This place needs to be ashamed of themselves! I came for a birthday party. There was a lot of us. About thirty people. They tried to squeeze us in area they know we couldn't fit in all so they wouldn't have to give us more tables. When the waiter came and took our orders, as soon as the phone rang , she answered it. That's right she was talking on her cell in the middle of taking our orders. When they brang the soup and salad around around, they didn't even give me one. I guess I wasn't important. The menus where sooooo old and and raggedy. It was embarrassing. The whole restaurant was just old and ran down. I was going to order sushi, but I was afraid for my life. I just couldn't trust anything about that place. So I said I will stick with something simple. I got miso soup. And even that was nasty. How do you mess up miso soup? The guy who cooked our phone was great. But the food was very plain. Didn't really have as much flavor. Let's just say I didn't take my food to go. They didn't even fill my glass with water not one time. We had brought a cake. Instead of handing us saucers and forks, we got to go plates with no forks hahaha. BEST lunch deal in Baltimore-- hands down!! Only $10 for their all-you-can-eat lunch buffet from 11:30 to 2:30. Now I know the word "buffet" is often associated with dry and stale grub that's been sitting around for hours... but not at Ginza! Their spread includes edamame, salad, chicken skewers, these delicious sesame balls, and an impressive assortment of sushi. But this isn't some kind of supermarket quality sushi; this is some japanese sushi chef-made sushi. YUMMY! The best part is that you can walk right up to the sushi chef and request any kind of roll you want-- shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, eel topped with avocado... you name it! Forget the hibachi!! For $9.95 from 11am to 2:30pm, their sushi buffet is unrivaled! We had driven by countless times before building up the bravery to check out 'buffet sushi'. That was 2 years ago. Now, we visit at least twice a month. The sushi is fresh and delicious. Wonderful variety too; from traditional rolls to exotic mixes with mango and banana. Service has always been great for us too. Ginza has a fun hibachi presentation. Spinning eggs, flaming onion volcanoes, juggling knives and entertaining chefs. I'll admit our chef must have been a newbie because a lot of our order was incorrect. But every bite was so flavorful. I enjoyed a sweet Red Dragon cocktail (ok I enjoyed TWO of them), plus complimentary plum wine and the fried ice cream desert since it was my birthday dinner. The owner gave me a coupon for $25 off my next visit to make up for the botched orders. I really appreciate these types of gestures. Plus frankly the last time I went there our order was perfect and the chef was HILARIOUS. This is a nice place and I would go back just for the hospitality. A sushi buffet with no nigiri? This place was clean and the service was okay. I do not think it was worth the money though because they used a lot of cream cheese and processed fish fillers. It was all rolls. I was not overly impressed with the lunch buffet. I should have read Anne H's review instead of the other that claimed this is a great place. To those who think this is value and good.... You need to get out more often. Medicore quality. I didn't taste much other than salt and cream cheese in most of these rolls. Ginza is my second time at a Hibachi grill, first time I was at a all inclusive resort in Jamaica. Sooo I guess that technically doesn't count. Anyway. I came here with my family on a slow Tuesday afternoon, which was great. We were seated right away and our server was attentive. Our table side Chief was loads of fun, he played with my son. (Who by the way wasn't having any of it.) When my son saw those flames come up from the table length skillet (sorry I don't know the official name) dude almost leaped from the chair to sprint out the door. He eventual relaxed and actually enjoyed watching the chief prepare our meal. I had the M-16 which is a California roll with bbq shrimp on top. This was very good, my main course was a simple shrimp, vegetable and rice dish which was tasty as well. The overall apreance of the place is very calm and cozy. Dim lighting makes for a romantic evening even if 10 people are possibly sitting at your table. Overall I like this place, I believe they have a karaoke bar, if your enjoy that then this is a pretty good place to check out. Psst By the way the fried ice cream was so so good! read more

I am baffled by the other comment that the sushi is good. The service was good, but the sushi was horrible. We did the lunch buffet, and I'm thinking $9.95 is overpriced. The fish was not fresh, the rice was gummy, and the shrimp was hard. Yes, hard! I would have sworn it was overcooked chicken if I hadn't seen the tails with my own two eyes. The rolls were at room temperature. Including the fish in and on them. The tempura green beans were chewy. But the tempura sweet potatoes were good! Crispy. That was the only good thing at the sushi bar. Maybe the hibachi is good... Maybe sushi ordered from the menu (as opposed to at the buffet) is good... I'll never know, because with all the good sushi places in the area, there is no reason for me to give this place a second chance. read more

I am new to the Baltimore area. This was the very first sushi place i have tried since moving here less than a month ago. My wife and i went there to try out the lunch buffet on a whim. Initially, i was a bit put off by how empty the place seemed to be, but then noticed that it was fairly large and had customers in more than one are. The sushi, in my opinion was very good. Certainly not the best i had ever had, but no where near the worst i have ever had. The buffet had an excellent selection of rolls and you could request different ones if you were in the mood for something else. The biggest thing for me was that while sitting there for a good hour i could help but notice that the fish that was out was replenished and REPLACED very often. That made me feel very good about eating raw and/or cooked fish sitting out on a buffet line. All in all, my experience was very good, and i will be back again and often. We decided to try a new restaurant tonight. There aren't many options around the area so we checked Yelp and this came up as an option. We were definitely disappointed. When we walked in, we weren't asked if we wanted to the hibachi grill or not, they just sat us down at a hibachi table. The food was just ok. Fried rice was burnt and some of my shrimp had tails left on them. The chef was nice. The hostess was oblivious to everything around and walked around twirling her hair and talking on her cell phone while the one waitress ran around cleaning up tables. We were never offered water or a second drink after they were finished before our food was. I wouldn't recommend this place for the price at all. Hibachi is usually expensive and you expect to receive good service and food which was not at all what we received. read more

I had the mango lovers roll,the California roll and the Christmas roll. The mango lover roll sauce got all over the rest of my rolls so they didn't taste like they were supposed to taste. Even the ginnger to cleanse my palate had mango sauce on it. Needless to say i probably won't order the mango lover roll again. The Christmas roll the tuna didn't look fresh and it said it was supposed to be an inside out roll and it wasn't. So i will not be coming back anytime soon. Maybe give it another try in a few months. A BRIEF PREFACE: this review is only for the sushi lunch. If you want to come to Ginza for hibachi and watch a man flip pieces of shrimp into his tall hat, that may be a good idea. I can't tell you how to live your life. Sushi, was a food of humble beginnings. In Japan it started out as cheap street food, evolved into a much higher and respected art, and then emigrated to New York city with high standards and a high price tag. As the American populace finally became OK with the funky idea of raw fish, its popularity soared. And prices have never been lower. Which brings us to the $10.95 sushi lunch buffet you'll find at Ginza on Reisterstown Road. From 11:30 - 2:30 you too can eat all you can from a distinct selection of rolls pulled from three main ingredients: imitation crab, avocado, and cream cheese. Occasionally a shrimp tempura or salmon roll may enter the fray, but don't expect them to be there long. If you manage to beat the crowd and get one, it doesn't matter. The rolls themselves are so hastily made that they fall apart as soon as they're picked up. The service is equally unappealing, through no fault of the waitresses but perhaps of the cheapness of the restaurant. Ginza is thoroughly understaffed. Even during the buffet lunch rush, there's only one or two waitresses. Spread out between the whole restaurant, mind you. The tables weren't even set. It took 10 minutes to just get some water. Are you not into raw fish? No problem! There are plenty of cold chicken skewers up for grabs. They're not warm or anything because why would a buffet want to invest in a heat lamp? If you're lucky you might be able to snag one of their patented chicken or onion tempura rolls. If that sounds like a good idea then honestly you and Ginza deserve each other. The idea of a fried onion roll is an affront to all that is good in the world. Imagine, taking a bite out of something expecting fried shrimp, -but getting a mouthful of onion. This accurately describes my feelings about Ginza. Whenever I go here, there's a part of me that hopes, -that holds out, for a decent meal. I know now that only onions will answer my call. I am never going to Ginza again. You're better off with supermarket sushi than Ginza's assembly line of garbage and avocado rolls. Look, you're not going to ever find a good AND cheap sushi buffet. Quality raw fish is expensive. Do yourself a favor and just spend the extra ten dollars. read more

My family and I went here last week. This was not my first time at Ginza and last time I went I had a good experience. I ordered steak and shrimp hibachi and that was good. The sushi was good as well. The service however was horrible. We arrived at 7pm, they didn't start making our food until 8:30pm!!!!!! They look 30 minutes to just give us our drinks. Then they kept forgetting to bring what we ordered, probably because the waitress didn't write it down. Then they automatically added. 20% tip on to our check, which I didn't agree with because the service was not good. The table was not clean and was very sticky. The only positive was the food. But I won't be going back because I can go somewhere else for the same price and receive good food and better service. read more

I went here for a friends birthday with about 15+ people. The staff was very friendly and patient. The chefs were entertaining and made the experience worth while! The rice was AMAZING and steak and chicken was GREAT. The place could use a bit of a renovation.. just a little out of date. Somewhat small of a venue. But they have a karaoke system you can sing YouTube karoke songs. The place can get a bit on organized at times but nothing too overbearing. You need about $25 to get 1 meal. I had to make a grand Yelp return for the chugga-chugga-choo-choo train wreck of a meal we experienced here. This isn't about the food, it was OK. It's for the absolutely horrible service that made me come back to warn others. I went with a larger group on Father's Day. I knew we were in for a bit of whimsy when we arrived at 3 pm to a virtually empty restaurant, and not only was there no host to be seen, but it took about 20 minutes for anyone to aknowledge our presence. And then another few minutes til they decided we were worthy of being seated. Didn't ask if we wanted hibachi or not, just seated us there. We were handed dinner menus and then ignored for another 10 minutes before placing orders. Certain members of our party were confused when the waitress came back with drinks for those who had the foresight to order them without being prompted by her. We were also confused when one person ordered iced tea, and she brought out a ginger ale instead. She seemed resentful that he hadn't ordered the correct drink (ginger ale) to begin with. Refills were a foreign concept, as were the pleas from the rest of our group for any hydration other than water. Some people made the mistake of asking for the miso instead of the chicken broth. The soup came out in random intervals as a result. People were on completely different courses during the meal. I asked for a single order of yakitori. The waitress brought out 2 and again seemed resentful towards us for her having messed up. When she was reminded that a sushi roll still hadn't been received, though all of the other apps were finished, she got huffy and said "IT'S COMING." (When that roll finally arrived halfway through the meal, it was poorly made and fell apart when picked up). As for the hibachi- I'm giving the chef the benefit of the doubt and assuming he was new and nervous. He said ~10 words to us total (mostly to confirm orders-I'll come back to that) and despite trying desperately, was unable to perform most of the basic hibachi "tricks". Ok, no biggie, it was just awkward. The confusion and fun began when my husband, the vegetarian, asked for his shrimp appetizer to be given to my sister, who had only ordered sushi, not hibachi. So Chef tosses her the 2 shrimp. He then seems to forget who said what, and proceeds to toss 1 shrimp on our friend's plate, and 1 on my husband's plate. He does it hesitantly, as if he knows he's making a mistake somewhere, but can't quite put his finger on it. When it comes time for the veggies (which husband ordered a full meal of), the Chef decides that husband must have wanted my sister to have ALL of his food, and starts giving her his portion of veggies. We correct him, but by the time husband is served any, he gets the smallest portion of veggies out of our entire table. Yes. The VEGGIE meal got LESS VEGGIES than the MEAT meals. At this point, we realize that the Chef has 2 servings of chicken cooking instead of the 1 which was ordered. I have a sneaking suspicion of what husband is in store for, and urge him to hurry up and finish his teeny weeny meal to remove the temptation of giving the vegetarian more meat. Sure enough, the chicken gets done, and the Chef stands there with a spatula full of chicken, looking almost hurt that husband has piled dishes on top of his plate to prevent being served anything else. Just to remind you, the chef verbally confirmed all of our orders ahead of time, and yet... shenanigans. Tip was included in the bill, though nothing on the menu or any signs in the establishment indicated that larger parties would be automatically charged. When I asked about splitting the check, the waitress cut me off saying "Can't." I didn't want to argue, or even TRY using the coupon we had, just leave. I paid in full, thankful they'd only tipped themselves 17% for truly terrible service. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! Throughout the meal, we were being very intently observed. I don't mean by the waitstaff, so they could take orders or provide refills (HAH!). I mean, there was some dude who kept standing at the decorative window between the dining room and the hallway, literally right behind my seat, STARING AT OUR TABLE during the meal. Occassionally he'd walk away, but always came back. Sometimes he was joined by a lady or two. I turned around once and saw him and nearly screamed at someone standing *right there* without my knowledge, just... staring. What the ever loving fluff. Why was he there? Was he observing the chef? Was he mad at us laughing over the entirely poor service during the meal? Did he have a thing for watching people two feet away eating? WHY? TLDR; If you love openly hostile waitresses who clearly hate their job, being ignored, not getting anything you ordered correct, being charged gratuity without being warned beforehand (illegal), and being stared at creepily while eating, then congrats, you've found your dream restaurant! For all normal people, this place friggin stinks. read more

So rarely do I really have a horrible dining experience but this had to be the worst in the area of service. So I haven't been to this restaurant in about 4 years. Decided to go back this Saturday. Wow, big mistake because I only had great memories from the past. So we get there at 7:30 pm. and are told to stand by, it's only 4 of us. At about 7:48, I say to one of the waiters, did you forget about us and it turned out they did. So we get seated and it takes 45 minutes to get drinks and another 45 minutes to put in our dinner order, turns out they were waiting for more people before they took our order. When they finally prepare the meal, they inform us that they don't have enough shrimp for the appetizers even though they come with the meal. Very disappointing to say the least. So you ask how they get 3 stars? Once the food is served, the food is awesome. The filet mignon is so seasoned and tender. The scallops are cooked to perfection. My wife had the filet with shrimp so that was weird they didn't have the appetizer. Both might daughters had the chicken and loved it. The issue was poor customer service and it seemed poor planning because we were not the only party with issues, they only had 2 chefs on a Saturday night. There were at least the large parties sitting longer than us. I need to go back to see if it's the new norm or the exception. read more

The hibachi is fun, and there's rarely a wait. Not exceptional, but fun. I do wonder sometimes how they stay in business with so few customers. Similarly, the sushi buffet is solid but not exceptional. There are a lot of options, but way too many of them have cream cheese. Also, they won't make ANYTHING you ask for as others have said - I asked for an eel roll and they denied it. I do like the sesame balls filled with red bean paste.
