (easy for the kiddos!). We found another pizza place but they were closed. This place was suggested by a gentleman working in the museum. We were skeptical at first because the ratings were low but decided to give it a try since it was a quick walk from the museum (3 mins!). Glad we did--the pizza was GREAT! The owner served us (warmed up after a bit), was very helpful and accommodating with two playful toddlers, and the food came out quick! I'll definitely be visiting again. read more

Brought my nephews here a couple of years ago and had the best experience. The pizza was outstanding and the service was excellent. Tried going back a couple more times since and the experience got worse with every order. Pizza quality and taste has declined drastically and the service is poor. Called in my order and spoke to a man with a heavy Jamaican accent. I asked for a pepperoni pizza and he quoted me $26. I asked how much for a half pep and half supreme, it sounded like he said no extra charge. I get there and my pizza was way under cooked and it was $30. There was an extra charge for the toppings (understandable if told) and for the credit card payment. He didn't give ma a total nor did he explain the extra charge for credit card payment, he just swiped my card for $30. Seems like it's under new ownership of nickel and dimmers. Ordered 3 pizzas for a ladies night at A Touch of Glory Massage LLC around the corner. This restaurant was highly recommended by the spa owners! I ordered a Cheese 18in, Meat Lovers 18in and Veggie pizza 14in! Sooo good, and filling! All of the guest loved the pizza! The owner was really nice! It gives such an authentic family owned vibe. Gino's is always fast and friendly. I usually order pick up or delivery. I would eat there but there's no A/c on a hot summer day. The pizza is always perfect but this time I had the stuffed shells. They were delicious. Very cheesy and fresh. This is my go to takeout Italian. I highly recommend giving them a try. read more

We drove down and he said I needed a coupon even though it is in there menu and does not say anything about a coupon. He would not honor it. We have been here before and the owner was very nice and the food was good. My husband works here at the navel base and has even brought me back cannolis to SC for me. Amazing food and above amazing service! My family and I ordered a couple of pizzas to be delivered and it started raining pretty hard while we were waiting at our AirBNB. Next thing I know, there was a knock at the door and the poor delivery guy was soaked - I looked for his car but saw that he had actually ridden a bicycle as we were just down the street. The pizza at this place is delicious & any review stating otherwise is a lieeee. This is the closest to NY pizza in Portsmouth, you won't find it anywhere else. The sauce was awesome,! It's not too sweet, but has a slight sweetness..the pepperoni has a little spice and the cheese was great. *chefs kiss* A tiny bit greasy, but hey it's pizza! What do you expect? lol. I was a frequent customer but was rubbed the wrong way the last time i called to place an order. I was placing an order for me and my co-workers and when i asked for the total at the end he laughed and stated you're asking like you don't have any money. Mind you i called to place a delivery order which states on the menu it's a $5 charge for delivery orders, but when i stated one of the orders was for the $10 special of the day it no longer could be delivered even though more meals were being ordered. First time having Gino's. We ordered a pepperoni pizza with sausage on half, garlic knots, and hot wings. The pizza was a thin New York style type of pizza and was generously cheesy. The garlic knots were fresh, hot, and doughy as they should be! The wings were party sized wings tossed in a hot sauce. it's been 4 or 5 months since we came here last. we were offered a Jamaican menu upon entering. The start of a strange dining experience. only bottled water, which was fine, but then stated they have no ice. Four people working, none spoke! The pizza was soggy. i asked where Gino was. After getting home & biting into the "mediterranean" calzone I come to find that it's just a bunch of dough with cheese & spinach (no tomatoes, olives, onions, etc of what they claimed).
