Hunan's Bistro and Sushi is a classic Chinese restaurant with great food in the heart of Bellaire. It exudes old school charm with marble tiled floors, fish tanks, wall art, and even a fountain in the front entryway. It was a simple day out with my wife and daughter. We got Crab Rangoons as an appetizer. I ordered my usual Chinese dish Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. My wife ordered the Sweet and Sour Pork and Wanton Soup. My daughter got the Beef Pho. The Crab Rangoons were some of the best I've had in a long while. The outer layer was thick and crispy, the cream cheese delectable it had the perfect balance of sweetness and savory. I tasted my wife's wanton soup and it was fresh with a deep pork broth. The wontons had depth not just simple flavor, it was savory on a different level. She said her Sweet and Sour Pork was amazing so I had a piece or two and they were crispy and well cooked. The flavor burst in your mouth, the sweet and sour sauce was light and sweet not too heavy. Shrimp and Lobster Sauce is my go to order at every Chinese restaurant, I basically judge a place by this dish. This one was very good, the shrimp were grilled before hand and the lobster sauce had a richness and tang. So good. I didn't taste my daughter's Pho but she said it was very good. Overall, it was an amazing experience. Hunan's has classic service with great food and an elegant dining area. The sushi bar alone at the back exuded charm. read more

Hunan's is a staple for fresh easy Chinese American style food. The food overall is more on the bland side which usually I don't like but in this case is nice for times I want something simple. I think I prefer takeout rather than eating in person. Last time I was there on a weekday afternoon with not many people there. I had to wait over 10 mins for someone to ask me if I wanted a drink. Is this the best Chinese food ever? No. But it's good quality ingredients and easy when you're in a pinch. read more

I placed an order for Egg Foo Young,wings,and soup that came to about $30 to be delivered at a hospital in the medical center last night. We never got our food and it was charged to my credit card. We tried contacting them several times and they did not answer. It was close to closing time so I decided to call back the next night when I arrived to work. I spoke to the manager and he said that the driver dropped off the food and took a picture to where they left the food at the lobby (again I work at a hospital). I never got said picture and never got our food yet my card was charged. I told the manager that I wanted the charges removed from my card and he refused. In fact, he hung up in my face. I immediately called back thinking that we might have gotten disconnected and he hung up in my face again. I called from another number and he hung up again. Not once did he offer and try to make it right-I would have even been ok with him offering to bring the food tonight. So again I work at a hospital in the medical center and we have as group placed large orders in the past. Never again. Nobody will order from this place again simple on the principle of it. The manager was beyond unprofessional,unapologetic,and simple did not care. So unless you want to take your chances on if you will get your order,go with another option! It is not worth the headache and you want to support businesses that actually listen to the customer. read more

What a gem! This pan-Asian restaurant was selected for a mid-size group of about 18 ppl for a luncheon honoring a friend who was retiring. Hunan's Bistros is one of he & his wife's favorite spots. I've never been here, but it's convenient to Meyerland/Bellaire/West University neighborhoods. Plenty of seating in this restaurant. Service was excellent. The portions were very appropriate leaning towards huge. Everything that everyone in our party ordered looked delicious. The menu features familiar, Chinese entrees, a good selection of Sushi, and even Vietnamese dishes. We had to laugh that there was even a Smoothie menu. This would be a great location if everyone can't agree on specifically what they want, but they know they want a taste of Asia! read more

The food was amazing. We liked it so much we went back the next night. Wonton Soup was great. The Sesame Chicken was to die for. The best I have ever had in quite a long time. The chicken was fresh and moist and not overly breaded and the sauce was just incredible. We also ordered Sushi which was also magnificent. The presentation was pretty cool. Service was also great. The staff was friendly and very helpful. My parents are over 80 years old and felt very appreciated. They were able to accommodate all their wishes. Very nice, clean and well lit place. We recently visited and had an absolutely amazing experience. The highlight of the evening was the sushi boat, which was stunning from the moment it arrived at our table. The presentation alone is worth the visit. I should have trusted the Yelp reviews. However, many of my friends like this establishment, so I thought I would give it a try on Christmas day. The restaurant is in a nice area of town so I was expecting much more. In my opinion these type some restaurants should focus on one specialty, not Chinese, Vietnamese and Japanese. Maybe that's the problem. For Christmas Day around 1pm, there was no wait and several tables available. The service was great, however I wasn't a fan of the food. I absolutely LOVE hot and sour soup, but theirs tasked mostly like pepper (the spice - not the veggie). I couldn't even bear to finish it, which is rare for me. I ordered sweet-and-sour pork and the pork was insanely dry. I ended up packing it and just brining it home because I knew I'd be hungry later. Which I did - even though it was dry. The spring role and other sides were decent. I left feeling disappointed. Maybe today was just off, but I was here for the food and they could have done bette. Being that there are 1 trillion Chinese restaurants in Houston and several more in the area... I doubt I will be back. read more

I will preface by saying, I mostly order the same thing from here over and over again and really like them. I have been coming here for years and have not been disappointed. This restaurant has very good and prompt service. The staff are very friendly the restaurant is beautiful, especially after the renovations. I love the little pond! I have dined in and ordered to go and had wonderful experiences each time. The menu is large and covers many different types of cuisines. I love the General Tsao's chicken, the kung pao shrimp and the mixed fried rice! A recent find is also the Vietnamese egg rolls. The quality is consistent and overall the flavors and textures are very tasty. Parking is not a problem due to the large lot, which makes things easier. Service was very friendly and fast - they were attentive to our drinks, clearing the table, and making small talk with us. We started with an order of the chicken dumplings and pork dumplings - there were plenty in each order to feed our crowd of 5 people. We then each decided to order a dish and share family style - everything at the table was good and fairly priced. They had sushi on happy hour, but none at the table opted for that option. Very disappointed. Restaurant was completely empty at 5:30 on a Sunday so not good sign. Ordered several orders of chicken lettuce wraps to go. The chicken was dry with a grainy consistency--almost seemed like a freeze dried minced chicken that had been rehydrated. When got it home, family would not eat it. The spicy tuna roll was ok, but the spicy orange roll was pretty good, just one star off because the chewiness was a little more in this roll than what I'm used to. -- servers were so friendly. Decorations very nice; peaceful and relaxing Restaurant ambiance. Not many people were here but I came in after 1:30 so that's probably not surprising. I ordered sizzling rice soup and the seafood in bird's nest The food was packed very nicely with the sizzling rice and fried bird's nest (noodles in seperate containers. ) I would say the food is considered very healthy to the point it was a little bland. The sizzling rice soup came with chicken, mushrooms, shrimp, celery and carrots. The celery and carrots were a bit undercooked and chopped too large. The rice did come really crispy and the right texture. For the bird's nest, I was surprised it came with scallops, but no fish. There was shrimp, lettuce, carrots, shitake mushroom. And the bird's nest was the large noodles, not the small curly egg noodles. There wasn't a lot of sauce so it was hard to make the noodles soft. Again, very light but not a lot of flavor. Overall, if you want a healthy meal option, Hunan is a good pick. However, for the price I paid, I felt like I could have made a similar dish at home. read more

WORST ASIAN FOOD IVE EVER EATEN!!!!!!! Honestly, don't see how they are even still in business, unless people in Bellaire have lost their tastebuds. My cousin & I we're initially gonna go to Subway, but we both wanted Asian. So I quickly Yelped this Hunan Spit near us. She ordered the General Tsao's & I ordered the Sesame Chicken. We also ordered two of the King Crab Wontons. Wontons were horrible. It was half a teaspoon of plain cream cheese, no flavor. The cheese was curdled, probably because they were old & refried. Chicken was hard & tough, sauce was trash. In addition, the lunch portions came with an Eggroll & wonton soup. I was driving, but starving so I asked my cousin to pass me an eggroll. I figured this had to be okay, as an eggroll is the chicken tender of Asian cuisine. If you can't cook an eggroll, you shouldn't be in business. There was a pool of grease in the bottom of the bag. So I wrapped it in a napkin to try & get some of the oil off. Normally I would've thrown it away, but again, I was starving. Upon first bite I felt a splatter......grease all over my favorite Rolling Stones T-Shirt Dress in multiple places.
