This is a great upscale sushi option especially if you're near the Museum District. The interior is beautiful and the sushi quality is really good. They have convenient free (tip-based) valet parking which makes things easy. The food and drink prices are higher than most sushi places but not crazy considering the quality. Unfortunately, the service hasn't been that good my last couple of visits. The pacing is off, so I've been waiting hungry with no food on the table, or they suddenly bring a lot all at once. My last visit was particularly poor with long wait times between courses and I had to politely flag down our server several times to ask for another drink or to order additional food. The waiter didn't care to offer any food suggestions or recognize it was my father's birthday after I mentioned that early on. Our meal took almost 2 hours for a party of 2 people who eat sushi quickly. The waiter seemed overworked/busy yet didn't make any apologies for the delays. I was also disappointed by the wagyu clay stone dish. It was $95 (market price) and I don't recall it being nearly that expensive the last time I had it. They didn't care to remind us how to properly cook it until I asked, and I'm not sure the stone was hot enough because it took a couple minutes to get the meat medium-rare. Usually 20-30 seconds on each side does the trick because the meat is thin. I still recommend this place and will certainly go back because I live nearby, but I hope they improve upon the service issues because if this happens again I'll think twice before returning. My husband and I celebrated a nice anniversary dinner at MF sushi. Upon arrival we were able to do free valet out front - this was nice. We were then led to our table once inside and it was bustling since it was a Friday evening. Everything we had was delicious! We realized how authentic MF sushi is compared to other trendy sushi spots in town. We had the following: - miso soup - perfect cup of warm, cozy goodness - ginger salad - large portion, loved the fresh ginger - Apple Wood smoked salmon - a must! Loved the smoky touch. - A5 Wagyu Skewer - another must! We came to try MF for dinner service on a weekday. It's probably the only higher end sushi spot that we haven't tried before so we were excited to check it out and compare it to Kata, Katami, Uchi, Uchiko, Ume, etc. The parking is a hassle; you almost have to opt for paid valet or free/paid street parking since they cordon their parking lot off for valet. The interior is modern and has a nice ambiance; the sushi bar is a cool setup. Their menu focuses more on fish rather than hot foods; we ordered a bunch of sashimi, nigiri, and cold/hot apps. Highlights: fish quality is good and presentation is solid. Lowlights: menu items aren't very imaginative outside of the sashimi and nigiri items standard at all high end sushi spots. Their sushi rice is not my favorite, I think it's subpar. They ran out of Uni, which is a bummer. We liked their otoro and tamago; but for the price, most of the items we were good but not great. Service was top notch; our server memorized the entire order from memory with zero errors. It's a high end dining experience with quality fish. I came here for a work meeting and ended up really enjoying the food here. The sushi was super fresh and some of them were so good that we actually ended up reordering a few of them. We tried a mix of appetizers, nigiri, and rolls, and everything was excellent. The service could've been better. I have heard great things about MF for years. Friends have said that it was the best sushi in town but for a long time I didn't eat fish and unlike restaurants like uchi and nobu they don't have many non fish options. Well I started eating sushi a few months ago so I was excited to finally get to try MF. I had been warned that the service and the ambiance were both fine, not great and that did turn out to be true. The sushi itself was exceptional and I appreciated the modest amount of rice that they use in their nigiri (enough, but not so much that you are filling up on rice). They lose a star from me mostly because there are almost no veggie dishes. I understand this is a sushi restaurant but I enjoy getting a few side dishes with my meal and that wasn't really an option here. We tried the vegan hot pot but it was very bland and flavorless. Favorite dishes were the signature nigiri Wagyu beef aburi, madai, kanpachi, kinmedai and shima aji. I enjoyed our dinner here but I wouldn't pick this over some of my other favorite spots in town. read more

We had a reservation and everything went so smooth. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and got seated within a couple minutes. I'm not a huge sushi consumer but eating here changed everything for me. The food was so fresh and well detailed. Our sever Alan was amazing! I come here, and wonder why I ever went anywhere else for omakase. The first time I ate here was almost 5 years ago, but the taste is just as amazing as I remember. Highly recommend making a reservation beforehand if you want omakase, since I think they need time to prepare for it. We didn't - but we were able to get a tasting menu - which was similar to an omakase, just less extensive. Love love love their whiskey cocktail that came with a shishito pepper. Strong taste of whiskey, a bit sweet, and with a kick from the pepper. The tasting menu is pictured below - with a few exceptions like uni, tamago, and the natto roll. It is everything that I want from a traditional omakase - nigiris in their purest form. No extra seasoning, toppings, or innovative frills. My friend and I each got one set of tuna nigiris, one set of salmon nigiris, and a set of white fish nigiris. The fish was so incredibly fresh and well prepared, and it was a perfect journey through the various groups of fish - lean to heavy; light to dark. On top of that, we also got a generous portion of yellow tail and salmon sashimis - each lightly seasoned to bring out the flavors of the fish. The only item I wasn't a big fan of was the tamago. It was quite crispy on the edge and really tasted like a "fried egg", which is fine but because tamagos tend to be sweet, the oily taste didn't really go well with the sweetness. A surprising delight of the night was the assorted pickled vegetables on their a la carte menu. I ordered this on a whim, but it became the perfect accompaniment to the nigiris. Salty, sweet, and a great palate cleanser. Also not pictured is mochi ice cream, which they brought out for my birthday as a surprise. I didn't have high expectations for these, but they were excellent. Definitely NOT the typical mochi ice cream found at Japanese fusion restaurants. Our host Nora was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful and sweet. There wasn't a thing we didn't love. The Ancho drinks were incredible. I could try to go on about the food but the thing is, it was all so good I don't know what to say. The Nigiri platters we had were inspirational and the salmon truffle bites, the shishito peppers stuffed with meat, wagyu meat cooked at the table - Rich Lobster rolls and many dishes un-pictured here. It was not cheap but worth it, being that this was the best I've ever had on every level. Our before tip bill was about $750 with a total of 7 cocktails for 3 ppl. Incredible dining experience and great vibes. Our waiter was very kind and made some great recommendations. To start, I got the avocado balls and a shiso mojito. Both insanely delicious. I then proceeded to order tons of nigiri. My favorite was the Chutoro nigiri and the hamachi nigiri. I definitely recommend the chefs choice tuna sampler (came with Chutoro) and the signature Madai. The kanpachi and king salmon were also delicious. I recommend the king salmon over the signature salmon if you're choosing one or the other. I don't regret a single thing I ordered. We had such a wonderful time here! Inside it is super beautiful with the hanging lights and Japanese landscape in the background. You can see the sushi chefs working from where you're sitting as well since it is an open concept restaurant. Best thing 10/10 was the lobster tempura and the salmon nigiri. The salmon was melt in your mouth good and the lobster tempura was very well done-- we even ordered a 2nd one. It is a bit pricey but that's the price you pay for quality sushi! Service was amazing, the manager checked in on us as well! Parking is a bit tight. Half of the parking lot is valet and the other half is self park. Came here for dinner because why not, I've done uchi and while it's one of my all time favorite restaurants, you want to just have more a sushi purist kind of dinner sometimes! MF sushi is just that. Simple and you can really enjoy the quality of fish. I also love the option of traditional maki, it's what I love getting when I'm buying sushi from a Japanese grocery store. Often time it's the simplest of pleasures are life's treasures. I was quite full at the end!! The sashimi (chef's special) is such a great array of amazing buttery fish!!! I skipped the special rolls so I can focus on the fish today. Interestingly they did not bring rice with the sashimi, I'm sure I could've asked for it but was trying to save some room for the maki, though good to be aware of that when ordering. The gobo is one of these things I've never tried until I went to Japan. I've had it as a salad, in sushi, and fried as a topping. It has a crunch and a unique earthy flavor that I have never experienced in any other vegetables. I really recommend trying gobo at some point at a traditional Japanese restaurant. The natto is delicious but an acquired taste :) my friend tried one and wasn't a fan. Salmon maki is simple, delicious, and will never let you down. 5/5. The fish were top quality and the quantity was quite surprising for how well the quality was. Personally, I favor salmon and it definitely melted on my mouth. Tuna is a-okay for me, usually because a lot of the tuna I have aten always ended with a slight-fishy aftertaste. Although, here I think the tuna was quite the favorite! I did not taste any fishiness or bitterness in any of the plates I ordered!! Our waiter has such amazing energy!! Also, the restaurant was PACKED yet it was not at all noisy, surprisingly. Finally went back for omakase and what an experience that was. First of all, don't worry about leaving hungry - there's at least 20 dishes. Second of all, it ain't cheap, but the service, food, and presentation are outstanding. You get seated at the bar with 10-11 people and you get to watch the master chef prepare everything in front of you. It was like watching art. He personally made every nigiri and had a hand in the other dishes. The way the entire team worked together was seamless. There were 2-3 waiters that exclusively whisked our plates away and ensured our drinks were topped off. I'm limited on the number of pictures I can show, but there's nothing we didn't enjoy. Not going to lie - I winced when I saw the bill, but it was worth it for a special night out. If I had to compare this to Kata, I'd say they are par. It's more like a big table where you're seated on one end and the sushi chefs are on the other end doing their thing. I like this concept over the traditional sushi bar. Look at the Yelp pics that show the interior. It's pretty cool. I was actually looking for omakase. The thing to know is that you have to make a reservation and specifically schedule omakase. It's not just readily available to you on every night. Overall a high quality place. But call me a whore... I have to admit, Uchi is my favorite. I had seaweed salad which was not too salty and very fresh and sashimi were fresh but not much of variety came out. I tried some of my coworkers dishes and really liked the roasted mushrooms. A couple questionable recommendations from our server who pushed for cheesy dishes, which I personally am not a fan of at a sushi restaurant... but that's fine cause the other things were not too bad. Though for the price point I have a hard time justifying coming back instead of going to some more smaller sushi restaurants that have the same quality of fish but maybe not the same presentation. This place is good for really good, authentic no frills sushi. The fish quality is some of the best in town and they know what they're doing. Really love the how the restaurant feels clean, open, and not stuffy at all. Went with a group of 6 and we had great service and a great experience. Our server was great and recommended dishes for us. Our server recommended the Ancho cocktail and it was one of my favorite cocktails I've had and I'm not even a fan of whiskey. It was so well balanced and delicious. I don't think the battered lobster appetizer was worth it. But the crudo was delicious.
