My friends and I wanted to try a new sushi place and this restaurant was suggested. We went during happy hour and we each ordered a round of drinks to start off with. Their HH menu didn't have a lot of options besides a few appetizers and small dishes. We decided to order off the regular menu instead. We were taken aback by the pricing considering the ambiance of the restaurant. Rolls averaged between $18-$22. We ended up going to our regular sushi spot down the street but the service and drinks were good. I considered the food to be too pricey for the location. We could see HEB and the construction from where we were seated.

Not located in Tokyo's Ginza District unfortunately, but still a fun place to come and check out if you have the cash. So it is a very good sushi restaurant but it's not cheap. If it was a little cheaper I might give it five. We like the sushi here although it's nowhere near as good as my favourite places in New York and Boston, which are by the way considerably cheaper. Still it's very impressive and I'm a fan and I'm quite sure I'll be back. I've only been here once but I will update this review upon my next trip.

I can't not wait to come back to Katy to experience more of what Akiko has to offer. For some people it could be very overwhelming as you don't know where to start. Now for me...I was a little intimidated at first but after asking the waitress what she suggested...she steered me to a few rolls and items I should give a try. And I opted for a few items off their $7 menu of fatty salmon and tuna which both melted in your mouth. I was sad they didn't have ocean perch a single as I really wanted to try a new fish. I also, grabbed an order of spicy edamame as I have to have some veggies when I dine out. The roll I finally decided to get was I can't remember the name right now, but had all my favorites: salmon, tuna, and cream cheese. I also had nigiri yellowtail as I can't go eat sushi without having my yellowtail fix. I really wish I had (3) stomachs as I wanted to try a few more rolls. But after the Cabernet Sauvignon (3) glasses and the nigiri rolls I had I was too full to consume anything else. I can not wait to come back because it was so much more to partake and try that I know I will have to make at least 3-4 trips to go through the entire menu.

Arrived approximately around 6PM. It was not too crowded, but the room filled as the night went on. It's a small but spacious restaurant. Service was prompt and friendly. We opted for the omakase and we additionally got the koji chicken off the happy hour menu. The omakase is 18-courses, but is not super heavy. It included 3 single bite style appetizers, 13 pieces of sushi, A5 wagyu, and foie gras. Everything was delicious. The appetizers were great bites with good seasoning. The sushi were long pieces with small amounts of rice and already prepped with soy sauce and wasabi, that they recommended eating with your hands. The flavor profiles were great and they also had some seared versions too. The fish was smooth and buttery, no fishy taste, with some great fatty cuts. You don't feel extremely stuffed by the end of it and it is a bit pricy for $165, but overall a fantastic experience. We also got dessert and that was great. Not too sweet. They even gave us a free flan for a birthday gift! The plating is beautiful and service was impeccable. Definitely a must try! Will have to come back and try their à la carte items!
